Br. Jeremiah Tuttle

Br. Jeremiah Tuttle, O.S.B., 67, of Conception Abbey passed away on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at St. Stephen’s Infirmary at Conception, Missouri.

Br. Jeremiah was born on March 27, 1951 in WaKeeney, Kansas, to the late Delbert and Martha (Carlson) Tuttle. He was a graduate of Quinter High School and Barton County Community College in Great Bend.

He professed as a monk on August 15, 1997. His assignments at Conception Abbey were sales and marketing for the Printery House and Basilica sacristan.

Br. Jeremiah is survived by his monastic community; two brothers, Scott Tuttle, Hays, Kansas and J. Sheldon Tuttle, Kansas City, Missouri; one sister, Melissa Riegal of Hayes, Kansas and other family members.

Visitation will be held from 6:00pm Monday, September 10th with Vespers of the Dead at 7:15pm at The Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, Conception, Missouri.

Mass of Christian Burial 11:30am Tuesday, September 11th at The Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, with burial following at St. Columba Cemetery, Conception, Missouri. Arrangements Price Funeral Home, Maryville, Missouri.

Lester A. ‘Booger’ Witthuhn

Lester A. “Booger” Witthuhn, age 92, of Hays, Kansas died Wednesday, September 5, 2018, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.

He was born February 24, 1926, in Bazine, Kansas, to Richard William and Amanda (Michel) Witthuhn. He married Betty (Houser) at Bazine, Kansas, in 1945. She preceded him in death on March 8, 1979. He married Elaine Elizabeth (Wnek)-Wilson at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on February 20, 1981.

He was owner of Booger’s Bits since 1983 and was still working with his customers until his death. He was a salesman for Smith Tool Company of Oklahoma City, for over 40 years until he retired in 1983 and moved to Hays, Kansas. He and his wife were co-owners with his brother and sister-in-law of Hen House Ceramics in Hays. He was a salesman for the Mountain Man Fruit and Nut Company for about 10 years.

Lester grew up in Bazine, Kansas and was a 1942 graduate of Bazine High School. He was a veteran of the US Navy. He lived in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and McCook, Nebraska. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and V.F.W. Post No. 9076 both of Hays, Kansas. He enjoyed bingo, the Kansas City Royals, football and golfing.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine E. Witthuhn, of the home; three sons, Lester “Butch” Witthuhn and wife, Mary, Hutchinson, KS; Tim Wilson and wife, Wendi, Ft. Myers, FL; Davis Wilson, Acworth, GA; four daughters, LuAnn Gore and husband, Steve, Palmyra, PA; Louise Roy and husband, Randy, Abilene, TX; Debbie Boehler and husband, Steve, Oklahoma City, OK; Jackie Fitz (Brian), Gibsonton, FL; three sisters-in-law, Doris Witthuhn, Hays, KS; Pat Cmunt, Stickney, IL; Carolyn Houser, Newcastle, OK; 18 grandchildren, Jeff Haas, Chris Haas (Ursula), Blue Haas, Steve Gore Jr. (Kelly), Staci Albert (Jordan), Andrew Roy (Julissa), Adrian Roy, Dessiree Mundell (Chris), Daniel Witthuhn (Rebecca), Brayden Witthuhn, Matt Boehler (Jessica), Alexandra Wilson, Zachary Wilson (Shannon), Chris Wilson (Julie), Tim Wilson, Julia Bohlander (Austin), Casey Fitz, Hayley Goodwin; 21 great grandchildren with one on the way; and many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; daughter, Patsy and brother, Bill.

Services are at 10:00 A.M. Monday, September 10, 2018, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 12th and Fort, Hays, Kansas. Burial will be at the Bazine Cemetery, Bazine, Kansas.

A scripture service and rosary will be at 7:00 P.M. Sunday, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22nd Street, Hays, Kansas 67601.

Visitation is from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Sunday and from 9:00 to 9:45 A.M. Monday, all at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays.

Dr. Zoran Stevanov

Dr. Zoran Stevanov, 73, Hays, died Tuesday, September 4, 2018, at the Lovelace Medical Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Rebecca Lea Brakey

Rebecca Lea Brakey, 64, died Sunday, September 2, 2018 at the Wichita County Health Center in Leoti, Kansas.

She was born March 7, 1953 in Garden City, Kansas the daughter of Bernard “Bud” & Beverly (Lile) Brakey.

Rebecca was a lifetime resident of Leoti where she attended Leoti schools. In 1971, she married Wayne Bjurstrom in Leoti, Kansas. A homemaker, Rebecca worked for 34 years as office manager for Wheatland Electric. She enjoyed golfing and spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include a son Scott & wife (Jenny) Bjurstrom of Garden City; her mother Beverly Brakey of Garden City; and 3 Grandchildren Addyson, Kaya, & Grant. Rebecca is preceded in death by her father; a brother Gregg Brakey; and a sister Debbie Sivils.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at the Christ Covenant Church in Leoti, Kansas with Rev. Scott Rosen officiating. A private family interment will take place at a later date at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials given to the Leoti EMTs in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.

Thomas J. ‘Tom’ Arnhold

Thomas J. “Tom” Arnhold, 71, of Russell, Kansas, died on Tuesday, September 4, 2018, at his home in Russell.

Gary Eugene Anschutz, 78, of Galatia, Kansas, died on Wednesday, September 5, 2018, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.

Gerald R. Hardten

Gerald R. Hardten, 73, passed away September 4, 2018, at Country Living, Ellinwood, Kansas. He was born November 5, 1944, in his parents’ home in Claflin, the son of Fred and Naomi (Nagel) Hardten. A lifetime area resident he graduated Claflin High School in 1962. He attended Fort Hays State College and joined the National Guard attending officer’s training school and receiving the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He was proud of his time in the National Guard, serving nine years.

He married Janice “Jan” Weber in May 14, 1966, in Claflin. She survives.

Gerald worked alongside his dad at Hardten Service Station, owned by his dad, for many years. After his dad passed Gerald owned and operated the station until he retired in 2007.

Gerald enjoyed reading, especially history, playing board games and playing cards with his wife and son on days off.

Survivors include; his wife of 52 years, Janice “Jan” Hardten of the home; son, Gerald “Jerry” Fred Hardten of Great Bend, sister-in-law, Carol Hardten of Olathe, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Reta June (Hardten) Plowman, brother, Ronald David Hardten, father and mother-in-law, John J. Moran, Jr. and Cassilda D. (Schartz) Moran, father-in-law, Hurley R. Weber.

He leaves behind two precious little dogs, Ollie and Stanly.

Having dementia for several years he was cared for at home, where he wanted to be, by his loving wife, family and good friends until the last week of his life. I will truly miss you Gerald. God Bless you my husband and now you can rest in peace.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, September 8, 2018, at Claflin Cemetery, with Pastor Diana Webster presiding. Military honors will be conducted by the Kansas Army National Guard Honor Guard.

Friends may call 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 pm at the funeral home. Casket will be closed.

Rose Neuburger

Rose Neuburger, 95, formerly, of Hays, died Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Regency Care Center at Monroe in Monroe, Washington.

She was born August 30, 1923 in Ogallah to Ambrose and Eugenia (Baumgartner) Weber.

She married Norbert Neuburger on July 7, 1943, in Jacksonville, Florida. They were owners of Neuburger’s Bakery. While living in Hays she was very active in the Adoration Chapel.

Survivors include two sons; Gary and wife Judy, Cibolo, TX, Pat and wife Kathy, Las Vegas, NV and a daughter; Cindy Lang and husband David, Monroe, WA, 9 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband; 2 sisters, Mary and Regina; one brother, Robert and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 201 W. 13th St., Hays, KS 67601. Burial will follow at the St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 7, 2018 from 5-7:00 P.M. and Saturday, from 9-9:30 A.M., both being held at Brock’s-Keithley Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 2509 Vine St., Hays.

A Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Adorers Rosary will be recited at 5:00 P.M. with a parish vigil service at 5:30 P.M., both at the funeral home on Friday.

Memorials are suggested to Holy Family Elementary School and can mailed or left with the funeral home.

Melody Lynn Morgan

Melody Lynn Morgan, 67, passed away on September 1, 2018 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas. She was born on December 9, 1950 in Hays, Kansas the daughter of Don and Mary (Fuller) Ellis.

She was a homemaker. She married Frank Ervin Morgan on Saturday, August 8th, 1970, in Ogallah, Kansas. He preceded her in death on June 21, 2016.

Survivors include three sons, Scott Morgan, Phillip Morgan, and Walter Morgan all of Ness City; two sisters, Mary Kay Kauffman – Garden City; Leah Crowley – Stockton; and three grandchildren, Craig, Mia, and Colten Morgan; a very special niece that was like a daughter to her, Patty Barfield – Alton and three very special great nieces, Saralyn, Kimber, and Skylar, that called her grandma.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; two brothers, Donald and Kenneth Ellis, and a sister Barbara Hoffman.

Funeral service and inurnment will be on Friday, September 14, 2018, 11:00 A.M., at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery, WaKeeney.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Veterans Memorial and Park, Ness City or the Melody Morgan Funeral Fund.
