Twila B. Berry

Twila B. Berry, 88, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2018 at Presbyterian Manor in Emporia, Kan.,

She was born May 15, 1929 in Colby, Kan. She was a retired beautician.

She was preceded in death by one grandchild and her husband, Duane, on May 26, 1999.

Survivors include sons Boyd Berry of Madison, Kan., and  Randy Berry of Trenton, Kan.; daughters Loretta Bryant of Emporia, Kan., Sheila Jones of Emporia; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 15, 2018 at Kersenbrock Funeral Chapel in Colby with the Rev. James Mardock officiating.

Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 14 at Kersenbrock Funeral Chapel in Colby.

Burial will be at Beulah Cemetery in Colby.

Memorials may be made to Pioneer Memorial Library. Donations can be made in care of the funeral chapel

Donna Hess

COLBY—Donna Hess, 83, passed away Friday, Jan. 5, 2018 in Heber Springs, Ark. She was born Nov. 11, 1934.

Survivors include four children Dillon, Tina, Kirk and Mary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale, on July 24, 2003.

Services will be Monday, Jan. 15 at Berean Bible Fellowship Church in Colby.

There will be no visitation as cremation has been chosen.

W. Pat Dreiling

VICTORIA – W. Pat Dreiling, 86 of Victoria, KS died Sunday January 7, 2018 at Via Christi Village, Hays, KS.  He was born July 21, 1931 in Vincent, KS to Alfred and Ellen (Baier) Dreiling.  He graduated from Victoria High School, served in the US Army, and attended Fort Hays State University.

He married Theresa Lang on October 16, 1951 and farmed in the Pfeifer, KS area until relocating to Victoria in 1964.  Pat is survived by his wife, Theresa of Victoria, daughter Carolyn (Bernie) Berens of Salina, KS, and three sons Paul (Judy) of Victoria, KS Keith (Linda) of Topeka, KS and Craig (Mary Ann) of Wichita, KS, thirteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and one sister, Mary Ellen Williamson of Port Charlotte, FL.

Pat began his insurance career with the Meckenstock Insurance Agency in 1965 and then in 1967 joined Farmers Alliance Mutual Insurance Company until he retired in 1995.  Pat’s insurance career included claims adjusting, marketing, and insurance education in 12 states.  Pat was a Certified Insurance Counselor and active in the Kansas Association of Insurance Agents.

Pat was an active parishioner of the Basilica of St. Fidelis Catholic Parish throughout his life including 6 years on the Parish Council and 24 years on the City of Victoria Planning Commission.

His retirement years included maintaining the Basilica of St. Fidelis Parish grounds, serving on the Senior Advisory Committee of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas, and driving cars for several Hays, KS car dealerships.

Visitation will be Friday January 12th from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM with Vigil and Rosary beginning at 7:00 PM. Saturday visitation will be 9:00 AM – 9:45 AM all at the Basilica of St. Fidelis Catholic Church Victoria, KS.

Funeral Mass will be Saturday, January 13th at 10:00 AM at the Basilica of St. Fidelis Catholic Church Victoria, KS.

Verle E. ‘Doc’ Montgomery Jr.

Hays, Kansas – Verle E. “Doc” Montgomery Jr., age 88, died Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at the Good Samaritan Society of Hays. He was born June 24, 1929, in Jamestown, Kansas to Verle and Kathryn (Haskins) Montgomery Sr. He married Iris “Rusty” (Russ) on December 14, 1950 at Jamestown, Kansas. She preceded him in death on April 5, 2005.

Doc was a salesman of specialty advertising items for over 25 years in Hays and the northwest Kansas area. He grew up in Jamestown, Kansas, attended Mesa College in Grand Junction, Colorado and was a veteran of the U. S. Army. Doc moved to Hays, Kansas in 1961, he was manager of Wards for 13 years and then was manager of Sears for 9 years both in Hays.

Survivors include two sons, David Montgomery and wife, Susan, Eagan, MN; Robert Montgomery, Fayetteville, AK; two daughters, Jeanne Miller, Kaw City, OK; Amy Beam and husband, Greg, Phoenix, AZ; one sister, Linda Whitehead, Concordia, KS; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and one son-in-law, Gary Miller.

A celebration of his life will be from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22nd Street, Hays, Kansas 67601.

The family suggest memorials to the Good Samaritan Society of Hays.

Norman E. Greene

Norman E. Greene, age 88, of Victoria, Kansas died Friday, January 5, 2018 at Friendship Village Hospice Care, Tempe, AZ. He was born September 19, 1929 in Manhattan, New York to Myron H. and Barbara I. Greene. He married Edoline J. (Martin) on November 30th, 1957.

He was a member of the Missouri Bar and practiced law in Kansas City, Missouri. Norman was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. He originally lived in Long Island, New York; married and raised his 3 children in Kansas City; retired to Florida. His love for family and Kansas returned him to Victoria, Kansas, then final residence in Scottsdale, AZ.

Survivors include three children, Andy Greene and wife, Maxine, Hays, KS; David Greene, Victoria, KS; Teresa Pavelonis and husband, Joel, Phoenix, AZ: one brother, Myron Greene, Overland Park, KS; 6 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Graveside Celebration of Life Services will be 1:45 PM Saturday, January 13, 2018 at St. Fidelis Cemetery in Victoria, KS.

Mildred D. Stephens

Mildred D. Stephens, Colby, passed away Mon., Jan. 8, 2018, at the Prairie Senior Living Complex in Colby at the age of 93.

She was born Nov. 25, 1924 in Denver. Mildred was a retired homemaker.

Her husband, Carl B. Stephens, died in 1977. Mildred is survived by two sons, Charles “Chuck” Stephens of Menlo, KS, and Kent Stephens of Colby, and by two daughters, Dee Hovda, Colby, and Marsha Zierlein, New Braunfels, Texas. She has 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services are Fri., Jan. 12 at 11 a.m. at Kersenbrock Funeral Chapel, 745 S. Country Club Dr., Colby. Visitation is Thu., Jan. 11 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Kersenbrock Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at St. Martin’s Cemetery, Sequin, KS.

Memorials may be made in Mildred’s name in care of the funeral chapel to be designated at a later date.

Katie Davis

Former Phillipsburg resident, Katie Davis, passed away Nov. 24, 2107 in Wichita at the age of 91.  She was born Sept. 3, 1926 in Russell, Kan., the daughter of Frederick and Katherine (Pope) Peil.

Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Harmon of Phillipsburg and Denise Hays of Wichita; three sons, Howard of Dodge City, Joe of Fremont, Calif. and Loren of Pleasanton, Calif.; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Cremation was chosen. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13 in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Joel Hiesterman officiating.

Memorials have been established to the Phillipsburg City Library.

Judy Ann Phillips

Judy Ann (Blackburn) Phillips, age 68, of WaKeeney, passed away Thursday, January 4, 2018 at her home in WaKeeney. She was born November 15, 1949, in Hays, Kansas, to William Frederick and Leona Lorene (Shubert) Blackburn.

Judy was a 1967 graduate of Ellis High School and attended Fort Hays State University. On September 1, 1967, she was united in marriage to Albert Lynn Phillips, in McPherson, Kansas. She wasn’t afraid of any type of work or challenge. She worked several professions including housewife, mother and grandmother, Scale operator at Farmer’s Grain of Ellis, Rancher, and would retire as the Director of Communications at the Trego County Dispatch Center.

Judy was in her 40th year of sobriety and mentored many in their paths to sobriety during her lifetime.

Judy was the queen of pinochle and found much joy in teaching the game to others. She spent many hours of her life on the Saline River north of Ellis. Judy enjoyed shooting photos of nature and wildlife, using those photos and her poetry to create greeting cards. Judy loved to cook and shared her secret recipes with her granddaughters. Her sense of humor and laughter were infectious and recognized by all.

Survivors include her husband Bert; son, Travis (Monique) Phillips of WaKeeney; daughter, Nikki (Steven) Hausler of Ellis; grandchildren, Cheyenne (Zack) Ewing, Shawnee Phillips, and Dani Jo Hausler; brother, Wayne Walz of Plainville; sister, Peggy Blackburn of Ellis; numerous nieces and nephews; and her special little service dog, Nellie. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Delores Elliot and Diane Langley; and son-in-law, Todd Joseph Schmidt.

Family hosted memorial services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Ellis United Methodist Church.

COLBY – Mildred D. Stephens, 93, died Monday, January 8, 2018, at Prairie Senior Living Complex, Colby, KS.

Randall Lee Link

Randall Lee Link passed away on December 27th, in Wichita, Ks at the age of 65, with his daughters by his side.

Randy is survived by his daughters, Nicole Glass and Ashley Girardot, 3 granddaughters, and 2 sisters, Vicki Black and Paula Link. He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul Maurice and Dixie Link, and brother Stephen Link.

Randy was born on August 7th, 1952, in Sterling, Ks. After graduating high school and serving in the Army, he spent most of his life in Hays, Ks doing what he loved most, working in the oil field. His career eventually brought him to Wichita, Ks where he spent the rest of his life.

Memorial Mass is scheduled for Saturday January 13th 11:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with visitation beginning that morning at 10:00 am at Minnis Chapel in Ellinwood. Inurnment will follow at Lakin-Comanche Cemetery in Ellinwood
