Frances Louise Parker, 95, of Hays, KS peacefully passed away at the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita, KS on Saturday, August 12, 2017. She was born on March 16, 1922 in rural Ellis County to Raymond A. and Dorothy (Liekam) Schmidt. She married Edward L. Parker January 5, 1942 in St. Severin Church. He preceded her in death in 1967.
She worked as hostess for many years at the Vagabond Restaurant in Hays. She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella and the VFW Auxiliary.
Survivors include her beloved daughters, Mary Beth Allen (Leon Jacobs) and Karen Herrman (John O’Loughlin); sister, Lillian Bennet; six grandchildren, Karl, Tom, Cristi, David Anne and Corey; fifteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren as well as a loving extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Bonnie Goldsberry; a son, Stan Parker; grandson, Andrew Herrman; brothers, Clarence, Marcellus, Elmer, Ben, Alfred, Dan and Willard; sisters, Martina Maska, Mary Esther Munk and Annabelle Lietz.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, August 18, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2017 from 6-8 P.M. A Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary service will be at 6:30 P.M., a Daughters of Isabella Rosary will be at 6:45 P.M., followed by a vigil at 7:00 P.M. all being held at the Brock’s Keithley Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 2509 Vine St., Hays, KS 67601.

Gene Albin, age 86, of rural Gove, Kansas, passed away Monday, August 14, 2017 at Gove County Medical Center, Quinter. He was born Earl Eugene Albin, September 9, 1930, in Quinter to Ernest L. and Myrtle (Goss) Albin.
He attended Gove County East Lonestar District #19 through 7th grade, then went on to graduate from Trego Community High School. On April 22, 1949, he was united in marriage to Patricia “Pat” Nelson in WaKeeney. To this union, four sons were born. They later divorced. Gene married LaVerne McQueen on July 6, 1968, in Independence, Missouri. They enjoyed thirty-nine years of marriage together, until LaVerne passed away on January 31, 2008.
Gene was a retired farmer and rancher. Farming was his passion in life, but he also enjoyed a few other hobbies. He loved to sit down to a good card game with friends, neighbors and family. Some of his favorite games were pinochle and pitch. He was one who loved to visit with anyone. He never met a stranger. Gene will be dearly missed.
Survivors include four sons, Edward and wife Connie, Steven and wife Marla, Rick and wife Carol, and Randy and wife Trish, all of Quinter; fourteen grandchildren, Shaun Albin, Chris Albin, Jeni Miller, Stephanie Mesch, Melisa Wells, Nathan Albin, Heather Jamison, Seth Albin, Joshua Albin, Hannah Albin, Caleb Albin, Curtis, Albin, Lance Albin, and John Albin; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Don and wife Dot of Utica; and a sister, Lois Riggs of Cottage Grove Oregon. He was preceded in death by two infant siblings; a daughter-in-law, Jana Albin; brothers, Glen, Lester, Marvin, Roy, Ralph, and Harold; and sisters, Elsie Roberts, Rachel Johnson, and Pearl Ward.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 18, 2017, at the Quinter Church of the Brethren. Burial will be in the Baker Township Cemetery, Quinter.
Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Quinter.

Keith Gerard “Skeeter” Fieler, 57, Schoenchen, died Thursday, August 10, 2017 at HaysMed.
He was born April 3, 1960 in Batesville, Indiana, the son of Jim and Jean (Lamping) Fieler. On September 22, 1984 he married Carol Ann Karlin in Victoria, Kansas. He was a devoted husband, father of three girls and grandfather of five girls. Keith most recently worked for Citation Oil and Gas. Along with helping during harvest, he also worked various side jobs in the Hays area for several people and businesses. He always put others first, never hesitating to help family, friends, or a stranger in need. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Schoenchen.
Survivors include his wife; Carol of the home, his parents; Jim and Jean Fieler of Hays, daughter; Jade Herl and husband Justin and their children Alyson, Graycee, and Brynn of Victoria, daughter; Chelsea Mauler and husband Trent and their children Halle and Remi of Great Bend, daughter; Heidi Fieler and significant other Cade Gerhard of Hays, brother; Kevin Fieler and wife Kay of Shawnee, sister; Amy Luebbers and husband Jeff of Hays, sister; Dawn Keil and husband Steve of Hays, brother-in-law; Brian Karlin and wife Gale of Hays, sister-in-law Kathy Boggs and husband Steve of Schoenchen, sister-in-law; Brenda Thomas and husband Brett of Houston, TX, brother-in-law Tom Karlin and wife Robyn of Bel Air, MD, twelve nieces, nine nephews, six great nieces, and one great nephew.
He was preceded in death by his sister; Lisa Fieler, mother and father-in-law; Thelma and Gene Karlin, brother-in-law; Alan Karlin, and great nephew; Bentley Scoby.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Schoenchen with Fr. Earl Befort officiating. Burial will be in the St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 8:00 on Monday and from 8:30 am until 9:30 on Tuesday all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine Street. A rosary will be at 6:30 pm followed by a parish vigil at 7:00 pm both on Monday at the funeral home.

SMITH CENTER – Wendell W. Peterson, age 82, passed away on Friday August 11, 2017 at the Smith County Memorial Hospital in Smith Center. Wendell was born the son of Arlie & Anna (Noble) Peterson on May 29, 1935 in Smith County, KS.
He was a 1953 graduate of Smith Center High School. He was a proud Redmen through and through, being senior team captain of football, played basketball and ran track. He was elected student body president and was in stucco all four years being president his senior year. Wendell was an eagle scout as a young man. He was also a member of the United Methodist Church in Smith Center, KS. He attended Kansas State University until 1955 when he came home to help his father at Peterson motors and his mother at The Dairy Center and Pete’s Restaurant. He married Alice Watson in 1955, they later divorced. He later married Jonette Losh in 1988. The restaurant closed in July of 1970, later that year Arlwin Manufacturing was opened and he continued to work in the family business until his retirement in 2014.
He was preceded in death by his parents Arlie & Anna; a brother Gayle; mother in law Dorothy Rody; son in law Mark Howard; and mother of his children Alice (Watson) Nedrow.

Marlan P. Krug, 85, of Russell, Kansas, died on Friday, August 11, 2017, at the Wheatland Nursing Center in Russell.
Marlan was born on May 9, 1932, in Russell, Kansas, the son of Paul W. & LeNora Gertrude (Krause) Krug. He grew up in Russell and attended Russell schools. He worked for Deines Furniture Store, U.S.D. #407 Russell Public Schools as a custodian and Freemont Dairy. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Russell. He was a life member of the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240. He enjoyed collecting various items and was a quiet person strong in his faith.
Surviving family include his brothers Jeral L. Krug (Wanda) of Wichita, Kansas and Darrel L. Krug (Marilyn) of Newton, Kansas and sister Shirley M. Hackerott (Gary) of Osborne, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of Marlan’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, August 15, 2017, at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, with Pastor Roger Dennis officiating. Services will conclude at the mortuary and a private burial will follow the chapel service. Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. Monday, August 14, 2017, at the mortuary. Leslie Lee “Bud” Johnson, 87, of Colby, died Saturday, Aug 12, 2017. He was born on Friday, May 23, 1930 to Lureta (Cayton) and Walter L. Johnson in Colby, KS.
Bud grew up and attended school in Colby where his parents farmed and had a seed business, and young Bud got strong lifting 100-pound bags of seed wheat under each arm. At thirteen he went with his dad to load peaches to bring back to Colby and ended up staying in Colorado to load railroad cars of peaches, which further made his arm wrestling reputation grow. At fourteen he came back home and began driving a gas track. in his twenties he started his truck line hauling wheat to Kansas City and loading steel back this direction. He also enjoyed hauling hay for farmers..
He married Donna Mae Weis on January 17, 1957. Their children are Sharon (Mike) Shirley and Michael Lee (Lana) Johnson.
In his prime Bud started his cattle hauling business, Leslie L. Johnson Trucking. He built his business to include eleven tractor trailers and several lease operators. In his 40’s he sold his trucks and retired. He came out of retirement to work for Service Oil hauling gasoline for twenty more years. His passion was over the road trucking, so he purchased three trucks and trailers and began hauling confectionery sunflower seeds for Johnson Transport until he was 75. Health required that Bud could no longer drive but he stayed active in the business watching out for his drivers and trucks.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Donna on February 27, 1997 and sister Joyce Boulware.
He is survived by his children; grandchildren, Michael L. (Cassie) Shirley, Nichelle (Chris) Carroll, Alisha (Lyle) Dixson, Karli Kriss, Jada (Luke) Tubbs, Jerad (Brittney) Johnson, Jenna (Andrew) Brunner and twenty great grandchildren.

Carol Jean (Jones) Huffman, 60 of Oakley, KS died Thursday, August 10, 2017 in her home.
Carol was born in Oakley on January 29, 1957 to Joyce and Bill Jones. She was a stepdaughter to Charlie Hoeb and Betty Jones. A sister to Kenny Jones and Darrin Hoeb.
Carol attended the Oakley High School; Class of 1975. She was a member of Theta Rho, KAYS, and Pep Club; while in school.
Carol married her soul mate Bill Huffman on January 30, 1982 in Oakley. They have four daughters Candi, Heather, Joy and Leesa. Carol and Bill celebrated 35 years of marriage this past January; they shared the kind of love that few words can express.
Carol enjoyed being able to be a Stay-at-home Mom. Relocating several times while Bill was in the Army before returning home to Oakley in 1992. One of the biggest joys in Carol’s life was being “Nana” to Stephanie, Kelly, Ashley, McKenna, Alyssa, Miranda, and Charlie. Carol loved her family unconditionally and to the depths of her soul.
In 2004 Carol along with her family took on a new venture of buying and running the Dairy King. Working alongside her daughters, husband and several of the grandkids was an adventure she loved. Carol retired from working daily because of health issues, but still enjoyed sitting at Dairy King having “Coffee” with family and friends when her health permitted it. Carol knew no stranger and was full of life and love.
Proceeded in death by her mother and stepfather, Joyce (Bemiss) and Charlie Hoeb; stepmother, Betty (Nickelson) Jones; in law’s, Virgil Huffman Sr. and Ermalina (Rudell) Vernon; grandparents, Marvin and Clara (McCombs) Bemiss, Tom and Cora Jones; many aunts and uncles.
Survived by her husband Bill Huffman of the home; daughters, Candi (Todd) Anderson, Heather Huffman, Joy Huffman, and Leesa Huffman, all of Oakley; father, Bill Jones, of Oakley; brothers, Kenny (Lila) Jones, Darrin (Diane) Hoeb, both of Oakley; grandchildren, Stephanie Benefield (fiancée Steven), Ashley Benefield of Revanna, NE, Kelly Benefield, Alyssa Huffman and Charlie Magley, McKenna and Miranda Anderson all of Oakley; aunts, uncles, many nieces and nephews, family and friends.

Palmer Clarence Dent, 91, of Russell, KS passed from this earth to be with his Lord on Wednesday August 9, 2017.
Palmer was born in Davenport, Oklahoma on October 25, 1925, the son of Clarence and Lottie Dent. He attended Davenport High school but was drafted into the Navy in 1946. Palmer served in the United States Navy serving in the Pacific-Asiatic camp. Upon returning from the service, Palmer completed high school. Palmer married the love of his life, Cleo Irene Robinson, on July 15, 1949, in Hays, KS. They made their home in Russell, KS. They had one son, Shane Palmer Dent. Palmer worked for Haliburton, Chemical Process, and B.J. Service, Inc prior to starting Dent Acidizing in Russell in 1968. Palmer owned and operated Dent Acidizing for 42 years. Palmer dedicated himself to his family and to his love of fishing and hunting. Palmer served as a member of the Russell Church of Christ. He was beloved by many. He was known for visiting those who were ill in the hospital and nursing homes, and enjoyed helping anyone in need. Palmer’s smile and laugh will be greatly missed.
Palmer is survived by his wife, Cleo, his son Shane Dent and wife Michelle of Wichita, KS and two grandsons, Owen and Landon.
Palmer is preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Lottie Dent, and his sister Verneda Ward.
A celebration of Palmer’s life will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, August 11, 2017, at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, Kansas with Pastor Richard Fobes officiating. Burial will follow at the Russell City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. to service time on Friday morning.
