Guy Dale McClaskey

Guy Dale McClaskey, of Salina, departed this life on April 3, 2019, at the age of 90.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clement and Ruth (Cunningham) McClaskey, of Girard; his wife of 55 years, Lois Jean Covey; and brothers, George and Jack.

He leaves to mourn his passing: three children, Vicki Kolarik (David), of Bellvue, Neb., Linda McClaskey, of Salina, and Gerald McClaskey, of Lawrence; 13 grandchildren, Nathan, Jared, Ryan, Erin, Megan, Christopher, Amanda, Kathleen, Tyler, Danielle, Sean, Connor and Kerry; and 13 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is Joyce Rich, his companion of 12 years.

Dale attended Kansas State University, graduating in 1949. His career, after serving two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, was with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Soil Conservation Service. He worked at several locations: Wellington, Marysville, Topeka, Hays, Salina and Washington, D.C., where he was in charge of Great Plains Conservation Program. He also spent three years with the inspector general office of the USDA. Dale returned to Salina where he retired in 1987.

Dale loved the outdoors and felt honored to have a hand in conserving God’s creation of our natural resources. He liked to hunt and fish and his trophies show his success. His family life was also outdoors, enjoying family camping in his numerous RVs. He enjoyed cutting firewood for himself and others who needed it.

Dale held life memberships in several organizations: National Rifle Association, American Legion, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Association of Retired Soil Conservation Service Employees and National Association of Family Campers and RV’s.

Dale was a member of First United Methodist Church in Salina and Crusaders Sunday school class. He first joined the Methodists in Wellington and was a member in every community in which he lived. He enjoyed doing things for others. Near Christmas he made over 20 batches of his famous peanut brittle to give to family and friends.

A celebration of Dale’s life will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, at First United Methodist Church, 122 N. Eighth, Salina. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday, April 8, with family receiving friends from 6:30-8 p.m., at Ryan Mortuary, Salina.

Memorials are suggested to Salina Rescue Mission, in care of Ryan Mortuary.

Clyde Eugene Hullett

Clyde Eugene Hullett, 76, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2019 at his home in Great Bend.

He was born September 14, 1942 in Larned to Ralph and Grace Morningwig Hullett.

A lifetime area resident, Clyde worked for Rosewood Services, Great Bend.

He was of the Methodist faith; he enjoyed watching sports, especially baseball; loved gardening; and enjoyed his friends and family.

He is survived by; a brother, Larry (Ramona) Hullett, Hoisington; Nieces, Samantha Hullett, Barbara Froetschner, Mary Rincones, Vonda Halfhill, Shona Helms, Kelly Roberts; Nephews, Tony Hullett, Ralph Hullett, Stacy Pulliam; numerous great nieces and nephews; numerous great-great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Kenneth Hullett, Harold Hullett, Edward Hullett, Sonny Hullett.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned with Robert Sallee presiding; interment in Larned Cemetery, Larned. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2019.

Luisa V. Medrano

Longtime Lamesa, TX resident and former Goodland, KS resident Luisa V. Medrano passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Society-Sherman County in Goodland, KS.

Luisa was born on September 18, 1932 in Lyford, TX to Cayetano and Maria (Galvan) Vela. She was one of two children. She attended school through the 3rd grade, and later went on to obtain her GED and became a CNA.

She married Francisco Medrano II in Texas in 1950. Religion was very important to Luisa, and to show her love for her Lord, she had memberships at various Church’s in Texas, helping out and doing whatever was needed around the church. The second most important thing in her life was her family. She enjoyed spending time with all her brother, her children, and grandchildren. She also had a love for animals.

Preceding her in death were her parents, one daughter Janie Sauseda, two sons, and her brother Lalo Vela.

She is survived by her children Maria Medrano of Goodland, KS, Ruth (Rito) Villa of Portales, NM, Art Medrano of Austin, TX, Ramiro Medrano of Lubbock, TX, Estella Rascon of Lamesa, TX, Frank Medrano of Lamesa, TX, Cayetano Medrano of Amarillo, TX, Rosa Vasquez of Aurora, CO, Bobby Medrano, of Lamesa, TX and Anthony Medrano of Amarillo, TX. She is also survived by 37 grandchildren, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Ray C. ‘R.C.’ Ingram

Ray C. “R.C.” Ingram, 72, died April 6, 2019, at his home in Great Bend, Kansas. He was born October 1, 1946, in Great Bend, Kansas, the son of William Joseph and Mamie Mary (Dunn) Ingram.

On April 5, 1965, he married Mary E. Zamarripa in Great Bend. She survives.

A lifetime Great Bend resident, Ray was a roughneck and worked in the oil field until his retirement in 1986.

He was a member of the Cheyenne Bottoms Sportsmen Club, where he loved to fish and spend time with his dog Shadow. He also loved to play softball and coached for his kids when they were younger. He was an avid solitaire player and junker, finding treasures to bring home. He cared for many elderly ladies, he affectionately called his girlfriends, doing yardwork and handyman work for them. He also really loved spending time with all of his oil field buddies. He loved his grandchildren and had a special bond with Mason.

He is survived by his wife Mary Ingram of 54 years; and six children, Gina VanSkike, Paula Ingram both of Great Bend, John Ingram and wife Jessie of Wamego, Ramona Anderson and husband Wes of Floydada, Texas, Debra Courville & husband Robbie of Topeka, and Tosha Zamarripa-Perales of Liberal; 19 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and 7 siblings, Dora and Dannelda Ingram, Alice Harrod, Leona Bowman, Jay, Keith, and Eldon Ingram, and a granddaughter, Elisa Schmitt.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m., Thursday, April 11, 2019, at Bryant Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Dick Ogle presiding. Friends may sign the book Monday – Thursday, with family to receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home. There will be no viewing as cremation has taken place.

William C. ‘Bill’ Baker

William C. “Bill” Baker, 87, Hays, died Thursday, April 4, 2019 at Via Christi Village.

He was born November 29, 1931 in Altus, Oklahoma the son of William Clarence and Hallie Marie (McKenna) Baker. He graduated from Altus High School, earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Oklahoma State University, and pursued his master’s degree at Louisiana State University. As a chemical engineer, he was a plant manager and operations manager known for being a problem solver. Bill was a jet fighter pilot in the United States Air Force. He married Betty Ann McCutcheon. He later was united in marriage to Catherine “Cathy” Mick on February 28, 1978 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. They celebrated 41 years of marriage. He was a scuba diver, an artist painting murals and drawing cartoon sketches, a woodworker, and a member of Sigma Chi. He loved traveling with family and friends, enjoyed trips to a number of foreign countries, was very active in the outdoors, and had a passion for hiking, especially in Sedona, Arizona and at the Grand Canyon at the age of 70.

Survivors include his wife Cathy of Hays, three daughters; Amy Palomaki and husband Scott of Traverse City, MI, Cynthia Peters and husband John of Woodstock, GA, and Shelby Baker of Dayton, TX, two stepsons; Greg Mick and wife Diane of Hays and Rev. Dr. Barry Mick and wife Joanne of Kauai, HI, a stepdaughter; Renee Mick of Marfa, TX, a step daughter-in-law; Frieda Mick of Baton Rouge, LA, three granddaughters; Paige, Sydney and Madison, four step grandchildren; Matthew, Ashley, Dusty, and Brett, and a great grandson; Dawson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a stepson; Gary Mick, a brother; Boyd Baker, and two sisters; Dorothy Ford and Donna Carter.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 pm Thursday, April 11, 2019 at the St. John’s Chapel in Via Christi Village. Family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until service time. Roberta Darlene Christie

Roberta Darlene Christie, 86, of Hoxie, died Friday, April 5, 2019, at Hays Medical Center.

She was born August 11, 1932, in Salina, KS, to Albert and Esther (Bartell) Plummer. Roberta grew up south of Russell Springs, KS. She married Charlie Salmans in 1951. During their 40 years of marriage Roberta and Charlie farmed and raised cattle. They enjoyed many farm animals and she was known for her farm fresh eggs and beautiful vegetable and flower gardens. You could always find her dog Ginger close at hand. After Charlie passed away Roberta continued farming until a friend introduced her to Virgil Christie, from Hoxie. After a short courtship they were united in marriage and spent the next 16 years in Hoxie, enjoying each other’s company. Roberta took very good care of Virgil until he passed in 2018. Roberta then moved to Sheridan Estates, where she met lots of new friends and spent her days quilting.

Roberta was preceded in death by her husbands, Charlie Salmans and Virgil Christie; an infant brother; and cousins, Delbert, Robert, Donnie and Raymond Bartell.

She is survived by her local cousins, Daylene Bartell and family, Kyle Bartell and family, Delmonta (Louie) Tholen, Isabell Finch, Virgil (Merna) Bartell and Margaret Bartell; granddaughter, Christie Ziegler and Virgil’s daughters.

A Funeral Service will take place at 12:30 p.m. Monday, April 8, 2019, at the United Methodist Church, Hoxie, KS, with visitation starting at 12:00 p.m. Burial will take place in the Winona Cemetery, Winona, KS. Vernon M. Felder

Vernon M. Felder, 96, Nekoma, Kansas, died Friday, April 5, 2019, at Rush County Memorial Hospital Intermediate Swing Bed, La Crosse, Kansas.

Mr. Felder was born January 5, 1923, in Hoisington, Kansas, the son of Andy and Steffie (Proksch) Felder. He was a lifelong resident of Rush County, Kansas. He was a farmer.

He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas.

On February 14, 1952, he married Ruth Mayfield at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas.

Survivors include: his wife, Ruth Felder, Nekoma, Kansas; one son, Fred Felder (Kathy), Rush Center, Kansas; two grandsons, Michael Felder (Megan), La Crosse, Kansas, and Bruce Felder, Rush Center, Kansas; two great grandsons, Dice Felder, and Drew Felder; one brother, Louis Felder, WaKeeney, Kansas; and one sister, Pauline Oborny, Denver, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Joe Felder; and three sisters, Bertha Johnsen, Marie Vondracek, and Sister Dorothy Felder.

Visitation will be Monday, April 8, 2019, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, Kansas. A vigil service and rosary will be at 7:00 P.M.

Church visitation will be Tuesday, April 9, 2019, from 9:30 A.M. to 10:20 A.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, April 9, 2019, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas, with Father Eric Gyamfi officiating. Interment will be in the La Crosse City Cemetery, La Crosse, Kansas.

Cyrill M. ‘Bud’ Pivonka

Cyrill M. “Bud” Pivonka, 96, Timken, Kansas, died Thursday, April 4, 2019, at Rush County Memorial Hospital, La Crosse, Kansas.

Mr. Pivonka was born January 3, 1923, in rural Timken, Kansas, the son of Ralph M. and Antonia (Holopirek) Pivonka. He was a lifelong resident of Rush County, Kansas. A 1939 graduate of Bison High School, Bison, Kansas, he and his wife, Melva, together with Edward and Thelma Fiala, built and operated the La Crosse Bowl in La Crosse, Kansas. In 1952, they moved to Timken, Kansas, and operated Pivonka Implement with Bud’s brother, Jim, later moving the implement dealership to La Crosse, Kansas, until 1979.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, La Crosse, Kansas, the VFW Post 3147, La Crosse, Kansas, and American Legion Post 33, La Crosse, Kansas.

He was a United States Navy veteran, serving in World War II, and the Korean Conflict.

On December 24, 1946, he married Melva L. Gillig at the United Methodist Church, La Crosse, Kansas. She preceded him in death May 1, 2014.

Survivors include: two sons, Steve Pivonka (Sharnon), Lenexa, Kansas, and David Pivonka, Great Bend, Kansas; one daughter, Nancy Pivonka (Sue), Santa Fe, New Mexico; five grandchildren, Andy Pivonka, Melissa Pivonka, Kimberly Bartley, Jeremy Pivonka, and Aaron Pivonka; and six great grandchildren, Jake Bartley, Easton Bartley, Kohen Pivonka, Genevieve Pivonka, Brooklynn Pivonka, and Connor Pivonka.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two brothers, Ralph C. Pivonka, and James R. “Jim” Pivonka; and two sisters, Marie Mahoney, and Matilda Meneley.

The family will be receiving friends Thursday, April 11, 2019, from 12:30 P.M. to 1:30 P.M. at the United Methodist Church, La Crosse, Kansas.

Memorial service will be Thursday, April 11, 2019, at 1:30 P.M., at the United Methodist Church, La Crosse, Kansas, with Pastor Angie Vertz officiating. Inurnment will be in the La Crosse City Cemetery, La Crosse, Kansas.

Demma Jean (Ingram) Diekman-Sammons, age 91, died Thursday, April 4, 2019, at her home in Hays, Kansas.

Ardis Ilene (Kaup) Woods

Ardis Ilene (Kaup) Woods passed away April 3, 2019 at Smith County Memorial Hospital.

Ardis was born September 4,1930 at home to Roy and Mabel Kaup. She was the youngest of 4 children. She attended Crystal Plains elementary school and Smith Center High School, graduating in 1948. September 4, 1948 Ardis married Billy J Woods at the First United Methodist Church in Smith Center. They celebrated 63 years of marriage. Bill was in the Army and stationed in Colorado where they lived for a short time. When Bill’s Army enlistment ended, he and Ardis moved back to Smith County to farm. They started a family and had 5 children Dianna, Dennis, William, Debra and Roy.

After a few years, they moved to the Bellaire area. Ardis joined an extension unit in Lebanon and it was from this group that friends were formed that played cards together for many years. Ardis and Bill then moved to Smith Center. Ardis started working out of the home at this time. She held a variety of jobs and ended up retiring from working at the Courthouse during assessing season. Ardis was baptized in the First Christian Church in Smith Center in 1970. She helped with the youth group and funeral meals. She had a love of sewing and made quilts for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She embroidered many quilts, pillowcases and towels for family. She loved playing cards, attending or hosting family gatherings, watching sports on tv, watching game shows, playing search a word, talking to friends and family on the phone and receiving cards. Every Saturday night ended with Molly B polka party.

Ardis was preceded in death by husband Billy J, son Dennis, great grandson Kyle, her parents, her siblings and spouses Roberta (Ted) Wilson, Raymond (Jeri) Kaup, Bob (Virginia) Kaup, her in-laws JW and Netta Woods, Bob Woods, Harry Woods and Edgar Woods.

Survivors are children; Dianna (James) Grauerholz of Wichita , William (Le’Ann) Woods of Wichita, Debra (Bryan) Tillett of Smith Center and Roy (Michele) Woods of McPherson. Grandchildren; James Robert (Jeanne) Grauerholz of Wichita, Julie (Tony) Schaar of Wichita, and Michael Grauerholz of Wichita, Erica (Scott) Campbell of Wichita, Austin Woods of Wichita, Jessica (Brandon) Berry of Marienthal, Sara (Tyler) Darnell of Manhattan, Mallory (Tom) Colwell of Wamego, Nicole(Brett) Ferrell of Lenexa, Great grandchildren; Jason (Mindy); Chad (Kameron), Sean, and Tyler Grauerholz; Laura, Sarah, and Nathan Schaar; Chayston and Preslie Berry; Brennen, Jackson, and Kinsley Darnell; Case Colwell; Kylie, Grace, and Isla Campbell; Remi Ferrell. Jerry R. Strother

Jerry R. Strother, age 77, passed away on Sunday April 7, 2019, at the Smith Center Health & Rehab Center in Smith Center.

Roger George Schultze

Roger George Schultze, 83, of Osborne, Kansas, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2019 at the Parkview Care Center in Osborne.

Roger was born at home in the Kill Creek Community on January 20, 1936 to Reginald H. and Mildred A. (Bealby) Schultze. His family later moved to the Covert area and he attended school in Covert and Natoma, graduating from Natoma High School in 1953. It was there that he met and later married the love of his life, Levetta June Locke, on August 23, 1955, in Phillipsburg, Kansas. To this union were born three children, Kendall, Kim and Wade. Roger and Levetta enjoyed farming and ranching and found great joy in checking their cattle and bringing in the harvest together for over 55 years. Together they managed the Feed Bunk Café at the Osborne Livestock Sale Barn where Roger manned the grill. Roger was a member of the Kansas Livestock Association and was highly regarded for the quality cattle herd be built over the years. His greatest joys were his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Family gatherings were an anticipated event that brought out the twinkle in his eyes and filled him with chuckles of laughter.

Roger is survived by his son Kendall Schultze (Tammy) of Waldo, Kansas; daughter, Kim Topham (Greg) of Peabody, Kansas; son, Wade Schultze (Tina) of Osborne, Kansas; brother, Rex Schultze (Rita) of Osborne, Kansas; 8 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Levetta. The love and devotion Roger shared with Levetta, especially as her health declined, will always be cherished by his family.

Celebration of Roger’s Life will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, April 12, 2019 at the Free Methodist Church in Osborne. Graveside service will be held at 5:30 PM, Friday at Natoma City Cemetery in Natoma, Kansas. The family will be present to greet friends after the service in the church fellowship hall. A Memorial has been established with Osborne Livestock and Osborne Free Methodist Church.
