John Wm. Jansonius

obit_placeholder dovePhillipsburg resident, John Wm. Jansonius, passed away Wednesday Feb. 15 at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg at the age of 79. He was born Oct. 23, 1937 in Phillips County, the son of William & Vivian Jansonius. He was a farmer.

Survivors include his wife Sallie of the home; 2 sons, Glenn Jansonius of Phillipsburg & Kurtis Wolfe of Hays; 2 daughters, Carol McGinnis of San Diego, CA & Kayla Kreller of Phillipsburg; his brother, Van of Albuquerque, NM; 2 sisters, Anita DeBoer of Phillipsburg and Georgia Brown of Topeka; 8 grandchildren & 4 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 20 at 2:00 p.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel with Pastor Aaron Rust officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon to 9:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the funeral home.

Marcelyn M. Herbig, 92, Hays, died Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at the Ellis Good Samaritan Society.

She was born November 24, 1924 in Woodston, Kansas the daughter of R.A. “Buck” and Byrdene “Trip” (Gager) Triplett. She was a 1941 graduate of Hays High School and attended Fort Hays State University. On September 13, 1943 she married William Henry “Heinie” Herbig in Seattle, Washington. He preceded her in death on July 13, 2002.

Her career involved working at Walker Air Base, as a secretary at USD #489 working in Lincoln, Washington, and Wilson schools, at the Ellis County Teachers Credit Union, and at High Plains Mental Health Center from 1965 until her retirement in 1993. She loved her work and was a people person who enjoyed helping others. She also enjoyed cooking and baking, gardening, camping, and attending her grandchildren’s events and functions. Her house was her palace and she loved her friends and family dearly.

Survivors include a son; Mark Herbig of Hays, a daughter; Terri Riggs of Hays, a son-in-law; Alan Hayes of Wyoming, a sister-in-law; Ann Triplett of Missouri, eight grandchildren; Scott, Stacie, Melissa, Dusty, Shana, Laura, Kelly, and Cory, eleven great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Heinie, a daughter Sandra “Sandy” Hayes, a granddaughter Richelle Herbig, a brother Merlin “Bud” Triplett, and a son-in-law Richard “Dick” Riggs.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 pm on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine Street. Burial will follow in the Mt. Allen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 7:00 on Friday and from 2:00 pm until service time on Saturday, all at the funeral home. Terry Dee Enright

screen-shot-2017-02-16-at-9-44-39-amTerry Dee Enright, 67, of Longmont, died February 12, 2017 at Medical Center of the Rockies after a tragic car accident.

He was born February 22, 1949 in Great Bend, Kansas the son of Sylvia (Plymire) and Harry Enright. Terry graduated from Hays High School in Hays, KS. Following his graduation, he attended Kansas State University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1972. Terry’s work career started as a construction engineer in commercial real estate development and chemical construction facilities.

On April 14, 1979, Terry married Carol Engel in Liberal, Kansas after meeting in New York City. In 1980, he and Carol moved to Denver where Terry entered the oil and gas industry as a petroleum engineer for Tri-Ex Oil and Gas. Terry and Carol founded Enright Gas & Oil to develop oil and gas projects in Kansas, Montana, and Colorado. They lived in Evergreen and Boulder until 1992 when they moved to a farm near Hygiene. In 2005, he went to work for Kerr-McGee and later Anadarko Petroleum where he worked as a Landman to develop oil and gas in the Wattenberg field in Colorado.

Terry had a strong Christian faith and attended LifeBridge Christian and Flatirons Community Church. He was a charter member of Mead Rotary Club where he was engaged with Rotary Youth Leadership Awards. He educated youth through Junior Achievement programs and served on the advisory boards for ‘Touching Hearts through Athletics’ and ‘Partners Mentoring Youth’ in Weld County. Terry was passionate about work and his family. In his free time, Terry enjoyed athletics and excelled in many sports. He was an active golfer and appreciated skiing the mountains with his family.

He is survived by his wife Dr. Carol Engel-Enright of Longmont, his children Dr. Tarra Deiter-Enright of Denver, Dane Enright (Alexandra Rossi) of Denver, Tess Enright of Denver, Dora Michniok (Nicholas) of Denver, Carl Enright (Alexandra Morrison) of Edmond, OK and Terrance Ault (Susan) of Austin, TX. He is further survived by his grandchildren Christopher and Lauren; his brothers Randy Enright (Linda) of Denver and Monty Enright (Peggy) of Manhattan, KS and his sister Kathy Enright of Palm Springs, CA. There are numerous nieces and nephews that also survive.

Services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at LifeBridge Christian Church in Longmont, CO. The family will receive visitors on Friday from 5 to 7 at Howe Funeral Home.

Loren L. Bahe

bahe-picLongtime Goodland, Kansas, resident Loren L. Bahe, 80, passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at the Goodland Regional Medical Center in Goodland.

Loren was born on September 16, 1936 in Republic County, Kansas to William Fredrick Christian and Nannie Katherine (Dankenbring) Bahe. He was one of four children. As a child, Loren’s family moved to Goodland where he attended school and graduated from Sherman County High School in 1954.

In 1954, Loren joined the United States Army and served from 1954 to 1956.

On July 15, 1956, Loren married Tamara Jean Flanders in Goodland at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church. To this union 2 children Mike and Kim were born. Loren worked most of his life as a farmer, raising wheat, corn and cattle. He also opened and operated 3 shoe stores (Bahe’s Footwear). During his spare time, Loren enjoyed spending time with family and his grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his loving wife Tamara, and one sister Denelda Tyrrell.

He is survived by his son Mike (Deneyce) Bahe of Goodland and his daughter Kim Bahe of Tulsa, Oklahoma; brother Wilmer (Peggy) Bahe and sister Opal VanDonge, all of Goodland. He is also survived by one grandson Jason (Brittinnee) Bahe and their children Hayden, Rilynn and Corbin, of Elfrida, Arizona.

Funeral services for Loren will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at 10:30 AM MT at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Goodland with Pastor Darian Hybl officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Goodland Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2017 from 9:00 to 10:30 AM MT at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church.

Elizabeth Ann ‘Betty’ Leiker

elizabeth-betty-leiker-001Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Leiker, 85, Hays, died Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at the Hays Medical Center.

She was born Elizabeth Ann Pfannenstiel on September 21, 1931 on the family farm west of Antonino, Kansas the daughter of Fidelis and Scholastica (Korbe) Pfannenstiel. She was the only girl from a family of six boys, her brothers Severin, Richard (died as a small child), Nick, Rich, Cyril, and Marvin. She attended Antonino Elementary and Good Hope Schools. On October 24, 1949 she married Norbert A. “Bert” Leiker, a construction operator and salvage metal dealer. Their son, James “Jim”, was born in 1962. After several years in Hays, her family returned to Antonino where she became active as a leader in the Good Hope 4-H club (which she attended as a child), teaching catechism, serving as treasurer for the local water district, and being active in the Christian Mothers of Our Lady Help of Christians parish. For many years, she tended the parish booth at Oktoberfest and made noodles, kuchen, and galuskies for the church’s annual fall feast. In 2000, she traveled with her son Jim to Paris and Rome and attended mass at St. Peter’s Basilica with Pope John Paul II. She moved to Wyndam Place, Hays, in 2012.

Survivors include her son; Dr. James Leiker and wife Cherie of Shawnee, Kansas, four sisters-in-law; Tillie Leiker and Alberta Pfannenstiel of Hays, Norma Fox of Golden, CO, and Thelma Pfannenstiel of Denver, more than sixty nieces and nephews, more than one hundred great nieces and nephews, and her many friends at Wyndam Place and in the Good Samaritan Home Health Care Society.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, and her husband Bert, who passed away in 1995.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church in Antonino with Fr. Gilmary Tallman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 8:00 on Friday and from 9:00 am until 9:30 Saturday, all at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine Street. An Antonino Christian Mothers rosary will be at 6:30 pm followed by a vigil service at 7:00, both on Friday at the funeral home. Jeanette (Dechant) Misegadis

screen-shot-2017-02-15-at-7-58-14-amJeanette (Dechant) Misegadis, age 71, of Peyton, Colorado formerly of Hays, passed away Saturday, February 11, 2017, in Colorado Springs, CO.   She was born April 8, 1945, in Hays, Kansas to Cornel and Ursula (Legleiter) Dechant.  She graduated in 1963, from Schoenchen High and attended Beauty School in Hays.  The following year, she married Melvin J. Gabel and shortly thereafter opened her own beauty salon, Fashion Flair in Hays which she operated for over 10 years.  She was a homemaker, loving mother and grandmother, and a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish for many years.  Later, she worked for Wal-Mart in Garden City, KS and Phoenix, AZ.

On April 26, 2011, she married Dennis Misegadis in Colorado Springs, CO.

She enjoyed dancing, music, crafting and gardening.  She loved the mountains, car races, and rescuing animals.

She is survived by her husband, Dennis of Peyton, Colorado; her three children from her first marriage to Melvin J. Gabel of Salina, KS; Ursula Gabel Baird and husband Kevin, Los Angeles, CA, Cory Gabel and wife Donna, and grandchildren Kiera and Max, Simsbury, CT, Jessica Gabel Cino and husband Ryan, Atlanta, GA; siblings, Virgil Dechant and wife Ann, Leawood, KS, Harry E. Dechant, Hays, Peggy Norris, Russell, Rosie Giesick, WaKeeney.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Emerald, LaVerne and Donnie Dechant and four sisters, Bernice Shaffer, Annie Meder, Delores Dechant and Carol Werth.

Funeral services will be 10 AM Saturday, February 18, 2017, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Hays. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Larry Michael Nicholson

He was born Nov. 22, 1941 in Nevada, Missouri, to Nina Potter Nicholson and Lee Nicholson. He married Celia Eveleigh July 26, 1964 in Hoisington, Kansas.

After graduating high school in Hoisington, KS he earned a Bachelor’s degree and a Ph.D. from Kansas State University. He took his first job as a biochemistry professor at University of Missouri-Rolla before coming to Fort Hays State University, where he served on the faculty from 1976 until his retirement in 2008. He served as the Chair of the Chemistry Department from 1988 to 2001.

Larry was a member of the Kansas State Alumni Association, Lions Club of Hays, Kansas, Hoisington Masonic Lodge #331, Hoisington, Beta Theta Pi Fraternity, the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, and the American Chemical Society. He loved to travel, read, and spend time with family.

He is survived by his wife Celia of Hays, Kansas; son, Eric Nicholson and wife Tracy of Ames, Iowa; daughter, Jill Nicholson-Crotty and husband Sean of Bloomington, Indiana; brother, Bill and wife Pattie of Hoisington, Kansas; and four grandchildren, Jordan, Noah, Finn, and Iris.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Nina Nicholson, and an infant sister, Kay Nicholson.

Friends may call 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home. Dale Lynn Samuelson

Dale Lynn Samuelson, age 67, of Oakley, passed away Sunday, February 12 2017, at Nebraska Medicine, in Omaha, Nebraska. He was born January 4, 1950, in Colby, to Floyd and Pearl (Scholl) Samuelson. He was an Oakley High School teacher and wrestling coach.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Pearl Samuelson.

Survivors include his wife Lorraine of the home, his sons: Tyler Samuelson (Patty) of Olathe, and Barry (Sarah) of Oakley; sister, Gayla (Larry) Berkgren of Oakley, two brothers: Harley Samuelson of McPherson, and Tim Samuelson of Oakley; and eight grandchildren.

Clara Louise Dubbs

She attended Ransom schools, and graduated from Kansas State, Manhattan, in 1946 with a bachelor’s degree.

She then graduated from Wichita State University with a master in occupational therapy and worked many years in the field.

She loved to travel and she visited most if not all of the 50 states, Europe, Mexico, Ecuador, Paraguay, New Zealand, Fiji, etc.

She faithfully attended the Ransom Mennonite church, and was a philanthropist giving to many noble causes.

She was a loving aunt and sister and she loved to visit her sister Florence, her nephews Leon and Dale, Leon’s wife Salome,
and her great nieces and nephews, Christian, Amy, Jessica Sander and Siena.

She is survived by her sister Florence Roat, her nephew and niece Leon and Salome Roat, and nephew Dale Roat (all of San Jose, California), and her great nieces and nephews Christian Roat, Amy Roat, Jessica Roat, Siena Roat Shumway, and Sander Roat Shumway.

She is now resting in the arms of her Heavenly Father, and his Son Jesus, and we will miss her greatly forever, until we see her again.

Memorial service will be held at Sunday, February 19, 2017, 2:00 p.m. at the First Mennonite Church, Ransom with inurnment in the Ransom Cemetery.
