Edna M. Kreutzer

Edna M. Kreutzer, 93, died on Sunday, September 9, 2018, at Diversicare of Hutchinson. Edna was born on March 1, 1925 in Liebenthal, KS to Frank and Regina Dreher.

She married Donald Kreutzer on November 19, 1945 in Liebenthal. He died on January 27, 1981.

Preceding her in death are her parents; her spouse; two brothers, Larry and Victor Dreher; sister, Ferma Jean Dreher and a sister-in-law, Viola Dreher.

Survivors include her children; Linda (Tom) Rhoads, Americus, Gary of Haysville, Carol Sue (Greg) McCullough, Homer, Alaska, Jimmy (Kelly), Hutchinson; brothers, Elmer (Evelyn) Dreher, Hays and Kenny Dreher, La Crosse, KS; sister-in-law, Joann Dreher; 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and two great- great -grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 12th from 1:00 -5:00 p.m. at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church

The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, Sept. 13th at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross. Father Michael Kerschen will be officiating.

Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5905 W. 4th St, Hutchinson, KS.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials contributions may be made to Reno County Hospice in care of Hutchinson Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 300 E. 30th St., Hutchinson, KS 67502.

Danny L. Mainus

Danny L. Mainus, 64, died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2018, at Citizens Medical Center, Colby, Kansas. He was born January 29, 1954, in Tioga County, Pennsylvania and was a retired truck driver.

Mainus is survived by his sons Derek A. Mainus, Westminister, Colorado, Daniel L. Mainus, Littleton, Colorado; David A Mainus, Colby, Kansas; brothers Bruce Mainus, Galeton, Pennsylvania; Mike Mainus, Tuscon, Arizona; Harold Mainus, Franlinville, New York; Manley R. “Hemmy” Mainus Jr., Colby, Kansas; Wayne P. Mainus, Santa Fe, New Mexico; sister Lorraine Close, Galeton, Pennsylvania; and 3 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thu., Sept. 13, 2018, at Colby First Baptist Church, 615 W. Webster, Colby, Kansas. Cremation has been chosen. There will be no visitation.

Donations may be made in Mainus’ name in care of the Funeral Chapel.

Darrell L. Boggs

Darrell L. Boggs, age 82 of Hays, Kansas, died Wednesday, September 5, 2015, at his daughter’s home in Hays, Kansas.

He was born April 28, 1936, in Preston, Kansas to Arthur Joseph and Gladys May (Wonder) Boggs. He married Patricia (Schulte) in 1963.

He was a junior high/high school, science and math teacher. He grew up in Preston, Kansas and was a graduate of Preston High School. He attended Pratt Junior College and was a graduate of Emporia Sate College. He taught school in Pratt, Canton, Sun City and Poway, CA. He taught at Victoria High School for ten years then, when to Otis-Bison, Arkansas and Texas where he retired in May of 2000. While teaching at Victoria he also coached freshman football, drove the activity bus and school bus. He moved back the Hays area in 2000.

Survivors include one son, David W. Boggs, Topeka, KS; one daughter, Teresa M. Gross and husband, Scott J. Hays, KS; three grandchildren, C J Hathaway and husband, Joseph, Boston, MA; Sophia Rose Gross and Juliet Anne Gross both of Hays, KS.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one brother, Lauren Merle Boggs; two sisters, Iva Lu Harrison and Caroline Stalcup.

A private family service and inurnment will be at a later date.

The family suggests memorials to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, The Nature Conservancy or UNICFF in care of the mortuary.

Ricky Larry Gonzales

Ricky Larry Gonzales, age 32, of Holton, Kansas died Wednesday, September 5, 2018, at St. Joseph, Missouri. He was born September 27, 1985, in Hays, Kansas the son of Julian H. and Vicky (Werth) Gonzales.

He was a delivery driver for the Mission Critical Home Health Supplies of Topeka. He was an E-6 Staff Sergeant in the Kansas National Guard and enlisted in 2003 until 2018, then reenlisted this year. He served on two tours to Iraq and one to Hurricane Katrina. He grew up in Victoria and Russell. He was a 2004 graduate of Russell High School, a member of the Russell V.F.W. and attended St. Mary’s Queen of Angels Catholic Church. He enjoyed Texas Hold’em, the military and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his mother, Vicky Gonzales, Russell, KS; his extended family, Jaydyn McCorkle, Manhattan, KS; his companion, Melanie Belshe, Holton, KS; two brothers, Nathaniel Rollett and wife, Sarah, St. Joseph, MO; Ross Gonzales and fiancée, Harley Smith, Russell, KS; one sister, Randalynn Ehrlich and husband, Bryan, Russell, KS; his grandmothers, Mary Karlin, Dallas, TX; Doris Werth, Victoria, KS; two uncles, Mark Sepeda and wife Sue, Port Orchard WA; Austin Sepeda and wife, Kari, Peoria, AZ; two aunts, Rose Rodriguez, Dallas TX; Judy VonFeldt and husband, Dale, Olathe, KS; and many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his father; one uncle, Ricky Gonzales; one nephew, Brody Ehrlich; his grandparents, Al Karlin and Kenny Werth.

Services are at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 11, 2018, at St. Mary’s Queen of Angels Catholic Church, Russell, Kansas. Burial in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Russell, Kansas with military honors by the Russell V.F. W. and the Kansas National Guard.

A vigil service and rosary will be at 7:00 P.M. Monday, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary, 412 Main Street, Victoria, Kansas 67671.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary, Victoria, Kansas and from 9:00 to 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, at St. Mary’s Queen of Angels Catholic Church, Russell, Kansas.

Donna Mae (Debes) Brookhart

Donna Mae (Debes) Brookhart passed away Monday, September 3rd, at the age of 79 with family at her side. Donna was the middle child born to Susan (Lang) and Otto Debes on April 7, 1939 in Great Bend, KS. Donna’s childhood was spent growing up on the Debes farm 3 miles northwest of Ness City, KS and attending Sacred Heart School. She graduated from Ness City High School in 1957 and attended Fort Hays State University where she was a member of the Tri Sigma sorority. She married the love of her life, Lary Brookhart, on August 9, 1958 and they had three children, Kimberly (1960), Daniel (1962) and Steven (1963). Donna had a love of fashion, so she worked at The Village Shop in Hays, KS until her young family moved back to the family farm in Ness City in 1966. While raising her family in her hometown, Donna worked several years for The Style Shop and had a 25-year career as a secretary for Greeley Gas.

Donna and Lary had many family and friends that shared their love of camping and boating. On warm weekends, the group would gather to celebrate summer at Cedar Bluff Lake. Donna and Lary were excellent dancers and loved spinning around a dance floor whether it be at a family wedding, a local dance, or in their living room. Donna also enjoyed decorating, entertaining, crafting, celebrating holidays, and spending time with family. After Lary’s death on December 12, 1991, Donna met Bill Shamberger in 1996 and enjoyed nine years with him and his family. In October 2009, Donna moved to a retirement community, Silvercrest at Deer Creek in Overland Park, KS, to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She embraced her home and her life there.

Donna is preceded in death by her brother Aldon, infant sister Dianna, husband Lary, mother Sue, father Otto, and friend Bill. Left to miss her are her three children: Kim (Steve) Curtis of Grandview, MO; Dan (Brenda) Brookhart of Bradenton, FL; and Steve (Julie) Brookhart of Olathe, KS. Donna loved spending time with her six grandchildren: Mackenzie and Chase Curtis of Kansas City, MO; Alison and Logan Brookhart of Bradenton, FL; and Rachel and Riley Brookhart of Olathe, KS; and her great-grandson, Kade Henderson (Mackenzie). Donna is also missed by Lary’s sister, Karlynn Fabrizius Yanke (Wakeeney, KS) and her family, as well as Lang and Debes cousins, nieces and nephews; her lifelong friends from Ness City; and her new friends at Silvercrest.

Per Donna’s wishes, she has been cremated. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, September 20th, at 5:30 p.m. at Silvercrest at Deer Creek, 13060 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, KS. A Visitation will be held Friday, September 21st, 6 to 8 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 207 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, Ness City, KS. A Catholic mass will be held Saturday, September 22nd, 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 510 South School Street, Ness City, KS, followed by burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sacred Heart School, Ness City, KS.

Richard A. McDaniel

Richard A. McDaniel, age 62, passed away on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at the KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. He was born on March 12, 1956 in Marshall, Texas, the son of Robert A. & Irma L. Simpson McDaniel. A lifetime resident of Scott City, Kansas, he was a farmer for Hoeme Farms.

He was a member of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his One Son – Kurtis & Tamara McDaniel of Ellsworth, Kansas, Mother – Irma L. McDaniel of Scott City, Kansas, Three Brothers – Larry & Kathy McDaniel of Sharon Springs, Kansas, Ross McDaniel & Kelly McCarty of Grand Junction, Colorado, Thomas & Pam McDaniel of Scott City, Kansas and One Sister – Lois & Cliff Magie of Salina, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his Father – Robert A. McDaniel.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at the First Baptist Church of Scott City, Kansas with Pastor Don Williams presiding.

Memorials In Lieu of Flowers can be made to the Richard McDaniel Memorial Fund in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home in Scott City, Kansas.

Interment will be in the Scott County Cemetery in Scott City, Kansas.

Larry Schertz

Larry Schertz, 76, died Thursday, September 6, 2018, in Oakley, Kansas. He was born December 15, 1942.

Arrangements are pending with Baalmann Mortuary, 304 E. 8th St., Oakley, and officiant Pastor Bob Kelly.

O.D. Mote

Longtime Weskan, Kansas, resident O.D. Mote, 82, passed away on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at the Wallace County Community Care Center in Sharon Springs.

O.D. was born March 22, 1936 in Vernon, Texas to Oris Dee Mote and Pearl Cooper Mote Cline. He was the youngest of four children.

When O.D. was a child, the family moved to Weskan, Kansas, where he attended school and graduated from Weskan High School in 1955. O.D. served in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1959. On May 26, 1957, O.D. married Janice Lynn Collins in Weskan. To this union, four children, Kelly, Tracy, Stephanie and Sandy were born.

O.D. worked most of his life as a famer and later as an over the road truck driver. He enjoyed camping, boating, casinos, guns, knives and reloading gun shells.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife Janice and a granddaughter Darcy Miller.

He is survived by his children; Kelly (Randy) Tipton of Weskan, KS, Tracy (JoAnn) Mote of Weskan, KS, Stephanie Rinehart and Ruben Orozco of Sharon Springs, KS, and Sandy (Sean) Miller of Kanorado, KS. He is also survived by brother Thamer Mote of Weskan, KS, sister Hazel (Verdell) Young of Tribune, KS and brother Wallace (Doris) Mote of Sharon Springs, as well as 13 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Patricia Marie Koch

Patricia Marie Koch, 87, passed away August 24, 2018, at Cherry Village Nursing Home, Great Bend. She was born March 18, 1931, in Lucas to James and Anna (Stodola) Aksamit. She married John Koch, April 4, 1954, in Lucas. He died May 20, 1975.

Patricia worked at an orphanage in Denver and as an in home caregiver for many years. She also had worked at the K18 Café and Lucas Nursing Home for many years. She was a member of the Cornerstone Fellowship in Great Bend and loved to garden.

Survivors include, two daughters, Patsy Hiss and husband Bob of Great Bend and Susan Hayes and husband Allen of Reno, Nevada; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Carrol Aksamit of Sausalito, California and Richard Aksamit of Russellville, Arkansas and one sister, Camilla Smith of Alexandria, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Leonard and Allan Aksamit; and four sisters, Anna Meitler, Joan Conklin, Agnes DeForest and Dorothy Tomkins.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 2, 2018, at the First Christian Church, Great Bend, with Rev. Joshua Leu presiding. Inurnment will be in the Lucas Cemetery, Lucas. Memorials are suggested to be made In Lieu of Flowers to the First Christian Church Outreach Fund, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Thomas J. ‘Tom’ Arnhold

Thomas J. “Tom” Arnhold, 71, of Russell, Kansas, died on Tuesday, September 04, 2018, at his home in Russell.

Tom was born on June 08, 1947, in Hays, Kansas, the son of Fred J. and Eileen (Bieker) Arnhold. Tom grew up in Hays, Kansas, and graduated from Hays High School. He worked in the oil field industry and later in life as a truck driver. He enjoyed University of Oklahoma football and spending time with his family.

Surviving family include son Scott Arnhold of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and daughter Sheri Arnhold of Woodward, Oklahoma; brothers Fred Arnhold (Eileen) of Russell, Kansas, Rick Arnhold (Marlene) of Hays, Kansas, Dave Arnhold (Renee) of Monroe, North Carolina, Tim Arnhold (Jane) Loveland, Colorado, Steve Arnhold and companion Christy Ratliff of Hays, Kansas and Jeff Arnhold (Amy) of Andover, Kansas; sisters Marilynn Norris (Joe) of Andover, Kansas, Audrey Montgomery (Richard) of Wichita, Kansas and Liz Arnhold and companion Tim Flack of Nevada, Iowa; 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A private family celebration of Tom’s life will be held at a later date. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the memorial service arrangements.

Dr. Zoran Stevanov

Dr. Zoran Stevanov, 73, Hays, died Tuesday, September 4, 2018 in Albuquerque, New Mexico during a scuba diving trip.

He was born in Novi Sad, Yugoslavia on June 25, 1945. He was married to his lovely wife, Teodora, for 52 years.

Zoran taught at Emporia State University for three years before coming to Fort Hays State University where he had been a professor of arts since 1973. He earned a B.A. Degree from Florida Atlantic University in 1968, and M.F.A. Degree from Wichita State University in 1970, and a Ph.D. Degree in Education from the University of Kansas in 1982. He developed the B.F.A. and M.F.A. photography degrees for FSHU as well as an Art History course for SIAS international. His work has been included in exhibitions at the Lynn Kottler Gallery in New York, the Joslin Museum in Omaha, Monroe Art Museum in Louisiana, and the Paula Insel International Gallery in Puerto Rico. Zoran enjoyed scuba diving, fencing, and tennis.

Survivors include his wife, Teodora, three children; Donald, Adriane, and Max and wife Jennifer, six grandchildren; Tyler, Alexis, Aleksandar, Solidad, Emily, and Olivia, and three great-grandchildren; Oliver, Lily, and Elliott Nova.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine Street, Hays, with Fr. Joshua Lollar presiding. Burial will follow in the Mt. Allen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 6:30 on Friday and 12:00 noon until service time on Saturday, all at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the St. Nicholas Orthodox Christian Church in Lawrence or the Humane Society of the High Plains, in care of the funeral home. Condolences and memories of Zoran may be shared with the family at www.haysmemorial.com.

Teressa G. Bollinger

Teressa G. Bollinger, age 56, passed away at the Wichita County Health Center in Leoti, Kansas on Wednesday, September 5, 2018.

She was born on December 1, 1961 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, the daughter of Vernon Anderson & Verda Lucille Kirk Woodward. A resident of Marienthal, Kansas for 6 years, she was a Medical Assistant in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma for several years.

Survivors Include her One Daughter – Jodi & Donnie Chaffin of Elkhart, Kansas, One Son – Jason & Gina Woodward of Hendersonville, Tennessee, Five Sisters – Laverna Parkins of Liberal, Kansas, Bernice Helwig of Hooker, Oklahoma, Esther Smith of Hooker, Oklahoma, Carolyn & Rodney Sandmeier of Marienthal, Kansas, Diane Ells of Wagoner, Oklahoma, Two Brothers – Uryeal & Lisa Woodward of South Carolina, Ronald Woodward of Wagoner, Oklahoma, Six Grandchildren, One Great Grandchild and Numerous Nieces & Nephews.

She was preceded in death by her Parents, Four Brothers and 8 Nieces & Nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at a later date and time.

Phyllis Carolyn Weidenhaft

Phyllis Carolyn Weidenhaft was born on September 27, 1927 in Glen Elder, Kansas, the daughter of Archie “Roy” and Daisy McCrory Taylor. She died Monday, September 3, 2018 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas at the age of 90 years, 11 months, and 7 days.

Phyllis grew up and attended schools in the Glen Elder area before graduating in 1945. She taught in the Excelsior Country School after attending summer school at Kansas State College in Manhattan, where she received her Normal Teacher Training. She later worked for 25 years as a central service technician at the Mitchell County Hospital.

On November 10, 1946, she was united in marriage with her high school classmate Billy Weidenhaft at the Beloit Methodist parsonage. The family lived on the family farm until moving into Glen Elder in 1962. Four sons were born to this union – Larry, Joe, Brad, and Mike. They were privileged to spend 47 years of marriage together until his death in 1994.

Phyllis was a member of the Glen Elder Christian Church and the Ladies Aid.

In addition to her husband Billy, she was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Larry; great granddaughter, Camie Ullom; brothers, Gail, Bob, and Kenneth; and sisters, Lila and Martha.

Phyllis is survived by three sons, Joe and wife Pat of Stockton, Brad and significant other Eve of Glen Elder, and Mike and wife Marsha of Beloit; 10 grandchildren, Brandon Weidenhaft and wife Julie of Hays, Jana Griffin and husband Ryan of Stockton, Kelli Cockrell and husband Brian of Stockton, Lori Firebaugh and husband Daniel of Glen Elder, Amber Ullom of Beloit, Levi Weidenhaft of Glen Elder, Andrea Eberle and husband Aaron of Glen Elder, Chase Weidenhaft of Lincoln, KS, Tanner Weidenhaft and wife Tegan of Beloit, and Sarabella Weidenhaft of Beloit; 15 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Friday, September 7 at the Glen Elder Christian Church. Visitation will be from 1-8 PM with family present from 6-7 PM Thursday at the Roberts Family Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the Glen Elder Christian Church.
