Bruce Paul Lopez

Memorial Mass for Bruce Paul Lopez, 61, Lawrence, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 12, 2019 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lawrence. Bruce passed away Thursday, October 3, 2019. A Rosary will be recited Friday, October 11th at 5 p.m. with a visitation to follow until 7 p.m. at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.

Bruce was born on July 3, 1958, in Garden City, Kansas, the son of Paul and Antonia (Blea) Lopez. Bruce grew up in Garden City, Kansas. He attended Thomas More Prep high school and University of Kansas.
He was the Director of Sales for a collection services company.

He married Mary Katherine Holter on June 8, 1996, in Lawrence, KS. The center of his life was his family, and he especially treasured his four grandsons and embraced every moment with them. He never met a stranger and was blessed with wonderful friends and coworkers who he considered his second family. Bruce will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Mary, his daughter, Jessica Dwyer, Olathe, KS; son, Brian(Jessica) Dwyer, Wichita, four grandsons, Devon (9), twin grandsons, Travis and Brooks (6), and Easton (6 weeks); his father, Paul Lopez, Garden City, KS; sisters Patsy Ramirez Blackburn, Holcolm, KS; Paula Lopez Stevenson, Cimarron, KS; brother, Alexander Ramirez, Garden City, KS; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Antonia Lopez.

Lester Roy Fredde

Lester Roy Fredde, son of Henry August and Lydia Alvina (Meyer) Fredde, was born February 17, 1927 near Densmore, Kansas, and passed away in Wichita, Kansas, on October 6, 2019, at the age of 92.

Lester grew up on a farm and attended Whitfield school in Graham County. Lester served in WWII as a Tech Sergeant in the U.S. Infantry. Lester was united in marriage to the love of his life, Evelyn McMulkin in 1949 in Norton, Kansas, where they made their home. Later after the service he worked for Bennett Motors in Norton and ran a Ford Tractor Dealership with his brother, Albert. He also worked for the City of Norton in the power plant and retired after 20 years.

Lester was a life member and Past Commander of American Legion Harmonson-Redd Post #63, charter member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 3288, and a life time member of VFW Myers-Hesler Post 1260, Phillipsburg, KS, AARP and former member of Norton JayCees. Lester and Evelyn loved to travel and spend time on their houseboat on Norton Dam together.

Survivors include: one brother, Delmar, and wife, Joyce Fredde; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; many other relatives and friends.

Lester was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evelyn; three brothers, Albert, and his wife, Iva; Edward and William Henry; four sisters, Mary, and husband, Walter Stelling; Martha, and husband, Lewis Colip; AlDora, and husband, LaVerne Furman; Hazel Wilber.

John H. Chamberlain, age 79, of Hays, KS passed away September 13, 2019 in Hays. He was born on July 11, 1940.

Richard Lee ‘Rick’ Scheck

Richard Lee “Rick” Scheck, age 58, died Monday, October 7, 2019, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.

He was born October 20, 1960, at Pratt, Kansas, to Victor G. and Marlene “Toots” Scheck. He married Sandy (VonFeldt) on October 3, 1987, at Victoria, Kansas.

He grew up in Victoria and was a 1979 graduate of Victoria High School. He worked at King of the Road in Russell, Kansas for 21 years and at Fort Hays State University in construction and maintenance for 18 years. He enjoyed vegetable gardening and picking blackberries, maintain yards and was a handyman. He was a landowner and enjoyed harvesting and spending time with his tenants.

Survivors include his wife, Sandy Scheck, of the home; one son Cody Scheck and wife, Mikayla, Hays, KS; one brother, Frank Scheck and friend, Patrick Weston, Overland Park, KS; his father-in-law, James VonFeldt and wife, Constance, Victoria, KS; his mother-in-law, Charlene Unrein and husband, Frank, Gorham, KS;

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral mass will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday, at the Basilica of St. Fidelis, Victoria, Kansas. Burial will be in St. Fidelis Cemetery, Victoria, Kansas.

Carma Lea Chrisler

Carma Lea Chrisler, age 58, of Hays, Kansas died Monday, October 7, 2019, at her home.

She was born September 24, 1961, in Hays, Kansas to James E. and Theresa (Dinkel) Giebler. She married Chris Chrisler on November 13, 1982, in Hays, Kansas.

She was a histotechnologist for Quest Laboratory in Hays for 38 years starting at Hays Pathology Laboratory. She grew up in Hays, and was a 1979 graduate of Hays High School and attended Emporia State University. She played volleyball and basketball
in high school and college. She enjoyed collecting antiques and Coca-Cola items, fishing, the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals, KU basketball, trips with her sisters, and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband, Chris Chrisler, of the home; two sons, Brady Vitztum-Chrisler and husband, Lucas, Lenexa, KS; Brett Chrisler, Lawrence, KS; one daughter, Bailee Chrisler, Hays, KS; three brothers, Greg Giebler and wife, Laura, Esterville, IA; Steve Giebler and wife, Debbie, Great Bend, KS; James A. Giebler and wife, Stacy, Westerville, OH; four sisters, Sheila Neuburger, Lawrence, KS; Pam Diehl and husband, Steve, Wichita, KS; Rebecca Deatherage and husband, David, Russell, KS; Deborah Fall and husband, Scott, Hays, KS; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dale and Jean Chrisler, Oakley, KS.

Noel L. Turley

Noel L. Turley, age 52, passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2019 at the St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas.

He was born on June 21, 1967 in Garden City, Kansas, the son of Melvin Quinton and Jean Ann Dauma Turley. A lifetime resident of Scott City, Kansas, he was a carpenter and fabricator.

Noel was a 1985 gradate of Scott Community High School and was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Scott City, Kansas.

Survivors include his One Son – Mel Q. Turley of Garden City, Kansas, One Daughter – Samantha M. Briggs of Holcomb, Kansas, Mother – Jean Ann Turley of Scott City, Kansas, One Granddaughter, Nancy LeAnn Turley of Garden City, Kansas, Two Grandsons, Three Brothers – David L. Turley of Scott City, Kansas, Keith L. Turley of Phoenix, Arizona, Nathan L. Turley of Scott City, Kansas and One Sister – Connie Wright of Scott City, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his Father.

Funeral Services will be held at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Scott City, Kansas at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 10, 2019 with Pastor Warren Prochnow presiding.

Interment will be in the Scott County Cemetery in Scott City, Kansas.

Addie Marie Dunlap

Addie Marie Dunlap, 43, died Saturday, October 5, 2019 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City. She was born March 8, 1976 in Goodland, Kansas the daughter of Timothy Joseph & Susan Kay (Bowen) Hill.

Addie grew up and attended schools in Hays and Russell. In 1989, she moved with her family to Holcomb where she graduated from high school in 1994. After high school, Addie moved to Garden City and has lived in Garden City since. A homemaker, she worked for many years as a CNA in home health. She was a member of Cornerstone Church in Garden City. Addie’s hobbies include going to the beach, bacon cheese fries, her church activities, and spending time with her children. She loved animals, especially her dogs “Remi”, “Hazel”, & “Ceasar”, bird watching, and turtles. Addie also had a true hatred for June Bugs.

On September 5, 1998, she married Mark Dunlap in Garden City. He survives. Other survivors include four sons Matthew Dunlap (Carissa), Brandon Dunlap, Aaron Dunlap (Kaelene Francis), and Preston Dunlap all of Garden City; a daughter Sydney Dunlap of Garden City; her father Timothy Joseph Hill of Hays, Kansas; two brothers Joseph Hill (Becky) of Garden City and Jonathan Koppel of Stillwater, Oklahoma; and one grandchild Kynslea Dunlap. Addie is preceded in death by her mother.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 11, 2019 at Cornerstone Church in Garden City with Pastor Ed Binns officiating. A private family interment will take place at a later date. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. The family suggests memorials given to the Addie Dunlap Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.

Betty S. Nauert

Betty S. Nauert, 95, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Hays, KS on October 6, 2019 after a long and full life.

She was born January 2, 1924 on the farm in Glencoe Townships, Trego County to Rudolph and Caroline Georgian Seibel, the last of their 10 children.

She was a graduate of Trego County High School, Wakeeney, and attended Adela Hale School of Business in Hutchinson.

Betty married Edward Eugene Nauert on May 25, 1948 in Larned, KS. He preceded her in death on July 1, 2002. After marriage, they settled in Larned where they raised a family of five girls. She was employed at First State Bank and Trust Co. beginning of March 21, 1949, retiring April 30, 1990 and met many wonderful people throughout those years.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Altar Society, American Legion Auxiliary, V.F.W. Auxiliary, volunteered in Girl Scouts and the American Cancer Society.

Survivors include her five daughters, Carol Mott and fiancé Arlyn Smith, Wichita, Cathy Kuhn and husband Tom, Hays, Connie Lett, Olathe, Cherie Berndt and husband Terry, Manhattan, Cristi Mourn and husband Richard, Colorado Springs, CO; nine grandchildren: Ryan Mott and wife Haley, Melissa Mott, Brian Kuhn and wife Courtney, Brandon Kuhn and wife Ann, Ethan Lett, Hunter Berndt, Austin Mourn and wife Starla, Cambria Mourn, Jenna Mourn, and four great grandchildren: Clara Mott, Ruby Mott, Lola Mott, and Crislynn Mourn; a sister-in-law Faye Seibel, and many special nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers: Rudy Seibel and wife Eloise, Ervin, who passed away in infancy, Ed Seibel and wife Anna, Martin Seibel and wife Gwen, Carl Seibel and wife Norma, Henry Seibel; three sisters: Stella Tauscher and husband Lee, Erma Rueschhoff and husband Bill, Lydia Rueschhoff and husband Bob.

Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 11, 2019 at Sacred Heart Church, Larned with Father Bernard Felix officiating, with burial in Larned Cemetery, Larned. Visitation 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 10, 2019 with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned.

LoVonna K. Jerauld

LoVonna K. Jerauld, age 58, passed peacefully on September 28, 2019, following a long battle with cancer.

LoVonna was born November 14, 1960, in Garden City, Kansas, the daughter of Chester & Darlene (Rapier) Jerauld. LoVonna graduated in 1979 from Wichita County High School in Leoti, Kansas. She was employed in the Medical Bookkeeping Field for many years before her failing health forced her to step away.

Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 am, Thursday, October 17, 2019 at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Leoti, Kansas with Pastor Warren Prochnow officiating.

Burial will be in Leoti Cemetery in Leoti, Kansas.

There will be no calling times.

Pauline Lucy Bender

Pauline Lucy Bender, 88, of Russell, Kansas died on Saturday, October 5, 2019, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas

A celebration of Pauline’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, October 11, 2019, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, Kansas, with Pastor Michael Eurit officiating.

A private family burial will follow at the Russell City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. on Thursday, October 10, 2019, at the mortuary with family present to greet guests from 6 P.M. to 7 P.M. Thursday evening.

Memorials may be given to the Russell Historical Society and sent in care of the mortuary.

Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.

Joyce L. Lofland

Joyce L. Lofland, 88, died October 5, 2019, at home with her family by her side. She was born February 10, 1931, in Great Bend, the daughter of Carl and Zoe (Hull) Mohr. On June 18, 1949, she married James R. Lofland in Wichita. He survives.

Joyce was a life time resident of Great Bend and a member of Central Baptist Church. She graduated from Great Bend High School, and later worked at Komarek Jewelry store and the Courthouse Appraisers office. She was very involved in Girl Scouts as a leader, a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Central Baptist Women’s Group and the Great Bend Women’s Temperance League.

Joyce is survived by her husband, James R. Lofland of the home; her children, Janna Huschka and husband Kurt of Hutchinson, Jill Hopper and husband Derrel of Arvada, Col., Jerry Lofland and wife Paige of Great Bend, and Jackie Goosen and husband LoWayne of Freeman, S.D.; her brothers, Jimmy Mohr of Woodbine, Richard Mohr and wife Nita of Great Bend, and Tommy Mohr of Topeka; her sisters, Rosie Kruckenberg and husband Larry of Great Bend, and Marilyn Kae of Nashville, Tenn.; 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Joyce was preceeded in death by her parents and her children, James Lofland and Julia Barnes; her brothers, Carl Mohr, Robert Mohr and Douglas Mohr; and her sister, Gini Sharp.

There will be no visitation, as cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, 2019, at Central Baptist Church, with Pastor Daniel Dugas, followed by a meal in the fellowship hall. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be made to Central Baptist Memorial Fund, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
