Francis William ‘Sonny’ Miller

screen-shot-2017-03-06-at-7-56-37-amFrancis William “Sonny” Miller, age 91, passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at Wichita County Health Center in Leoti, Kansas. Sonny was born May 9, 1925 on the Miller family homestead near Marienthal, Kansas, the son of Fred Francis “Frank” & Ethel (Forbes) Miller. A lifetime resident of Wichita County, Kansas, he was a Farmer.

Sonny was a member of the former Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church in rural Wichita County, he and his family were involved of the building of the Church. Church membership is currently with The United Methodist Church in Leoti, Kansas. He also served the community in the 60’s as a High Plains School Board Member, and a Wichita County School Board member in the 70’s. He was also active in the Scott County CO-OP.

On November 25, 1951 he married Patricia T. “Pat” Scott in Scott City, Kansas.

Pat passed away on August 7, 2010 in Leoti, Kansas.

Friends may call from 1:00 pm until 5 :00 pm Sunday and from 10:00 am until 8:00 pm Monday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Leoti, Kansas.

Funeral services will be Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Hays. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday 4 PM – 8 PM and Thursday 9 AM – 9:30 AM all at Brock’s-Keithley Funeral Chapel and Crematory 2509 Vine Hays, KS 67601.

A  Knights of Columbus rosary will be 6:45 PM Wednesday followed by a parish vigil service all at the funeral chapel.

Diana Dome

diana-dome-001Diana Dome, 75, Hays, died Saturday, March 4, 2017 at her home.

She was born October 18, 1941 in Hays the daughter of Anton and Anna (Wasinger) Ruder.  In 1959, she graduated from Girls Catholic High School in Hays and went on to receive her associate degree from business school in Denver.  On October 20, 1962 she was united in marriage to Benjamin D. Dome in Hays.  He preceded her in death on June 27, 1989.  She was a bookkeeper at DSNWK in Hays for twenty seven years, until her retirement.  She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and was a founding member of the Perpetual Adorers. Her hobbies included reading, jigsaw and crossword puzzles, fishing, travel, coffee and cards, and she enjoyed gambling and going to the casino.  She loved her family and especially loved attending all of her grandchildren’s events.

Survivors include two daughters; Lisa Zweygardt and husband Harvey of Wichita, and Melinda Pfannenstiel and husband Leon of Hays, a son; Aaron Dome and wife Kolleen of Hays, a brother; Earl Ruder and wife Mary of Oklahoma City, four sisters-in-law; Ila Mae Ruder of Hays, Norma Jean Ruder of Liberal, Virgilene Tanga and husband Nick of Salt Lake City, and Verda Graff of Omaha,  a brother-in-law; Bill Dome and wife Jeannie of Paducah, KY, ten grandchildren; Terra Karst and husband Dustin of Hays, Cayle Zweygardt and wife Taryn of Bentley, KS, Michayla Zweygardt of Wichita, Tara Graham and husband Cody of Hays, Luke Pfannenstiel and wife Kim of Hays, Hanna Pfannenstiel, Kirk Pfannenstiel, and Jarett Pfannenstiel, all of Hays, and Valerie Dome and Benjamin Dome, both of Hays, seven great grandchildren; Payten Karst, Kennedy Karst, Collins Zweygardt, Carter Graham, Cady Graham, Bentley Pfannenstiel, and Laney Pfannenstiel.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two brothers; Robert Ruder and LeRoy Ruder.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays with Fr. Barry Brinkman and Fr. Fred Gatschet officiating.  Burial will follow in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Pfeifer, KS.  Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 8:00 on Monday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Tuesday, all at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine Street, Hays.  A Perpetual Adorers rosary will be at 4:00 pm and a parish vigil service will be at 6:30, both on Monday at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested in Diana’s memory to Holy Cross Charities or to masses, in care of the funeral home.  Condolences may be left for the family at www.haysmemorial.com or via email at [email protected]

Kenneth F. Schmeidler

screen-shot-2017-03-04-at-7-09-37-pmKenneth F. Schmeidler, age 84, of Hays, passed away Thursday, March 2, 2017 at HaysMed. He was born February 28, 1933 in Severin, KS to Frank and Elizabeth (Windholz) Schmeidler. He graduated from St. Joseph’s Military Academy in 1951. On December 31, 1953 he married Elizabeth “Betty” Polifka at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hays.

Kenny was the Shop Foreman and Head Mechanic for Allied, where he worked for 41 years. He was a US Army veteran serving during the Korean conflict. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 3rd degree St. Joseph’s Council Knights of Columbus, Hays VFW, American Legion and the Cedar Bluff Lake Association.  As a member of St. Joseph’s Parish, he enjoyed attending daily mass and spent his early morning hours on daily prayers and devotions.  Kenny enjoyed welding and metalwork, gardening, camping, and traveling, especially cruises; but above all he enjoyed carrying on the German traditions of his heritage and being an integral part of celebrations with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Betty of Hays; a daughter, Carla DeRemer of Muskegon, MI; a daughter-in-law, Bev Schmeidler of Hays; a son-in-law, Stew Cresse of Muskegon; seven grandchildren, Regina Butel (Dominic) of Lee’s Summit, MO, Emily Gross of Lenexa, KS, Megan Frownfelter (Keenan) of Elkhart, KS, Molly Schmeidler and Macks Schmeidler both of Kansas City, MO, Katie DeRemer and Jake DeRemer both of Muskegon; two step grandchildren, Adam Cresse (Jen) of Aurora, IL and Kelly Alikhan (Aadam) of Danville, IL; as well a 6 great grandchildren.    He will be dearly missed by his couch-mate, Schnickelfritz (Schniggie).

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Beth Cresse; a son, Steve Schmeidler; his parents and 11 brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be 10 AM Monday, March 6, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hays. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery with Military Honors courtesy of the Hays VFW Honor Guard.

Visitation will be Sunday 4 PM – 8 PM and Monday 9 AM – 9:30 AM all at Brock’s-Keithley Funeral Chapel and Crematory 2509 Vine Hays, KS 67601.

A St. Joseph’s council 3rd degree Knights of Columbus rosary will be Sunday at 6:30 PM followed by a parish vigil at 7 PM.

Gilbert Von Lintel

gilbert-vonlintel-pictureHays, Kansas – Gilbert Von Lintel, age 89, died Thursday, March 2, 2017, at the Good Samaritan Society of Hays.
He was born September 4, 1927 in Walker, Kansas, to Henry and Clementine (Dreher) Von Lintel.

He married Vera Mae (Stang) on October 27, 1951 in Victoria, Kansas. She died March 26, 2005.

He was a veteran of the U S Marines and served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays, Kansas. Gilbert graduated from Victoria High School in 1947. After the war he returned to Walker to farm, in 1960 he and Vera moved to Victoria, although he continued to farm, his day job was construction.

He worked for Hunter Construction, Pierce and Schippers Construction and Allied Construction. He was proud of his contribution to the construction of many buildings on the FHSU campus including Gross Memorial Coliseum, and Forsyth Library, he also built most of the buildings on the Barton County Community College and well as St. Anthony Hospital in Hays. He retired in 1991, and he loved his family and we loved him. We enjoyed listening to his stories about the Walker Airbase and being a member of a large family and life “in the olden days”. He loved gardening, playing pinochle and doing word search puzzles.

Survivors include one son, Glenn Von Lintel, Mesa, AZ; one daughter, Gail Brack and husband, Mark, Ellis, KS; five grandchildren, Brittany McCoy (Michael), Aaron Von Lintel (Kayla), Sarah Dreiling (Joe), Todd Walker, Christy Schoenthaler (Devin); five great grandchildren, Michael and Miles McCoy, Elizabeth, Eli and Emmitt Dreiling; one brother, Otto Von Lintel and wife, Rita, Hays, KS; two sisters, Catherine Pfannenstiel, Hays, KS; Joanna Murta, St. Charles, MO; one, brother-in-law, Ernest Wolf, Hays, KS: one sister-in-law, Blanche Von Lintel, Hays, KS.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a son-in-law, Jerry L. Walker; twin girls, Mary and Ann Von Lintel; two brothers, Lawrence and Norbert Von Lintel; a sister, Venita Wolf; two half-brothers, Bernard and Linus Von Lintel; seven half-sisters, Angela Richmeier, Appoliona “Lonie” Huser, Agnes Brungardt, Thecla Brungardt, Mary Rohleder, Regina Brungardt and Sophie Stecklein; three step-sisters, Anna (Hertel) Werth, Josephine (Hertel) Leiker and Elizabeth (Hertel) Schmidtberger.

Services will be at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays, Kansas later this spring and Inurnment will be in St. Fidelis Cemetery Victoria, Kansas with Military Honors.

Eugene George K. Schoeppel

Eugene George K. Schoeppel, age 90, died March 1, 2017 at the Trego County Lempke Memorial Hospital.  He was born on October 15, 1926 in Ransom the son of Peter Frank and Magdalene Lauber Kreutzer.  His parents died while he was young and he was raised, and later adopted in September 1952 by John Raymond and Dr. Ida Haug Schoeppel.

Gene was a farmer and stockman, a member of the St. Aloysius Church in Ransom and a member of the Brownell American Legion. He was a veteran of the US Air Force having served during the Korean War.

On October 8, 1955, he married Clara Mae Tobias in El Reno, Oklahoma. She survives.

Other survivors include his daughter, Annie McDaniel and his grandson, Nathan McDaniel, both of Ransom.  He was preceded in death by six brothers, Alexander, Simon Peter, Rubert, Theodore, Leonard Joseph, and Victor William and four sisters, Beata Magdolene, Theresia Louise, Mary, and Rose Marie.

Gene’s funeral service will be on Monday, March 6, 2017, 2:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City with burial in the Ransom Cemetery.

Viewing will be on Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Monday prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorial contribution may be given to the Trego County Lempke Memorial Hospital and the Trego County Historical Society.

Arlene (Linden) Heroneme Rupp

She was born April 19, 1932 in New Almelo, Kansas to Arnold and Veronica (Nusse) Linden. She attended country schools in rural lane county and she graduated from Mt. St. Scolastica High School in Atchison, Kansas. On August 8, 1950, she married William H. “Billy” Heroneme in Zurich, Kansas. He preceded her in death August 30, 1990. On November 26, 1993, she married John H. Rupp in Zurich.

Arlene was a homemaker and farmwife. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella as well as numerous civic organizations in Rooks and Ellis county. She was also a well-known seamstress specializing in wedding and bride’s maid dresses.

She is survived by her husband, John H. Rupp of Ellis; two sons, William G. (Diann) Heroneme of Independence, MO, Thomas L. (Colleen) Heroneme of Whitewater, KS; two daughters, Denise D, (George) Dresie of Salina, KS and Karla K. (Michael) Stallings of Three Rivers, Massachusetts; a step son, Steve (Joann) Rupp of Colorado Springs, Colorado; three step daughters, Marilyn (Steve) Kroeger, Paulette (Greg) Kroeger and Ann (Doug) Kroeger all of Ellis; a brother, Maurice Linden of Dighton, KS; four sisters, Carolyn Roth of Dighton, Emily Schmalzried of Dighton, Claudia Reidlinger of Montgomery, TX and Yvonne Kraus of Dighton; 4 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 8 step grandchildren and 7 step great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Arnie and Cyril Linden.

Funeral services will be 10 AM Saturday, March 4, 2017 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellis. Burial will be at 1:30 PM Saturday in St. Ann’s Cemetery in Zurich, Kansas.

Visitation will be Friday 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM with a combined Daughters of Isabella rosary and parish vigil service at 7:00 PM all at St. Mary’s Church, Ellis.

Anna Marie Bennett

Anna Marie Bennett, age 65, passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at the St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas.

She was born on March 11, 1951 in Dodge City, Kansas, the daughter of Richard and Rowena Owston Wines. She was a resident of Scott City, Kansas, since 1981 moving from Dodge City, Kansas, she was a retail clerk and homemaker.

She is survived by Two Sons – Scott Bennett of Scott City, Kansas and Shane Bennett of Hutchinson, Kansas; One Daughter – Wendy Bennett Kaiser of New Braunsfield, Texas; Eight Grandchildren; and Four Great Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her Parents and Two Brothers.

A memorial service will be held at a later date and time.

Carley M. Day

She was born April 4, 1934, at Prague, Okla., the daughter of Charles E. and Helen (Coleman) Smith. She married Edwin Harold Day June 20, 1952, at Prague, Okla. He died Aug. 9, 2010. A Great Bend resident since 1954, coming from Stillwater, Okla., Mrs. Day was the long-time manager of Howard’s Apparel.

Mrs. Day was a member of Central Baptist Church and an active member of the American Baptist Women’s Group.

Survivors include one son, Michael Day and his wife Joan of Pratt; son-in-law, Edd Jackson of Great Bend; three brothers, Bob Smith and his wife Regina, Jerry Smith and his wife Sharon and Sam Smith and his wife Linda, all of Prague, Okla; three sisters, Joyce Ellison and her husband Gene, Frances Simek and her husband T. J. and Sue Schima, all of Prague; five grandchildren, Chris Short and his wife Jennifer of Andover, Daylin Short of Lakewood, Colo., Jeff Jackson and his wife Alexandra of Olpe, Amanda Day of Hays, and Shanda Day of Wichita; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Pamela Jackson, and two sisters, Mary Ann Gregory and Mindy Calger.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 4, 2017, at Central Baptist Church in Great Bend, with the Rev. David Walters and Pastor John Grummon officiating. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, March 3, 2017, at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials have been established with Central Baptist Church, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
