Bernard J. ‘Ben’ Beilman

Bernard J. “Ben” Beilman, 95, of Louisville, CO died Friday, June 16, 2017 at Juniper Village, Louisville, CO. He was born April 23, 1922 in Hays, KS; the seventh son of Joseph A. and Elizabeth Beilman. Ben married Irene Romey on May 26, 1943 in Philadelphia, PA.

Ben and Irene built their first home in Hays, KS and had eight children. After having spent four years in military service as an infantry Lieutenant, Ben worked for KS Blue Cross Blue Shield for 30 years: first as a marketing representative and then an External Enrollment Director. In 1975, Ben moved his family to Topeka, KS where they lived until 2014. He enjoyed playing music, fishing, gardening, and spending time with family.

Survivors include his wife, Irene; six sons: Mick (Jeanne), Broomfield CO; Paul (Sharon), Las Vegas, NV; Chris (Theresa), Eudora, KS; Jim (Valerie), Bernie (Jeanette), Topeka, KS; Gene (Celina), Hays, KS; two daughters, Clarita Beluscak, Broomfield, CO; Laurie (Phil) Toepfer, Hays, KS; one sister: Mary Ann Deskins (Jim), Wichita, KS; one brother: Wilfred, Penn Valley CA, 22 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Beilman was cremated. On Tuesday, June 27th, 2017, at St Joseph’s Catholic Church, 201 W 13th St, Hays, KS, visitation will be from 9:00am-9:45 am, and a Memorial Mass will be held at 10am followed by internment in St, Joseph’s Cemetery, Hays, KS.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, or St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Hays.

Louise V. Parkinson

Louise V. Parkinson, née Heyne, 102, died Monday, June 19, at Scott County Hospital in Scott City, Kansas, after a fall at her home in May.

She was born July 18, 1914, at Red Lion, Pennsylvania, to Daniel and Blanche (Hannigan) Heyne of 124 North Franklin Street, Red Lion. She was elder sister to Mayfield E. “Babe” Grove, Richard S. “Dick” Heyne, Daniel W. “Tuck” Heyne, and younger sister to adopted brother Nevin S. “Nevvy” Hannigan all of whom preceded her in death.

Louise graduated from Red Lion High School, class of ’32, at the height of the Great Depression. She put herself through nursing school at Hahneman Hospital in Philadelphia where she earned a degree as a registered nurse in 1935. She worked as a general duty nurse at both Hahneman and Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore.

In 1942, several months after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, she joined the Army Nurse Corps, receiving her second lieutenant’s commission and orders to ship overseas to Australia in 1943. She arrived at Sidney just as US and Australian forces were putting Japan on the defensive across the Coral Sea in New Guinea, where she was soon deployed.

Louise served with the 133rd General Hospital Unit, living and working one step from the front line, treating combat casualties. In October, 1944, then a first lieutenant, she was awarded her third battle star for the Battle of Leyte Gulf in the Philippines. While stationed there she met and married Louis (L.D.) Parkinson, a first lieutenant in the Navy, at Tacloban, Leyte, The Philippines, on November 2nd, 1945. All together, Louise served 29 months in Australia, New Guinea, the East Indies, and the Philippines.

The couple moved to Scott City in 1946, where they farmed, raised livestock, grew a family, and lived together for 67 years. Louise was a full-time housewife, mother, and avid swimmer– receiving a Presidential Physical Fitness Award in her 65th year. She was honored to be inducted into The Leo Club Hall Of Fame of the Red Lion Area School District in September of 2016. Louise is survived by daughters Vicki Burr and Beth Tuck both of Scott City, Anne Marchin of Kansas City, and sons Louis “Bo” Parkinson and Daniel Parkinson both of Scott City. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Louise was preceded in death by her husband Lou, and one son, Richard.

Memorial services will be held at a later date and time.

Memorials may be given to the Scott County Library in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home.

There will be no calling times.

T.J. Dreiling

T.J. Dreiling, 86, Hays, died Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at the Hays Good Samaritan Society.

Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced by Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.

Dru Daniel Miller

Dru Daniel Miller, 36, of Gorham, Kansas passed away Friday, June 16, 2017 after a yearlong courageous battle with brain cancer, with his family by his side.

Dru was born July 17, 1980 in Owasso, Michigan, the son of Duane and Donnie Miller. He grew up in Opelousas, Louisiana and graduated from Acadiana Preparatory School. He then attended three years at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette before graduating from Fort Hays State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Relations.

Dru met and fell in love with Jenna Stout on the set of the FHSU television station and was united in marriage on September 25, 2004 in Russell. This union was blessed with six children; Conner, Christian, Janessa, Malachi, Matthias and Jenson. They have made their home in Gorham.

Dru was a District Manager for Cochran Chemical Company since 2013. Before that he worked in sales for Rural Tel and NexTech. He was a member of the St. Philomena’s Chapel of Gorham. He served on the Gorham City Council, the Gorham Community Development Association, revived the Gorham Street Dance and was instrumental in the new Gorham City Park. He enjoyed coaching his children’s softball and baseball teams, fishing, and cheering on his beloved New Orleans Saints. He was an avid sports fan. Dru was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle and godfather. He was always zealous in his traditional Catholic faith.

Dru is survived by his wife Jenna of the home: children, Conner Miller (11), Christian Miller (10), Janessa Miller (8), Malachi Miller (6), Matthias Miller (4) and Jenson Miller (2); father, Duane Miller of Russell; sister, Micah (Miller) Becker (Ryan) of Russell: In-laws Will & Patti Stout of Natoma; Brothers-in-law Shane Stout, Derek Schutte, and Ryan Becker; Sisters-in-law Mari Jo Stout, Diana Schutte, and Michelle Stout; 7 nieces, 2 nephews, and a nephew on the way. He was preceded in death by his mother, Donnie Miller; brother, David Miller, and nephew and godson, Dyron Schutte.

A Solemn Requiem High Mass will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, June 22, 2017 at the Gorham Senior Center. Burial will follow at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Gorham. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell. A Vigil and Rosary will be held at 7:00 PM Wednesday at the Mortuary. A Memorial Fund has been established as Dru Miller Medical Fund. Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.

LeRoy J. Sander

Victoria, Kansas – LeRoy J. Sander, age 81, died Monday, June 19, 2017, at the Good Samaritan Society of Hays. He was born January 29, 1936, at Emmeram, Kansas to Josephine Sander. He spent his lifetime in Victoria and was a member of The Basilica of St. Fidelis.

He worked on the Sander farm north of Victoria and the City of Hays for a few years. He was a member of the Fort Hays Senior Companion Program for a number of years.

He was raised by his mother, Josephine Sander and lived with the Adam and Leona Sander family along with his aunt, Anna Sander. He is survived by his extended family, DeLoyd Sander and wife, Agnes, Hays, KS; David Sander and wife, Rebecca, Hays, KS; Delilah Green and companion, Merle Fager, Victoria, KS; Dale Sander, Victoria, KS; and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Josephine Sander; his uncle and aunt, Adam and Leona Sander; and his aunt Anna Sander.

Services are 2:00 P.M. Friday, June 23, 2017, at The Basilica of St. Fidelis Victoria, Kansas. Burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery Emmeram, Kansas.

A vigil service is at 7:00 P.M. Thursday, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary, 412 Main Street, Victoria, Kansas 67671.

Visitation is from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday and from 12:00 to 1:45 P.M. Friday at the mortuary.

Patsy Ann Jensen

Patsy Ann Jensen, age 87, of WaKeeney, passed away Saturday, June 17, 2017, at Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital. She was born in Madison, Kansas, on March 29, 1930, to Robert and Jenetta (Hubbard) Manis.

Patsy was a loving Wife, Mother, Grandma and Great-Grandma. On November 12, 1960, she was united in marriage to Ralph A. Jensen in Sylvan Grove, Kansas.

Patsy graduated from Salina High School in 1948 and Grace Hospital School of Nursing in 1951 as a Registered Nurse.

Patsy is survived by her husband Ralph A. Jensen of WaKeeney, KS ; two Daughters Debra R. Maska and husband John R. Maska of Hays, KS, Dana M. Hille and husband Dana R. Hille of WaKeeney, KS, Son Richard A. Jensen and wife Gail A. Jensen of WaKeeney, KS; Six Grandchildren, Jenifer Riat and husband Steve Riat of Hays, KS, Jamie Maska of Springfield, MO, Joshua Maska and wife Lauren Maska of Wichita, KS, Suzanne Cadoret and husband William Cadoret of Hays, KS, Brandon Hille and wife Ashley Hille of Kansas City, KS, and Brett Hille and wife Sarah Hille of WaKeeney, KS; 12 Great-Grandchildren, Morgan Maska, Allyson Bowers, Caden and Carsen Riat, Easton and Kennady Maska, Will, Max and Abe Cadoret, Wyatt Hille and Madigan and Elias Hille. Peggy L. Rankin-Baker

Dighton, Kansas – Peggy L. Rankin-Baker, age 69, died Sunday, June 18, 2016, at Via Christi Village Care Center Hays, Kansas. She was born May 23, 1948, in Cleveland, Ohio to William Lee and Minnie Pauline (Rigsby) Smith.

She was a homemaker and a caregiver.  Peggy worked as a traveling CNA, a sales clerk, and a janitorial worker.   With her farther being in the military she grew up in Tennessee, California, Oregon, Kansas, Hawaii and Germany.  She was a member of the Baptist Church, the Tri Sate Coalition of Concerned Motorcyclist and has lived in Dighton since 1977.  She enjoyed caring for others, crocheting, fishing, motor cycles traveling, her family and friends.

Survivors include, one son, William L. Boleraczky, Great Bend, KS; two daughters, Anna Marie Boleraczky and her companion, Ronald, Gilkeson, Dighton, KS; Suzanna Christine Spurlin, Great Bends, KS; four grandchildren and  one great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Steven Boleraczky; one sister, Judy K. Rubin; one nephew, Donald Gene Burdett; and one niece, Lori Ann Burgett.

A private family inurnment will be at a later date.

Darrell D Sunley

Darrell D Sunley, 64 , passed away on June 17, 2017 at the Rush County Memorial Hospital in LaCrosse, Kansas. He was born on July 05, 1952 in Ransom, Kansas the son of Roy and Ethel (McGinnis) Sunley.

He was a farmer/rancher.

Survivors include brothers Ronald Sunley, Leon Sunley, and Richard Sunley. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Shirley Peterson and Dixie Freeman.

Graveside Service will be on Friday, July 7, 2017, 10:30 AM, at the Vansburgh Cemetery, Brownell, Kansas.

Ronald L. Kershner

Ronald L. Kershner, 66, passed away Sunday, June 18, 2017 at his home in Scott City, Kansas. He was born April 20, 1951 in Great Bend, Kansas to Roy and Sarah Sauer Kershner.  He was a resident of Scott City, Kansas since January of 1988 moving from Rozel, Kansas.

He graduated from Fort Hays State University, was a veteran of the Kansas Army National Guard, and owned RK Taxidermy. He worked for over 40 years at several cooperatives and was with the Scott Cooperative for 28 years retiring on December 31, 2015. Ron loved to hunt and fish.  Ron was a member of Pheasants Forever, Kansas Taxidermy Association, NRA and was a past Boy Scout.

He married Beth Hayse of Greensburg, Kansas on May 24, 1975 in Hays, Kansas.

He is survived by his Wife – Beth of Scott City, Kansas, Two Sons – Michael (Stephanie) Kershner of Garden City, Kansas and Jeffrey Kershner, Ocala, Florida, One Daughter – Jennifer Kershner of Scott City, One Brother – Larry (Marilyn) Kershner, Midland Michigan, Four grandchildren – Jaycee and Dash Stewart of Garden City, Kansas, Kinzee Kershner of Garden City, Aiden Kershner of Scott City, many nephews, nieces and numerous extended family members and an abundance of loving friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant son Nicholas.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Scott City, Kansas with Fr. Bernard Felix presiding.

Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to Ronald Kershner Memorial Fund.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Brown Grove Cemetery in Burdett, Kansas.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. Until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Scott City, Kansas.

Carroll A. Knoll

Carroll A. Knoll, 79, died Saturday, June 17, 2017 at his home in Garden City. He was born July 14, 1937 in Hays, Kansas the son of Adam & Barbara (Sander) Knoll.

Carroll grew up and attended school in Victoria, Kansas. He graduated from Victoria High School in 1955. He later attended Fort Hays State University where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in English. He then served in the United States Air Force in the early 1960’s. On August 29, 1959, Carroll married Donna Belle Russell in Dodge City, Kansas. They lived in various places in Kansas before moving to Garden City in 1967. They have lived in Garden City since. Carroll first worked for many years as an adjuster for Farmer’s Insurance Group. He later operated his own Private Investigation service.

Carroll was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Elk’s Lodge. He enjoyed playing handball, fishing, golfing, playing cards, and he loved to spend time and socialize with friends and family.

Survivors include a son: Richard Lee (Janet) Knoll of Woodland Park, CO; 2 daughters Jeris Ann (Brian) Newcomer of Wildwood, MO and Rhonda Marie (Tim) Miller of Garden City, KS; 3 brothers Omer Knoll of Palco, KS, Les Knoll of Gilbert, AZ, and Larry Knoll of Littleton, CO; a sister Janie Tenney of Las Vegas, NV; 10 Grandchildren; and 8 Great-Grandchildren. Carroll is preceded in death by his wife Donna who died on October 22, 1998. He is also preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers Wayne Knoll, Devon Knoll, and Terry Knoll; and a sister Iris Knoll.

A vigil service and rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 23 also at St. Dominic Catholic Church with Fr. Reginald A. Urban presiding. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. There will be no calling hours.

The family suggests memorials given to St. Catherine Hospice or to the Cancer Center At St. Catherine Hospital both in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.
