Charlotte Ann Wyatt

On Friday, September, 6, 2019, Charlotte Ann Wyatt, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away at the age of 86 at her home south of Gorham.

She was born on October 29, 1932 in Hastings, Nebraska, the daughter of Chester C. and Isabelle (Archibald) Gates. On August 13, 1954, she was united in marriage to Richard Wyatt in Hastings.

Ann will be forever remembered by her husband and best friend of 65 years; Richard L. Wyatt, her precious children; Nancy A. Seitz, Timothy J. Wyatt, and Terri L. Wyatt, 14 grandchildren, and a plethora of great-grandchildren, extended family and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her beloved son; Ronald L. Wyatt and her brother; Gerald Gates.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at the Gorham Community Church, 101 Clifford Street, Gorham, Kansas. Burial will follow at Winterset Cemetery, south of Gorham. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association. Judith Ellen (Peterson) Driscoll

Judith Ellen (Peterson) Driscoll, 77, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Thursday, September 5, 2019, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.

Judith was born March 19, 1942 in York, Nebraska. She was one of four children born to Edward Theodore and Wreatha Irene (Talbot) Peterson. She grew up and attended schools in York, Nebraska, Topeka, Kansas, Salina, Kansas and Manhattan, Kansas. She graduated from Manhattan High School and then attended Kansas State University.

Judith was united in marriage to Jerry Dean Driscoll in November of 1962. This union was blessed with a daughter, Debora. During their marriage Jerry and Judith lived in Salina, Pueblo, Colorado, Greensburg, Kansas, Salina, Colby, Dodge City, Salina and moved to Russell in 2003. Jerry preceded her in death on May 23, 2005.

Judith was a secretary and key punch operator for the Farm Management Company in Colby. Later she was a physical therapist at a nursing home in Colby. When she lived in Salina she worked for Hedges Neon and was a Home Health Aid. When living in Dodge City she worked with Youthville. When Debora was young, Judith was a devoted wife and homemaker for her family. She is a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and Women of the ELCA. She was also active with the church knitting group. In her spare time she enjoyed fishing, knitting and especially helping take care of the grandchildren.

Judith’s surviving family include her daughter, Debora D. Kreutzer (John Jay) of Russell, Kansas; sister, Verna Del Sullivan of Derby, Kansas; sister-in-law, Nancy Peterson of Maryville, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Michael Kreutzer, Kira Towery and Steven Kreutzer; and four great grandchildren, Maria, Cadence, Draco and Emma.

Judith was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jerry, and two brothers, Joe Peterson and Marvin Peterson.

Celebration of Judith’s Life will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at St. John Lutheran Church in Russell. A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday at Crown Point Cemetery north of Salina. Family has selected cremation and no visitation will be held. Memorials have been established with St. John Lutheran Church or Russell County Food Pantry. Bonnie Carol Fuentez

Bonnie Carol Fuentez, 76, of Gorham, Kansas, died on Friday, September 06, 2019 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.

Bonnie was born on April 29, 1943 in Wallace County, Kansas. She married Oscar Lee Fuentez on August 20, 1966 in Sharon Springs, Kansas. Bonnie and Oscar were blessed with three children: Christina, Regina, and Joseph. Oscar preceded Bonnie in death on June 07, 2007.

Bonnie was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Gorham, Kansas. She enjoyed baking elaborately decorated cakes and cookies which were shared and cherished by family and friends. Bonnie took great pleasure and pride in maintaining her flower garden as well as collecting cookie cutters and Hallmark ornaments. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Surviving family include her daughter Christina Bourland of Russell, Kansas; daughter Regina Gronewoller and husband John of Onaga, Kansas; son Joseph Fuentez and wife Amanda of Windsor, Colorado; grandchildren Christianna Pruden and Danielle Bourland; Eryn, John Michael, and Jarod Gronewoller; Jacob and Abigail Fuentez; and great-grandchild Owen Watts.

A rosary and celebration of the funeral mass will be held Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Gorham, Kansas. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Gorham, Kansas. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or Hospice at Hays Medical Center and can be sent in care of the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler mortuary. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.

Shirley Kay Coleman

Shirley Kay Coleman, a.k.a. Grandma Gray, 76, of Colby, died Thursday, September 5, 2019 at Citizens Medical Center, surrounded by numerous loved ones. She was born June 11, 1943 in Hastings, Nebraska, the daughter of Otto and Dorothy (Arterburn) Schutte. She was the third to the oldest of eleven children. She met and married the love of her life, Robert Coleman, November 27, 1961, in Hastings. To this union three children were born Wesley, Candy and Debbie.

They moved to Colby, Kansas in 1965, where she owned and operated Coleman’s Cleaning Service for over 15 years and co-owned and operated Village Laundromat for over 10 years, before retiring. She enjoyed playing Bingo, painting rocks, and being Mrs. Claus. She loved volunteering for RSVP, taking admissions at the community building. She was an avid sports fan and loved cheering (loudly)for her favorite teams and players. But her biggest passion was spending time with her grandchildren and extended grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband Robert; son Wesley Coleman; daughter-in-law Cheryl Coleman and grandson Aaron, all of Wichita, KS; daughter Debbie (Brian) Quagliano and grandson Nathan Quagliano, all of Colby, KS; grandson Casey (Sabryn) Quagliano, of McCook NE; siblings, Larry Schutte and Alvin (Linda) Schutte, of Hastings, NE, Linda(Danny) Sadd, Glenvil, NE, Richard Schutte, Colby KS, Patricia Haskins and Calvin (Carmen) Schutte, Pender NE.

Preceded in death by daughter Candy; her parents; brothers, Vincent “Skeeter” Schutte and Otto Jr. “Butch” Schutte; sisters Daisy Dickensen and Virginia “Suzie” Condry; brothers-in-law, Archie Platt and Claude “Perry” Condry.

Visitation will be 5-8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 12, 2019, at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby. Henry C. Walz

Henry C. Walz, age 105, died peacefully Friday, September 6, 2019, at the Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital in WaKeeney, Kansas, surrounded by his family. He was born August 16, 1914 at the Walz farm in Trego County, Kansas, the son of Henry C. and Rose Esther Haneke Walz. He was the fourth of their nine children.

He attended grammar school at the Union schoolhouse where he completed the 8th grade. He married Ruth Marjorie Noah on October 8, 1938, at Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church in rural Graham County, Kansas. He was a member of that church until its closing and then became a member of the Red Line Church of God, Palco. Ruth and Henry had five children and were married 74 years prior to her death on October 9, 2012.

Henry attended airplane trade school in Glendale, California in 1938 and then moved to Wichita, Kansas where he was employed by Beech Aircraft. The couple returned to rural Trego County and Henry farmed and worked as a road-grader for the Ogallah Township for four years before assuming responsibility of the family farm upon his eldest brother’s death in 1943. He had two airplanes, an Areonca Champ and a Cessna 170, in the 1950s. He also owned and operated the Ellis Case Dealership, Walz Brothers Equipment Company, out of the original stone house on the Walz farm for several years. He also served on the local COOP board where he was instrumental in getting the Riga Elevator built. He was a life-long farmer and rancher and enjoyed actively living out his years on the family farm.

Survivors include his children, Roma (& Darris) McConkey of Olathe, Kansas; Leroy Walz of rural Trego County, Kansas; Stephen Walz of Crescent Valley, Nevada; Linda Thompson of Corona, California and Beth (& Ralph) Johnson of WaKeeney, Kansas; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; brothers Albert, Harry and William “Billy”; sisters Virginia Elting, Dorothy Shubert, Gladys Fowler, Marjorie Weisner and Margaret Emmerton; sisters-in-law Leona (Shubert) and Helen “Byrl” (Jacobs); brothers-in-law John Elting, Lawrence Shubert, Homer “Pat” Fowler, Clarence Weisner and Homer Emmerton; and daughter-in-law, Brenda (Dirks) Walz.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 o’clock a.m. on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at the Red Line Church of God, 1 mile south and 4 miles west of Palco, Kansas, with Pastor Jerod Brown presiding. Interment will be in the Morlan Township Cemetery, Graham County, Kansas. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Marlin Dale Smith

KENSINGTON- Marlin Dale Smith, age 77, passed away Thursday, September 5, 2019 at the Smith County Memorial Hospital in Smith Center, KS.

He was born June 13, 1942 in Smith Center, KS to Clarence A. and Gladys (Mick) Smith. He was a farmer.

Marlin is survived by his wife Ginger of Kensington, KS; daughters, Marla (Greg) Bernard of Tuscon, AZ and Carla (Jason) Hajek of Seneca, KS; grandchildren Miles Bernard, Cooper, Carter and Cormik Hajek; sisters, Ruth Levin and Donna (Royce) Levin.

Daniel William Snell

Daniel William Snell, age 51, passed away on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at the Oklahoma University Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

He was born on October 19, 1967 in Manhattan, Kansas, the son of Albert William and Betty June Moyer Snell. A resident of Claremore, Oklahoma for 10 years before moving from Bentley, Kansas, he was a Avionics Electrical Engineer for Boeing.

On May 21, 1988 he married Twilla Riedl in Manhattan, Kansas. She survives.

Survivors include his his Wife – Twilla Snell of Claremore, Oklahoma; One Son – Derrick William Snell of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; Three Daughters – Kimberly Miller of Claremore, Oklahoma, Stefanie Harris of Edwardsville, Kansas, Cheyanne Snell of Claremore, Oklahoma; Two Sisters – Terri Belveal of Port Hueneme, California, Dorinda Haskins of Delavan, Kansas; Mother In Law – Ruth Riedl of Scott City, Kansas; One Brother In Law – Harold Riedl of Scott City, Kansas; and Five Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his Parents, One Brother – Justin Snell, Sister In Law – Pearl Sue Riedl and Father In Law – Dean Riedl.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First Christian Church in Scott City, Kansas with Rev. Rodney Hopper presiding.

Interment will be in the Scott County Cemetery in Scott City, Kansas.

Loretta A. Boyington

Longtime Goodland resident Loretta A. Boyington, 96, passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at her daughter’s home in Wichita, KS.

Loretta was born on March 3, 1923 in Howells, NE to Adolph and Bessie (Stecher) Evert. She was one of 10 children. In 1941, Loretta graduated from Sherman Community High School. On April 8, 1948, she married John W. Boyington in Burlington, CO. To this union, five children were born; Eldon, Patricia, Toni, John, and Georgia.

John and Loretta owned and operated the Boyington Motel and Café for many years. Following that, Loretta worked at the Goodland Regional Medical Center as a physical therapy aide until her retirement.
Loretta was a member of Our Lady Perpetual Help Catholic Church. She enjoyed traveling, her children, and their families.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband John, infant daughter Patricia, 5 sisters; Delores, Wilma, Lorene, Dorothy, and Rita, and 3 brothers; LeRoy, Robert John, and Norval.

She is survived by her children Eldon (Joy) Boyington of Goodland, KS, Toni (Ed) Ackerman of Brewster, KS, John (Donna) Boyington of Phillipsburg, KS, and Georgia (Mike) Plant of Wichita, KS. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and her sister Norma Graham of Douglas, WY.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, September 9, 2019 at 10:00 AM MT at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Goodland with Father Norbert Dlabal and Father Andrew Rockers officiating. Burial will follow in the Goodland Cemetery, Goodland, KS.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 8, 2019 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM MT with a Vigil Service and Parish Rosary Service to begin at 7:00 PM MT at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.

Cecil M. Patton and Alice (Tholen) Patton

Cecil M. Patton and Alice (Tholen) Patton of San Jose, California

Cecil, age 81, died April 1, 2001, and was born November 26, 1920, to Ernest B. and Sadie M. (Harrington) Patton.

Alice (Tholen), age 97, died March 9, 2019. She was born January 18, 1922, on the farm at Vincent, Kansas to Frederick U. and Clara G. (Dortland) Tholen.

Cecil and Alice were married September 12, 1943, in North Hollywood, California.

Cecil was a sales and marketing manager for Lockheed Corporation in California and retired after 40 years. They attended Queen of Apostles Catholic Church in San Jose, California.

Alice was raised in Vincent, attended Vincent Grade School, Hays High School and Fort Hays State College. She was a student teacher for a few weeks before moving to California. She lived in Burbank, Campbell, and San Jose. In 2012, she moved to Los Gatos, California where she died. Alice worked for Lockheed Corporation during WWII building planes as a riveter. Alice was a homemaker and worked for Macy’s for 30 years.

Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Holley-Nooteboom and her husband, Fred, Monte Sereno, CA; one son-in-law, Rodney Evans, Reno, NV; three grandchildren, William “Chip” Holley and wife, Cindi; Robert Lee Evans and wife, Lyndsay; David Cecil Evans; grand daughter-in-law, Dawn Holley; three great grandchildren, Brandyn Evans, Emmett Chipman Holley and Alyssa Evans; and many treasured nieces and nephews.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cecil; their daughter, Patricia Ann Evans; grandson, Ian Patton Holley, and her parents. All of her siblings predeceased her. Two brothers, Edward Tholen and Ted Tholen; and her four sisters, Mary Truan, Oleeva Tholen, Mildred Mullen, and Esther Suttle.

Cecil was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert Patton; however, he predeceased his one sister, Jean Giberson.

A funeral mass will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 14, 2019, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Vincent, Kansas. Inurnment will be in St. Boniface Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. Saturday, at St. Boniface Church. The family suggests memorials to St. Boniface Catholic Church, Vincent, Kansas.

Robert W. Harkness, age 88, passed away at the Scott County Hospital in Scott City, Kansas
on Friday, September 6, 2019.

Chi-Ying Huang

Chi-Ying Huang passed away Wednesday evening, September 4, 2019 at the Goodland Regional Medical Center. He was the son of Ai-Yu Huang and Chung-Chong Yu Huang born in Shanghai, China on May 24, 1937.

Ying was the youngest son of five, he and his parents immigrated to Anchorage, Alaska in 1955 and settled in Seward, Alaska. Ying graduated from Seward High School and he attended the University of Alaska and later graduated from the Institute of Medical Technology in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1959. His first job as a medical technologist was in Wenatchee, Washington. In 1960, he served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Berlin, Germany for two years.

After an honorable discharge from the Army in 1962, Ying assumed his profession in medical technology in Goodland, Kansas in January of 1963. On January 24, 2006 he retired after 43 years of employment with the Goodland Regional Medical Center.

Ying married Kin Hsu on November 27, 1965 in Our Lady of Perpetual Help-Catholic Church, Goodland, Kansas. They have been married 53 years and have 3 children, Lauren (Ping) Morris-Omaha, NE, Kalissa (Ming) Kaufman McAtee and husband Mike-Colorado Springs, CO, Lung Huang and wife Courtney-New York City, NY. Ying enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren-Connor & Brenna Morris, Victoria & Audrey Kaufman, and Parker and Archie Huang.

Ying had recovered from a medical crisis Oct. 2017 and had been able to enjoy traveling to spend time with his children and grandchildren, playing poker, lunch and socializing at the hospital, Wednesday night dinners with friends, PEO Chapter Z BIL gatherings, gardening, and being a handyman. Ying should be remembered most by his caring smile, laugh and willingness to help everyone.

Ying served as a member of the Goodland Medical Foundation Board, Goodland City Commission, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, the Veterans of Foreign War, the Goodland Elks Lodge and the Sugar Hills Golf Club and was an active member with the Goodland Cemetery Board.

Ying is preceded in death by his parents, brothers-Chi-Hung, Chi-Tim, sister-Chi-Mei Huang Chao, and niece Lydia Chao.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 6, 2019 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM MT at Koons-Russell Funeral Home in Goodland with a Rosary Service being held at 7:00pm.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 10:30 AM MT at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Goodland with Father Andrew Rockers and Father Norbert Dlabal officiating. Burial will follow in the Goodland Cemetery.
