Lois M. McLeish

Lois M. McLeish, age 86, of Ness City, KS passed away June 16, 2016 at Hays Medical Center. She was born in Altamont, Kansas on October 18, 1929 to Howard and Ethel (Hauck) Billington. Lois attended Kansas State University and was a member of Clovia House. There she met Thomas Edwin McLeish and married in 1950. She moved to their farm in rural Beeler and together they had two sons; Bill McLeish of Ness City and Ed McLeish of Stafford. While keeping all the men fed at the farm, she stayed with her passion of learning and teaching, attending classes at Fort Hay State College where she received her degrees.

Lois taught English and Home Economics at Beeler High School until 1966 then began teaching Home Economics at Ness High School until she retired in the early 1990’s. She enjoyed being a class sponsor, FHA sponsor and 4-H Leader as well as a member of the United Methodist Church, PEO and several other organizations. She loved taking care of and spending time with her grandchildren, teaching them to cook and sew, playing cards with friends, bowling and traveling. While in the Beeler community she was involved in most of the local activities and EHU. In 2006, Lois moved to Ness City. She continued playing cards, socializing and volunteering at the thrift store. She appreciated spending time with and catching up on all of her former students, which she took great pride in.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Juanita Johnson Payne.

Survivors include two sons: Bill McLeish (Annette Speer) of Ness City and Ed McLeish of Stafford; three grandchildren: Amanda McLeish of Fairway, KS, Lindy McLeish Bridgewater (Monte) of Mission Viejo, CA and Justin McLeish of Stafford, KS.

Funeral Services will be held at the United Methodist Church in Ness City on June 30th at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at the Ness City Cemetery.

Nicholas ‘Nick’ Aidan Schwarz

Nicholas “Nick” Aidan Schwarz, 21, of Lyons and formerly of McPherson, passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2016, in an automobile accident near Windom, KS. His girlfriend, Rebecca “Becca” Jean Deist, and their unborn daughter, Hailey Jean Schwarz, also died in the accident.

Nick was born on November 13, 1994, in Biloxi, MS, the son of Christopher P. and Allison H. (Schick) Schwarz. Nick graduated from McPherson High School in 2013 and attended Hutchinson Community College. He was employed at Sandstone Heights Nursing Home in Little River, KS.

Survivors include: parents, Christopher & Allison Schwarz of McPherson, KS; brother, Zachery Schwarz (Vanessa) of San Antonio, TX; grandfather, Frederick Schick (Nancy) of Lake Forest, IL; grandmother, Joan Schwarz of Colby, KS; Godfather, Mark Schwarz of Colby, KS; Godmother, Gillan Hampton of North Barrington, IL; and numerous aunt, uncles, & cousins.

He was preceded in death by grandmother, Gay Schick, and grandfather, Herman Schwarz.

The visitation will be held from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 7:00 PM, Wednesday, June 22, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Colby, KS with Father Dana Cark officiating. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Colby.

Irene Ann Dreiling

Irene Ann Dreiling, 91, Ellis, passed away on June 19, 2016 at Trego Lemke Memorial Hospital. She was born April 17, 1925, in Ellis County to Jacob and Anna (Dreiling) Pfannenstiel. She was united in marriage to Linus Dreiling on August 15, 1943, and enjoyed 25 years of marriage until his death on June
3, 1968.

Irene was an active member of the Daughters of Isabella, VFW Auxilliary, and St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Irene will be remembered by loved ones for her love for cooking, crocheting, and storytelling, and her great sense of humor.

She is survived by her brother, James Pfannenstiel of Dadville, Alabama, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers Herman and Virgil Pfannenstiel, and sisters Georgine Lewis, Barbara Dinkel, Jo Ann Brown, and Mary Ann Rhine.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellis.

Visitation will be Wednesday 9:30 until service time with a rosary service at 10:00 AM all at St. Mary’s Church in Ellis.

Interment will be at 2:00 PM on Wednesday in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Plainville, KS.

Lucas Todd Matthies, age 36, passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2016 in Scott County, Kansas. He was born on February 17, 1980 in Scott City, Kansas, the son of D. Craig and Marcia Kay Hillery Matthies. He was a a lifetime resident of Scott City, Kansas and was a mill operator for Beef Belt Feeders of Scott City, Kansas

Survivors include his Daughter – Harper Matthies of Scott City, Kansas, Parents – Craig & Marcia Matthies of Scott City, Kansas, One Brother – Toby & Jacki Matthies of Vacaville, California, Grandparents – Paul Hillery of Scott City, Kansas, Maxine Carlson of Dighton, Kansas, One Nephew – Cooper Matthies of Vacaville, California, Two Uncles – Larry Hillery of Scott City, Kansas, Greg Hillery of Scott City, Kansas, Two Aunts – Janet Tecklenberg of Scott City, Kansas and Kim Musick of Weatherford, Texas.

Mont Lee Burton

Mont Lee Burton, age 61, of Hays passed away Thursday, June 16, 2016 at Hays Medical Center. He was born October 3, 1954 in Danville, ILL to Leon and Ileta (Morgeson) Burton. He married Robin Lynn Gay on July 8, 1977.

Mont had worked as a farmhand and was a US Army veteran serving in Korea. He enjoyed sprint car racing where he worked as a pit crew member.

He is survived by his wife, Robin; three sons, Shawn Burton of Illinois, Les Burton of Hays and Chris Burton (Melanie) of Victoria; three sisters, Donna Brazada of Hoisington, Kim Frank of LaCrosse and Betty Swartz of Great Bend; four grandchildren, Brandon Burton, Meghan Burton, Kylie Postalwait and Calib Bazil as well as two great grandchildren, Alex Ford and Ayriana Postalwait.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Brenda Jane Schuckman.

No services are planned at this time and cremation was chosen.

Donald Joseph Boeger

150x200-4333628Donald Joseph Boeger, 69, of Angelus, died Wednesday, June 15th, 2016, at Via Christi Hospital, Wichita, Kansas. He was born August 6th, 1946, in Colby, Kansas, to Frank and Catherine (Moellering) Boeger. He graduated from Grinnell High School in 1964 and Goodland Vo-tech in 1966. On October 5th, 1968, he married Raecine Heinrich, in Angelus, Kansas. Donald was a farmer his entire life.

His love for Christ and his family and friends were evident in his daily actions. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Angelus and a 3rd degree member of Knights of Columbus.

Time with family and friends was greatly treasured. Many evenings you could find Don and Raecine spending time with friends around their kitchen table. There was no limit to the laughter and love.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters Delores Letourneau and Bernice Lang and his brother Clemens Boeger.

Don is survived by his loving wife of almost 48 years, Raecine; two sons, Christopher and wife Kathy and Jeffrey; grandchildren, Devan, Ashley, Allison, Garret, Dalton and Dylan and two sisters, Phyllis Temaat and Ann and husband Dale Nice.

Don was dearly loved. He always had a big smile for every one and didn’t know a stranger. He was always positive and will be missed by all of his family and friends.

Visitation is 5-7:00 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2016 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, in Angelus, with a Vigil at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass is 9:00 a.m. Saturday, June 18, 2016 also at the Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. William (Bill) Bauers

William (Bill) Bauers of Friend, KS passed away Monday, June 13, 2016. Bill was born October 23, 1939 in Fremont, NE to William and Alice (Neff) Bauers.

He lived in several southeast Nebraska towns before returning to Fremont in 1956. He graduated from Fremont High School in 1959. After graduation he moved to Leoti, KS. He was married to Wanda Wewer on February 25, 1967 in Leoti, KS. She died July 30, 1978.

He worked on the wheat harvest for 3 years from OK to ND and then for ‘Chief’ Anderson and Jerry Spradling by Leoti, KS. He lived in Modoc, KS and Friend, KS while working for Bunge Corporation (then Cargill) until his retirement. Bill had been an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous since 1977.

Survivors include 3 sons, Kevin Bauers of Washington, Kent Bauers and Suzan Bowser of Arizona, and Shad Bauers of , Michigan a daughter Toni Barber and her husband Daryl Barber of Texas. A sister, Petricia (Eugene) Nicholson of Fremont, Nebraska, brother David Bauers and his wife Sonja of Fremont, Nebraska and sister-in-law LaVonne Dahl of Scribner, Nebraska. Bill also had 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his step father, LeRoy Dahl and step brother, Duane Dahl.

Memorial Services will be 10:30 A.M, Monday, June 20, 2016, at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Scott City, KS. Burial will be at a later date.

Margie R. Berry

Margie R. Berry, age 81, passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at her home in Scott City, Kansas. She was born on June 1, 1935 in Bradshaw, Texas, the daughter of Landon Hickland and Clara LaVada Bagwell Turnbow. She was the owner and operator of Berry Realty and was a resident of Scott City, Kansas since 1959 moving from Leoti, Kansas.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Scott City, Kansas. She was also a member of the Kansas Realtors Association and NRA.

Survivors include her Three Sons – Charles & Sherrie Berry of Scott City, Kansas, Benny Berry & Cheree Swaney of Dodge City, Kansas, Darrel & Shelly Berry of Scott City, Kansas, One Daughter – Pam & Terry McDaniel of Scott City, Kansas, Four Brothers – Harven Turnbow of Midland, Texas, Jimmy Turnbow of Hereford, Texas, Harold & Brenda Turnbow of Helotes, Texas, Wayne & Jackie Turnbow of Abilene, Texas, Four Sisters – Faye Rendon of Waco, Texas, Betty & Gale Morris of Andrews, Texas, Lavern & Doug Neithercutt of Odessa, Texas, Clara Dean Walsh of Abilene, Texas, Fourteen Grandchildren and Thirteen Great Grandchildren.

Gary R. Lindenmuth

Gary Lindenmuth 001Gary R. Lindenmuth, 77, Hays, died Monday, June 13, 2016, at McAllen Heart Hospital, McAllen Texas.

He was born June 28, 1938 in Wenatchee, Washington, to Leo (Pappy) and Hazel (Stukey) Lindenmuth. On May 29, 1958 he married Helen Hendrix in Chickasha, OK. Gary truly enjoyed entertaining and spending time with his family and friends.

He was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling to his home in Newfoundland each summer. He worked for Chief Drilling Company for many years and the last 22 years he has been employed part-time at Doerflers’ Harley-Davidson.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Hays.

Survivors include his wife of the home, two children, a son, Jeff Lindenmuth of Hays, a daughter, Deanna Doerfler and husband Brian of Hays, three grandchildren, Niles Lindenmuth, Wichita, Ashley Doerfler Clark, and husband Derek, Marietta, GA, Tara Doerfler Chapin and husband David, Cincinnati, OH., three great grandchildren, Chase Brian Clark, Lila Jane and Quinn Lauren Chapin, and one sister, Joyce Disque and husband Wally.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 am on Monday, June 20, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church, 305 W. 7th Street, Hays. Cremation has taken place in McAllen, Texas.  The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine, and from 10:00 am until service time on Monday at the church.

Velda E. Transue

Preceded in death by: parents; brother, Lewis Transue and his wife Eva; sisters, Venda Transue, and Vesta McCready and her husband Gene.
