John Kenneth Kruse, 99, of Cape Girardeau, Missouri passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at Chateau Girardeau Health Center.

He was born January 8, 1920 in Nash, Oklahoma to Frank and Helen (Hutcheson) Kruse.

John was a veteran of World War II serving in the Southwest Pacific area.

He married Ora Mae Ditamore December 31, 1942 in Monterey, California. She passed away in Hutchinson, Kansas on January 15, 1968.

John then married Margaret Gillilan June 28, 1969 in Hutchinson, Kansas where they made their home until moving to Hays, Kansas in 1989. In August 2011 they moved to Jackson, Missouri to be near family.

He is survived by one sister, Kathleen Wayman of Nash, Oklahoma; daughter, Kim (Randy) Webster of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; two granddaughters, Mollie (Bryan) Austin of Jackson, Missouri and Megan (Seth) Fortenberry of Waco, Texas; five great-grandchildren; two nephews of Nash, Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Ora Mae and second wife, Margaret, December 12, 2016.

John’s great joy was fishing and cheering for his granddaughters as they participated in sports. He was an active church member wherever they made their home.

There will be no services at this time.

Rose Mary (Rosie) Unruh, 76, passed away April 27, 2019 at Medicalodges Great Bend, Great Bend, KS.

She was born August 26, 1942 in Larned, KS, the daughter of Lawrence Searcy and Mary Margaret Zecha Salmans. A lifetime area resident, she was a homemaker.

She was a member of First Christian Church, Christian Women’s Fellowship and Tops, all of Pawnee Rock, KS.

On April 28, 1962, she married James R. Unruh in the First Christian Church, Larned, KS. He died June 16, 2018.

Survivors include: five children, Thomas, Great Bend, KS, Teresa (Blair) McPherson, Hays, KS, Larry, Great Bend, KS, Gary (Adria), Great Bend, KS, and Katie (John) Kessler, Peyton, CO; three brothers, Leonard Salmans, Olathe, KS, James Salmans, Elkhorn, NE, Raymond Salmans, Claremore, OK; two sisters, Elizabeth Winkler, Tempe, AZ,, Beverly Rosso, Palm Springs, CA; nine grandchildren, Hope, Calvin, Emily, Tanisha, Regan, Kaylee, Sydney, Conner and Chase and two great grandchildren, Lawson and Hannah.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Joseph Salmans and a daughter-in-law, Heather Unruh.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned, with Pastor Wade Russell presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary with family present from 6-8 p.m. Burial will be in the Pawnee Rock Cemetery, Pawnee Rock, KS.

Dorothy Viola Sekavec, age 93, passed away on April 26, 2019 at Cedar Village in Ness City, Kansas. She was born on May 5, 1925 in Bazine, Kansas the daughter of Alex and Elizabeth Stieben Ehrlich.

On July 10, 1943 she married Harvey Sekavec in Bazine. To this union, four sons were born. Dorothy was a faithful and lifelong member of St. Paul’s Congregational Church of Bazine, where she sang in the choir and worked with the Ladies Aid. Dorothy was a homemaker and always ready to lend a helping hand and she enjoyed doing things for her family and others.

Her parents preceded her in death as did her husband, Harvey on June 6, 2002. She is survived by her sons, Dale and his wife, Brenda, of Garden City, Ron and his wife, Linda, of Ness City, Marvin and his wife, Twylia, of Brownell, and Gerald and his wife, Judy, of Hays; six grandsons, Matthew, Daniel, Caleb, Michael, Jeremy, and Christopher and 13 great grandchildren, Kaden, Macon, Onna, Valerie, Brendon, Christian, Taylor, Riley, Ellie, Brynlie, Jace, Noah, and Aubrey.

Funeral service will be on Friday, May 3, 2019, 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Congregational Church, Bazine. Burial in the Bazine Cemetery. Viewing will be held at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City on Thursday, May 2, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Paul’s Congregational Church, Bazine.

Myrna Faye Campbell, 87, passed away April 24, 2019 at her home in Great Bend. She was born November 11, 1931, in Rural Smith Center to Melvin & Velma (Staley) Yenne. She married Donald Gene Sheets on February 7, 1950 and they later divorced. She then married Eldon Spike Campbell on October 6, 1978. He died July 2, 1987.

Coming from Smith Center in 1962, Myrna was employed as a bookkeeper for Doonan Truck for 6 ½ years, the Great Bend Tribune for 23 ½ years and then retired in March 1994. She worked part time then for Lou’s Printing, Dairy Queen, Dollar Tree, and Satellite Pros. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Great Bend. She graduated from Smith Center High School and was a volunteer for Compeer & Hospice. She enjoyed going to Branson, MO and playing Black Jack, golf and going to baseball and basketball games and spending time with her family.

Survivors include, one daughter, Donna Marbut; one son, John Sheets and wife Vicki of Great Bend; two step daughters, Cathy Winters of Phillipsburg and Sheila Stocker and husband Randy of Shelton, NE; one brother, Robert Yenne of Arvada, CO; three step sisters, Carolene Stutterheim, Lorraine Wells and husband Roger of Phillipsburg, Shirley Stutterheim of Almena; step brother-in-law, Dick Van Der Wege of Lindsborg; a host of nieces and nephews; 5 grandchildren, Jason Marbut and wife Mandi, Jennifer Keener and husband Jarrod, Trevor Marbut and wife Samantha, Rachelle Sheets and Joshua Sheets; step grandchildren, Talatha Reese and husband Jay and Jason Winters, all of Phillipsburg; 7 great grandchildren, Tyler Marbut and wife Taylor, Kelsie Brown and husband Trent, Kameron Keener, Kaleigh, Addilie and Waylon Sheets, and Blake Sheets, all of Great Bend; 4 step great grandchildren, Hannah, Abbigal, and Jacob Winters, Kaleigh and Makenzie Marbut; three great great grandchildren, Brantlie Mae Marbut, Kayson Brown and Carter Marbut. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Eldon; her step father William DeBoer, two son-in-laws, Dale Marbut and Leon Winters; two step sisters, Helen DeBoer, Elnor Van Der Wege; and brother-in-law Roger Stutterheim.

Visitation will be held from Noon to 9:00 p.m., Monday, April 29, 2019, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 30, 2019, at Bryant Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Johnson presiding. Interment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery.

Nelda Gayle (Heinz) Prewo, age 66 of Hays, Kansas died April 15, 2019, at her home in Hays, Kansas. She was born September 29, 1952, at Scott City, Kansas to Lyle and Mildred (Lewis) Heinz. She married Michael E. Prewo on November 29, 1980 at Hays, Kansas. He preceded her in death on December 13, 2002.

She worked at Stanion Wholesale Electric in Hays for 28 years and retired in 2000.Nelda grew up in Dighton, Kansas and attended Dighton Elementary School. She was a 1970 graduate of Dighton High School and attended two years at Salt City Business School in Hutchinson, Kansas receiving her degree in accounting and computer programing. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays, Kansas. She enjoyed sewing, doing crafts, gardening, sports activities including KU, Kansas State, Fort Hays State University and tailgating.

Survivors include one brother, Bryce Heinz and wife, Marilyn, Park City, KS; one sister-in-law, Kathy (Neill) Heinz, Bella Vista, AR; seven nephews and nieces; 14 great nephews and great nieces; and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, two brothers, Roger Heinz and Gary Heinz.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 4, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 215 West 13th Street, Hays, Kansas. Burial was held at Grainfield Cemetery, Grainfield, Kansas.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. Saturday, at St, Joseph Catholic Church, Hays, Kansas.

Memorial to the Hays Big Brothers and Big Sisters Youth Organization.
