Harley E. Bos

screen-shot-2016-11-09-at-10-19-57-amHarley E. Bos passed away on October 22, 2016 at his home at the age of 88. He was born & raised in Smith County near Dispatch, KS. He attended school in Downs through his freshman year. His family moved to Osborne & he attended Osborne High School his sophomore year. At the end of his sophomore year, Harley joined the U. S. Navy and served from 1944 – 1947.

After Harley was honorably discharged from the Navy, he returned to Osborne. He met and married Neva Swank. To this union, 5 children were born.

Harley worked nights at Barbers Bakery. Some other places of employment were, a heavy equipment operator helping build the Kirwin Dam, Hardman Lumber as a truck driver, a lineman for the City of Osborne and other jobs. He eventually came to own and operate the Hinkle Termite Control that had been founded by Charlie Hinkle.

Harley enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping throughout his life. He was a hard working, outdoor loving, Christian family man.

Harley was precede in death by his parents; wife, Neva; sisters: Onita Bos Jemison and Joyce Bos Wickers; brothers: Ivan Bos and Duane Bos; grandson, Earl Bedford. He is survived by daughters: Diana Marshall of Osborne; Paula (Tony) Micone of Osborne; Rita (Kevin) Strecker of Arkansas City, KS; Sharon (Bob) Romero of Tucson, Arizona; sons: Dennis (Noodang) Bos of Luray, KS; David (Paula) Bos of Weeki Wachi, Florida; 25 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.

Terence L. ‘Big Terry’ Redetzke

terry-redetzke-obit-photoTerence L. “Big Terry” Redetzke, 62, died November 7, 2016, at Kansas University Medical Center, Kansas City.  He was born July 12, 1954, in Hoisington, Kansas, the son of Clarence and Martha (Hawes) Redetzke.  Terry was a 1972 graduate of Hoisington High School.

A lifelong Hoisington area resident, Terry was a truck driver and the owner of TP Inc. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and a lifetime member of OOIDA, Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association.
On October 30, 1976, he married Pamela J. Harrison in Great Bend, Kansas.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Pamela Redetzke; children, Tanna Vine and husband Dustin of Ellis, Terry Redetzke and wife Sandy of Ellis, and Amanda Redetzke of Overland Park; siblings, Cathy Kruhm and husband Burt of Littleton, CO, Linda Rubio and husband Martin of Hoisington, Greg Redetzke of Hoisington, and Carol Redetzke of Great Bend; father-in law, William Harrison of Cedarville, AR; brother-in-law, Shane Harrison of Overland Park; and six grandchildren, Maleah, Westin, and Myles Vine, and Grace, Sydney, and Carter Redetzke.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Leo & Cecelia Redetzke; mother-in-law, Shirley Harrison; brothers-in-law, Clay and Lance Harrison; and his beloved dog and best friend, Jake.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 11, 2016, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, celebrated by Father Anselm Eke.  Burial will follow in St. John Catholic Cemetery.

Loren N. Hillman

Memorial service will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 19, 2016 at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney. There will be no visitation as cremation was chosen.

Leslie Richard ‘Les’ Graf

oi911606175_lessgrafLeslie Richard “Les” Graf, age 71 of Cambridge, Neb., passed away at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital on Saturday November 5, 2016. He was born in Hays Kansas on February 3, 1945 to Richard and Irene (Pfannenstiel) Graf. The family moved to Nebraska and Les attended and graduated from Holbrook High School in 1963. He attended Fort Hays College at Hays, Kansas, for 2 years.

Les served his country in the National Guard in the ’60s.

Less Was married to Patricia (Gottschalk) Green and to this union two children were born: Danielle and Anthony. On November 29, 1996, Les was united in marriage to Nenita (Rozano) Hogan in Gatlinburg, TN.

Les was employed by the Eaton Corporation for over 30 working at the last as a customer service representative. Les retired from the company in 2006 in Battle Creek, Michigan. He and his wife Nenita returned to his State of Nebraska, retiring in Cambridge.

Les loved to tinker in his shop, from fixing cars, bikes and anything that friends would give him as a challenge. He enjoyed morning coffee with friend, discussing anything and everything. Less loved to hunt and fish, he had a passion for firearms and guns. He bought a motorcycle and road around town. He and Nenita traveled to Florida, Louisiana and as far west as California.

Les is preceded in death by his parents; one son Anthony that died in infancy.

He is survived by his wife Nenita of Cambridge; daughter: Danielle Jones of Castle Rock Colorado; 3 step children: Pamela (David) Gregory of Syracuse, IN; Elizabeth (Adam) Kabala of Oglala, FL Eileen Hogan of San Diego, CA; 2 grandchildren: Dash and Sophia; 5 step-grandchildren: Daisey; Bryanna; Lila; Solomon; Rory; brother Delbert and wife Kathy Graf of Columbus, OH.

Rosary will be recited at 1:30 PM on Saturday, November 12, 2016 prior to the Funeral Mass at 2:00 pm AT St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Cambridge, NE with Father Ken Werer officiating. Inurnment will be in the St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Cambridge. Friends may leave on line condolences at Lockenour.com. Sharon Faye Schuetz

3998397Sharon Faye Schuetz was born February 9, 1941, in Oberlin, Kansas, to Robert John Drury and Edna Faye (Peters) Rush. She passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, November 4, 2016, at the age of 75.

Sharon and her three siblings were raised on the family farm northeast of Oberlin. She attended Vallonia country school and graduated from Decatur Community High School in 1959.

On November 26, 1960, Sharon was united in marriage to Jerry V. Schuetz in Oberlin. They began married life in Oberlin then resided in Columbus, Abilene and Grainfield before returning home to Oberlin. Sharon was a very loving and devoted wife, mother of four daughters, grandmother of four grandsons, sister and friend to many. She took a lot of pride in her family and providing a good home for them while her daughters were growing up. In addition, Sharon worked for Custom Trophy and Engraving as an engraver for many years. Her grandsons held a very special place in her heart, and she enjoyed spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry of the home; two daughters and their husbands, Kathy and Stephen Campbell of Aurora, CO, and Lisa and Rick Johnson of Salina; a brother, Vyrl “Pete” Rush of Colorado Springs, CO; one sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Elmer Lawver of Colby; four grandsons, Joshua Campbell and Ian, Nash and Levi Johnson; nephews and nieces; other family members and friends. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Iva Marie and Janet Schuetz; and a brother, Lemoin Rush.

Jamie ‘Jay’ Dee Duff

Jamie was born to parents Jay Dee and Gloria K. “Katy” (Maupin) Duff on June 5, 1957 in Russell, Kansas.
His parents divorced and his mother married Stephen T. “Steve” Heinen in 1960.  The family lived in Osborne, Kansas and later moved to Russell in 1971, where Jamie attended and graduated from Russell High School.  Jamie left Russell and lived in several different states including Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Florida.  While in Pennsylvania he met, fell in love with and married Sandra Harter Shade.  He and Sandra had one son together, Elijah.

Surviving family include his mother Katy Herrman (Raymond) of Russell, Kansas; son, Elijah Loren Duff of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; brother, Stephen g. Heinen of Wichita, Kansas; two sisters, Gwenda Kay Radcliffe (Keith) of Meadows Place, Texas and Susanne Yarmer (Verlin) of Russell, Kansas; three nieces, Tina Rye, Kayla Jones (Chris), and Jennie Heinen; four nephews, Craig White, Justin White, Stephen G. II and John Heinen; one grand-niece and three grand-nephews; an uncle, aunts and cousins.

Jamie was preceded in death by his grandfather, Leland Maupin; step-father Steve Heinen; grandmother Ruby (Wallace) Maupin Keller; and father Jay Dee Duff.

A Celebration of Jamie’s Life will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, November 12, 2016 at St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church of Russell.  A private burial of ashes will take place at a later date.  The family will be available to greet friends from 9:00 AM to Service time at the Church.  Memorials may be made to Daystar Life Center of St. Petersburg.  Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, who is in charge of these arrangements.

Frederick Richard Boxberger

Fred was born February 14, 1927 to Frederick and Katherine (Ebel) Boxberger at the family farm west of Russell. He married Viola Schmitt Dufey. She preceded him in death. On April 7, 2000, he was married to Melva Kaufman at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wilson, Kansas.

Fred is survived by his wife Melva of Russell, Kansas; brother, Robert Boxberger of Russell, Kansas; four step daughters, Sharilyn Wilhelm (Don) of Wilson, Kansas, Carla Soukup of Dorrance, Kansas, LeAnne Hlaus (Frank) and Brenda Buehler (Wes) all of Wilson, Kansas; four grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; three nephews including Steve Boxberger (Coleen) and Perry Boxberger (Kris) all of Russell, Kansas; six nieces; and numerous great nephews and nieces including Jacob Boxberger (Marie) and Blake Boxberger.

Fred was a life member of the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240 and the Russell American Legion Post #99. Fred served in the Korean War from 1950 to 1956. He was also a member of the Russell Elks Lodge and was involved with the German’s from Russia. He was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church and taught Sunday school for 23 years and served on the Church Council and various committees.

Fred was a retired farmer and rancher. After Fred and Melva married, they lived on the family farm and enjoyed traveling until they moved to Vintage Place in Russell in 2012.

Celebration of Fred’s Life will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at the St. John Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Russell where the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240 Honor Guard will conduct Military Rites. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell. A Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 PM Tuesday at the Mortuary.
A Memorial has been established with St. John Lutheran Church. Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.

Loren N. Hillman, age 61, of WaKeeney, passed away November 4, 2016, at his sister’s home in Junction City.

John J. Kohl

John J. Kohl, age 81, passed away on Friday, November 4, 2016 at the Park Lane Nursing Home in Scott City, Kansas. He was born on January 22, 1935 in Marienthal, Kansas, the son of Frank and Elizabeth Berning Kohl. A lifetime resident of Marienthal, Kansas, he was a farmer.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Marienthal, Kansas.

On August 25, 1964 he married Carol Ann McLinn in Garden City, Kansas. She passed away on July 18, 1988 in Garden City, Kansas.

Survivors include his One Son – Curtis Kohl of Marienthal, Kansas, One Daughter – Jeanna & Scott Boddicker of Mesa, Arizona, Two Sisters – Marie Baker of Marienthal, Kansas and Tillie Hill of Lyman, Nebraska.

He was preceded in death by his Parents, Wife, Sister – Elizabeth Huffman and Three Infant Sisters – Anna, Johanna and Joanna Kohl.

Vigil Services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marienthal, Kansas.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 10, 2016 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marienthal, Kansas with Fr. Ben Martin presiding.

Memorials in Lieu of Flowers may be given to the St. Mary Catholic Church in Marienthal, Kansas in care of Price & Sons Funeral Homes.

Kathleen Kay Kanzenbach

She was born Jan. 27, 1942, in LeRoy, Minn., to Joseph Frank and Jeanette (Van De Brake) Cerny. She married Richard Charles Kanzenbach Sr. on Oct. 13, 1957, in Minnesota. He preceded her in death in 2012. She retired from Banquet Frozen Foods in Wells, Minn. and was there for more than 30 years. She was raised and attended school in Minnesota. She moved to Victoria in 2013.

Survivors include two sons, Richard Charles Kanzenbach Jr. and wife, Sheryl, Eden Prairie, Minn., and Jerry Kanzenbach and wife, Judy, Victoria; a daughter, Dawn M. McKenzie, 29 Palms, Calif.; two brothers, Andy Cerny, Washington, and Robert Cerny, Iowa; two sisters, Carol Cerny-Hester, California, and Janice Njos, Illinois; six grandchildren, Cassandra Kanzenbach, Amber Clark and husband, Chris, Zachary Kanzenbach and wife, Ashley, Courtney Kanzenbach, Kathleen McKenzie and Amanda McKenzie; and two great-grandchildren, Aubree Perez and Linkyn Kanzenbach.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son-in-law, Mac McKenzie; a brother, Steven Cerny ; and a sister, Joan Cerny.

Graveside inurnment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis later this month.

Brian S. Stohs

Visitation will be Wednesday, November 9, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, November 10 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, 1710 Jenkins Street, in Marysville.

Burial will be in the Marysville City Cemetery.

Survivors include his two sons, Bradon and Austin Stohs; mother, Lora Stohs, Marysville; brother, Greg (Sonya) Stohs, Marysville; and a niece and nephew.

He was preceded in death by his father, Herb.

Leroy Abraham ‘Chris’ Christopher

Leroy Abraham “Chris” Christopher died on November 1, 2016 at his home in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Born on January 27, 1916 in Trego County Kansas, to Clarence Abraham and Caroline Anna Marie “Lena” Christopher. His wife Lillian Isabelle Christopher and sister Catherine Rose “Katy” Bailey all preceded Chris in their deaths.

Chris attended Blossom County Primary School (one room) through 8th grade followed by attending Ellis High School located in Ellis, Kansas. It was there where he met his future wife, Lillian “Pic” Herbert. Chris often commented that she was the “prettiest, most beautiful, girl in Ellis High School”. Following High School Chris attended the University of Oklahoma, where he graduated with a degree in Petroleum Engineering.

Following college, Chris joined the Army Air Corps in 1941. During his time as an Army Officer he was stationed in Australia and New Guinea. Prior to the end of the war his persistence in requesting flight training finally came true. Chris completed training as a Captain of a B-17 bomber and later following the surrender of Germany, he was trained to fly B-29 bombers, fortunately the war ended prior to completion of this training. Chris was honorably discharged from the service in July of 1945.

Chris and his wife Lillian “Pic” were married on January 24, 1942. Following the end of the war they settled in Denver, Colorado where Chris started working for Stearns-Roger. After working for them for nine years, Chris decided to open his own business the L. A. Christopher Company, representing manufacturers in the petroleum industry. He successfully ran this company until he retired in 1979.

In 1950 they were blessed with a daughter, Ann M. Cameron, three years later they were blessed with a son, John D. Christopher. Other survivors include Grand Children and Great Grandchildren and close family members: Julie A. Mays and her husband Andy and two daughters — Molly and Morgan; James R. Cameron II and his wife Amber and two children — Savannah and Charlie; Christopher A. Cameron and his wife Monica and two children — Calen and Maya. Nieces: Cheryl Wagner; Cathy Bailey; Karen Hendrickson and her husband Dave and two sons, Jeremy and Christopher.

Final arrangements have been entrusted to Meyers Funeral Chapel, 1600 W. Main St, Blue Springs, MO. Graveside services will be held at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Ellis, Kansas starting at 1pm on Saturday, November 12, 2016. Friends and family are welcome. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, 2106 Vine Street, Hays, Kansas 67601.

Ralph C. Dreiling

ralph-c-dreilingRalph C. Dreiling, 85, Hays, died Friday, November 4, 2016 at his home.

He was born September 23, 1931 in Ellis the son of Richard and Barbara (Pfeifer) Dreiling. On January 21, 1952 he married Juanita A. Hoffman. She preceded him in death on July 27, 2015. He was an animal caretaker for 42 years at the Kansas State Agricultural Research Center in Hays. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and he loved to travel, work in his yard and spend time with his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include a son; Charlie “Chuck” Dreiling of Hays, a daughter; Billie Jean Hejny and husband Larry of Great Bend, Kansas, two granddaughters; Ginger Ann Howard and husband Michael of Cumming, GA and Jenna Lynn Dreiling and husband Brian of Great Bend, four great grandchildren; Carter and Cooper Dreiling and Addison and Carmen Howard, and two brothers; Harry Dreiling and wife Debra and Clarence Dreiling and wife Diann, all of Hays.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers; LeRoy Dreiling and Art Dreiling and a sister; Betty Madison.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 215 W. 13th, with Fr. Fred Gatschet officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 pm on Tuesday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Wednesday, all at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine. A parish vigil service will be at 7:00 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home.
