Mildred M. Littler

Mildred M. Littler, 95, La Crosse, Kansas, died Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at Rush County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care, La Crosse, Kansas.

Mrs. Littler was born September 2, 1920, in rural Ness County, Kansas, the daughter of George and Marie (Jedlicka) Seuser.  She was a lifelong resident of Ness and Rush Counties.  A 1939 graduate of Bison High School, Bison, Kansas, she was a homemaker.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, La Crosse, Kansas.

On April 19, 1942, she married Melvin F. Littler at Hays, Kansas.  He preceded her in death June 24, 2011.

Survivors include:  one son, Frank Littler (Elaine), McCracken, Kansas; two daughters, Carol Herdman (Terry), Blacksburg, Virginia, and Pat Miller (Terry), La Crosse, Kansas; seven grandchildren, Scott Littler, Brenda Rosenlund, Kirk Herdman, Darwin Herdman, Kimbra Melton, Leanne Miller, and Deanna Stevens-Heier; 15 great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; and one brother, George Seuser, Jr., Marquette, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, William “Bill” Seuser; and one sister, Marguerite Albers.

Visitation will be Friday, May 27, 2016, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, Kansas, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.

Church visitation will be Saturday, May 28, 2016, from 1:00 P.M. to 1:50 P.M. at the United Methodist Church, La Crosse, Kansas.

Funeral service will be Saturday, May 28, 2016, at 2:00 P.M. at the United Methodist Church, La Crosse, Kansas, with Reverend Janice Farrell officiating.  Interment will be in the McCracken City Cemetery, McCracken, Kansas.

Memorials are suggested to the Rush County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Activity Fund, La Crosse, Kansas, or the United Methodist Church, La Crosse, Kansas.

Robert Gerald ‘Jerry’ Messamore

Robert Gerald “Jerry” Messamore, 90, of Colby, died Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at Brookdale Rosehill, in Shawnee, KS. He was born on May 10, 1926 to James and Genevieve (Wheaton) Messamore in Colby. He served in the United States Army in the European Theatre from 1944 to 1946. Among other awards he received the Bronze Star. He married Florene J. Bixenman Williams on January 7, 1965. A lifelong resident of Colby, he was a member of the Colby American Legion and V.F.W. Jerry was a builder and bricklayer, and later was a real-estate broker.

He was preceded in death by his Parents; sisters, Doris and Joyce and brother Kenneth.

He is survived by wife, Florene; children, Mriana Williams, Rebecca (Brad) Belanger, Mischele Williams and Dr. Darrell “Pete” (Barbara) Williams; brother Bill Messamore; Eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, who have been the “Light of his life” and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 4-8:00pm on Friday, May 27, 2016 at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby, with a vigil service at 7:00pm. Thelma Hiebsch

Screen Shot 2016-05-26 at 8.00.42 AMThelma Hiebsch, age 84, former Hays resident, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2016 at Bethesda Home in Goessel, Kansas. She was born May 15, 1932 in rural Thomas County, Kansas to Ted E. and Grace Mae (Chadwick) Griffin. She married Donald E. Hiebsch on December 10, 1950. He preceded her in death.

She had worked as an LPN at St. Anthony Hospital and the Good Samaritan Society, Hays. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and WKACD-Western Kansas Association Concerns of the Disabled and Elderly. She loved crafts and enjoyed volunteering for various organizations including Meals on Wheels.

She is survived by a daughter, June Grumbein of Hays; two sisters, Ruby Feess and Connie Towey both of Colby; four grandchildren, Candice Loffredi, Rachel Grumbein both of Hays, Brandon Funk of Princeton, KS and Raelynn Grumbein of Houston, TX and eight great grandchildren, Evie grumbein-Banegas, Taylor and Tyra Loffredi, Trinity and Tanaya Funk, Stuart Grumbein-Littrel, Kayley Geaslin and Justin Grumbein.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Funk, four brothers, Jay, Ike, Allen and Gary Griffin; a sister, Ethel Cooper; a son-in-law, Jerry Grumbein, and two grandson-in-laws, Rolando Banegas and Justin Loffredi.

Memorial services will be 6:30 PM Friday, May 27, 2016 at Brock’s-Keithley Funeral Chapel and Crematory 2509 Vine Hays, KS 67601 with visitation Friday 5:30 PM until service time.

Inurnment will be at a later date in the McCracken, Kansas Cemetery.

Mary Lou Schmidt

She was born January 18, 1929 in Hays, Kansas to Paul and Catherine (Walter) Schmidt. She graduated from Girls Catholic High School in 1947 and earned a Masters in English from Fort Hays State University.

Mary was a Commercial and Residential Real Estate Broker. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hays. She enjoyed Tennis, Traveling, reading, writing poetry and talking politics.

She is survived by two brothers, Marion Schmidt (Donna) of Hays and Donald Schmidt (Rose) of Arizona; a sister, Helen Edmonds of Michigan; three grandchildren, Erika Noone (Bryan of Hays, Jennifer Haselhorst (Fiance Chris Sida of Kansas City, Missouri and Meaghan Haselhorst of Denver, Colorado as well as four great grandchildren, Morgan, Kian, Logan and Ava.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jacqueline Chamoff; a son, Brad Rupp; five brothers, Edwin, Alexius, Vincent, Cyril and Jerome Schmidt and three sisters, Lydia Schreiner, Cecilia Pfeifer and Loretta Joy.

Memorial services will be 10 AM Saturday, May 28, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hays. Inurnment will be in the church cemetery.

He was born on February 1, 1932 in South Logan County, Kansas, the son of Anson Robert and Daisy May Cook McDaniel. A lifetime resident of Scott City, Kansas, he was a Farmer and Truck Driver.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Scott City, Kansas.

On May 14, 1952 he married Irma L. Simpson in Christian Church in Scott City, Kansas. She survives.

Survivors include his Wife – Irma L. McDaniel of Scott City, Kansas, Four Sons – Larry & Kathy McDaniel of Sharon Springs, Kansas, Richard McDaniel of Scott City, Kansas, Ross McDaniel & Kelly McCarty of Grand Junction, Colorado, Thomas & Pam McDaniel of Scott City, Kansas, One Daughter – Lois & Cliff Magie of Norton, Kansas, Nine Grandchildren and Nine Great Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his Parents, One Brother – Arlo and One Sister – Margie.

Funeral Services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Scott City at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2016 with Pastor Don Williams.

E. Lew Jensen, 89, formerly of Sylvan Grove, KS, died Sunday, May 22, 2016, in Overland Park, KS. Lew was born in rural Lincoln County Kansas, on December 3, 1926, to Henry Peter and Clara (Nelson) Jensen.

He was preceded in death by: his wife, Helen Louise (Stewart) Jensen; brother, Marvin, and twin brother, E. Don Jensen; sister, Almatha Woodall.

Left to celebrate his life include: sons, Larry (Anita) Jensen, of Plattsmouth, NE, and Dale (Linda) Jensen, of Choctaw, OK; daughter, Janet (Duane) Fields, of Overland Park; brothers, Cleo (Betty) Jensen of Hunter, KS, and Jerry (Marge) Jensen, of Marion, KS; sister, Carrie Michaelson, of Topeka, KS; 7 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.

Joyce A. McIntyre

Thumbnail-1Joyce A. McIntyre, 74, of Hill City, Kansas, passed away May 22, 2016 in Hill City. She was born on July 19, 1944 to Harold Eugene and Helen (Erickson) Hunter. She married Loyal E. McIntyre, May 19, 1989. He preceded her in death on November 17, 2004.

She is survived by: Sons, Terry and wife Lisa Benyon ~ Conifer, Colorado. Daughters: Kameo and husband Jim Smith ~ Hill City, Kansas. Kris and husband Jim Smith ~ Hill City, Kansas. Brothers: Eugene and wife Argie Hunter ~ Garretson, South Dakota, Donnie and wife Seim ~ Watertown, South Dakota, Ronnie and wife Connie Seim ~ Tea, South Dakota, Dennis and wife Nancy Seim ~ Lincoln, Nebraska, Sisters: Marlene and husband Russell Good ~ Waseca, Minnesota, Eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

Molly (Nichols) Brown

ThumbnailMolly (Nichols) Brown went to be with her Lord on Sunday, May 22, 2016, passing away peacefully at the Sheridan County Health Complex Long Term Care Center , at Hoxie, Kansas, at the age of 89. Molly was born in Carter County, Kentucky on March 14, 1927. She was the sixth child born to Walter and Josie (Mabry) Nichols. Molly grew up on “Tick Ridge” and was baptized as a young girl in the Church of God Faith at Soldier, Kentucky.

Molly had many fond memories of the hard work in the large garden and fields, working along with her brothers and sisters. As a young adult, Molly worked as a seamstress at the “Garment Factory” in Olive Hill, Kentucky, as well as helping care for her family. Molly was especially close to her family as evidenced by the many joyful visits to Kansas by them over the years. She loved going to the reunions and reliving all the stories of yesteryear.

On November 2, 1953, in Morehead, Kentucky, Molly married her “Knight in Shining Armor”, becoming the young bride of Glen R. Brown. Molly moved to Kansas to become a part of the family farm. Molly and Glen were blessed with three sons, Louie Dale (Janice), Terry Wade (Julie), and Brant Mickey (Jeannie) all of Hoxie, Kansas. She was blessed with twelve grandchildren, and thirty-two great-grandchildren to mourn her passing. Also surviving are one sister, Madge Holbrook and one sister-in-law, Mary Doris Nichols both of Olive Hill, Kentucky, along with a host of nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death is her husband, Glen; grandson, Timothy Levi Brown; her parents, Walter and Josie Nichols, Glen’s parents W.W. and Sarah Brown; brothers and sisters and their spouses, Orville and Elaine Brown, Elbert and Leona Brown, Junior and Maxine Richards, Harv and Firl Holbrook, Roy and Detta Davis, Emory and Sally Gearheart, Harlis and Jewel Nichols, Bernard and Marie Sparks, Jette and Opal Reynolds, Virgie Nichols, Thirl Nichols and Aldridge Holbrook.

Funeral Services for Molly will be held Friday, May 27, 2016, at the Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home, Hoxie, Kansas, at 2:00 P.M. with Stan Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Hoxie City Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be Thursday, May 26, 2016, from 10:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M., with family receiving friends from 5:30 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the Funeral Home. She was born Aug. 26, 1928 in Wurzburg, Germany, the daughter of August & Kathrine (Trout) Horn. Survivors include her husband Dale of Phillipsburg; 2 sons, Brad Balthazor of Topeka, KS & Gary Horn of Horseheads, NY; her daughter, Jana Jacobs of Orleans, NE; 5 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren & 1 great great grandchild.

A vigil service will be held Wed. May 25 at 7:00 p.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thurs. May 26 at 10:00 a.m. in the SS Philip & James Catholic Church with Father George Chalbhagam officiating.

A graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the MT Calvary Cemetery, Clyde, KS. Memorial contributions may be made to the Phillips County Health Dept. Mrs. Balthazor will lie in state from 12:00 to 9:00 Tuesday & 9:00 to 9:00 Wed. at the funeral home.
