Shirley Mae Hayden

Lifelong Goodland, KS resident Shirley Mae Hayden, 90, passed away on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at the Via Christi Village in Hays, KS, where she had been residing since January, 2018.

Shirley was born in Goodland on December 11, 1927 to William Henry (Hank) and Lenna (Miller) Walker. She was the third of five children; Robert, Norman (Joe), Shirley, William (Bunkie) and Bonnie Carlton.

Shirley graduated from Sherman County High School in 1945. She then went on and attended Fort Hays State Teacher’s College from 1945-1947.

On September 3, 1949, Shirley married Joseph Dale Hayden in Raton, New Mexico. To this union, three children, Shyrl, Susan and Bill were born.

Shirley worked for many years as a legal secretary for Tom Ogilvie Law Firm, First Insurance Agency and as a secretary for Goodland High School. She also worked as a bookkeeper at the Goodland Greenhouse and for Cowboy Loop. She volunteered on the Sherman County Cemetery Board for 25 years, NWK Hospital Gift Shop, Red Cross Blood Drives and was a mentor to 3rd grade students at West School in the reading program.
Preceding her in death were her parents, all 4 siblings, her husband of 64 years and two grandsons, Gary Lynn Luea and Levi Hayden.

She is survived by her children; Shryl (Gary) Luea of Ellis, Kansas, Susan (Charles) Hall of Salina, Kansas, and Bill (Ronda) Hayden of Hays, Kansas. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren Zach (Emily) Luea of Overland Park, KS, Shane Hall (Lindsey Martin) of Lindsborg, KS, Josh (Erin) Luea of Hoover, AL, Brandon (Sara) Hayden of Colorado Springs, CO, and Shala (Arron) Koelzer of Olathe, KS; ten great grandchildren, MacKenzie Hall, Hunter Hall, Isabela Hall, Bayden Koelzer, Grayson Koelzer, Andrew Luea, Avery and Jocelyn Luea, Will Hayden and DeLaney Luea.

First and foremost, she was a Mom, Grandma and Great Grandma. Her greatest joy was family gatherings at the holidays.

Funeral services for Shirley will be held on Monday, September 17, 2018 at 10:00 AM MT at Koons-Russell Funeral Home in Goodland, with Pastor Zach Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in the Goodland Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 16, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM MT at Koons-Russell Funeral Home in Goodland.

Memorials may be designated to the Goodland Regional Medical Center Auxiliary and may be left at the services or mailed to Koons-Russell Funeral Home, 211 N. Main Ave., Goodland, KS 67735.

Loren E. Dillon

Loren E. Dillon, 79, passed away June 3, 2018 at St. Frances Hospital in Wichita,Ks. He was born on Dec. 3rd 1938 in Webster, Ks.

Loren will be forever remembered by his wife Sharron Ross Dillon, daughters Kellie Leiker (Larry) and Kimberly Loibl (Glenn) and four grandchildren, Brandi Wise, Brandt Wise (Stephanie), Brad Leiker (Ashley) and BreAnne Leiker (Freddy).

Sister Patricia Herl (Dan) brother Mitchell Dillon (Sherene) 7 great-grandchildren many nieces & nephews and one maternal Aunt, Alice Bowens of Palco, Ks.

Preceded in death by his parents, Austin and Edith Dillon, sisters Marilyn Dillon and Pamela Dillon-Werth (Andy).

Loren served in the Army for 2 years, then loved his work in the Oil field as Operations Manager with Great Guns and Distirct Manager with Welex (a division of Halliburton) for over 30 years.

In his retirement Loren worked at Richie Sand, Durham & First Student School Services and enjoyed the children so very much.

Loren was ‘ONE OF A KIND’ and will be missed greatly. We LOVE YOU DAD!

The Celebration of Loren’s life will be Sunday October 7th, 2018, 3:00pm at the VFW 2106 Vine St. Hays, KS.

Roger D. Wetter

Roger D. Wetter, 67, died at his home in Norton, Kansas on September 10, 2018. He was born March 26, 1951 in Norton, Kansas to George and Zeta (Nusse) Wetter. Roger was raised on the family farm three miles east and a mile north of Norton along with his brother and two sisters. He attended Frog Pond County School and Norton Elementary and High School graduating with the class of 1970. After graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army, serving his country during the Vietnam War. He married Lynnette Staab on October 14, 1978 in Hays, Kansas. They made their home in Norton and were blessed with one son, Jeremy.

Roger held a few odd jobs before going to work for New Age where he worked as a welder from 1983 to 2017. He had to quit working due to poor health. Besides working at New Age, he had a lawn service for many years mowing 20 or more lawns. He worked very hard and long hours to provide for his family.

He was a member of Knights of Columbus, St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, and Norton American Legion Post #63. In his limited spare time, he liked to collect baseball caps and ink pens. He enjoyed spending time with his friends, but most of all he loved being with his wife and son. They were the loves of his life and the most important people in his life. There was nothing he would not do for them.

Roger is survived by his son, Jeremy Wetter of Norton, Kansas; brother Edwin A. Wetter of Oxford, Nebraska; sister, Caron Wetter of Limon, Colorado; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lynnette Wetter; parents, H. George and Zeta Wetter; and a sister Laura Sweeley.

A Mass of Christian Burial is planned for Saturday, September 15, 2018, 10:00 A.M. at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Norton, Kansas. Interment will be in the Norton Cemetery immediately following the Service. Visitation will be held Friday, September 14, 2018 at Pauls Funeral Home, Oberlin, Kansas, from 9:00 A.M. until 3:00 P.M. and from 5:00 P.M. until 7:30 P.M. at the St. Francis of Assisi Parish Hall, and family will be receiving friends from 5:00 P.M. until 7:30 P.M. A Vigil Service will be held at 7:30 P.M. in the Parish Hall on Friday, September 14, 2018. Family suggests memorials to the Roger D. Wetter Memorial Fund and may be sent in care of Pauls Funeral Home, 121 N. Penn Ave., Oberlin, Kansas 67749.

Roger has gone home to join his loving wife. He would ask that you think of him when you are lonely and see his smile. His pain is gone forever, and God has taken away his fears. Know that God will send you a happy memory of him when you are sad.

Joyce Ann (Pulec) Marcotte

Joyce Ann (Pulec) Marcotte passed away on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at Redbud Village in Plainville, Kansas at the age of 87. She was born on September 22, 1930 in Hays, Kansas to the late Eddie E. and Marjorie (Morris) Pulec and grew up in Plainville with her two brothers, Jack and Mick, and graduated from Plainville High School. She was united in marriage to Leroy Marcotte on August 16, 1950 in Zurich, Kansas. They were blessed with a son, Tony.

Joyce had many interests and passions. In her younger days she was an avid golfer and enjoyed bowling having won many trophies, in both sports, over the years. She liked being outdoors, camping, boating, skiing, and fishing. As a lover of music, she not only sang and played the organ, but developed a lifelong passion for her favorite musician, the king himself, Elvis Presley. She visited Graceland three times, and had a huge collection of his music and memorabilia. When she could no longer play golf, she watched it on television all the time, and became a huge Tiger Woods fan. She also liked watching football and was a diehard Dallas Cowboys follower.

Joyce was a loving and hardworking wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She worked at the hospital in Plainville, as a bookkeeper for Leroy’s business, Triple M Tank Service, worked at the Coastal Mart, and finally at the Dairy Queen, where she worked for over twenty years until the age of 84. She always loved the people she worked with and all of the friends and neighbors she got to see while working. She was very disheartened when she finally had to retire from work. But the time she loved the most was spending it with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Forever young at heart, she will be missed by all who knew her.

Joyce is survived by her son Tony Marcotte and wife Renee; brother Jack Pulec; grandchildren Missy Cadoret and husband Tony, Raquel Witt and husband Jason, and Brent Marcotte; great-grandchildren Justine, Trinity, Calliegh, Ayden, Phoenix, Aubree, Cruz, and Cason; and great-great-grandchildren Kambree, and Karlyn.

She was preceded in death by her parents Eddie and Marjorie Pulec, husband Leroy Marcotte, brother Mick Pulec, and grandson Cody Kaba.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00am on Friday, September 14, 2018 at Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home in Plainville. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Plainville. There will be no visitation.

Parker Devon Dennis Schmidt Goldsberry

Parker Devon Dennis Schmidt Goldsberry, age 24, of Hays, Kansas passed away Sunday, September 9, 2018 in Hays. He was born April 4, 1994 in Hutchinson, Kansas to David Goldsberry and Melinda Demoret.

Parker graduated from TMP-Marian High School in 2013. While at TMP he participated in cross country and wrestling and was a Service Award recipient. He was working as a HVAC technician with Glassman Corporation in Hays.

He is survived by his father, David Goldsberry of Hays; his mother, Melinda Demoret of Hutchinson; a brother, James Demoret of Larned; a sister Danielle Demoret of Hutchinson; a grandfather, Daniel Demoret of Hutchinson; a niece, Harmony Demoret and three nephews, Carter Demoret, Jerrell Bradshaw and Jordan Bradshaw.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Bryce Zizumbo; maternal grandmother, Vickie Demoret and his paternal grandparents, James and Bonni Goldsberry.

Funeral services will be 10 AM Saturday, September 15, 2018 at St. Joseph’s catholic Church in hays. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday 5 PM – 7 PM with a combined parish vigil and rosary service at 6 PM all at Brock’s-Keithley Funeral Chapel and Crematory 2509 Vine Hays, KS 67601.

Lorene Giesick

Lorene Giesick, age 89, passed away on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at Wichita County Health Center in Leoti, Kansas.

Born Florence Lorene Ray on January 2, 1929 in Cimarron, Kansas, the daughter of Willie C. & Lulanell E. (Dealy) Ray, she was a retired medical records clerk for Wichita County Health Center and a resident of Leoti, Kansas since 1947 moving from Tribune, Kansas. She was a 1947 graduate of Greeley County High School in Tribune, Kansas.

Lorene was a member of the United Methodist Church in Leoti, Kansas as well as a 65 year member of Rebakah Lodge. She was also a charter member of the Wichita County Municipal Golf Course.

On July 10, 1948 she married Earl F. Giesick in Leoti, Kansas. Earl passed away on August 20, 2013 in Leoti, Kansas.

Lorene’s surviving family includes-

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at the United Methodist Church in Leoti, Kansas with Pastor Travis King officiating.

Burial will be in Leoti Cemetery in Leoti, Kansas.

Friends may call from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm Thursday and from 10:00 am until 8:00 pm Friday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Leoti, Kansas.

Memorials may be given to the United Methodist Church or Leoti EMT’S in care of the funeral home.

Gary Eugene Anschutz

Gary Eugene Anschutz, 78, of Galatia, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.

Gary was born June 13, 1940 in Hays, the son of Jacob and Lorraine (Trapp) Anschutz. He grew up in Paradise, Kansas and graduated from Luray High School.

Gary served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1962 to 1968. He served on the USS Compton and the USS Arcadia. He was also stationed at Imperial Beach, California and Newport, Rhode Island. After his tour of duty was completed he returned to Hays to attend college. He then married Peggy Osthoff, rural Athol, Kansas, had two children, John and Judy, and lived in rural Paradise and Gorham. Then from 1995 to 2000 he lived in Rocky Ford, Colorado. From 2000 to 2007 he lived in Great Bend, Kansas and from 2007 on he lived in Galatia.

Gary was a teacher and coach in Paradise, Osborne Jr. High, Rocky Ford, Colorado, and Great Bend Middle School. He taught History, Social Science, and English as a Second Language. He also was a Rancher, Noxious Weed Supervisor, and Emergency Management Coordinator. He had a great love for working with horses and cattle. He was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Russell and the Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend, Kansas. He was a member of the Russell V.F.W. #6240 and the American Legion Post 0509. He was active in the Russell Masonic Lodge, ISIS Shrine, Scottish Rite, ISIS Gridiron Club, Santa Fe Trail Association and the Ft. Larned Old Guard. During his free time he enjoyed live music, hunting, fishing, sport shooting, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Gary’s surviving family include his daughter, Judy Robbins (Isaiah) of Gorham, Kansas; son, John Anschutz (Becky) of Russell, Kansas; sisters, Dianna Wise of Belveu, Washington and Rebecca Keil of Galatia, Kansas; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren.

A Gathering Service will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2018 from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM at the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240. Military Rites will be conducted by the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240 Honor Guard. Memorials have been established with the ISIS Shrine and the Russell V.F.W. Post 6240. Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.

Anna Kingham

Anna Kingham died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018, at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kans., after a fall which broke her leg. She had been a resident of the Andbe Home in Norton, Kans. since Feb. 1, 2017.

Anna was born to Adam and Augusta (Hoffmann) Sauer on March 27, 1927, at the family farm in Trego County, six miles southwest of Ellis. She attended school in Ellis until her junior and senior years, and then attended a Christian boarding school, Enterprise Academy, Enterprise, Kans., graduating in 1947. After graduation, Anna moved to Boulder, Colo. and worked at the Boulder Hospital until her marriage to John Kingham on July 30, 1948, at Benkelman, Nebr.

John taught Anna how to drive cars, trucks, tractors, and she worked alongside her husband on the farm while raising her six children, Ivan, Joyce, Norman, Janis, Doris, and Donna. Anna had to learn how to cook and she became an excellent cook. Collecting recipes became a favorite hobby. Anna kept busy raising her large family and when they left home, she learned how to embroider, crochet, knit, quilt, and made all of her children and grandchildren blankets and quilts. She always kept her fingers busy in the evening with all of her handiwork. Later on, she became interested in genealogy, joined the genealogy society in Norton, and became quite proficient in finding records of the family. Anna was a member of the Norton Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Survivors include her sons, Ivan (Joyce) Kingham, Norton, KS., Norman (Marjorie) Kingham, Almena, KS, her daughters, Joyce (Ray) Royal of Sedgwick, KS., Janis Kingham of Lincoln, NE., Doris (Darryl) Watts of Wellington, KS., and Donna (Steve) Tanner of Norton. Also surviving are her 12 grandchildren: Connie Vifquain, Ted Kingham, Floyd Collins, Ryan Royal, Robin Schellenberg, Ashley Kingham, Julie Dumonceaux, Greg Watts, Eric Watts, Jason Tanner, Chris Tanner, and Tim Tanner. She was blessed to have 23 great grandchildren. Also surviving are sister-in-law Pat (Gus) Sauer of Hays, KS, sister-in-law Rena (Charles) Sinclair of Loveland, CO., sister-in-law Clara (Robert) Linza of Cedar City, UT, and brother-in-law Orson & Janette Kingham of Las Vegas, NV.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband John in 2013, a great grandchild Samuel Tanner, her brothers, Adam Sauer, Ernest & Abbie Sauer, Ludwig Sauer, Rudolph & Freda Sauer, Alfred & Anne Sauer and Gus Sauer, her sisters, Martha & Ed Armbrister, Marie & Bill Armbrister, Minnie & Albert Kingham, and Louise & Dale Powell. Also preceding her in death were her in-laws, Vera & Brig John, Robert Linza, Charles Sinclair, Katherine & Walter Donaldson, and Fred & Karolyn Kingham.

Frank Horesky Jr.

Frank Horesky Jr., son of Frank and Nellie (Cook) Horesky, was born July 13, 1933, in Norton County, Kansas, and passed away at his home in Norton, on September 10, 2018, at the of 85.

Frank grew up in Norton County and attended the Lenora and Norton schools graduating with the Norton Community High School class of 1949. Frank served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1955. On February 5, 1977, Frank and Joyce Aull were united in marriage in Hillsboro, Oregon. They made their home in Forest Grove, Oregon, until their retirement when they returned to Norton in 2013.

Survivors include: his loving wife, Joyce Horesky, of their home in Norton; three sons, Ronnie Dean, of Norton; David Lee, of Forest Grove; Steven, of Cornelius, Oregon; one daughter, Joane Marie, of Portland, Oregon; three brothers, Jim and Don Armstrong, both of Portland, and Edd Armstrong, of Hebo, Oregon; two sisters, Mikie Kramer, of Gaston, Oregon; Eddith Armstrong; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents.

Eva Lee Wheeler

Adda Eva Lee Wheeler, age 101, of Oakley, passed away on September 10, 2018, in Aurora, Colorado. Funeral arrangements are pending with Kennedy-Koster Funeral Home, Oakley.

Donna Anne Renz

Donna Anne Renz, 87, passed away, September 10, 2018, at the University of Kansas Health System-Great Bend Campus. She was born at LaCrosse, September 14, 1930, to Harold and Dora (Wilson) Murphy.

Having moved to Great Bend in 1973, Ann was a resident of Great Bend. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was a secretary for over 20 years at Fuller Brush. She loved to cook, was the #1 pet lover and always loved to spend time with her family. Ann had lots of friends and was always a friendly face to everybody she met.

Survivors include, long-time companion, Robert Vasquez; one son, Pat Renz and wife Gina of Ellsworth; one daughter, Suzy Kruckenberg and husband Jay of Mooreland, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Sammy Kruckenberg and wife Paige, Kenny Kruckenberg, Tell Renz and wife Mika, Ty and Trey Renz, and two great-grandchildren, Dace and Breilynn Renz.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Funeral Service will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 15, 2018, at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Great Bend, with Rev. Adam Wutka presiding.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be given to the Golden Belt Humane Society, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Earl Wayne Ummel

Earl Wayne Ummel, 72, passed away on September 9, 2018 outside of LaCrosse, Kansas. He was born on July 12, 1946 in Ransom, Kansas the son of Frederick and Letha Tillitson Ummel.

He was a Welder and Mechanic. He was in the United States Navy from 1966-1970. He worked at the Ness City Coop, Ransom Grade School, Deines Mowers, Missouri Pacific Railroad, AeroSwint, and Abercrombie as an oilfield production foreman and pumper. He was a Jack-of-All Trades, Master of None, Slave to All. He married Linda L. Bauer on Saturday, January 22nd, 1972, in Ransom.

Survivors include; Wife, Linda Ummel of Ransom; Sons, John Conrad Ummel of Ransom and Samuel Wayne Ummel of Utica; a brother, Billy Dean and wife, Alice Ummel of Ransom; a sister, Betty and husband, Gerald Briand of Ransom; and five grandchildren, Dray Carson, Tara Jo Walker, Tyler Jones, Koby Jones, and Brayden Ummel. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Benjamin Earl Ummel; and a daughter, Letha Jo Ummel.

Memorial service will be on Saturday, September 15, 2018, 10:30 A.M., at the Praise Fellowship Church, Ransom, Kansas. Inurnment will be in the Ransom Cemetery. There will be no viewing, but friends may sign the book on Friday, September 14, 2018 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home from 9:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M., and visit with the family from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Ransom VFW Post 7972 or the Brayden Ummel Education Fund.
