Robert Dean Brown

Victoria, Kansas – Robert Dean Brown, age 68, died Wednesday, November 15, 2017, at his home in Victoria, Kansas.

He was born December 1, 1948, in Ashland, Kansas to John M. and Irene (Brown) Brown. He married Lucy Ann (Dinkel) on August 5, 1967, in Victoria, Kansas.

He was an auto body repairman, painter and mechanic.  He lived in Denver, CO, Sharon Springs, KS. and moved to Victoria, KS in 1980.  He attended Brighton High School in Brighton, CO and a member of The Basilica of St. Fidelis, Victoria, Kansas.  Robert enjoyed restoring and working on Mustangs and his passion was building three wheeled motor cycles.

Survivors include his wife, Lucy Ann Brown, of the home; one son, Michael Brown and wife, Blythe, Victoria, KS; three daughters, La Donna Braun and husband Frederick, Bunker. Hill, KS; Kimberly Brown and companion, Kenneth Kuntzsch, Russell, KS;  Bobbie Phlieger and husband James, Plainville, KS; one sister, Jean Thompson and husband, Phillip, Midwest City, OK; 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services are 10:00 A.M. Saturday, November 18, 2017, at The Basilica of St. Fidelis, Victoria, Kansas.  Burial in St. Fidelis Cemetery, Victoria, Kansas.

Vigil service and rosary will be at 5:30 P.M. Friday, at Clines-Keithley Mortuary, 412 Main Street, Victoria, Kansas 67671.

Visitation is from 5:00 to 9:00 P.M. Friday, and from 8:30 to 9:45 A.M. Saturday both at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary, Victoria, Kansas.

Robert J. Sellens

Robert J. Sellens, 78, of Russell, Kansas, died on Wednesday, November 15, 2017, at Wheatland Nursing Center in Russell.

Robert was born on August 04, 1939, in Russell, Kansas, the son of Ralph and Berniece (Witt) Sellens. He grew up in the Russell area and graduated from Russell High School. He was a member of the Army National Guard and achieved the rank of Sergeant. He was married for many years to Joyce Irene Ehrlich in Russell, Kansas. During their marriage, they were blessed with 3 children, Mark, Joseph and Teresa. Robert farmed along with his father, and worked as an electrician, hospital supply clerk, police officer, sheriffs officer and truck driver over the years. He was a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church, a Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, a past leader of the Russell civil air patrol wing, and an early Kansas certified EMT. He enjoyed tinkering in electric repair, carpentry, and spending time with his children.

Surviving family include his son Joe Sellens and wife Monica of West Chicago, Illinois, Daughter Teresa Davis of Perkins, Oklahoma, Grandchildren Matthew Sellens, Amy Gans, Mollie Davis, Dana Sellens, Bryant Davis and Terry Davis, along with 3 great-grand-children.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Mark Sellens and brother Richard Sellens.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, November 17, 2017, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, Kansas with Father James Grennan officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Russell. Visitation will be on the day of the service from 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. on Friday. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.

Jan M. Werth

Jan M. Werth, of Hays, KS, passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at HaysMed at the age of 81. Funeral services are pending and will be announced at a later date.

James Thomas Stewart

James Thomas Stewart (Jim Tom or Jim) was born on April 8th, 1927 in Childress, Texas to Dyas Vernon and Ola Jewell Stewart. He grew up in Tyler, Texas. Jim passed away on Monday, November 13, 2017 at his home in Goodland with his family by his side.

Jim joined the Merchant Marines and MSTS at the age of 17 and served from 1943 through 1945. He then moved to Tribune, Kansas with his parents in 1945. In 1949 he rejoined the Merchant Marines and MSTS and served until 1958. He traveled to 48 different countries and 43 different states before Hawaii and Alaska became states.

On September 12th 1958 he married Phyllis Goken in Leoti, Kansas. He owned a custom combining crew and did harvesting in Oklahoma and Kansas. He later sold this and started a Red-Mix business in Tribune, Kansas. He later sold this business in 1965 and moved his family to Goodland, Kansas so that he could attend school at the Vo-Tech College.

Jim went to work in 1965 at Boothroy Memorial Hospital in Goodland. He was in charge of maintenance and the boilers. He left there in 1970 to work for the Goodland Police Department until 1971. In 1971, he went to work for Consolidated Freightways until he retired in 1985. After retiring from Consolidated Freightways in 1985 he went to work driving the school bus for USD 352 until 2002.

Jim is survived his wife Phyllis of the home, 4 daughters, Brenda (Lyle) Louise Chatfield, Linda (Brian) Marie Allaman, Glenda (Russell) Michelle Smith and Kenda (Philip) Colette Bach, 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; one brother Robert Stewart, one sister-in law Mary Mae Stewart and a brother-in-law William (Denise) Goken. Also surviving him are many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Benton Stewart.

Funeral services for Jim will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at 1:30 PM MT at Koons-Russell Funeral Home in Goodland with Ryan Baty, his grandson-in-law officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Goodland Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM MT at Koons-Russell Funeral Home.

Memorials may be designated to the James Stewart Memorial Fund and may be left at the services or mailed to Koons-Russell Funeral Home, 211 N. Main Ave., Goodland, KS 67735.

Emily Virginia Roberts

Emily Virginia Roberts, the daughter of Oscar and Caroline (Frank) Frigon, was born October 10, 1927, in Clay Center, Kansas. She passed away Sunday, November 12, 2017, at her residence in Oberlin, Kansas, at the age of 90.

Emily grew up in Longford, Kansas, located near Clay Center, along with two brothers. She graduated from Clay Center Community High School.

On May 2, 1948, Emily married former husband, James Shoff, in Colby, Kansas. They made their home in Colby and were blessed with seven children. Emily later married Lewis Wendel Roberts, on July 22, 1989, in Colby where they lived during their marriage. She also resided in Quinter for a time before moving to Oberlin five years ago.

Emily was a very loving and devoted mother and grandmother who worked hard to provide a good home for her family. In addition to being a homemaker, she worked as a sales person for Stanley Home products for many years. Some of her favorite pastimes included cooking, gardening, dancing and playing cards.

Survivors include her three sons, Jim Shoff of Topeka, Dennis Shoff (Sherida) of Goodland, and Steven Shoff of Oberlin; four daughters, Chris Shoff of Webster Grove, MO; Debbie Moore (Ken) of Austin, TX; Diana Euhus (Kent) of Oberlin, and Jackie Arnitz (Steve) of Webster Grove, MO; fourteen grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Emily was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Frankie Mullin and Gene Frigon; and both former husbands, Jim and Wendel.

Funeral Service: Saturday, November 18th at 2:00 p.m. at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin with Pastor Shelly Holle officiating

Burial: Baker Township Cemetery, Quinter, KS

Joel Dean Stull

Joel Dean Stull, 60, of Natoma, Kansas, passed away Saturday, November 11, 2017 at his home with his family by his side.

Joel was born December 17, 1956 in Hays, Kansas, the son of Max and Alberta (Jennings) Stull. He grew up in Natoma and graduated from Natoma High School in the Class of ’75. During school he was part of the 1974 State Runner-up Football team and the 1975 State Basketball Champion.

Joel met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Debbie Nickell on August 19, 1980 in Natoma. This union was blessed with four children; Dustin, Allison, Ashley and Amber. They made their home in Natoma.

Joel was owner and operator of Stull Pumping, LLC. He was also involved as a partner with many oil companies in the area. Most all of his life, Joel was a passionate Rancher. He was a member of the Natoma United Methodist Church and Church Council. He was a member of the Eastern Star, Paradise Masonic Lodge and Isis Shrine. He served his community as a member of the Natoma City Council, Natoma Fire Department and Natoma Mayor. He helped with his children by being involved as a 4-H Leader and Coach in basketball and Pee-Wee baseball. He enjoyed hunting deer and coyotes, watching sports especially KU Basketball and KC Royals, spending time with his grandchildren, and taking care of his cattle.

Surviving family include his wife of 37 years, Debbie of the home; son, Dustin Stull (Jennifer) of Natoma, Kansas; three daughters, Allison Williams (David) of Prairie Village, Kansas, Ashley Wolfe (Matt) of Grinnell, Iowa and Amber Pagura (Tanner Portenier) of Natoma, Kansas; like a son, Dustin George of Natoma, Kansas; three brothers, Wane Stull (Cheryl) of Solomon, Kansas, Lary Stull (Peggy) of Hays, Kansas and Keith Stull of McPherson, Kansas; sister, Jean Tatkenhorst (Keith) of Natoma, Kansas; and 10 grandchildren, Jackson, Vaughn, Ava, Iris, Aden, Ryland, Anthony, Maysa, Bryn and Hudson. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Celebration of Joel’s Life will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, November 16, 2017 at the Natoma Gymnasium with Pastor Janet Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow at the Green Mound Cemetery near Zurich, Kansas. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

Harvey Eugene Linn

Harvey Eugene Linn, 87, died Nov. 11, 2017, at Almost Home, Inc., Great Bend. He was born Jan. 22, 1930, in Tulsa, Okla., the son of Harvey and Olive (Franklin) Linn. Harvey served his country during World War II in the United States Army.

Harvey was united in marriage to Rosemary Lichter on Sept. 28, 1957.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus of St. Ann Catholic Church, Albert Mayor and City Clerk, and was the Olmitz baseball and basketball little league coach for many years. He worked for Natural Gas Pipeline Company of America for 37 years and retired in 1992.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years Rosemary Linn of Albert; six sons Michael and wife Rocio Linn of Bakersfield, Calif, Mitchell and wife Tami Linn of Wichita, Nick and wife Rosemary Linn of Smith Center, Randy Linn of El Paso, Texas, John and wife Sonya Linn of Hoyt, and Joey and wife Lori Linn of Hays; daughter Jeanne and husband Dave Byers of Hoisington; 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Alvin Lichter of LaCrosse; sister-in-law Mary Linenberger of Great Bend and numerous nieces and nephews and many good friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Olive, infant grandsons, Jacob and Isaac Linn; brother-in-law, John Lichter and wife Christine, Joseph Lichter and wife Irene, Henry Lichter and Sylvester Linenberger.

Vigil with Knights of Columbus Rosary will be at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017, at St Ann Catholic Church, Olmitz. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2017, at St. Ann Catholic Church, Olmitz with Father Charles Mazouch celebrating. Interment will be at St. Ann Cemetery, Olmitz, with military rites conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, 415 N. Main, Hoisington. Sharon A. Larsen

Phillipsburg resident Sharon A. Larsen passed away November 10, 2017 at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg at the age of 73. She was born May 29, 1944 in Hays, KS, the daughter of Harry & Laura (Gager) Larsen.

She is survived by 3 sisters: Trudy Berry of Excelsior Springs, MO, Doris Larsen of Eldon, MO and Barbara Little of Camdenton, MO.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 17 at 1:00 p.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor LeRoy Herder officiating. Burial will follow in the Stockton Cemetery.

There will be no visitation. Friends may sign the book from 9:00 to 5:00 Thursday at the funeral home.

Anita O. Wilson

Anita O. Wilson, 80 years young, passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas. She was born Anita Olene Teter on July 4, 1937 at Mooreland, Oklahoma, the daughter of Ralph & Edna Mae (Buck) Teter. She had been a resident of Tribune, Kansas from 1969 through 1979 moving to Enid, Oklahoma and returning to Tribune in 1996. She earned a business degree in 1959, which served her as an employee for the Northwest Stockyard in Enid, Oklahoma, Greeley County ASCS office, as Greeley County Deputy Clerk, the Bison CO-OP, The Burger Bar, Goodies and had her own janitorial service. She was an accomplished seamstress.

She was a former member of the First Baptist Church in Tribune, Kansas.

On December 29, 1956 she married Robert Greeson at Mooreland, Oklahoma. On December 14, 1969 she married Harold Wilson at Woodward, Oklahoma.

Dolores M. Gottschalk

Dolores M. Gottschalk, 82, Hays passed away November 12, 2017 at the Hays Good Samaritan Society with her family by her side.

She was born June 15, 1935 in Victoria, KS, the daughter of Richard and Amelia (Hammerschmidt) Stang. She was a graduate of Girls Catholic High School in Hays. On April 11, 1955 she married Leon Gottschalk in Hays. She was a homemaker, secretary and volunteer. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Daughters of Isabella. She enjoyed sewing, baking, reading and attending K-State football games.

Survivors include her husband, Leon of Hays, two sons; Lloyd Gottschalk and wife Lisa of Centennial, CO and Richard “Rich” Gottschalk and wife Trina of Hays, three daughters; Carol Hall and husband Robert of Leavenworth, KS; Donna Gottschalk of Louisville, CO and Amy Toplikar of Hilliard, OH; Eleven grandchildren; Natalie and Clayton Hall, Amelia and Lucy Geiszler, Allison, Matthew and Maria Toplikar, Cristian, Adam, Jadyn and Shalee Gottschalk.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Donald Stang and sisters, Mary Jane and Gladys Mae Stang.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, November 17, 2017 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 215 W. 13th Street with Fr. Fred Gatschet officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Thursday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Friday at Brock’s-Keithley Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 2509 Vine St., Hays, KS. Toni L. Patton

Toni L. Patton, age 77, passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at the Park Lane Nursing Home in Scott City, Kansas.  She was born on June 28, 1940 in Garden City, Kansas, the daughter of Ted E. and Barbara Park Crist.  A lifetime resident of Scott City, Kansas, she was a bookkeeper at Collingwood Grain, Beef Belt Feeders and Brookover Cattle Company.
She was a member of the First Christian Church and Prairie View Church of The Brethren, American Quarter Horse Association, Compassion International and the Journey To The Cross Rodeo Bible Camp of Garden City, Kansas.
On July 28, 1990, she married Loren O. Patton in Raton, New Mexico.  He passed away on September 14, 2004 in Garden City, Kansas.
Survivors Include her One Son – Brett & Sheryl Mackey of Amarillo, Texas, One Daughter – Cristy & Dan Butcher of Denver, Colorado, Two Brothers – Teddy & Pam Crist of Garden City, Kansas, Max & Janie Crist of Mesa, Arizona, One Sister – Marsha & Boyd LeCheminant of Belton, Texas, Two Granddaughters – Katie Mackey of Amarillo, Texas, Sydney Butcher of Denver, Colorado and One Grandson – Matthew Butcher of Denver, Colorado.

Mary Ann Porter

Mary Ann Porter, 83, of Oakley, died Friday, November 10, 2017 at the Logan County Hospital. She was born April 11, 1934, in Logan County, to John and Julia (Grasser) Temaat. Mary Ann graduated from Oakley High School in 1952. On June 14, 1954, in Oakley, she married “Pete” J.G. Porter. Mary Ann was a farm wife and enjoyed farming, working with cattle and raising her family. She also loved quilting, gardening and volunteering wherever she was needed. Mary Ann was a member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Altar Society.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Pete; brothers, Albert, Robert and William Temaat and sister, Bertha Lee.

She is survived by her children, Cheryl (Daryl) Goetz, Park, KS, Pam (Leroy) Schmidtberger, Collyer, KS, Linda (Mark) Butler, Lone Tree, CO, James B. Porter, Oakley, KS and Patrick Aaron Porter, Oakley; grandchildren, Monica Goetz, Melanie Goetz, Justin (Kayla) Goetz, Michelle (Steve) Bremenkamp, Tiffany Harvey, Chris (Veronica) Schmidtberger, Mark Schmidtberger, Katie Butler and Jonathan (Corine) Porter; six great grandchildren; brother, Paul Temaat; sister, Lu Ewing; sister in laws, Joan Temaat, Phyllis Temaat and Val Temaat and numerous nieces and nephews.
