Mike Paul Kramer

Mike Paul Kramer, son of Wilfred & Virginia (Haddock) Kramer, was born October 7, 1967 in Cozad, Nebraska and passed away July 14, 2018 at his home in Phillipsburg, Kansas at the age of 50.

During his lifetime, Mike never let his disability stop him from enjoying life. In elementary school, he was a wrestler and enjoyed racing motorcycles. He graduated from Lexington High School in Lexington, NE then continued his education at Wayne State College, Hastings Community College, and then graduated from Kearney State College with a Bachelor’s Degree.

Mike had a long career working full-time for the Kansas Department for Children & Families (formerly SRS), and for about 25 years he drove to Kearney, NE every Saturday to work with his Dad at the gun shop.

In his spare time he loved fishing, hunting, cooking and traveling with his many close friends.

Survivors include his parents, Willie & Virginia Kramer of Kearney, NE; his brothers, Ted & wife, Jodene, of Ogallala, NE and Larry & wife, Tereasa, of Kearney, NE; four nephews: Justin, Dustin, Hunter and Waylon, and one niece, Hannah.

Cremation was planned. A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 18th, 2018 in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, 1115 2nd Street, Phillipsburg, KS 67661, with Pastor Dave Hutson officiating.

Friends may sign the book from noon until 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 17th, at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Norma Lucille (Weber) Chittenden

Norma Lucille (Weber) Chittenden, 90, Hays, died Sunday, July 15, 2018 at her son’s home surrounded by family.

She was born February 12, 1928 in Hays the daughter of John and Mae (Kerns) Weber. She was a graduate of Hays High School and on December 22, 1955 she was united in marriage to John R. “Jack” Chittenden in Hays. She worked at Hays Ford and in the insurance business with Kansas Claims and was also a title clerk for nearly 30 years at Auto World in Hays, retiring at the age of 87. She was an avid bowler, participating in many local, state, and national tournaments, a member and officer of numerous bowling associations, and was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and a past member of the Hays First United Methodist Church.

She enjoyed taking care of her chickens, needlepoint, crocheting, cross stitching, knitting, traveling, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was very hard working and independent and was truly loved by so many family and friends.

Survivors include a son; John R. Chittenden II and wife Michelle of Hays, grandchildren; John R. Chittenden III of Hays and Gabrielle Chittenden of Hays.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jack, a brother David Weber, and an infant sibling.

Private family services will be at a later date and inurnment will take place at Mt. Allen Cemetery in Hays. Memorials are suggested to Ellis County 4-H, in care of the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine Street, Hays. Garry W. Endsley

Garry W. Endsley passed away Sunday, July 15, 2018, at the Salina Regional Health Center at the age of 60. He was born in Kansas City, MO on April 12, 1958 to William Endsley and Karole Jean (Simmons) Hancock. On August 7, 1999 he married Tammy Whitmer at the Wilson United Methodist Church.

Garry attended school in Jewell, Kansas and graduated from Jewell High School with the class of 1976. He worked various jobs working as a lineman, was an excellent carpenter, and a computer technician. At the time of his death he was working as the head of the IT department as a Technology Support Consultant III for the Ellsworth Correctional Facility where he had been for the last 17 years. Garry was a former ECT SORT member where he was an observer sniper, chemical munitions member, and was on the honor guard. He is a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Ellsworth.

Garry had a green thumb and always had a big garden. He loved camping, hunting, golfing, and playing ball with his kids. But mostly, he loved spending time with his family. His kids were everything to him. Many memories were made singing and dancing in the living room with his family.

Garry is survived by his wife Tammy Endsley of Wilson; sons Ancil and Max Endsley of Wilson, Michael Endsley and wife Jessica of Madison, WI, and Phillip Endsley and Brian of Colby; daughter Nisha Trevino and husband Shane of Stockton; mother and step-father Karole and Dave Hancock of Birch Tree, MO; brothers Ronnie Endsley and wife Deborah of Nebraska, Gene Hancock of Henderson, KY, Mark Hancock of Henderson, KY, Gary Hancock and wife Fannie of Henderson, KY; sisters Janita Mooney and husband Val of Mountain View, MO, Kelly Walton and husband Richard of Birch Tree, MO, Donna Crouch and husband Kenny of Henderson, KY, and Joda Southard and husband Tim of Cordon, KY; 3 grandchildren Zane, Zeke, and Josie; and 3 adopted grandchildren Mya, Quintin, and Aaliyah.

He is preceded in death by his beloved grandparents Ancil and Dorothy Endsley who played such a big role in his life; and his father.

Garry was greatly loved and will be missed because he was a man of value, character, and integrity who served with a giving heart and loved with an even greater heart. We celebrate the life that he lived and we mourn the years that we will be denied. He will live forever in the hearts of those who knew him best, for they were greatly loved.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 19, 2018, at 10:00 A.M. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Ellsworth. Visitation will be Wednesday, 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. with the family receiving friends 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home in Wilson. Donna Jo Warhurst

Donna Jo was born on December 14, 1949, in Auburn, NE. During her freshman year in high school she moved to Oakley, KS and began living with Dr. James and Paula Marchbanks. She graduated from Oakley High School in 1967, attended Colby Community College, and then attended Cosmetology School in Salina, KS where she met the love her life, Robert “Bob” Warhurst. They were married on January 5, 1969 and would be celebrating their 50th anniversary this coming January. Donna Jo worked at the Oakley Police Department for 32 years and retired in 2007 celebrating her retirement on her birthday.

Donna Jo is survived by her loving husband Bob, her daughter Kathy Boeger, husband Chris and granddaughters Ashley Boeger and Devan Savner (Kyle), and daughter Heather Wilson, husband Paul and grandchildren Dodge, Dixie, and Shelby Ellegood and Audrey Wilson, mother Paula Marchbanks, her very special and close sister Rhonda Warhurst and brother-in-law Frank, siblings Carol Weiser (Randy), Joseph Vontz (Eleanor), Kathy Redger (Dale), Leslie Marchbanks, Ronald Marchbanks (Valerie), and Charles Marchbanks (Paula) along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by father Dr. James Marchbanks, very best friend Betty Webber, and brothers Roger Maurer and Kenny Ray Maurer.

The family has chosen cremation. Graveside services will be 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at Prairie Mound Cemetery in Solomon. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to the Gove County Medical Center. Memorials may be dropped off or mailed to Carlson-Becker Funeral Home, P.O. Vivian Ann (Long) Herrmann

Vivian Ann (Long) Herrmann was born December 21, 1937 in her grandparents’ home in Union Township, Sheridan County, Kansas to John and Ura (Launchbaugh) Long. She attended one-room school in Waverly, Kansas and then earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Education from Emporia State University.

She married her husband of 47 years, John Herrmann, on December 27, 1958. After her graduation, John and Vivian moved to California where she taught middle-school Home Economics until the birth of their son. Vivian then focused on raising her family and added a daughter. Once her children entered high school, Vivian returned to work as a Quality Assurance Specialist for Rockwell International, working on the B1A and B1B Bombers. She returned to college and earned her Master’s degree in Business Management.

When Vivian retired in 1994, she and John returned to the family acreage in Sheridan County where they built their dream home. Vivian was an active and wholehearted member of the McGraw Methodist church, serving as pianist and treasurer for more than 20 years. Throughout her life she enjoyed sewing and crafting and always had a book of anacrostic puzzles in the works. She delighted in her flower garden, koi pond and animal friends of all kinds but without question, her greatest joy was her grandchildren.

Vivian passed away on July 9, 2018 in Hays, KS at the age of 80. She was preceded in death by her brother, Vernon Long, her husband, John, and her son David Herrmann. She is survived by her daughter, Kelly Smith, and her husband Adam, and grandchildren, Kyle Broxson of Yuba City, CA, Noah, Levi, and Emily Smith of Hays, KS; her daughter-in-law, Diane Herrmann, and granddaughter Sara of Oketo, KS; and nieces Jeanne Brooks and Joanne Long and nephews Jeff Long, Joe Long, and Jim Long.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at McGraw United Methodist Church, with burial following in the Hoxie Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 16, 2018 at the funeral home. Arrangements were made by the Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home.

Philip Beam, age 86, of WaKeeney, passed away, Sunday, July 15, 2018 at Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital, WaKeeney.

Melva Marie Kaufman Boxberger

Melva Marie Kaufman Boxberger, age 92, died Friday, July 13, 2018. She was born on the family farm, southwest of Wilson in Russell County, Kansas to Carl & Minnie (Borrell) Heinze on April 4, 1926 during a snow storm on Easter Sunday. She was brought to the house of God on May 2, 1926 for baptism at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wilson. Her sponsors were Marie Heinze & Edwin Borrell. She remained a faithful member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wilson. She was confirmed on May 29, 1939 by her uncle, The Reverend William J. Lind at Immanuel Church in Wilson.

On September 23, 1944 she was united in marriage to Lloyd K. Kaufman at Immanuel Church in Wilson. They made their home on the farm 5 miles south of Bunker Hill until 1995 when she moved to Wilson after the death of her husband on July 16, 1995. She maintained the family home and was involved in the many activities of a farm life. Four daughters were born to this union, Sharilyn Joleen, Carla June, LeAnne Fay and Brenda Gayle. On April 7, 2000 she was united in marriage to Frederick Boxberger at the Lutheran Church in Wilson. They lived on the Boxberger family farm. In November 2012, Fred & Melva moved to the assisted living in Russell. In July 2017, due to her failing health, she moved to Main Street Manor at the Russell Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her parents Carl & Minnie Heinze, sister Elvera Goad, husbands Lloyd Kaufman and Frederick Boxberger, and son-in-laws Melvin Frimmel and Tom Soukup.

She is survived by four daughters Sharilyn (Donnie) Wilhelm, Carla Soukup, LeAnne (Frank) Hlaus, & Brenda (Wes) Buehler, grandchildren Craig (Diane) Frimmel, Troy (Stacey) Frimmel, Heather (Chadd) Stevenson, & Justin (Katlyn) Hlaus, great-grandchildren Cole Frimmel, Trenton (Diana) Frimmel, Jacob & Kendall Hlaus, & Hadley Paige Stevenson, & 4 step great-grandchildren Adam, Rosemary, Elizabeth & Carolyn, great-great grandchild Paxton Frimmel & 3 step great-great grandchildren Zoe, Haydon & Lynkon, sister Ellen Hanzlicek and several nieces & nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 4:00pm on Monday, July 16, 2018 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wilson. Interment will follow in the Wilson City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00pm on Sunday at the funeral home in Wilson with family receiving friends from 6:00-8:00pm. Prayer Vigil will be Sunday at 7:00pm at the funeral home.

Mike P. Kramer

Phillipsburg resident Mike P. Kramer passed away Saturday, July 14, 2018 at his home at the age of 50 years.

Joyce Price

Joyce Price, age 91, died peacefully on July 11, 2018, at 3:20 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. She was born Joyce Thielbar in Danbury, Nebraska, on September 7, 1926.

After graduating from Danbury High School, Joyce met the love of her life, Virgil Price, at a local dance. The two were married when she was 19 years old on May 19, 1946, and from there they enjoyed 66 years of loving marriage.

Joyce attended Kearney State Teacher’s College, and she taught for three years in Red Willow County, Nebraska; substitute teaching thereafter. She lived and worked with Virgil on their farm in the Lyle community for 50+ years. Joyce loved to cook – she always put together a great spread, no matter how many people might be sitting at the table – and she especially loved to bake cookies with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed sewing, cross stitch, and embroidery. Some of her most beautiful artwork was done in the garden – she lovingly cultivated beautiful, lush flowers and plants.

Gentle and kind, Joyce was a devoted friend who was always there to answer the call for help from friends and family. She enjoyed playing 11-Point Pitch and Mexican Train Dominoes. She was a member of the Norcatur United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Sunflower EHU, Rebekah Lodge, Royal Neighbors Lodge, Liberty Star Club, and she was a volunteer for the Norcatur News Sheet. In her lifetime, she had visited both Canada and Mexico.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil; sister, Iris Smith; and brothers Melvin and Max Thielbar.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Jurey and her husband, Keith; her son, Bob Price and his wife, Lea; her grandchildren: Richard Jurey, Jason Jurey and his wife, Kathy, and Kate Price; and her great-grandchildren: Connor and MacKinzey Jurey.

Gliberto Retamoza

Gliberto Retamoza, born June 29, 1961, died July 12, 2018, in Oakley, Kansas.

Services will be held Friday, July 13 at 2 p.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 625 N. Freeman Ave., Oakley.

Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, East 8th St. Oakley.

Allan Julius Busch Jr.

Allan Julius Busch Jr., age 75, of Hays, Kansas, died Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at Via Christi Village Care Center in Hays, Kansas.

He was born November 24,1942, in Quincy, Illinois, to Allan Julius and Etta Mae (Harwood) Busch Sr. He married Connie Lea (Hutchinson) on July 4, 1974, at WaKeeney, Kansas.

He was a Professor of History at Fort Hays State University from 1972 until he retired in 2005. He served as Chairman of the Department of History from 1986 to 1994. He received his B. A. Degree at Southern Illinois University, his M. A. Degree at the University of Omaha and his Ph.D. Degree at the University of Kansas.

He grew up in Quincy, Illinois, he was an Eagle Scout, he graduated from Quincy High School and moved to Hays in 1972. He enjoyed golf and stamp collecting.

Survivors include his wife, Connie Busch, of the home; one son, Roberto Busch, Hays, KS; one grandson and one granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Private services and inurnment will be held at a later date.

The family suggests memorial to the Department of History at Fort Hays State University in care of Fort Hays State University Foundation, P.O. Box 1060, Hays, Kansas 67601.

Samuel Clayton Shoaff, 89, died July 12, 2018, at Cherry Village Nursing Home, Great Bend, Kansas.
