Donald L. Reichard

Donald L. Reichard, of Stockton, passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville at the age of 79. Donald was born in Stockton, Kansas April 9, 1939 to the late Edward and Esther “Francis” Reichard. The Stockton native was united in marriage to Charlene Gengler and to this union, Douglas, Steve, and David were born. Don and Charlene later divorced.

Don was a veteran of the United States Navy. During his time in the Navy he worked as an aircraft mechanic. Following his discharge from the Navy, Don worked in Eldorado, Kansas for the State Highway Department as their head mechanic. Don taught school as an auto mechanic teacher in Wyoming and Kansas and later In 1971 he built his auto body shop in Stockton, where he provided services to the Rooks County communities for over 45 years.

In his spare-time he enjoyed hunting and fishing and he occasionally attended the Assembly of God church.

Don is survived by his three sons; Douglas Reichard and wife Shari of Woodston, Steve Reichard and wife Dianne of Marion, and David Reichard and wife Jenny of Stockton; 7 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.Don is preceded in death by his parents, Edward Reichard and Esther Ruth (Francis) Luckey; and brother William “Bill” Reichard.

Graveside service will be held Thursday, November 8, 2018 at the Stockton Cemetery at 11:00 AM. Memorials are suggested to the VFW Post #8873 and may be sent in care of Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home, 723 N. 1st, Stockton, KS 67669.

Michael David Graham

Michael David Graham passed away November 2, 2018 at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville at the age of 62. He was born in Denver, CO on October 17, 1956 to Robert and Ardia (Spencer) Graham. Michael married Lori Graham in Golden, CO on May 3, 1997.

Michael was the greatest outdoorsman. He loved all hunting and fishing. He also loved being Beau’s right-side guy when he was drag racing. He so enjoyed his grandchildren and watching Lolly (Tawny) play basketball.

Michael is survived by his wife Lori Graham of Plainville; sons Beau Drexler and wife Michelle of Ellis, and James Graham; daughters Tawny Baxter and husband Ryan of Russell, and Shelly Walt of Colorado Springs, CO; brother Robert “Bob” Graham of Penrose, CO; sister Sharon Scanlon of Arvada, CO; and 5 grandchildren Logan Walt, Landon Walt, Ruby Baxter, Nolan Baxter, and Charles Drexler.He is preceded by his parents Robert and Ardia Graham.

John David Woods

John David Woods, 57, of La Crosse, Kansas, passed away on November 6, 2018, after fighting a tough two and half year battle with cancer.

John was born March 20, 1961, in Clearwater, Kansas, to Marleene (Mourning) Woods. A country boy who became devoted to farm work at an early age, tending the farm at dawn, attending school, and returning home to continue his chores. He grew up his elementary years in Garden City Kansas. Moving to McCracken Kansas, in Jr. High and then moving to Rush Center, Kansas. He graduated from La Crosse High School, La Crosse, Kansas, in 1979.

On October 29, 1983, he married Carolyn Kline. John was her high school sweet heart. John devoted his life to caring for his family and his love for driving and dispatching trucks. He recently worked for Miller Trucking in La Crosse, Kansas. When asked about his hobbies, he would often state “I am a workaholic”. He spent most of the last few years enjoying time with his kids and one grandchild. He also found a love of the mountains.

John is survived by his wife, Carolyn Woods, La Crosse, Kansas; four children, Samantha Kelly, and her husband, Michael Kelly, of Westminster, Colorado, Christopher Woods of Wichita, Kansas, David Woods of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Sabrina Woods of Hays, Kansas; one grandchild, Harvey Kelly of Westminster, Colorado; his mother, Marleene Woods, Clearwater, Kansas; and one sister, Tammie Keen, and her husband, Tim Keen, Terre Haute, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Toy Ann Woods; grandfather, John Mourning, Jr., and grandmother, Irene (Jones) Mourning.

Visitation will be Friday, November 9, 2018, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, Kansas, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. A vigil service and rosary will be at 7:00 P.M.

Church visitation will be Saturday, November 10, 2018, from 9:00 A.M. to 9:50 A.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas.

Funeral service will be Saturday, November 10, 2018, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas, with Father Eric Gyamfi, and Father Edmond Kline officiating. Interment will be in the La Crosse City Cemetery, La Crosse, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers or plants, the family request memorials to the John David Woods Memorial Fund.

Thomas Michael Pruett

Thomas Michael Pruett went to be with the Lord on October 25, 2018 in Colby, KS.

He was born on June 18, 1950 in Columbus, Indiana. He married Shelley Jean Brown on September 22, 2001 in Colby, Kansas

He is survived by Shelley and 2 children, Kelley Quintero of Colby, KS and Jason Pruett of Chicago, Illinois. He had 2 grandchildren, 4 step-children and 14 step-grandchildren.

Tom was a a United Methodist Minister for 18 years, serving in Illinois before moving to Kansas. He was a die-hard Chicago Cubs and Bears fan.

He is now resting with the Lord, no more suffering.

Leona (Herrman) Vsetecka, age 82, of Victoria, KS, passed away on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at Via Christi Village of Hays. She was born January 28, 1936.

Michael L. Spicer

Michael L. Spicer, Jr., age 22, of Larned, KS, passed away on Sunday, November 4, 2018 at HaysMed. He was born on December 12, 1995 in Russell, KS.

Michael will be remembered as someone that was outgoing and always willing to help someone in need. He enjoyed playing video games and spending time with his family and friends

Survivors include his mother, Ruth Pagh of Larned; four sisters, Tasha Spicer, Alexandra Rees, Rheanon Clark, Kya Rabenseifner; maternal grandparents, Chad and Sandra Rees; one niece and two nephews; three aunts and three cousins. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his cousin, Matthew Dell.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Bradley Dean Leiker

Bradley Dean Leiker, 61, passed away November 6, 2018, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, Kansas. He was born November 4, 1957, in Aurora, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Esther (Denning) Stimmel; his only brother, William Leiker and a nephew, Ryan Leiker.

Bradley is survived by his wife Theresa Leiker of the home; his first wife, Patricia (Davis) McCartney, and his five children; Paul Leiker, Anthony Leiker, Nickalaus Leiker,
William Leiker, and Elizabeth (Leiker) Daniels. Also his eight grandchildren, Alexandria Leiker, Makayla Leiker, Trinity Scripsick, Clayton Aguierre, Jazmin Leiker Martin, Ray Aguirre, Derek Daniels, Quinton Daniels, and Liam Leiker.

Cremation has taken place and Memorial Service will be at the Duck Blind in Hoisington on Saturday, November 10th, 2018, from 2 to 5 p.m.

Edward L. Selensky

DODGE CITY — Edward L. Selensky, 58, died Thursday, November 1, 2018 at his home in Dodge City. Ed was born on May 19, 1960 in Quinter, Kansas to Norbert Selensky and Patricia Schumacher Selensky.

Ed spent most of his life in Dodge City and worked for Sante Fe Trail Glass Company for many years. Ed had numerous hobbies and enjoyed hunting, playing pool, collecting coins, and most of all fishing. His passion for fishing was passed on to numerous nieces and nephews.

Ed is survived by 4 brothers. Monty (Mary), Hays; Terry (Melanie), Dodge City; Troy, Hutchinson; Trampus (Sarah), Olathe and 2 sisters, Laurie, Dodge City, and Lisa, Dodge City; 16 nieces and nephews, and 16 great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Sheila Selensky, his long time companion and love of his live, Felicia Viegra Woodson; 1 niece, Samantha Charles, and 1 great niece, Laken Ann Seyb.

Memorial service will be 10:00 am Friday November 9, 2018 at Ziegler Funeral Chapel with Fr. Wesley Shawe presiding. Book signing will be 10:00 am to 5:00 pm Thursday at Ziegler Funeral Chapel.

Dee Ann Buffington Nurnberg

Dee Ann Buffington Nurnberg, 75, of Mansfield, Texas, died Saturday, September 29th 2018, she passed away peacefully at her home in Mansfield Texas. Dee Ann was born February 12, 1943, in Great Bend Kansas, the daughter of Tom Buffington and Marie Herbel Buffington.

Dee Ann graduated from Hoisington High School in Hoisington, Kansas with the class of 1961. After graduation Dee Ann’s career and family took her all over the United States, her favorite places to live had been Denver and New Hampshire, however Dee always considered Hoisington her home. In Dee’s spare time she enjoyed crafts, reading and spending time with her family, especially her two amazing grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Wendi Pollack of Nashua NH; two grandchildren, Jonathan Pollack of Arlington TX and Joycelyn Pollack of Nashua NH; a sister Pam Basye of Mansfield TX; and many nieces and nephews who absolutely adored her.

She was preceded in death by her father, Tom Buffington, mother, Marie Buffington, sister, Judy Shull, brother, James Buffington and her husband Raymond Nurnberg.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, November 17 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hoisington City Cemetery with Reverend Wayne Baldyga officiating.

Billy Dean Black

Billy Dean Black of Hoxie, Kansas passed away at the Sheridan County Long Term Care on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at the age of 86. Billy was born to Vernon D. and Ethel G. (Sadil) Black on September 8 1932 in Fairbury , Nebraska. He grew up in Nebraska, Colorado and Kansas.

He served in the United States Navy from 1951-1953. During this time, he served as a pipe fitter on 4 different ships during the Korean War. After being discharged from the Navy, he worked several different jobs until he moved to California in 1956. He worked for the Southern Kern School District for 30 years as the Maintenance Supervisor. After his retirement in 1992, he moved back to Hoxie, Kansas.

Billy is survived by his 2 sisters, Donna Deibert, North Platte, NE and Peno Randolph, Hoxie, KS, and many nieces and nephews.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Vernon and Ethel Black, one brother, Omie Black, and two brother-in-laws, Dimp Randolph and Kenneth Deibert.

Richard ‘Rick’ William Schroeder

JETMORE – Richard “Rick” William Schroeder, age 59, God’s face shined upon him and gave him peace at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas, on November 3, 2018.

He was born November 20, 1958 in Jetmore, Kansas, the son of Richard and Elizabeth (Roller) Schroeder. A lifetime area resident of Jetmore, he was a farmer/stockman.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church. He was devoted to his family farming operation, a business he built with his father and grandfather, and loved that he was able to pass it on to his sons. Whenever he was able, he loved to sneak away for a fishing trip and return home for a fish fry with his family and friends. Rick enjoyed riding motorcycles, going to the races, spending time with his kids, and spoiling his grandkids. Most of all, he loved spending time with the love of his life, Julie. He married Julie Liska on July 21, 1979 in Lyons, KS. She survives.

Other survivors include: his mother and father, Richard and Elizabeth (Libby) Schroeder, Jetmore; three sons, RJ Schroeder and wife Janel, Lee Schroeder and wife Denise, and Brit Schroeder and wife Jocelyn, all of Jetmore; two sisters, Pam Ruff and husband Lonnie, Hanston, and Barb Cossman and husband Doug, Jetmore; eight grandchildren; Tiana, Jayla, Carson, Gavin, Brody, Halle, Reese, Harper and another grandson due in February; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at United Methodist Church in Jetmore, KS with Pastors Thad D’Ambroisia, Ronnie Ruff and Cyd Stein presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Beckwith Funeral Home, Jetmore. Burial will be in the Fairmount Cemetery, Jetmore.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Jetmore City Lake picnic area in care of Beckwith Funeral Home, Box 663 Jetmore, KS 67854.

Anita Jo Brewer

Anita Jo Brewer, 75, died November 5, 2018, at Hays Medical Center. She was born June 28, 1943, in Sylvan Grove, Kansas, the daughter of Joe and Hester (Lantz) Shanelec. Anita graduated from Hoisington High School 1962.

She married Garrel Ray Brewer in June of 1966. They later divorced.

Anita grew up in Hoisington and moved to Lucas in 1978. She moved back to Hoisington in 1991. During her time in Hoisington she was a member of the United Methodist Church. Then following some health concerns she moved to Locust Grove Village, in La Crosse in 2008, where she thoroughly enjoyed participating in the many activities including the Red Hat Society and the Bell Choir.

She is survived by her son, Darrin Brewer and wife Shanna of Hays; brother, Steve Shanelec and wife Kathryn of Wichita; and three grandchildren, Rylee, Raegan, and Chase Brewer.

Friends may call Friday, 9 a.m. until service with family to greet friends just prior to service at 1 p.m. Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Friday, November 9, 2018, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Don Fisher presiding. Burial will follow in Wilson Cemetery, Wilson, Kansas.

Kary Dee Anderson

Kary Dee Anderson was born on January 05, 1954. He was the 4th child (3rd son) of Donald and Nadine Anderson of Oberlin, Kansas. He grew up in Oberlin and was active in sports, excelling in wrestling during high school years. He married the love of his life, Jackie Spratling, of Norton, Kansas, on August 16, 1974. They made their home in Oberlin where he worked with his father at the Anderson Farm Implement business until Kary took over the business in 1996, naming the business Decatur County Implement.

Kary was a hard worker, dedicated to his family and local farmers. He will be remembered for his pleasant personality, dedication to his family and his business. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and gave special attention to his dog. Although Kary struggled with health issues the past six years, he displayed an amazing will to live, but succumbed to cancer on November 02, 2018.

Kary is survived by his faithful wife Jackie, of Oberlin, Kansas; their son, Dane; six siblings, Marilee Lambert and husband Dave, Roland Anderson, Alan Anderson and wife Guynn, Kent Anderson, Roger Anderson and wife Pam, Jeff Anderson and wife Gwen, and sister-in-law Betty Hiser.

Kary was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Nadine Anderson; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Billie and Virginia Spratling, and brother-in-law, Robert Hiser.
