Nelson Hartman, 90 of Fort Collins, Colorado was welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven on February 15, 2018 after a long battle with dementia. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Nila Mae Jones Hartman; two children, Cynthia Hartman of Fort Collins, CO and Clark & Karen Hartman of Delaware, OH; by three grandchildren, Drs. Elizabeth & Robby Kuo of Cincinnati OH, Sarah Hartman of Columbus, OH, and Andrew & Kelly Hartman, the parents of one great grandchild, Grant of Columbus, OH; two sisters-in law, Kathryn Jones Miller and Julia (Maureen) Jones together with many nephews, nieces and a large extended family.
Nelson was born on November 3, 1927 to Henry & Elizabeth Scheuerman Hartman in Bison, Kansas and graduated from Bison High School in 1945. He attended Fort Hays Kansas State College where he received both Bachelors (‘49) and Masters (‘57) Degrees in Education. Hartman taught mathematics and coached in Claflin, Cunningham and WaKeeney, Kansas and was Principal and Superintendent of Schools in Goddard, Kansas before joining the Kansas State High School Activities Association in Topeka in 1963 where he later became Executive Director and remained through his retirement in 1993.
Hartman received numerous local and national awards and was a member of the Executive Committee of the National Federation of State High School Associations, as well as the USA Olympic Basketball Committee. He is most known for the development of the overtime rules used in interscholastic football and for his good citizenship-sportsmanship policies. He dedicated his life to promoting positive values in the youth of Kansas through education and sports.
Nelson most enjoyed visiting with family and friends, who will miss him greatly. He will be remembered as a principal with principle who would take time to help and encourage students and generously gave his time and resources to those he loved. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 23, 2018 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 7755 Greenstone Trail, Fort Collins, CO 80525. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nelson’s name to the Redeemer Lutheran Church Youth Ministry. Longtime Goodland, Kansas, resident, Joan Giebler, 86, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2018 at the Citizen’s Medical Center in Colby, KS.
Joan was born on August 9, 1931 in Abilene, KS to Charles Otto Smith, Sr. and Gertrude Blanche Sheriffus. She was one of four children. She grew up and attended school in Hays, KS and graduated from Hays High School in 1949. On November 9, 1950, Joan married Raymond John Giebler in Hays. To this union, six children; Brenda, Sharon, Debbie, Pam, Bruce, and Denise were born.
In 1962, the family moved to Goodland where she worked as a salesperson and bookkeeper. She was a member of the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Her hobbies were playing Bingo, Cards, Puzzles and Board Games. She was a Member of the Elks Lodge.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Raymond, and her brother Melvin Vernon Smith
She is survived by her children Brenda (Derald) Meineke of Yoder, CO, Sharon Moosman of Kansas City, MO, Debbie (Duane) Erkman of Grand Junction, CO, Pam (Gorden) MacPhail of Derby, KS, Bruce (Deborah) Giebler of Colby, KS, and Denise (Jerry) Beard of San Juan Cosales, Mexico. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild; her sister Shirley Thornton of Kanopolis, KS and her brother Charles (Verna) Smith Jr. of Salina, KS.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at 2:30 PM MT at the Koons-Russell Funeral Home in Goodland with Father Timothy Armbruster officiating. Burial will follow in the Goodland Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 from 1:30 to 2:30 PM MT at the funeral home.

Lifelong Goodland, Kansas, resident Terry Allen Ross, 70, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 16, 2018 at the Goodland Regional Medical Center in Goodland.
Terry was born on July 31, 1947 in Goodland, to George Allen and V. Ruth (Brewer) Ross. He was one of two children. He attended school in Goodland and graduated from Goodland High School in 1965. On April 19, 1968, Terry married Diann Frank in Fort Morgan, Colorado. To this union, three children Christopher, Michelle and Rebekah were born.
Throughout the years, Terry ran GAR’s Upholstery, a family business for over 30 years. He also worked as a police officer for the City of Goodland Police Department, and was a deputy for the Sherman County Sherriff’s office. He was on the City and Rural Fire Department, and retired as an EMT after 17 years of service from Northwest Kansas Emergency Medical Services; he was also a member of the First Christian Church. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents George and Ruth Ross.
Surviving family includes his wife Diann of the home in Goodland, three children Christopher (Amanda) Ross of Burlington, CO, Michelle (Robert) Coad of Casper, WY, and Rebekah (Timothy) Clark of Goodland, KS. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Alisha Coad and Katie Coad of Casper, WY, and Treson Clark of Goodland, KS; one great grandson Zander Coad of Casper, WY, a brother Kevin (Brenda) Ross of Edson, KS; two nephews Eric Ross and Curtis Ross of Goodland, KS; and a sister-in-law Kay Weeks of Greeley, CO.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at 11:00 AM MT at the First Christian Church in Goodland with Pastor Doug Amend officiating. Cremation will follow the services at the church.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 19, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM MT at the Koons-Russell Funeral Home in Goodland, KS.

Former Norton resident Patrick H. Underwood passed away Feb. 14, 2018 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, KS at the age of 69. He was born Oct. 3, 1948 in Norton, the son of James & Jacqueline (Valle) Underwood.
Survivors include his mother, Jacqueline of Norton; 2 brothers, Robert & William of Norton; his friend and caregiver, Nancy Chaffin of Hays and several nieces & nephews.
Cremation was chosen. A graveside service will be held Thursday, Feb. 22 at 2:00 p.m. in the Norton Cemetery with Pastor Timm Meyer officiating.

Louis George Hynes, 90, peacefully left us on February 16, 2018, five days before celebrating his 91st birthday. He was born February 21, 1927, in his farm home south of Sylvan Grove, to John and Anna (Kulich) Hynes. He was the youngest of eight brothers, and attended Orbitello country schoolhouse through the eighth grade. He was united in marriage to Norma Arlene Mudd on September 12, 1962, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Russell.
Louis was born and lived his entire life on the family farm south of Sylvan Grove until his health began to deteriorate in 2014, when he moved to Arbor Court senior living in Salina. Growing up he worked on the farm, loved planting and harvesting crops, and raising cattle and pigs. He also played in several bands in the area, and was a self-taught drummer, pianist, and accordion player. He never learned to read music, but played by ear, and entertained the residents at Arbor Court by still playing the piano and singing at the age of 90. He was also an electrician, volunteer firefighter in Sylvan Grove, and presided over the election committee in Sylvan grove for many years.
Louis is survived by his son, Tracy Hynes and wife Michelle of Brookville; three granddaughters, Sydney Hynes of Brookville, Amanda Poland and husband Daniel of Gem, and Courtney Schmidt and husband Ben of Philadelphia, PA; one great-grandson, Eli Poland of Gem; and one sister-in-law, Mildred Hynes of Sylvan Grove. He also leaves behind many loving nieces, cousins, and friends.
Louis was preceded in death by his wife Norma Hynes in 1996, his parents, and his brothers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wilson. Burial will follow in the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00-8:00pm on Tuesday at the funeral home with family receiving friends from 3:00-5:00pm. Prayer Vigil will begin at 5:00pm.
James F. “Jim” Munk, age 68 of Hays, Kansas died Saturday, February 17, 2018, at his home in Hays. He was born January 2, 1950, at Hays to Fred O. and Luella Rita (Dreiling) Munk. He married May C. (Thummel) on January 2, 1976 at Plainville, Kansas.
He was a mechanic for over 30 years. He worked at Standish Ford for 10 years, Lewis Ford-Toyota for 20 years. He was semi-retired for the last two months and was a parts runner for the Lewis dealership. He was 1968 graduate of Hays High School, a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays. His pride and joy were his grandchildren and family.
Survivors include his wife, May Munk, of the home; one son, Frederick “Fred” Munk and wife, Chelsae, Hays; one daughter, Heather Millhollen and husband, Michael, Olathe, KS; one brother, Terence Munk, Wichita, KS; one sister, Luanne Kramer and husband, Jim, Hays; four grandchildren, Aderyn and Amara Millhollen; and Spencer and Alexus Munk.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Services will be at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 18th and Vine, Hays, Kansas. Graveside services will be at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, at St. Boniface Cemetery, Vincent, Kansas with military honors by the Hays Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9076.
A vigil service will be at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays,

Robert Lynn “Bob” Bice was taken to Heaven on February 15, 2018 near Plainville, Kansas at the age of 59. He was born on March 6, 1958 in Plainville to the late Auldin and Rose (Shaw) Bice. He is now united in Heaven with the love of his life Lynn Bice. They were united in marriage on September 15, 1978 in Salina, Kansas.
Bob loved his family, friends, and his work. He liked to watch old western movies, loved to be outside in his garage fiddling with tools, but most of all spending time with his loved ones. He liked to take everyone on fishing outings and he really enjoyed helping his buddy on his farm. Bob was a simple, easy going guy with a huge heart. He liked to make everyone laugh, told the best stories, and his smile was infectious. He took pride in his work at Sellers Equipment. He gave them his best work at all times and dedicated thirty eight years to the company. Everyone who had an encounter with him always had the best things to say about Bob. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and was a very generous human being. Bob was extremely humble and wanted the best for everyone around him.
Bob is survived by his sons Scott Chalmers and wife Pam of Holcomb, and Bobby Bice and wife Mandy of Plainville; daughter Karmi Montes and husband Tim of Pueblo, CO; sisters Susan Augustine, Karen Ellis, Nancy Kreutzer, and Liz Miller; and grandchildren Kevin Chalmers, Ally Montes, Cheyenne Montes, Chandler Montes, Lexi Bice, Josey Bice, and Kyler Bice
Bob is preceded in death by his parents Auldin and Rose Bice, wife Lynn Bice, and brother Bill Bice.
Although our hearts are weighing heavy during this difficult time, for he was taken so suddenly, we can find comfort in knowing that Bob is at Peace in Heaven with our Lord Jesus Christ. Stephen D. “Steve” Weilert, 65, Hays, died Friday, February 16, 2018 at his home.
He was born November 11, 1952 in Hays the son of Lawrence J. and Helen R. (Christy) Weilert, Sr. He graduated from Hays High School in 1971 and was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was an oil operator, in the furniture business, and was an entrepreneur and business man. On November 20, 1976 he was united in marriage to Helen S. Fellers at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays. He was a member of the VFW Post #9076 and enjoyed fishing and fishing trips to Colorado, traveling, the outdoors, and cooking. He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan, enjoyed eating at Al’s Chickenette and Stroud’s in Kansas City, and he never missed an opportunity to drive in the mud. Most of all, he loved his family and spending time with his brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Helen, of the home, a son; Travis Weilert of Hays, two daughters; Mary Lawless and husband Erin of Hays, and Heather Hampton and husband Oliver of London, UK, a granddaughter; Charlotte Hampton of London, eight brothers; Lawrence J. Weilert, Jr. “Buster” and wife Elaine of Merritt Island, FL, Cary Weilert and wife Linda of Overland Park, Jan Weilert of Overland Park, Michael Weilert and wife Pamela of Hays, Fred Weilert and wife Jeanne of Hays, Bruce Weilert and wife Linda of Overland Park, Stanley Weilert and wife Ursula of Wichita, and Pat Weilert and significant other Rose Ann Billinger of Hays, three sisters; Helen Ruth Van Orsdel and husband David of Omaha, NE, Suzy Spatz and significant other Galen Norby of Wichita, and Grace Peterson and husband Curtis of Wichita, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jo Sander, age 85, of Victoria, Kansas died Saturday, February 17, at her daughters’ home in Bixby, Oklahoma. She was born August 18, 1932 in Caneyville, Kentucky to Randall and Catherine Ollie (Deane) Evans. She married Daniel Prockish in 1951 and he preceded her in death in 1952. She later married Hubert A. Sander on June 27, 1959 in Hays, Kansas. He preceded her in death on September 14, 1998.
She and her husband owned the Golden Belt Lumber Company in Victoria, Kansas where she worked as the bookkeeper. She also did accounting for over 30 years until she retired in 1991. She was raised in Caneyville and Louisville, Kentucky then moved to Hays, Kansas in 1946. She was a 1950 graduate of Hays High School, attended Fort Hays State College, worked at Kessler’s Cleaners and at Lincoln Grade School. She was a member of The Basilica of St. Fidelis, Daughters of Isabella, Christian Mothers and Veteran of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post No. 1751, all of Victoria, Kansas. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo, gardening, and traveling.
Survivors include one son, Dan Prockish and wife, Peggy, Olathe, KS; three daughters, Brenda Reynolds and husband, Ray, Bixby, OK; Gwen Hoffman and husband, Jim, Bixby, OK; Diane Kuhn and husband, Joe, Victoria, KS; nine grandchildren, Brent (Lindsay) Prockish, Maegan Stoffel, Kelsie Goetz, Jacob Reynolds, Ashley (DeMarcus) Lee, Kristin Hoffman, Emily Hoffman, Anna Kuhn and Cody Thiede, Sarah Kuhn and Zach VonLintel; and ten great grandchildren, Easton, Paxton and Aspen Prockish, Madison Stoffel and Trey Ridge, Riley Kuhn, Blakely and Robby Cook, Braedyn and Brantlyn Lee.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one granddaughter, Kiley Goetz and two sisters, Cecil Rogers and Lee Tracy.
Funeral services are at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at The Basilica of St. Fidelis, Victoria, Kansas and burial in St. Fidelis Cemetery, Victoria, Kansas.
A vigil service will be at 6:30 P.M. Monday, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary, 412 Main Street, Victoria, Kansas 67671 followed by a V.F.W Auxiliary memorial service and rosary at 7:00 P.M. Monday, with the Daughters of Isabella and Christian Mothers.
Visitation is from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. Monday and from 8:30 to 9:45 A.M. Tuesday all at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary Victoria, Kansas.
