Charles James Kinderknecht

Charles James Kinderknecht passed away Sunday evening, April 21, 2019, at his home in Almena, Kansas, at the age of 80. Charlie was born on April 13, 1939, the 13th child of Alex and Anna (Bollig) Kinderknecht in Sheridan County, near Park, Kansas. After graduating from Park Rural High School in 1957, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served until his honorable discharge in 1963.

He married Violet Wagoner in November 1963 and to this union four children were born. They later divorced. Charlie did custom hay work around the Park, Kansas area until the family moved to a farm near Almena, Kansas in December 1971. Over the following years he was a farmer/rancher and worked at local sale barns, drove cattle trucks, fuel truck for Home Oil and worked for Norton County Road and Bridge Department.

Charlie was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Norton, Kansas. His greatest joy and blessings were his children and grandchildren, and they made him very proud. He loved attending his grandchildren’s ball games, school events, and rodeo events. He enjoyed playing cards with local card groups and his family. His love of horses carried down through generations.

Survivors include: the love of his life, Violet; four children, Toby, and wife, Lisa Kinderknecht, Stapleton, Nebraska; Shelly, and husband, Mike Shearer, Almena, Kansas; Terry, and wife, Stephanie Kinderknecht, Almena, Kansas; Lance, and wife, Niki Kinderknecht, Wakeeney, Kansas; 11 grandchildren, Cole, and wife, Lacy Kinderknecht; Kelsey Smith; Ryan, and wife, Amy Shearer; Scott Shearer; Amber, Chance, and Coy Kinderknecht; Kylie, Caden, Natalie, and Nolan Kinderknecht; four great-grandchildren, Audrie, Ryder and Cort Smith; Conner Kinderknecht; one brother, Robert, and wife, Virginia Kinderknecht, two sisters, Esther, and husband, Alvin Mader; Thelma, and husband, Gilbert Wildeman; 84 nieces and nephews; many other relatives and friends.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Tyson Charles Kinderknecht, five brothers, Julius, Eugene, Marvin, Cletus, and Virgil, one sister, Dorothy Waldman and three infant sisters.

Joyce Lucille (Davis) Noah Vaught

Joyce Lucille (Davis) Noah Vaught, 87, passed away April 22, 2019 at Ellinwood District Hospital, Ellinwood. She was born January 16, 1932 at Nishnabotna, MO to John Carl “JC” and Fannie Mae (Bettinger) Davis. She married Robert D. Noah June 15, 1973 in Nebraska. He died in 2015.

Coming from Tyrone, OK in 1993, Joyce was a CNA working in many area nursing homes and as a home health aide. She enjoyed cleaning house and caring for others.

Survivors include, eight children, John Lewis Stevens and wife Michelle of Grant, IA, Carroll Eugene Olson of Baxter, IA, Brenda Joyce Hall and husband Robert of Ellinwood, Larry Dee Olson of Great Bend, Emelia Kathleen Johnson and husband Lloyd of Great Bend, Sandra Kay Burr of TX, Mark Edward Burr of AZ, and Rodney Dean Noah and wife Renee of Great Bend; 16 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Roger Eugene Olson; one brother, Leroy Davis; one sister, Helen Davis; and 3 grandchildren, Sonya Walker, Robert H. Hall, and C.J.

Visitation will be held from Noon to 9:00 p.m., Thursday, April 25, 2019 at Bryant Funeral Home, with family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, April 26, 2019 at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Great Bend, with Rev. Dick Ogle presiding. Memorials are suggested to the Golden Belt Home Health and Hospice, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Kent Robert Yetschke

Kent Robert Yetschke, 68, passed away February 22, 2019 at his home in Great Bend. He was born January 10, 1951 to Robert Eldon and Betty Ann (Bowsher) Yetschke.

A lifetime resident of the Great Bend area, Kent was a butcher for Dillons, Food-4-Less, Great Bend Packing, and the Butcher Block in Larned. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and even acted as a guide to hunters on excursions. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves.

Survivors include, one daughter, Kendra Brown and her husband Eric of Burdett; one niece, Juli Sparkman and her husband George Webster of Bel Aire; and three grandchildren, Dawson Williams, Logan Williams and Mackenlie Brown. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Tara Rene Yetschke; and sister, Barbara Yetschke.

Cremation has taken place and services are pending at a later date.

Richard C. Lohr

Richard C. Lohr, age 79 years, of Burdett, Kansas and formerly of Pawnee Rock, Kansas, passed away at his home in Burdett on Friday evening, April 19, 2019.

Richard was born on June 23, 1939 at Rock Falls, Illinois to Cleo and Ida (McKeel) Lohr. He was united in marriage to Janice Ellis on July 3, 1962 at Great Bend, Kansas, and they had a son, Rick Lohr. Richard was later united in marriage to Laura McCormick-Lohr on June 6, 2002. A U.S. Navy Veteran, he served aboard the repair ship USS Markab.

After coming to this area, Richard attended Barton County Community College, taking courses for electrician and machine technology. He worked in the oilfield as a pumper. Richard loved hunting and fishing, scuba diving, and co-owned and operated Lohr’s House of Treasures antique and collectibles shop in Pawnee Rock for 5 years. He had been a resident of Burdett for the past two years.

Survivors include one son, Rick (and his wife, Sandi) Lohr of Arkansas City, Kansas; one daughter, Chelsea (and her husband, Justin) Hoffman of Burdett, Kansas; six grandchildren: Derek (and his wife, Alex) Lohr, Ryleigh Hayden, Mason Mostrom, Kaydance Mostrom, Addison Hoffman, and Skylar Stein; one sister, Mary Green of Florida; nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his second wife Laura McCormick-Lohr on July 30, 2017; two brothers (Donald “Doc” Lohr and Bill Lohr) and two sisters (Nora Lohr and Dorothy Vanaman).

According to Richard’s wishes, cremation has been chosen. A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at Charter Funerals in Great Bend, Kansas with Pastor Larry J. Schumacher officiating. Private family inurnment will follow at a later date in Colorado. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation. Dwight ‘Lee’ Blair

Dwight “Lee” Blair, 76, died April 20, 2019, at his home in Claflin after struggling with several health issues. He was born May 11, 1942, in Halfway, Missouri, the son of Samuel Dwight and Naomia May (Goldsberry) Blair. Lee served as a drill sergeant in the United States Army Reserve from 1966 to 1972.

Lee was a resident of Claflin for the last 16 years, living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Salina before that. While living in Salina, Lee worked as a painter for Salina Body and Fender, he then became an over the road truck driver, working for Graves and ANR Trucking. Lee was an avid sportsman, he loved hunting, fishing, guns, and old cars.

On June 27, 1981, he married Vera G. Klima in Salina.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Vera Blair of the home, and dog, Candice; son, Derek Blair of Citrus Heights, California; granddaughter, Savanna Blair of Mount Pleasant, Iowa; siblings, Dixie P. King of Springfield, Missouri, Eddie J. Blair of Overland Park, Kansas, Dorothy M. Antwiler of Independence, Missouri, Jack A. Blair of Emery, South Dakota; 29 nieces and nephews, and 40 great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Darren Blair, infant daughter, Tresca Blair; and sisters, Katie Jo Wall and Darlene Covell.

Services were held Monday, April 22, 2019 at the funeral home.

Warren G. Heaton

Warren G. Heaton, beloved son of Thomas and Gertrude (Graves) Heaton, was born in Norton on August 9, 1923, and passed away at the Norton County Hospital in Norton, Kansas on April 19, 2019, at the age of 95.

Warren grew up in Norton and graduated from Norton Community High School. He went on to attend college at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. During college, Warren enlisted in the United States Army. Captain Heaton proudly served as a pilot of the Army Air Corps. in the Pacific during WWII. On April 27, 1944, Warren married his sweetheart, Wanda Van Greuningen and to this union two daughters were born, Diann and Janiece.

Warren was a member of the Norton Christian Church and served as a deacon and also as an elder. He was also a member of the Royal Arch Masons Blue Lodge of Almena Knights Templer, and ISIS Shriners. He enjoyed playing bridge, puzzles, reading, and square dancing.

Survivors include: one daughter, Janiece Walter, Norton; four grandchildren, Jennifer, and husband, Sam Vanourney, St. Joseph, Missouri; Matt Fisher, Kansas City, Missouri; Brian, and, wife, Mandy Walter, Fredericksburg, Virginia; Kyle, and wife, Leah Walter, Great Bend, Kansas; six great-grandchildren, Graeson, Cass, Hughes, Pryce, Layla Walter, and Ron Vanourney; sister-in-law, Eunice Nealtopp, Norton, Kansas; son-in-law, Rollie, and wife, Michelle Fisher; several other relatives and friends.

Warren was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Wanda, one daughter, Diann, three brothers.

Alice A. (Weeks) Pratt

Alice A. (Weeks) Pratt passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at the Sheridan County Health Complex LTC, after a lifetime of living in Sheridan County. Alice was born March 10, 1927 to Clarence and Pearl (Godfrey) Weeks, the third of seven children. She attended school in Hoxie graduating from Sheridan County High School. Alice attended Fort Hays State University to obtain a teaching certificate during war years and taught in several rural schools in the area.

Alice married James “Jimmy” E. Pratt on May 17, 1948 in Seguin, Kansas. Two children, Charles “Chuck” and Karen completed the family. After marrying, Alice joined the Catholic Church and was a member of Sodality. The family lived on the family ranch for the first years of their marriage and later moved to Hoxie.

Alice always enjoyed working and her jobs. She babysat until her own children graduated from high school. She worked for many years for the Hoxie Sale Barn cooking the meals on sale days. She was a clerk at the Ben Franklin Store and at the Hoxie Stop 2 Shop. She enjoyed seeing and visiting with the people who came into the businesses. At the Stop to Shop, Alice opened the store early in the morning. The regulars enjoyed seeing her each morning. After retirement, Alice would mention how she loved to work and had a wish to go back to work. When she was not working, she loved to cook and taught many to make pies. She was a seamstress and enjoyed sewing and making clothes for her children. She liked flowers especially red roses

Alice is survived by her son, Charles “Chuck” and his wife Diane of Hoxie, Kansas; daughter, Karen Deibert of Hoxie, Kansas; brothers, Bill Weeks of Hoxie, Kansas, and Murl Weeks and wife Anita of Oklahoma; sister-in-law, Judy Weeks; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy; parents, Clarence and Pearl Weeks; Infant Grandson, Shane Pratt; brother, Al Weeks; sister, Violet Rogers, Marge Thaden, and infant sister, Nellie Weeks.

A Mass of Christian Burial is planned for Tuesday, April 23, 2019, 10:30 A.M. at the St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Hoxie, Kansas. A visitation will be held on Monday, April 22, 2019, at Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home from 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. with a Vigil Service at 7:00 P.M. There will be a private family inurnment at a later day. The family has chosen the Sheridan County Health Complex LTC or the Sheridan County Benefit Walk as memorials. Edward Paul Younger

Edward Paul Younger, 87, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 12:16 p.m., Saturday, April 20th, 2019 while in the company of family members, at Via Christi St. Francis, Wichita, Kansas.

Ed was born in Hays, Kansas on April 24, 1931, a son of Peter and Katherine (Pfannenstiel) Younger.

He was a devoted member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in McPherson.

Through the years Ed worked for the International Harvester Company as a dealer in WaKeeney, Kansas and worked for Farm Bureau as an Agency Manager in McPherson, Kansas until he retired in 2001.

Ed enjoyed golfing, spending time with his family and grandchildren.

He is survived by the love of his life Dorothy Younger, of McPherson, Kansas; his children, Lonnie Younger and his wife Cindy, of Franklin, Tennessee; Leon Younger and his wife Katherine, of Brownsburg, Indiana; LeRoy Younger and his partner Steven Spillers, of Topeka, Kansas; Tami Kaegi and her husband Grant, of Lenexa, Kansas; his brothers Frank Younger, of Hays, Kansas; Norman Younger, of Hays, Kansas; brother Richard Younger and his wife Betty, of Hays, Kansas; sisters Mary Dreiling and her husband Bob, of Hays, Kansas and sister Cora Sawazhki, of Topeka, Kansas.

He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Jenny Pietrzak(David), Amy Flynn(Ed), Greg Younger(Lindsey), Will Younger(Noelle), John Younger, Caitlin Montgomery(Norm), Sarah Durham(Keaton), Rachel Schlichter(Kyle), Megan Leiker(Patrick), John Kaegi(Amanda) and Rachel Green(Daniel).
18 great-grandchildren, Sam, MacKenzie, Henry, Jackson, Charlie, Max, Reese, Rhett, Ocean, Lark, McCartney, Edison, Charlotte, Kennedi, Pierce, Lincoln, Lucy, Kaden.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents and his four brothers.

Visitation will be held at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, McPherson, Kansas on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Rosary will start at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 25th, 2019 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, McPherson, Kansas with a Mass of Christian to start at 10:00 a.m with Fr. Ben Shockey officiating.

A private family burial will be held at the McPherson Cemetery, McPherson, Kansas.

Frances Jean Flagor

Frances Jean Flagor, 82, died April 19, 2019, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington. She was born

January 27, 1937, in Barton County, the daughter of Robert E. and Aurelia (Schugart) Connor. Jean graduated from Hoisington High School in 1955.

She married Jackie Edward Shreve in 1955, he preceded her in death on November 16, 1960. She then married Reuben Flagor on April 28, 1962, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hoisington.

A lifetime Barton County resident, Jean a mother of six children, she began working part time at the Hoisington Dispatch after the children were in school. She later went on to work for Fuller Brush and Superior Essex, and finally for the Eldercare Program from which she retired.

Jean was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and Altar Society. Jean was an avid gardener, quilter, card player, and gambler. She and Reuben loved to travel to the many nearby casinos together.

Survived by her husband of nearly 57 years, Reuben; and children, Jack Flagor and wife Sherri of Hays, Janet Palmer of Dumfries, Virginia, Ron Flagor and wife Mary Ann of Pensacola, Florida, David Flagor of Kansas City, Missouri, Earl Flagor and wife Julia of Hoisington, and Robert Flagor of Kansas City, Missouri; brother, John Connor of Ellinwood; sisters, Loretta Ulrey of Larned, and Barbara Lehning of Logan; 15 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and one more on the way.

Preceded in death by parents, husband, Jackie Shreve; brothers, Robert and Jim Connor, and sisters, Margaret Ehrlich and Mary Lou Komarek.

Friends may call noon to 8 p.m., Monday at the funeral home with Vigil with Altar Society Rosary will be 7 p.m., Monday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 23, 2019, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hoisington, celebrated by Father Charles Mazouch. Burial will follow in St. John Church Cemetery.
