Janice Marie (Richmeier) Nusser

screen-shot-2017-02-22-at-8-21-18-amJanice Marie (Richmeier) Nusser, age 57, passed away on Feb. 17, 2017 at the Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita, KS.

She was born on June 23, 1959 at Hoxie, KS, the daughter of E. J. (Elmer) and Mary Jean (Aich) Richmeier.

Janice was a Medical Receptionist for the Stafford County Health Department, St. John, KS. She graduated from St. John High School in 1977, attended the Sydney Hairdressing College and was a resident of St. John, KS since 1975. Her memberships include, St. John The Apostle Catholic Church and Altar Society. On Nov. 19, 1977 she married Phillip E. Nusser at St. John, KS, he survives.

Other survivors include both parents of Shell Knob, MO; two sons, Jeremy W. Nusser, Wichita, KS, Justin L. Nusser, Stafford, KS; a brother Glenn Richmeier (Jennifer), Tampa Bay, FL; two sisters, Brenda Rose & fiancée Danny Spain, Edwards, MO, Lisa Bascue (Brad), Olathe, KS; brother-in-law, Kelly Nusser (Beth), Lyons, KS; sister-in-law, Lori Nusser, St. John, KS; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Gary Lee and Fred Joseph Richmeier. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at St. John The Apostle Catholic Church, St. John, KS with Father Michael Klag presiding. Vigil service will be 7:00 PM, Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at the church.

Dorothy F. Brandfas

screen-shot-2017-02-22-at-8-09-04-amDorothy F. Brandfas, age 92, passed away on Friday, February 17, 2017 at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 6, 1924 in Arapahoe, Colorado, the daughter of Bryan and Toy Hunter.

At the age of 21, Dorothy moved to Scott City, Kansas where she and a friend became the first nurse aides at the Scott County Hospital.

Memberships include the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary of Scott City, Kansas and First Christian Church of Scott City, Kansas.

On March 7, 1945 she married Ernest L. Brandfas in Garden City, Kansas. He passed away on June 15, 2008 in Bentonville, Arkansas.

Survivors Include her One Son – Richard & Regina Brandfas of Rogers, Arkansas, One Daughter – Judy & Donnie Morris of Rogers, Arkansas, Two Brothers – Lawrence Hunter of Montrose, Colorado, Charles Hunter of Montrose, Colorado, One Sister – Hazel Pool of Lamar, Colorado, Seven Grandchildren – Joseph Brandfas, Jai Morris, Shane Morris, Ty Morris, Sebrina Reed, Donette Johnson, Darin Morris, Twelve Great Grandchildren – Brandy, Brock, Joseph II, Damien, Tanner, Darian, Triston, Allison, Olivia, Micah, Clay, Jaxon and Six Great Great Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her Parents, husband, Two Brothers – Herold Hunter, & Leo Hunter and One Sister – Mary Matusic.

Funeral Service will be held First Christian Church in Scott City, Kansas at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 24, 2017 with Steve Payne presiding.

Interment will be in the Scott County Cemetery in Scott City, Kansas.

Memorials may be given to the First Christian Church in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home.

Visitation will be at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Scott City from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday.

Virginia Lee (Pfeifer) Jacobs

virginia-jacobs-photo-001 passed away on February 19, 2017, after several battles with cancer. Her husband, son, and daughter were honored to care for her at home the last six months of life. Each are incredibly thankful and humbled not only by the experience of caring for her, but also the love, authenticity, sincerity, faithful devotion, and gratitude she showed with a smile each and every day throughout her battle.

Virginia was born June 13, 1936, to Peter and Rosa (Liberto – birth name; Kloppertanz – adopted name) Pfeifer of Hays, Kansas. She was the 12th child of 17 living children; 9 boys and 8 girls – all raised on a farm with an abundance of love and faith. Her smile and kindness was a light to all; she lived by her Mother’s motto of “Smile and the world will smile with you!”

In 1950, she was called to the Community of the Sisters of St. Agnes in Fond du lac, Wisconsin. She vowed to devote her time to the church, mission work, and the service of others. In 1968 she was called to continue her service to care for her elderly, ill parents. She returned to Hays, Kansas, was employed with Baxter Travenol, and with the help of her sisters (Sr. Julia and AnnaMary), Peter and Rosa were cared for with the same love they had given their children until they passed away (Peter – 1980; Rosa – 1982). In 1972, Virginia was called to take the vow of marriage to James A. Jacobs of Hays, Kansas. After Travenol relocated out of state, she became a rehabilitation and home health caregiver, which she continued over 45 years. Her lifetime of service also included being an avid volunteer and servant within the community and member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.

Survivors include her husband James; a son, Franciscus Wolfgang; a daughter, Dr. Clarine Magdalena; and a granddaughter, Daniella. Additional survivors include one brother, Herbert Pfeifer and wife Henrietta of Ohio as well as five sisters: Sr. Julia Pfeifer C.S.A. of Wisconsin, Ritha Linenberger of Colorado, Twila and husband Harold Smith of Kansas, Clarine and husband Jim Baker of Indiana, and Doloris and husband Ralph Peterson of Kansas. In-law survivors include Sandy, Velma, Betty, JoAnn, and Nita.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Peter and Rosa Pfeifer; Sr. Alma Rose Pfeifer C.S.A.; Anna Mary and husband Alvin Fisher; brother-in-law Kenneth Linenberger (husband of Ritha); Eugene Pfeifer; Floyd Pfeifer; Gerald Pfeifer; James Pfeifer; Julius Pfeifer and wife Rosie; Paul Pfeifer; Gilbert Pfeifer; and Al Pfeifer and first wife Edna.

A celebration of her life and service to others will be at the following Hays, Kansas locations:  Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 1805 Vine Street.  Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 8:00 on Friday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Saturday, all at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine Street.  A rosary will be at 6:00 pm on Friday at the funeral home.

Lois Lee LaRue

lois-larue-photograph-001Lois Lee LaRue, 53, Hays, died Monday, February 20, 2017 at her home.

She was born May 31, 1963 in Russell, Kansas the daughter of Harold and Mary Alice (Fleming) Craven.  On September 22, 1985 she was united in marriage to David “Moose” LaRue in Hays. He preceded her in death on December 21, 2010.

Lois was an LPN nurse for many years at Hays Good Samaritan Center.  She enjoyed cooking, going to the lake, and listening to music; but what she enjoyed most was spending time with her kids and her dog, Scamper.

She is survived by her mother, Mary Alice of Hays, two sons; Chad LaRue of Salina, and Jeremy LaRue and wife Kendra of Hays, two brothers; David Craven and wife Rosalyn and Mike Craven and wife Darla, all of Hays; mother-in-Law, Audrey LaRue of Hays, and her beloved dog Scamper.

She is preceded in death by her father, Harold, her husband, David, and her father-in-law, Paul D. LaRue.

A celebration of Lois’ life will be at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church, 2900 Hall Street, Hays, with Pastor Will Haworth and Pastor Celeste Lasich officiating.  Visitation will be from 1:30 pm until service time on Saturday at the church.  Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Hays Medical Center and St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and may be sent in care of Hays Memorial Chapel, 1906 Pine St. Hays, KS 67601.  Condolences may be left for the family at www.haysmemorial.com.

Ilene M. Ochsner

Ilene M. Ochsner, age 90, passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Greeley County Hospital in Tribune, Kansas. Born Ilene Maurine Felzien March 16, 1926 in St. Francis, Kansas, the daughter of Edwin & Eva (Burr) Felzien, she had been a Greeley County resident since 1951. She was a farm/ranch wife and homemaker.

Ilene was a member of the former St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tribune, Kansas. She was also a founding member of the Greeley County V.F.W. Auxiliary in Tribune. She held several state and national offices of the V.F.W. Auxiliary and was a former director of the Ben-Gay Band.

On February 6, 1949 she married Garfield W. Ochsner in St. Francis, Kansas. Garfield passed away on November 20, 1984 in Tribune, Kansas.

Ilene’s surviving family includes-

Dolores Mermis, 80, of Russell, Kansas, died on Saturday, February 18, 2017, at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha, Kansas.

The funeral mass celebration of Dolores’ life will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at St. Mary’s Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Russell, Kansas. Harry R. Dreiling

He was born March 25, 1937 in Ellis, Kansas to Richard and Barbara (Pfeifer) Dreiling. He married Frances Werth September 26, 1959. She preceded him in death January 5, 1987. On August 31, 1990 he married Deborah Trzicky in Hays.

Harry was the owner operator of Harry’s Drywall starting in 1976. He was a US Army veteran serving from 1956 – 1959 stationed in Germany. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church where he served as an usher for 50 years and a member of F.O.E. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, casino trips and being with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah of Hays; his son, Jerome Dreiling of Hays; a daughter, Virginia Mae Basgall (Steve) of Hays; a brother, Clarence Dreiling (Diann) of Hays; a step daughter, Melissa Largent of Tennessee; four grandchildren, MaRyan, Kendrick, Braden and Gage; two great grandchildren, Parker and Airalia; a step grandchild, Megan and two step great grandchildren, Daniel and Andrew.

He was preceded in death by two infant children, JoAnn and Harry Jr, a daughter, JoAnn Phillips; brothers, Arthur, LeRoy and Ralph and a sister, Betty Madison.

Funeral services will be 10 AM Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Hays with military honors courtesy of the Hays VFW and the Hays Legion Riders.

Visitation will be Tuesday 4 PM – 8 PM and Wednesday 9 AM – 9:30 AM at Brock’s-Keithley Funeral Chapel and Crematory 2509 Vine Hays, KS 67601.

Ella M. Vogel

Phillipsburg resident Ella M. Vogel, passed away Feb. 19 at the Logan Manor Nursing Home in Logan at the age of 96. She was born January 5, 1921 in Phillips County, the daughter of Leonard & Fredia (Ehm) Vogel.

Survivors include her sister, Berniece Wallgren of Sherwood, AR; her sister-in-law Bonnie Vogel of Phillipsburg and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wed. Feb. 22 at 2:00 p.m. in the Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church , Stuttgart, with Pastor Lee Bennight officiating. Burial will follow in the Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9:00 to 5:00 Tuesday at the funeral home.

Dorothy A. Stanton

Phillipsburg resident Dorothy A. Stanton passed away Feb. 16, 2017 at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg at the age of 79.  She was born Oct. 6, 1937, the daughter of Harrel & Eva (Sutton) Paramore.  She worked at the First National Bank & Trust in Phillipsburg for many years.

Survivors include her husband Tony of the home; her son, Todd Stanton of Harrisburg, PA; her daughter, Deb Kennedy of Phillipsburg & 6 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 20 at 10:00 a.m. in the United Methodist Church, Phillipsburg, with Rev. Delbert Stanton & Rev. Lew VanDerWege officiating.  Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Logan.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 Sat. & 12:00 to 9:00 Sunday at the funeral home with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 7:00 Sunday evening.

Edith Shirley Bair

Former Goodland, Kansas, resident Edith Shirley Bair, 83, passed away on Monday, February 13, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Center in Ellis, Kansas.

Edith was born on August 10, 1933 in Cheyenne County, Kansas to Clifford Taft and Vera Carolina (Peter) Doggett.  She was one of five children.

Growing up in Kanorado, Kansas, Edith graduated from Kanorado High School in 1952.  Later on in life, she attended Fort Hays State University for three years.  On September 24, 1952, she married Johnny Warn Bair at the Kanorado United Methodist Church.  To this union, two children Dea and Steve were adopted.

Edith worked at several different places throughout her life; she was a manager for McDonalds and Wendy’s in Goodland.  She also worked at Dollars Days and one of the motels in the area for several years.  She was also a volunteer for the Senior Companion program at Fort Hays State University for eight years.  Most of all however, she worked as a homemaker taking care of her family.

In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, knitting, crossword puzzles, reading, cooking and a good game of cards.  Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death was her parents, her husband Johnny, son Steve Bair, sisters Relda, Irene, Barbara and a brother Eddie.

She is survived by her daughter Dea Binger of McCook, NE, five grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Edith will be held will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at 1:00 PM at the Koons-Russell Funeral Home in Goodland with Pastor Lyn Linde officiating.  Burial will follow in the Goodland Cemetery.

Marian M. (Kuhlman) Rajewski

marian_rajewski-paper-picture-1Vincent, Kansas – Marian M. (Kuhlman) Rajewski, age 87, died Thursday, February 16, 2017, at Sterling Presbyterian Manor, Sterling, Kansas.

   She was born March 30, 1929, on the family farm north of Olmitz, Kansas, to Ewald W. and Rose L. (Schwartz) Kuhlman.  She married James W. Rajewski on May 22, 1951, in Olmitz, Kansas. He died April 9, 2015.

   She was a homemaker, a farmer’s wife, a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, St. Boniface Christian Mothers, St. Fidelis Daughters of Isabella and Secular Franciscan Order. While at the Sterling Presbyterian Manor she attended the Church of the Holy Cross, Hutchinson.  She grew up in Albert and was a graduate of Great Bend High School.  She worked at the Albert State Bank before her marriage then lived on a farm south of Gorham for a few years and moved to the farm at Vincent in 1955.  She was the Sacristan at St. Boniface Catholic Church, a Eucharistic Minister and Lector.

She was a volunteer at the Victoria Meal Site, St. John’s Rest Home, funeral dinner committee and a CCD teacher  for St. Fidelis parish.  She was a bookkeeper for her husband’s seed company and served on the Ellis County Election Board for over 30 years.  She enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, her animals and painting in her later years.

   Survivors include four sons, John Rajewski and wife, Patricia, Lincoln, NE; Michael Rajewski and wife, Betty, Hutchinson, KS; Bob Rajewski, Vincent, KS; Bill Rajewski and wife, Susan, Vincent, KS; four daughters, Diane Martinez and husband John, McPherson, KS; Jane Rajewski and husband, Michael Frenzl, Hays, KS; Carolyn Rajewski and husband, Greg Zimmerman, Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan; Marie Schmidt and husband Andy, Olathe, KS; one brother, Francis Kuhlman and wife, Donna, Canyon Lake, CA; one sister, Joan Demel, Great Bend, KS; 23 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

   She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one grandson, Simon Rajewski and one granddaughter, Emily Rajewski.

   Services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, February 20, 2017, at The Basilica of St. Fidelis in Victoria, Kansas. Burial in St. Boniface Cemetery Vincent, Kansas.

   A vigil service will be at 6:30 P.M. Sunday, followed by Vincent Christian Mothers/Victoria Daughters of Isabella rosary all at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary, 412 Main Street, Victoria, Kansas 67671.

   Visitation is from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Sunday and from 8:30 to 9:45 A.M. Monday, all at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary Victoria, Kansas.
