Clarence Pete Schneider

Screen Shot 2016-06-26 at 10.55.13 AMClarence Pete Schneider, 89, of Wilson, Kansas and formerly of Russell, Kansas, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2016 at the Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington, Kansas.

Pete was born August 10, 1926, in Hoisington, Kansas, the son of Pete and Anna (Herdt) Schneider. He grew up and attended school in Hoisington.

Pete served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII, stationed in the Pacific. After the war he returned to the Russell area.

Pete was united in marriage to Mary R. Wolfers in 1972. They made their home in Russell. Mary preceded him in death on November 30, 2013.

Pete worked in construction and as a carpenter in the Russell area for many years. He was a life member of the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240. He enjoyed square dancing with Mary,; winning fishing tournaments; raising chickens, quail and pheasants; and tinkering in his shop where he always had a project going.

Surviving family include his three grandchildren, Tami Fuller (Chad) of David City, Jana Cook (Lonny) of Salina, Kansas, Nebraska and Bobbie Bieker of Kilgore, Texas; step son, Kenneth Bieker of Nickerson, Kansas; brother LeRoy Schneider of Jamestown, Kansas; five great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Mary.

Celebration of Pete’s Life will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, June 27, 2016 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell. Burial will follow at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Russell where Russell V.F.W. Post #6240 Honor Guard will conduct Military Rites. Visitation will be from Noon to 8:00 PM Sunday, June 26, 2016 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary. A Memorial has been established with the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240. Robert Lee (Bob) Davis

Kensington resident Robert Lee (Bob) Davis passed away June 20, 2016 in Smith County, KS at the age of 72. He was born Sept. 22, 1943 in Fairbury, NE, the son of Charles Holmes & Elizabeth Phyllis (Blair) Davis.

Survivors include his wife Janet of the home; his daughter Donna Morrison of Loveland, CO; his sister Arloene Gieber of Omaha, NE & 3 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 27 at 11:00 a.m. in the Heartland Worship Center, Agra, with Pastors Jonathan Gibson & Edward Fugate officiating. Burial will follow in the Olive Branch Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon to 9:00 Saturday & Sunday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with the family receiving friends from 3:00 to 4:00 Sunday.

Donald D. Dornon

Donald D. Dornon, age 62, passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at his home in Scott City, Kansas. He was born on September 22, 1953 in Oakley, Kansas, the son of William Dornon and Martha Alice Richardson Dornon Martin Gossett. He was a resident of Scott City, Kansas since 1987 after retiring from the US Marine & US Army serving for over 19 years and was a Staff Sargent.

He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Veteran Administration, DAV.

Survivors include his One Son – Arron Dornon of Watertown, South Dakota, Two Brothers – Frank Dornon of Russell, Kansas, John Martin of Saudi Arabia, Two Sisters – Joan Chenowth of Copperas Cove, Texas, Jean Ludowese of Scott City, Kansas and Five Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his Parents.

Funeral Services will be announced at a later date.

Memorials may be given to the Donald Dornon Memorial Fund % Price & Sons Funeral Home in Scott City, Kansas.

Pat Rudolph

Patricia Lou Hollingsworth was born February 20 1931 to Ralph and Eythel (Hopper) Hollingsworth in Scott City KS. Being a lifelong resident she attended Scott City schools graduating from Scott Community High School with the class of 1949.

She married Lowell L Rudolph in Scott City. She was an active farm wife, loving the farm life.

She is survived by her husband, Lowell, daughters Kathleen and Tom Moore, LuAnn and Jon Buehler, five grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by three sisters, Roberta Smith of Chino Valley AZ, Connie and Larry Knobbe of Marienthal KS, Mary and Steve Grigg of Ulysses KS along with numerous and much loved nieces and nephews.

Patricia loved Scott City and Scott County. She was the past president of the Scott County Historical Society and was instrumental in writing and publishing the original Scott County History Book.

Services will be Saturday June 25th at 10:30AM at the United Methodist Church in Scott City KS with Fr. Don Martin presiding.

Interment will be in the Scott County Cemetery in Scott City, Kansas.

Memorials are requested to Golden Rule Preschool in Scott City or St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital through Price and Sons Funeral Home in Scott City.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Scott City, Kansas.

Jack and Betty Kennard

ThumbnailBetty Lucille (Shandy) Kennard passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville, Kansas at the age of 82. Jack was born on April 8, 1932 in Waverly, Kansas to the late Oscar Leroy and Myrtle V. (Highly) Kennard. Betty was born on December 8, 1933 in Mountain View, Missouri to the late James and Minnie (Loader) Shandy. She grew up and graduated from Mountain View High School with the Class of 1950. On October 23, 1952 she was united in marriage to Jackie “Jack” Darrell Kennard in Arkansas. Jack served in the United States Air Force for 20 years. Their favorite bases they were stationed on were in Anchorage and Fairbanks, Alaska.

Betty and Jack raised their family, and worked hard to take care of one another. Jack took care of the farming and ranching, and was able to work on anything that needed fixing. Betty took care of the home, sewing, quilting, making clothes, and any other jobs that needed her care. They gardened and canned, always working together to make their house a home, depending only on each other.

Betty was an accomplished artist and painter, enjoyed fixing up and flipping homes, reading, and drinking coffee. She worked for the General Services Administration in Kansas City for many years, became a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1988, at the age of 55, and worked at several nursing homes in the Waverly, Kansas area.

Jack, who passed away on September 29, 2008, and Betty are survived by their daughters Glenda Palmberg and husband Richard of Plainville, and Jackie Riffey of Topeka; Jack’s siblings Jerry and Lois Kennard, Romona Bartee, and Loma Hively; grandchildren Jason Palmberg and wife Laurissa of Henderson, NV, Sarah and Linsey Eatmon, Rebekah and Bradley Steel, and Robert Fablinger all of Topeka; great-grandchildren Justina Merritt of Plainville, Andrew Palmberg, Alex Palmberg, and Emily Palmberg all of Henderson, NV, Elizabeth Ludwig, Liam Ludwig, Javeon Eatmon, Alexander Strawder, and Wyatt Steel all of Topeka; and great-great-grandchild Jolynn Hernandez.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents James and Minnie Shandy; husband Jack Kennard; brothers Ralph Shandy, Kenneth Shandy, Glenn “Happy” Shandy, Dale Shandy, and Ray Shandy; and granddaughter Jill Merritt.

In accordance with Jack and Betty’s wishes, there will be no funeral services held. A private family inurnment for both of them will take place at a later date.

Jack and Betty were hardworking, self-reliant, lifelong learners. The perfect team, they showed us by daily example how to work together to take care of the most important things in life, family, friends, and one another. The will be greatly missed because they were greatly loved.

Frank Ervin Morgan

Frank Ervin Morgan, age 68, passed away at Via Christi St. Frances Hospital, Wichita, Tuesday, June 21, 2016.

He was born November 20, 1947 in Hoxie, KS, the son of Ervin Albert and Lora Ellen Wooton Morgan.

He married Melody Ellis on August 8, 1970. They had three sons, Scott, Phillip, and Walter, all of Ness City.

Frank served in the United States Air Force from July 1966 to May 1970. He was a mechanic servicing C130 cargo planes. He served a year in Vietnam in The Ranch Hands.

He worked in the oil fields for over 40 years. He was a pulling unit operator for years, then went to water truck driving the rest of his years until he retired.

He is survived by his wife; sons; a very special niece that was like a daughter to him, Patty Barfield, Alton, KS; grandchildren, Craig, Mia, and Colten Morgan; three very special great nieces that called him grandpa; sister, Alta Ann (Larry) West, Longmont, CO; sisters-in-law, Betty Morgan, Topeka, and Mary Morgan, OK; and lots of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Ed and Max Morgan.

Cremation has taken place as per the family wishes.

Graveside memorial service will be Thursday, July 7, 10:00 A.M. at the WaKeeney Veterans Cemetery, WaKeeney, KS.

Memorials contributions may be given to Heartland Cancer Center, Great Bend.

Alma Betz

Alma Betz, 94, died June 21, 2016 at the Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born June 23, 1921, at Bazine, KS, the daughter of Jacob and Anna Hemel Funk. She had been a longtime Ness County resident and moved to Great Bend in 1994.

On February 7, 1942, she married Harold Betz, at Larned. He died December 5, 2000.

She was preceded in death by seven brothers and four sisters. Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be Friday, June 24, 2016 at Bazine Cemetery, Bazine, KS.

Memorials may be given to Alzheimer’s Association, or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Bill R. Lovitt, age 78, passed away at Kansas University Medical Center on June 21, 2016.

William David ‘Bill’ Paul

pau60619William David “Bill” Paul, 80, of Hays, passed away Sunday, June 19, 2016. Bill was born July 18, 1935 in Goodland to William and Inez (Giffen) Paul of Weskan, Kansas.

Bill joined the US Army and achieved the rank of First Lieutenant. After serving, he worked for the Kansas Department of SRS for 30 years. Bill was also a proud member of the Masons and Lions Clubs.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Paul; daughter, Dr. Lisa Paul; son, Michael (Melinda) Paul; and grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Kalene, and Kendale Paul.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Velma Deyoe.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, June 24, at First United Methodist Church of Hays. Visitation will be one hour prior, from 10-11 a.m., at the church.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Hays, Lions Club of Hays, or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Marilyn (Saug) Goracke

Marilyn (Saug) Goracke, daughter of William and Dorathy (Rigbers) Shugar, was born October 23, 1945 in Iowa Falls, IA. She passed away on June 18, 2016 at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg, KS at the age of 70.

Marilyn grew up in Ackley, IA, graduating from Ackley High School with the class of 1963. She then completed the Practical Nursing Program at Hawkeye School of Technology. During her nursing career in Cedar Valley, Marilyn worked for Dr. Kerfoot at Parkview Gardens and Cedar Falls Health Care before retiring.

On October 22, 2000, Marilyn was united in marriage to Harvey Goracke. The couple made their home in Phillipsburg, KS. Marilyn served on the Phillipsburg City Council for 4 years and worked at Miles Furniture for 8 years. She was recently selected by the Phillips County Hospital to serve as a Patient Liaison, promoting hospital services that aligned patient needs.

Marilyn was also a homemaker. She took great pride in her gardens, pets, writing and her home. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her father and a daughter-in-law, Tanya Richards.

Survivors include her husband Harvey of Phillipsburg, KS; her mother Dorathy Shugar of Iowa Falls, IA; 2 daughters, Sharon (David) McRae of Cedars Falls, IA & Jennifer (Dean) Eyler of Plymouth, MN; her son, Tom Richards of Johnston, IA; a step-daughter Tabetha Gray of Hutchinson, KS; a step-son Thurston Goracke of Phillipsburg; her sister, Carolyn (John) Ford of Humboldt, IA; her brother Larry (Pam) Shugar of Ackley, IA; 8 grandchildren: Carson, Jenna, Cullen, Liam McRae, Luke & Lauren Eyler, Noah & Ethan Richards; 3 step grandchildren: Alliyah, Tavian & D’Naeya Gray; 2 nieces, a nephew & cousins.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 24 at 10:00 a.m. in the Heartland Worship Center, Agra with Pastors Jay Brandon & Jonathan Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg.

Luella Ann (Dill) Zillinger

Phillipsburg, KS – Luella Ann (Dill) Zillinger was born on October 4, 1934 to Herman and Hilda (Bach) Dill. She went to be with her Lord on Friday, June 17, 2016 at the age of 81 at home on the farm.

Luella was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church. She began playing the organ at church services when she was twelve and played throughout her life. Luella graduated from Phillipsburg High School and began working at Bell Telephone systems as a switchboard operator. She married Fred Everett Zillinger on January 24, 1954 and enjoyed 50 years together. Luella will be remembered for her strong Christian faith, eagerness to help others in need, attending Bible studies and serving in the FLC Ladies Guild, using her musical gifts at the church organ and singing in Easter/Christmas cantatas, enjoyment of reading biographies and historical fiction, visits with cousins, their many travels, time at their cabin in Colorado, and selfless care for her husband, sons and their families. Fred and Luella had four sons, Charles, Jeffrey, F. Everett, and Gregory.

Luella was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Hilda Dill; infant sister, Fern; Infant brother, Gerald; and husband, Fred Zillinger. She is survived by her sister, Dorothy (Patrick) Hull of Fort Collins, CO; sons, Charles (Kathleen) Zillinger of Troy, ID; Jeff (Joyce) Zillinger of Topeka, KS; F. Everett (Susan) Zillinger of Shepherdstown, WV; and Gregory (Sara) Zillinger of Castle Rock, CO; 14 grandchildren: Megan Hossain, Rebecca (B.J.) LaPlant, Ethan Zillinger, Aaron Zillinger, Lauren Zillinger, Rhett Zillinger, James Zillinger, Sabrina Zillinger, Joshua Zillinger, Faith Zillinger, Noah Zillinger, Jaina Zillinger, Elijah Zillinger, and Keira Zillinger; four great-grandchildren: Aidan Hossain, Remy Hossain, Adeline LaPlant, and Scarlette LaPlant; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to First Lutheran Church, FLC Ladies Guild, or Orphan Grain Train would be appreciated.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the funeral home with the family receiving friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday evening.

Funeral at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 25th at First Lutheran Church, 1035 First Street, Phillipsburg, KS 67661. Luella will be laid to rest with Fred following the service at Trinity-First Lutheran Cemetery west of Stuttgart, KS. Pastor Joel Hiesterman will be presiding. Lunch will be served at First Lutheran’s fellowship hall after interment.

Drusilla F. Fox

Drusilla F. Fox, 97, Bison, Kansas, died Monday, June 20, 2016, at her home.

Mrs. Fox was born February 5, 1919, in Clinton, Missouri, the daughter of Herman and Emma (Betz) Schmidt. She was a lifelong resident of Rush County, Kansas, living briefly in Arizona, and Kentucky. A 1937 graduate of Enterprise Academy, Enterprise, Kansas, she was a registered nurse before her retirement.
She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, La Crosse, Kansas.

She was known to her family and friends as the “card lady”. If she knew your birthday, it was a guarantee you would always receive a card for your special day. She loved to share her homemade cookies.

On February 7, 1943, she married Lynn W. Fox at Bison, Kansas. He preceded her in death March 22, 1984.
Survivors include: two sons, Charles “Eddie” Fox (Henrietta), Houston, Texas, and Donald Fox (Jo Ann), Peck, Kansas; two daughters, Carol Bales-Speer (John), Bison, Kansas, and Lois Fox-Felkel (John), Bison, Kansas; one grandson; seven granddaughters; eight step grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 22 step great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; three step great great grandchildren; and numerous relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband.

Visitation will be Friday, June 24, 2016, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, Kansas, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.

The family will conduct a memorial service Saturday, June 25, 2016, at 2:30 P.M. at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, La Crosse, Kansas, with Pastor Ed Jumper officiating.

Interment will be Sunday, June 26, 2016, at 9:00 A.M., in the SDA Cemetery, Bison, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Maranatha Christian School, Hays, Kansas, or Hospice at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.

William (Willie) A, Heier

William (Willie) A. Heier, 83, of Grinnell Passed away June 21, 2016 at Gove County Medical Center with his wife and daughters by his side.

He was born June 25, 1932 to Michael and Marianna (Kuntz) Heier in Park, KS. He was raised in park and Grinnell. He graduated from Grinnell High School with the class of 1951. He served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956 and honorably discharged.

He married Wilma Jean Hemmert on June 16, 1959 in Oakley. They made their home in Grinnell where Willie was a lifetime farmer and cattleman. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Grinnell and the American Legion Post 0301 of Grainfield.

Preceding him in death are his parents; son, Danny; sisters, Julia, Agnes and Lorena; brothers, Pius and Linus.

Survived by his wife, Jeannie of 57 years; daughters, Debbie (Joe) Lubbers, of McCook, NE, Dorena (Kevin) Goyen, of Kingman, Donna (Johnnie) Williams, of Page City and Darlene (Justen) Selley, of Holton; grandchildren, Beth, Patrick, Sarah, Skyler, Jerri, Jessi, Daniel, Porscha, Martin, Billy and Grace; 8 great grandchildren; sisters, Daisy Fellhoelter and Delores Katt.

Visitation will be 5-7:00pm Thursday, June 23, 2016 at Immaculate Conception Parish Center, Grinnell with Vigil at 7:00pm. Funeral Mass will be 10:00am, Friday, June 24, 2016 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Grinnell. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery.
