Lois Lee Guidry

Lois Lee Guidry, faithful wife, loving mother, devoted servant of God, went to be with her Lord, on January 18, 2019 in Pueblo West, Colorado at the age of 85.

The oldest of two girls, Lois was born March 9, 1933 to William and Edna Bailey in Red Lodge, Montana. Along with her husband, Howard, she ministered in churches in Louisiana, Texas and Kansas for over 50 years. Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Howard in 2006, and a son, Tony, in 2011. She is survived by her children Paul (Karen) Guidry, Tim (Colleen) Guidry, Beth Guidry, Tina Guidry (Rick) Bartlett, as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at 10:00 am at the Pueblo West Funeral Home in Pueblo West, CO. Burial will follow on Thursday, January 24, 2019 in Hill City, Kansas, where her body will be laid to rest beside her husband, Howard, and her parents.

A special thank you from the family to the staff of The Oasis Assisted Living Center in Pueblo West for their loving service in caring for Lois.

S. Andrew ‘Andy’ Heidrick

S. Andrew “Andy” Heidrick, 58, of Salina, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2019. He was born July 27, 1960, in Beloit, to Jerry Dean and Marlene (Shay) Heidrick.

Andy grew up on the family farm near Glasco, graduating from Glasco High School in 1978 and then K-State in 1982 with a business and finance degree. He worked for three years in Oklahoma before completing a Juris Doctorate in 1988 from KU School of Law. Andy practiced law for five years in Salina with Clark, Mize, and Linville before continuing with his own practice for the past 25 years. In recent years Andy suffered from Meniere’s disease. Andy was an avid sports fan, he enjoyed both participating and watching sports. He also cared deeply for his many clients, relatives, and friends.

Andy is survived by: his mother and step-father, Marlene and Verle Grittman, of Glasco; stepbrother, David Grittman and his wife Nicole, of Berryton, and their children, Makinze and Morgan and her husband Andrew Hewett, their children, Blakely and Aidan; stepsister, Ruth Ann Zimmer and her husband Kevin, of Hays, and their children,Kassie and Ashlyn; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by: his father; and brother, Alan Dean Heidrick.

Funeral services are pending at this time and a second notice will follow when scheduled.

Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, Glasco Schools, or a charity of donor’s choice, in care of Ryan Mortuary, Salina.

Alvin Henry Zimbelman

Alvin Henry Zimbelman, age 83, passed away Monday, January 21, 2019 at his home in Goodland.

Alvin was born on the family farm in Sherman County on September 23, 1935. He was the sixth child of Henry and Christina (Schlepp) Zimbelman.

He attended a one room country grade school and he graduated from Sherman Community High School in 1952. Alvin and Sylvia Brown were married on April 21, 1957 in Goodland, Kansas. They celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary in April 2018.

Alvin’s career with Sears moved the family to Olathe and Lansing, Kansas. He retired from Sears after 35 years, after his retirement he and Sylvia moved back to Goodland in 2003. They spent fourteen winters in Chandler, Arizona and some of the many places they traveled were to Hawaii, Europe, Alaska and the Panama Canal. Alvin always enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, he especially enjoyed harvest time and was even able to run a combine in October 2018. Alvin was a member of the Goodland United Methodist Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jacob, Edwin, Rudy (Nancy), Donald (Anne); and sisters, Helen Chadwick and Dorothy (Eldon) Palmer.

Alvin is survived by his wife, Sylvia; sons, Roger Alvin Zimbelman of Phoenix, Arizona and Rodney Dean (Michelle) Zimbelman of St. Joseph, Missouri. Three grandchildren, Jason (Melissa) Zimbelman of Liberty, Missouri, Karla Kiscadon of Alamogorda, New Mexico and Megan Zimbelman of St. Joseph, Missouri; six great-grandchildren; sister, Darlene (Leon) Merklin of St. Francis, KS; sister-in-law, Ruby Zimbelman of McCook, Nebraska and a host of family and friends.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. MT at Bateman Funeral Home, 211 East 11th Street in Goodland. Visitation will be Friday, January 25, 2019 from 4 to 6 p.m. MT at Bateman Funeral Home.

Clarence Fisher

Clarence Fisher, age 87, of Wichita, Kansas, formerly of Hays, passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2019. He was born July 21, 1931 in Antonino, Kansas to Clements and Pauline (Stubert) Fisher. He married Mary Ann (Kisner) on April 26, 1958. She preceded him in death on May 8, 1984. He then married Shirley (Dreher) on October 25, 1991.

Clarence was a butcher for P&B Packers and had worked at the Ramada Inn. He was a US Army veteran serving in the Korean War and a member of the American Legion and the VFW.

Clarence is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughters Joan (Daryl) Lappin, JaNelle (Steve) VanBruggen, grandsons Joshua, Jared, and Jesse Anderson; step-daughter Lisa (Pete) Smith; step-grandchildren Noah, Asher, Brielle, and Judson Smith; siblings Helen Pfeifer and Robert Fisher and numerous extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son Kevin Fisher; siblings, Alfred Fisher, Wilfred Fisher, Edwin Fisher, Esther Bieker and Irene Bieker.

Memorial services will be 10 AM Monday, January 28, 2019 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Hays, KS. Inurnment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery with military honors courtesy of the Hays VFW Honor Guard.

A memorial visitation with family present will be Monday 9 AM until service time at the church.

Dixie Lee (Patterson) Horton

Dixie Lee (Patterson) Horton, age 82, of Hays, Kansas passed away Saturday, January 19, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Society, Hays. She was born February 5, 1936 in Anthony, Kansas to Almer Allen and Ida Effie (Franklin) Patterson. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Fort Hays State University. On September 9, 1956 she married Fenton “Jerry” Horton in Salina, Kansas.

Dixie was a long time Executive Director for the Girl Scouts of Kansas with the Sunflower Girl Scout Council doing so for 26 years. Her memberships include the First Presbyterian Church of Hays where she was active in various church committees including the Presbyterian Women,  Big Creek Quilt Guild, Founding member of the Humane Society of the High Plains, Habitat for Humanity, Phi Kappa Phi and Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Societies.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry of Hays; her children, Laura Kolb and husband Kelvin of Stockton, Kansas, Frank Horton and wife Karla of Nashville, Tennessee, Lisa Hendershott and husband Ronnie of hays, David Horton and wife Chris of Phoenix, Arizona, and Linda Street of Hays; grandchildren, Darla Horton of Nashville, Caitlyn Hendershott of Lawrence, Kansas, Amy Horton and Madison Horton both of Phoenix, Brian Street of Hays and Blair Street of Quinter, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Raymond, Alvin and Ray Patterson and three sisters, Aileen Bond, Mary Byrd and Phyllis Murphy.

Sharon Gerber, age 77, of Beloit, Kansas formerly of Ellis, Kansas passed away Monday, January 21, 2019 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit.

Funeral services will be 10 AM Saturday, January 26, 2019 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellis. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorial visitation will be Friday 6 PM – 8 PM with a combined rosary and parish vigil service at 7 PM all at the church.

Ashlen Leigh Lemon, 19, Hays, died Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at the Geary Community Hospital in Junction City.

Rita Catherine (Hake) Erickson

Rita Catherine (Hake) Erickson passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at Redbud Village in Plainville, Kansas at the age of 90. She was born on April 1, 1928 in Bloom Township near Tipton, Kansas to the late John and Martha (Adam) Hake. In 1949 she was united in marriage to Raymond Mayhew. They were blessed with two daughters, Linda and Donna. In August of 1964 they divorced.

Rita spent her early years around Tipton on the family farm and attended a small one-room country school. When the Depression and dust storms in the 30’s hit, her family relocated to Plainville where she attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and later Plainville High School where she completed her freshman and sophomore years. She later obtained her GED in 1973. Rita had many jobs throughout her life. She was a switchboard operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co., owned and operated a dry cleaning establishment, was a nurse’s aide, Quality Control Inspector for Triangle Electronics, worked for a small animal clinic, and finished her job ventures as a K-Mart Corporation Manager which she retired from in 1990. Rita lived in many places from the plains of Kansas to the mountains of Colorado. While in Boulder, Colorado she met Melvin Erickson. They were united in marriage on June 12, 1972 in Huntsville, Alabama. Melvin’s job relocated the family to California. After his retirement they moved back to Colorado where Melvin passed away in September of 1983. In March of 1994 Rita moved back to Plainville where she lived out the remainder of her life.

Rita will be greatly missed by all who knew her, but her memory will live on in our hearts and minds. Through her life she taught us how to live our dreams, through her example she taught us how to enjoy the fruits of our labor, but above all, through her love, she taught us how to serve God and one another with undying devotion.

Rita is survived by her daughters Linda Thomas and husband Larry of Omaha, NE, and Donna Brown of Plainville, KS; 5 grandchildren Kit Nelson and husband Larry, Joyce Thomas, Jen Sanderson and husband Kevin, Jacob Brown, and Jessi Brown; and 8 great-grandchildren, Brendan, Kayli, Emmy, Blake, Carver, Miles, Callie, and Taylor.
She was preceded in death by her parents John and Martha Hake; husband Melvin Erickson; brothers Edward, Arnold, Joseph, Raymond, Marvin, Lawrence, Julius, Norbert, and Richard Hake; sisters Sister Helen Hake, Geraldine Karns, Mary Lee Berland, and Edna Hake.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville. Burial will follow in the Plainville Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00-8:00 P.M. on Wednesday with the family receiving friends 6:00-8:00 P.M. and a Vigil and Rosary Service at 6:00 P.M. all at Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home. Barbara Jean Lotton

Barbara Jean Lotton, 81, died on Sunday, January 20, 2019, at Logan Manor in Logan. She was born on July 26, 1937, at Dodge City the daughter of Harry Herman & Mildred (Arbogast) Hessman. She married Richard Lotton on August 25, 1957, in Dodge City. He died on September 27, 2013.

Barbara graduated from Dodge City High School and worked at Dillons in Hays while her husband was in college. They moved to Dodge City where she did seamstress work out of her home while raising her family. In 1971 they moved to Garden City and she started working at Dillons East and then when Dillons West opened she became the General Merchandise Manager. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, bowling, playing cards, the Hessman family reunions and after retiring traveling with her husband. She was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, Son-In-Law- Darrell Rehmert and 2 Brothers- Charles Hessman and Dean Hessman.

She is survived by 2 Daughters- Pam Rehmert of Eufaula, Oklahoma and Becky (Jim) Lanier of Phillipsburg, Son- Kelly (Laurie) Lotton of Houston, Texas, Sister- Karen Dunham of Copeland, 4 Grandchildren & 4 Great-Grandchildren.

Funeral Service will be at 2:00 PM Friday at Garnand Funeral Home with Rev Joel Plisek officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Paul Jason Weber

Longtime Goodland, Kansas, resident Paul Jason Weber, 52, passed away on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at the Littleton Adventist Hospital in Littleton.

Paul was born on December 6, 1966 in Dodge City, Kansas to Ron and Ann (Crick) Weber. He was one of two children. Paul grew up and attended school in Goodland, graduating from Goodland High School with the class of 1985. He then went on and attended Barber School for one year in Colorado Springs. Colorado.

Paul worked for many years as an associate for Wal-Mart. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed playing softball and going fishing.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Surviving family includes his father Ron of Goodland, his children Rachal Robles of Nebraska, Cassie Cooper of Goodland, Kansas, J.D. Weber of Texas, Jessica Weber of Texas, Kalyn Weber of Kansas City, Missouri, Britanie Weber of Grand Junction, Colorado, Tanner Weber of Goodland, Kansas and his companion of many years Cindy Leonard of Goodland, Kansas. He is also survived by his brother Steve (Merica) Weber of Sidney, Nebraska, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at 10:00 AM MT at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Goodland with Father Andrew Rockers officiating. Burial followed in the Goodland Cemetery, Goodland, Kansas.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM MT at Koons-Russell Funeral Home in Goodland. A Parish Rosary was recited at 7:00 at the funeral home.

Verna D. Lofts

Verna D. Lofts, age 67, passed away on Monday, January 21, 2019, at Wichita County Health Center in Leoti, Kansas.

Verna was born June 19, 1951, in Tribune, Kansas, the daughter of Wayne B. & Lois L. (Lane) Funk. A 1969 graduate of Wichita County High School in Leoti, she attended and graduated from airline stewardess school in Denver, Colorado and later graduated from cosmetology school in Great Bend, Kansas. She was a certified instructor of cosmetology, receiving her teaching certification in 1998. Verna was owner/operator of The Hair Spot in Leoti, Kansas and served the community as one of the hairdressers for Price & Sons Funeral Homes. She also managed the Blue Bird Inn in Marienthal, Kansas from the mid 1990s through early 2000.

Verna was an avid horticulturist, devoted mother and supporting wife. She loved giving everyone a “hard-time” and expected the same in return. Whether one first met her at the Blue Bird or saw her every week at one’s regular appointment at the Hair Spot, Verna was a friend to everyone.

On April 27, 2007, she married Mark McDaniel at Denver, Colorado.

Verna’s surviving family includes Her husband – Mark McDaniel of Leoti, Kansas, Her son – Tye Lofts of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Three siblings – Troy Funk of Holyoke, Colorado, Terry Funk of Colby, Kansas, Judy St. John of Leoti, Kansas. There are also numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, January 25, 2019, at the United Methodist Church in Leoti, Kansas with Reverend Travis King officiating.

Burial will be in Leoti Cemetery in Leoti, Kansas.

Friends may call from noon until 8:00 pm Thursday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Leoti, Kansas.

Memorials may be given to the Leoti EMT’s in care of the funeral home.

Wilmer ‘Cal’ W. Calhoon

Glade resident Wilmer “Cal” W. Calhoon passed away, January 22, 2019 in the Good Samaritan Hospital, Kearney, NE, at the age of 76.

He was born April 1, 1942 in Phillips County, KS the son of Willis W. and Ruby G. (Lindenmuth) Calhoon. He served in the United States Airforce and owned and operated a Dairy Queen in Winner, SD for many years.

He was united in marriage to Karalee A. Jorgensen on November 24, 2007 in Phillipsburg, KS. She survives.

Other survivors include a son, Cameron Calhoon of Ekron, KY; daughter, Corina Sachtjen of Ekron, KY; two step-sons, Daniel and Corey Klein both of Rapid City, SD; two brothers, Don Calhoon of Phillipsburg and Wilber Calhoon of Wales, Utah; three Sisters, Ruby Phillips of Concordia, KS, Vicki Weller of Denver, CO and Sandra Calhoon of Phillipsburg, KS; 9 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 25, 2019 in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor LeRoy Herder officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Marvin Cemetery, Glade, KS.

Memorial contributions will be designated at a later date.

Billy C. Randall

Kirwin resident Billy C. Randall passed away Nov. 25, 2018 at his home in Kirwin, KS at the age of 86.

He was born in Agra, Kansas on January 7, 1932, the son of Irwin & Frieda (White) Randall.

Survivors include his wife, Janice, of Lake Stevens, WA; son, Chuck, of Dickensen, TX and stepson, Kevin Plunkett, of San Diego, CA; daughter, Teresa Wiseman of Peculiar, MO and stepdaughter, Val Baldwin of Stevens Lake, WA; sisters, Leatrice Hanks, Lila Bryant, Bonnie Davis and Patty Martin; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family chose cremation. A memorial service & celebration of Bill’s life will be Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Michael Ricci-Roberts officiating.

Friends may sign the book on Friday, Jan. 25, from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the chapel.
