Donna M. Bradley

donna-bradley-001Donna M. Bradley, 90, Hays, died Sunday, October 23, 2016 at the Hays Good Samaritan Society.

She was born June 24, 1926 in Osborne, Kansas the daughter of Donald E. and Thelma L. (Smith) Putnam. She attended Gaylord and Portis schools and graduated from Osborne High School in 1944. She then received her teaching certificate from Fort Hays State University.

On May 20, 1946 she married Frank D. Bradley in Osborne, Kansas.  Donna was employed as a rural school teacher at Portis, Kansas, was a secretary at the University of Kansas and also at Kansas State University, and was a church secretary in Estes Park, Colorado. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hays, was a Sunday School Teacher, a church Deacon, and an Elder in the Lawrence and Oskaloosa churches.  She was very active in the Senior Companion Program.

Survivors include her husband Frank, of Hays, a son; Bruce Bradley and wife Yvonne of Aurora, NE, a brother; Arden Putnam of Downs, Kansas, and five grandchildren; Jennifer Kysar and husband Dan, Wade Albers, Sean Bradley, Rodney Bradley, and Christian Bradley, and a son-in-law Robert Albers of Albuquerque, NM.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter; Lynne Albers, a sister; Eugenia Perkins, and a brother; Galen Putnam.

A celebration of Donna’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, October 28, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church in Hays with Pastor Celeste Lasich officiating.  Private family burial will be at a later date in the Fort Hays Memorial Gardens Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until service time on Friday at the church.

Ella L. Griffin

screen-shot-2016-10-25-at-8-14-15-amElla L. Griffin, age 85, passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at Greeley County Long Term Care in Tribune, Kansas. Ella was born September 14, 1931 in Ashton, Kansas, the daughter of Harold Eugene & Georgia Elizabeth (Lawson) Kinlund. She was a farm wife and homemaker and had been a Greeley County resident since 1944 moving from Syracuse, Kansas.

Ella was a member of the United Methodist Church, Red Hat Society and the VFW Auxiliary. She was a lifetime member and served as a docent for the Greeley County Historical Society and was the 2016 recipient of the Farm Bureau Century Farm award for over 100 years of production.

On July 24, 1950 she married Lyle L. Griffin in Raton, New Mexico. Lyle passed away on July 11, 1995 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am (MST) Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at the United Methodist Church in Tribune, Kansas with Pastor Robert Selvakumra officiating. Burial will be in Greeley County Cemetery in Tribune, Kansas.

Friends may call from 1:00 pm until 8:00 pm Tuesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Tribune, Kansas.

Gladys Marie Brungardt

She was born August 20, 1935, in Hays, Kansas to Gerald and Agnes (Wolf) Leiker. She married Vitus Brungardt on August 25, 1977, at Hutchinson, Kansas. He died April 28, 2014.

She was a waitress for over 25 years working at The Lamar Hotel, Woolworths, The Coney Island Drive-In, The Mall Restaurant and was a prep cook at Arby’s for 10 years. She grew up in Hays, attended Hays High School and was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. She enjoyed playing cards, puzzles, watching birds, going to the casinos and spending time with her family.

Survivors include three sons, LuVern Lang Jr. and wife, Pam, Tribune, KS; Norman Lang and wife, Rose Marie, LaCrosse, KS; Mark Lang and wife Lori, Hays, KS; one daughter, Mary Engel and companion, Brian Jacques, Hays, KS; one step-son, Keith Brungardt and wife, Beverly, Vincent, KS; one step-daughter, Cindy Huser and husband, Bryan, Hays, KS; one daughter-in-law, Terri Brungardt, Hutchinson, KS; one brother, Norman Leiker and wife, Rita, Hays, KS; one sister, Barbara Clarke, Hays, KS; 10 grandchildren: Jenny Spear (Mike), Joshua Kehn (Lisa), Trevor Engel (Susie Obholz), Keaton Lang (Lexi),Chris Lang, Mindy Lang, Jessica Normandin (Kyle), Faith Desbien, Quincy Robben, Kelsey Morrow (Lance); 11 great grandchildren; 8 step-grandchildren and 14 step-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Patrick Lang; one son-in-law, Clifford V. “Cliff” Engel; her first husband, LuVern Lang; one step-son, Larry Brungardt.

Services are at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, October 27, 2016, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 18 and Vine, Hays, Kansas. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery Hays, Kansas.

Herman Henry Fellhoelter Jr.

thumbnailHerman Henry Fellhoelter Jr. passed away on Friday, October 21, 2016 at his home in Plainville, Kansas at the age of 86. He was born March 29, 1930 in Angelus, Kansas to Herman J. and Odella (Comeau) Fellhoelter, Sr. He graduated from the 8th grade and joined the workforce to help support his family.

He married Irene Garvert on April 3, 1951 at Sacred Heart Church in Plainville. Herman worked and gained great respect in the oilfields for many years working for Kimbark Oil and Gas and owner of Jrs. Well Service and Fellhoelter Consulting. In 1983 he was founder and Co-Owner of H & C Oil Operating, Inc. of Plainville from which he retired, allowing him to enjoy his hobbies of fishing, traveling the areas of Rooks County where he loved checking oil wells and his cattle, and attending his grandchildren’s activities. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 1857 of Plainville.

Herman was a man whose kind smile and generous spirit led him through his 86 years of life. Whether he was sharing vivid stories of his childhood with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchild or inviting visitors into his home with a hearty, “Come into this house!” Herman’s inviting spirit warmed the room. He was always willing to help someone down on their luck, but never expected anything in return. He truly believed in helping the community he loved and inspired those around him to do the same. His benevolent legacy will live on through those who loved him most by doing small and considerate acts of kindness in his name.

Survivors include his wife Irene Fellhoelter of the home; daughters Linda Roberts and husband Gayle of Louisburg, Kathy Ramsay and husband Charles of Plainville, Eileen Plante and husband Bob of Plainville, Mary Meade and husband Paul of Olathe; sons Steve Fellhoelter and wife Tracy of Plainville, and Jerry Fellhoelter of Plainville; brothers Larry Fellhoelter and wife Sherry of Great Bend, Melvin Fellhoelter and wife Elizabeth of Medina, OH, Lee Fellhoelter and wife Carol of Shawnee; sisters Pauline Westhusing and husband Elden of Hays, and Doris Hale and husband Bill of Sutton, NE; 17 Grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren, which will soon be 32; and 1 great-great-granddaughter.

Herman was preceded in death by his parents Herman and Odella Fellhoelter, brothers Donald and Dennis Fellhoelter, infant sister Mary Fellhoelter, son-in-law Myron Brin, and grandson Christopher Fellhoelter.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 24, 2016 at Sacred Heart Church in Plainville, KS. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00-4:30pm on Sunday at the funeral home with Rosary at 3:00pm, and from 6:00-8:00pm at the church with Prayer Vigil at 7:00pm.

Jeralyn M. Merritt

3983176Jeralyn M. Merritt, 73, of Linn, KS, and formerly of Hays, KS, died October 22, 2016 at the Linn Nursing Home.

Visitation will be Monday, October 24, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Ward Funeral Home in Linn. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 25 at Zion Lutheran Church in Linn. Rev. David Gruoner will officiate. Eunice Beier will play the organ while the congregation sings “What a Friend We Have In Jesus”, “The Lamb”, and “How Great Thou Art”.

The pallbearers will be Nate Merritt, Blake Merritt, Austin Winter, Shayne Albert, Dalton Ganoung, and Jayce Ganoung.

Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery.

Jeralyn was born April 19, 1943 at Clay Center, KS, daughter of Ervin and Martha (Peters) Boerger. She attended Zion Lutheran School and in 1961 graduated from Linn High School.

On July 28, 1961 she married Richard Merritt at Zion Lutheran Church. In 1973, they moved to Hays where she was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church. In 1999, she returned to Linn.

Jeralyn enjoyed babysitting, delivering Meals on Wheels, sewing, crocheting, embroidery, quilting, cooking, baking, playing the organ, mowing the lawn, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include her children, Vicki (Mike) Jones, Plainville, KS, Gary Merritt, Lincoln, NE, Keith Merritt, Colorado Springs, CO, Scott (Amber) Merritt, Omaha, NE, and Karen (Sherwin) Pestka, Meridian, ID; former husband, Richard; sister, Shirley (Don) Winter, Linn; twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorials have been established to Linn Nursing Home or Zion Lutheran Church. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, 115 W 2nd, Washington, KS 66968.

Maxine Joyce Roudebush

Maxine Joyce Roudebush, age 70, of Hays passed away Monday, October 17, 2016 in Hays. She was born October 13, 1946 in Warren, Pennsylvania to Gairld and Mary (Bischoff) French. She married Thomas Roudebush January 11, 1973 in Westminster, California.

Maxine was a homemaker and had worked as a Nurse’s Aide as well.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas of Hays; three sons, Sam Hull and wife Judy of Hays, John Santana and wife Tammi of California and Thomas Roudebush and wife Kris of Wichita, Kansas; a daughter, Terri Rice and husband Larry of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; two brothers, Gary French of Idaho and Ron French of California as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Mary Rice and a sister, Janet Jones.

Michael Jon Hynes

screen-shot-2016-10-21-at-1-33-05-pmMichael Jon Hynes, age 62, of Hays, passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at his home. He was born August 16, 1954 in Hoxie, Kansas to Billie Bob and Harriet (St John) Hynes. He married Izene Zimmerman on January 15, 1982 in Hays, Kansas.

He had worked as a driller and a heavy equipment operator. He enjoyed riding dirt bikes, drag racing, fishing and his pet dogs.

He is survived by his wife, Izene of Hays; three sons, Shawn Hynes of Salina, Kansas, Dustin Hynes and wife Misty and Jamie Hynes and wife Janell all of Hays, Kansas; a daughter, Kelli Hynes of Hays, Kansas; two sisters, Jana Whiting of Gaithersburg, Maryland and Missy Stegman of Sheridan, Oregon as well as 9 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Sally Hynes.

Leon Edwin Grizzle

screen-shot-2016-10-25-at-11-16-15-amLeon Edwin Grizzle, 87, of Russell, Kansas, died on Thursday, October 20, 2016, at the Main Street Manor in the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, Kansas.

Leon was born on June 01, 1929, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the son of Richard Theophilous and Venus Vivian (Patterson) Grizzle. He grew up in Oklahoma City and Enid, Oklahoma areas and attended local schools. Later he joined the United States Army and fought in the Korean war. He met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Ernestine M. Butler on August 30, 1952 in Enid, Oklahoma. From this union Leon and Ernestine were blessed with 3 sons Phillip, Robert and Richard; 2 daughters Patricia and Theresa. In 1958, Leon moved his family to Russell, Kansas. He went to work for Shields Oil Producers for 20 plus years. He was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church and served as a deacon for many years. He was also a life member of the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240. He enjoyed fishing and hunting but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his many grandchildren.

Surviving family include three sons, Phillip Grizzle (Kim) of Russell, Kansas, Robert Grizzle (Dorothy) of Eudora, Kansas and Richard Grizzle of Hays, Kansas; two daughters, Patricia Dillon of Russell, Kansas and Theresa Ehrlich (Ron) of Hays, Kansas; brother Paul Grizzle (Jeanne) of Shawnee Mission, Kansas; 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ernestine on March 27, 2012, brothers Richard A. Grizzle and Bill Grizzle; daughter in-law Mary Grizzle and grandson, Christopher Ehrlich.

Celebration of Leon’s Life will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, October 25, 2016, at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell with Pastor David Jones officiating. Burial will follow at the Russell City Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 8 PM on Monday, October 24, 2016, at the mortuary with the family present to greet friends from 6 PM to 7 PM Monday evening. A memorial has been established with First Southern Baptist Church in Russell and sent in care of the mortuary. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
