Deborah Ann (Detmer) Debes

Deborah Ann (Detmer) Debes, age 63, from Hays, Kansas died Tuesday, September 24, 2019, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.

She was born May 14, 1956, in Great Bend, Kansas to Andrew L. and Marjorie M. (Ziegler) Detmer. She married Kenneth R. Debes on October 6, 1979, in Great Bend, Kansas.

She was an accounting specialist at Brungart-Hower-Ward-Elliott & Pfeifer, LC for 21 years and retired in 2018. She grew up in Great Bend, and a was a 1974 graduate of Great Bend High School, attended Barton County Community College and Fort Hays State University. Deborah lived in Great Bend, Ellinwood, and Lincoln before moving to Hays in 1993. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays.

She enjoyed crocheting blankets and flower gardening.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Debes, of the home; one son, Stephen Debes, and wife, Rose, Hoisington, KS; two daughters, Anna Debes, Hays, KS; Rachel Debes and husband, Jarod Hart, Shawnee, KS; two sisters, Vicki Haselhorst and husband, Dan, Great Bend, KS; Linda Ille and husband, Mark, Great Bend, KS; four grandchildren, Peter Debes, Andrew Debes, Charles Hart and Isaac Hart.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Services will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday, September 27, 2019, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 18 & Vine, Hays, Kansas. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays, Kansas.

Visitation is from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, at Cline-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, and from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. Friday, at the Church. Family suggests memorials to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church or Capuchin Province of Mid-America.

Jerry Scott Thomsen

Jerry Scott Thomsen of Clay Center passed away September 24, 2019 in Clay Center. He was born July 10, 1931 in Oberlin, Kansas, the son of Clarice (Scott) Thomsen and Andy J. Thomsen D.D.S. He graduated from Decatur County High School with the class of 1949 and from Kansas State University. After serving in the United States Air Force as a navigator, he attended and graduated from University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Dentistry.

He practiced general dentistry in Clay Center, Kansas from 1962-1995. After retirement, he returned to Kansas State, earning a bachelor’s degree in fine arts, focusing on ceramics. His family and friends benefited from this passion.

Jerry enjoyed traveling the world, often with the Roads Scholar. The program often included having dinner with local residents. He would take a piece of his pottery in his duffel bag as a hostess gift.

Sailing the area lakes or the Caribbean was also a passion; starting with a Sailfish and working up to a Cal 27. Later with his crew of special lady, Claire Bowers, Jean and Jack Mohler and Bob and Amy Dodson, he frequently set sails in the British Virgin Islands.

He lived life to the fullest.

He is survived by his sister, Amy Dodson and husband, Bob, Abilene, Kansas; niece, Lesley Dodson Shuler (Alan), Salina, Kansas; nephew, Andrew Dodson, Lees Summit, Missouri; grandnieces: Genna Shuler Bickford (Austen), Blair Shuler Erb (Wyatt), Abbey Dodson, Aeriel Dodson Feeback (Brooks), all of Johnson County, Kansas and great grandnephews: Harrison Erb and Jack Bickford.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside services and internment will be at the Oberlin City Cemetery, Saturday, September 24, 2019 at 3:00 pm. Pamela S. Babcock

Pamela S. Babcock, age 61, passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.

She was born on September 15, 1958 in Tribune, Kansas, the daughter of Glen A. and Dessa Faye Crittenden Doty. A resident of Scott City, Kansas since 2000 moving from Leoti, Kansas where she lived for over 20 years. Pam worked for several newspapers doing printing and for JF Beaver Advertising in Scott City, Kansas.

In 1976 she graduated from Greeley County High School in Tribune, Kansas and the in 1978 she graduated from Goodland Community College.

Survivors include her Husband – Phil Yost of Scott City, Kansas, One Step Son – Cody Yost of Scott City, Kansas, One Brother – Gary Doty of Nickerson, Kansas, Two Sisters – Dessa Woods of Tribune, Kansas, Glenna Fogo of Larned, Kansas, One Sister In Law – Charlotte & Bob Minninger of Campbellsburg, Indiana, Several Nieces, Nephews, Aunts & Uncles.

She was preceded in death by her parents & grandparents.

Funeral Services will be held at a later date and time.

James Lynn Fisher

Goodland, Kansas, resident James Lynn Fisher passed away peacefully in his sleep, on Monday, September 23, 2019 at the Topside Manor in Goodland. He was 63 years old.

James was born on September 2, 1956 in Utah. He was the third born child of Ramon LeDell and Thelma Mae (Summers) Fisher. He was one of eight children.

As a young adult, with a wife and children, he received his GED from Colby Community College and then went on to get a license in Carpentry. He worked as a carpenter until mental health made it impossible. He spent the rest of his life helping others as he encountered them on the road of his life’s journey.

James had a deep love for Christ and participated in the ministry of his church until his physical health made it difficult. He also had a talent and a love of playing the guitar. James loved to play Santa for the youngest of his nieces and nephews at the family Christmas dinner. What he was most proud of was having purchased and maintained his own trailer and of being self reliant and independent in spite of his mental health issues.

Preceding him in death were four grandparents (Neff and Erma Fisher) and (Arther and Daisy Summers), his parents (Ramon and Thelma Fisher), one brother (David Fisher), one niece (Ann Marie Fisher), and two nephews (Ashton Lucas and Josiah Lucas).

He is survived by his two sons Gary (Jenny) Fisher of Abilene, Minnesota and Alan (Jessica) Fisher of Buffalo Center, Iowa. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters; Mary Yanez of Goodland, KS, Sheri (Gabriel) Arroyo of Kanorado, KS, Gary (Brenda) Fisher of Goodland, KS, Kathryn Kufahl of Colby, KS, Kenny (Sylvia) Fisher of Goodland, KS and Raymond (Marlene) Fisher of Goodland, KS; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Arrangements were entrusted to Koons-Russell Funeral Home.

Darlene Mae Howe

Darlene Mae Howe, 85, passed away September 17, 2019 in Olathe, Kansas.

She was born August 25, 1934 in Hodgeman County to Harry and Pearl (Kline) Klinge.

A longtime area resident, she spent much of her life serving others, as a waitress, a cook, as well as a paraprofessional for the Dodge City School District. However, her favorite “job” by far was being a mom and grandma.

She was a devout Christian and she enjoyed sharing her testimony through her “Minnie Pearl” impersonation. She also loved writing poetry and songs and even authored a book entitled, “From Darkness to Light”.

She also served as the president for both the Southwest Kansas Association for the Visually Impaired (SKAVI) and the Kansas Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (KABVI). She was a volunteer at Envision and Helping Hands as well as numerous other organizations.

On December 31, 1959 she married Earl Monroe Howe at Hanston, he preceded her in death on October 7, 1987.

Survivors include; daughter, Mary (Jeff) Dietz, Derby; son, Gene (Jami) Howe, Overland Park; five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Tanny Kilgore; son, Allan Howe a grandchild, Kristian Holm; two brothers, Melvin and Bill Klinge and a sister, Thelma Madison.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday, October 6, 2019 at Faith Fellowship Church, Hanston, with Pastor Roger Alford presiding.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Evergreen Hospice Care in care of Beckwith Funeral Home PO Box 663, Jetmore, Kansas, 67854.

Rita J. Buehler

Rita J. Buehler, age 72, passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at the Scott County Hospital in Scott City, Kansas. She was born on October 13, 1946 in Longmont, Colorado, the daughter of Charles Grant and Nadi-ene Ebel Neeley. A resident of Scott City, Kansas since 1964 moving from Dighton, Kansas, she was a Cosmetologist.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Scott City, Kansas.

On May 31, 1964 she married Richard D. Buehler in Dighton, Kansas. He survives.

Survivors include her Husband – Richard D. Buehler of Scott City, Kansas, Two Sons – Darin & Robin Buehler of Scott City, Kansas, Shane Buehler of Kearney, Nebraska, Two Daughters – Tara Buehler of Aurora, Colorado, Richel & Curtis Stagner of Aurora, Colorado, One Brother – Paul Neeley of California, Five Grandchildren and One Great Grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her Parents.

Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 28, 2019 at the First Baptist Church in Scott City, Kansas.

Inurnment will be held at a later date and time.

Isaac Wayne Stone

Isaac Wayne Stone, age 21, passed away on Friday, September 21, 2019, in Tribune, Kansas.

Isaac was born December 24, 1997, in Wichita, Kansas. A resident of Tribune, Kansas since 1999 moving from Garden City, Kansas, he was a farmer. He was a 2016 graduate of Greeley County High School in Tribune, Kansas, where he was on the wrestling squad, was active in 4-H and FFA.

Isaac’s surviving family includes his Fiancée’ – Sarah Lightner- Tribune, Kansas, Two Children – Octavia Stone- Tribune, Kansas, Layla Stone- Tribune, Kansas, Parents – Dale & Sheri Stone – Tribune, Kansas, Five siblings – Tammi & Justin Hazel- Tribune, Kansas, Ralph Stone- Hays, Kansas, Isaiah Stone – Colby, Kansas, Elijah Stone – Oahu, Hawaii, Ezekiel & Gabby Stone – Beaufort, South Carolina, Grandparents – Loretta Stone- Tribune, Kansas, Ronnie & Cheryl Rock – Perryton, Texas, Kathy Krayca – Tribune, Kansas, Great Grandmother – Ann Krayca – Goodland, Kansas, Numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Dean Edward Turner

Dean Edward Turner, 88, of Osborne, KS passed away on Monday, September 23, 2019 at the Osborne County Memorial Hospital of Osborne, KS. Dean was born on December 1, 1930 in White Cloud, KS to George A. & Lola E. (Taylor) Turner. Dean had 1 sister.

Dean’s family moved to Hiawatha, KS at an early age. He graduated from high school there & attended KU for 1 year. Dean joined the U. S. Army & served for 2 years. Sixteen of those months he served in Korea. Dean was a member of the American Legion & was a Life Member of VFW. He was also a member of the United Christian Church of Osborne.

Dean was a Warehouse Examiner of the Kansas Grain Inspection Dept. for 31 years. He retired in 1993.

Dean married Norma J. Whaling and to this union, 3 children were born. Several years after Norma passed away, he later married Joan Oelke.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Norma in 2007.

Dean is survived by his wife, Joan; sons: Mitchel of San Antonio, TX; Michael (Richelle) of Kansas City, MO; daughter: Marty (Troy) Gaston of Apex, NC; 12 grandchildren & 11 great grandchildren; sister: Georgia ‘Jo’ (Dean) Marxer, of Costa Mesa, CA; 2 nieces & 1 nephew.

Renetta (Schmidtberger) Witt

Renetta (Schmidtberger) Witt, 93, of Russell, Kansas passed away September 23, 2019 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. She was born Renetta Marie Schmidtberger on March 12, 1926 in Gorham, Kansas the daughter of Frank and Mary (Mermis) Schmidtberger. She grew up on a farm in Gorham, Kansas with five other siblings.

Renetta spent the last five years living with her daughter Marlene Thompson in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Renetta was united in marriage to Lloyd J. Witt on April 6, 1948. Lloyd was engaged in farming and owned Witt Motor Company. Lloyd preceded her in death on May 19, 1967. As well as her parents Frank and Mary Schmidtberger, brothers Ed, Herman and Al and her sister Marcella Haselhorst. Surviving Renetta is her brother, Linus Schmidtberger, of Corpus Christi, Texas, many nieces and nephews.

From this union, Renetta and Lloyd were blessed with two daughters. Mrs. Connie (Gary) Patterson of Lawrence, Kansas and Ms. Marlene Thompson of Lee’s Summit, Missouri. She leaves behind 5 grandchildren who adored her, Ryan (Rachelle) Patterson, Charlotte, North Carolina, Laura Patterson, Austin, Texas, Mark (Elisabet) Thompson, Shawnee Kansas, Matt Thompson, Lee’s Summit, Missouri and Travis (Maria) Thompson, Stuttgart, Germany. Four great grandchildren Avery, Liam and Reid Patterson and Mia Thompson. She will be remembered as a caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother and dear friend with a cheerful smile.

Renetta worked at the City Bakery when she first came to Russell and the Safeway Store. Then she worked for over 40 years at Banker’s Mercantile from 1943-1985. She was seventeen years old when she began working for Banker’s in the Ladies Department. She loved her job and was especially fond of assisting customers to find the clothing fashions to best suit their needs and coordinating accessories. She loved going on vacations with her daughters and their families.

Renetta was a member of St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church, a lifetime member of the Ladies VFW Post #620 Auxiliary, St. Mary’s Church Guild, The Elks Lodge, Hallmark Collector’s Club and the Russell Antique Collector’s Club. She was an avid Kansas University basketball fan, cordially sent greeting cards and letters to family and friends, enjoyed embroidery work and loved flowers and all things that were glittery. She often attended auctions and had a passion for antique glassware.

A Celebration of the Funeral Mass is scheduled for 10:30 AM, Friday, September 27, 2019 at St. Mary Queen of Angels Church of Russell with Father Mike Elan officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday September 26 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell. Vigil and Rosary will be held at 7:00 PM, Thursday, September 26, 2019 at St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church. Memorials have been established with St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church or Russell Legacy Fund (Russell Historical Society). Howard L. Rajewski

Howard L. Rajewski, age 91, from Vincent, Kansas, died Monday, September 23, 2019, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.

He was born March 13, 1928, on the family farm at Vincent, Kansas, to Leo and Anna Helen (Huser) Rajewski. He married Aquina (Leiker) on August 25, 1948, at Victoria, Kansas.

He was a farmer, a dairyman for over 50 years, worked for Hunter Construction for a number of years, and lived all of his life in the Vincent Community. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, served on the Parish Council at Vincent, Kansas, the Victoria 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus, the Victoria 4th Degree Assembly Knights of Columbus, and a former member of the Victoria Co-op Board. He spent several year as a volunteer basketball coach for the Vincent Grade School. Howard attended the Vincent Grade School, and was a 1946 graduate of Victoria High School.

Survivors include his wife, Aquina Rajewski, of the home; three sons, Dr. Richard Rajewski and his wife, Vicki, Hays, KS; Neal Rajewski, Vincent, KS and his friend, Deb Schmeidler, Hays, KS; Dr. Roger Rajewski and wife, Lian, Lawrence, KS; four daughters, Susan Kisner and husband, Deacon Dave, Hays, KS; Rosann Schippers and husband, Thomas, Wichita, KS; Joann Wheeler and husband, Rory, Wichita, KS; Leann Fortino and husband, John, Olathe, KS; one brother, Delando “Del” Rajewski and wife, Donna, Arvada, CO; one brother-in-law, Gilbert Sander, Great Bend, KS; 16 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren, and one great grandchild on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Marceline Denning, Kathleen Sander and Juliana Dinkel.

Services are 10:00 A.M. Thursday, September 26, 2019, at the Basilica of St. Fidelis, Victoria, Kansas. Burial in St. Boniface Cemetery, Vincent, Kansas.

A vigil service and a 3rd & 4th Degree Knights of Columbus rosary will be at 6:30 P.M. Wednesday, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary, 412 Main Street, Victoria, Kansas 67671.

The 4th Degree Knights of Columbus will stand honor guard from 6:30 to 7:30 P.M. Wednesday at the mortuary.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. Wednesday, and from 8:30 to 9:45 A.M. Thursday, all at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary, Victoria, Kansas.

Karla Kay (Brown) Kingsbury

Karla Kay (Brown) Kingsbury, 64, of Dorrance, Kansas, passed away Sunday, September 15, 2019 at her home.

Karla was born September 16, 1954 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was the daughter of Bernard Franklin and Joyce Ann (Pfeifer) Brown. She grew up in Michigan until her family moved in 1968 to Boulder, Colorado. She graduated from Fairview High School in Boulder and then attended the University of Colorado where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority.

Karla was united in marriage to Duane Edward Kingsbury on October 8, 1977 in Boulder. This union was blessed with three children; Jennifer, Ryan and Steven. They moved to the family farm south of Dorrance in 1978. Duane preceded her in death on June 21, 2010.

Karla was a U.S. Postal Mail Carrier for many years in Russell. Before that she worked at an Accountant and later a Foreman for King Of The Road. She also worked for the parent company, Chief Industries, in York, Nebraska. She also worked at McDonalds in Russell for several years. She enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Russell Ladies Golf Association, spending time with friends, cheering on her beloved Denver Broncos and the University of Colorado Buffalos. But her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.

Karla’s surviving family include her daughter, Jennifer Kingsbury (Bill Gould) of Temecula, California; brother, Craig Brown of Long Beach, California; sister, Pamela (Brown) Blasich of Temecula, California; and three grandchildren, Apryl, James and Aspyn.

Karla was preceded in death by her parents; husband Duane; sons, Ryan Kingsbury and Steven Kingsbury.

Celebration of Karla’s Life will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, October 7, 2019 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell. A private family burial of ashes will follow at a later time. The family will be present to greet friends at 10:00 AM to Service Time at the mortuary. A Memorial has been established as the Grandchildren’s Education Fund. Marvin Willie Wudtke

Marvin Willie Wudtke, beloved son of Paul Emil and Agnes (Dicks) Wudtke, was born October 2, 1926 at the family farm 8.5 miles northwest of Norton, and passed away in Norton on September 22, 2019, at the age of 92.

Marvin was baptized on October 10, 1926, confirmed and remained a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church throughout his lifetime. Marvin attended Lutheran parochial school completing the 8th grade in 1940. He later earned his high school diploma from Colby Community College in 1971. On January 3, 1976, Marvin and Mary Slipke were united in marriage. They were devoted to each other and lived their entire married life in Norton until Mary’s passing on April 28, 2007. Marvin farmed northwest of Norton until he retired. He took pride in being a good farmer and supported the agriculture industry through local, state, and national organizations and was also an active member of the American Agriculture Movement in the 1970s.

Marvin enjoyed bowling for many years and competed in local and state tournaments. He was proud of his many trophies and awards. Marvin also collected toy tractors and was eager to talk about their history, and who in the neighborhood owned that specific model of tractor and when he operated them.

Survivors include: one sister, Norma Jean Davis, Colorado Springs, Co; one sister-in-law, Miriam Slipke, Hoxie, Ks; many loving nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers, Herman and Arthur Wudtke, three sisters, Leanora Braun, Ida Gowens, and Alma Schulze.
