Prairie View resident Anne Jansonius passed away Thurs. Feb. 18 at the Logan Manor Nursing Home in Logan at the age of 92. She was born July 21, 1923 in Phillips County, KS, the daughter of Albert & Weida (Jensma) Sprik. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her sons: David, Philip & ElWynn of Prairie View, Harvey of Hays & Randall of Ransom; her brother, Stanley Sprik of Worthington, MN; her sister, Hazel Nibbelink of Sioux Center, IA; 8 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren & 9 step great grandchildren.

A prayer service will be held Monday, Feb. 22 at 10:00 a.m. in the Luctor Christian Reformed Church, followed by a committal service at the Luctor Cemetery & Memorial service at the Church with Pastor Aaron Rust officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Church or Hospice Services.

Mrs. Jansonius will lie in state from 5:00 to 9:00 Sat. & noon to 9:00 Sun with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 7:00 Sunday evening.

3605042_wlppKeith Orvis Schwindt, 82, passed away on February 17, 2016 at the Rush County Hospital in LaCrosse, Kansas. He was born on January 11, 1934 in Rural McCracken, Kansas the son of Harry and Dorothea (Pratt) Schwindt.

He was a farmer and a member of the United Methodist Church, Bazine, Kansas. He married Judy Williams on Thursday, July 9th, 1953 in the EUB Church, Alexander, Kansas.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Schwindt, Alexander; son, Rick Schwindt and his wife Rosemarie, LaCrosse; daughters, Renee Scott, Bucklin and Rashell Patten and her husband Greg, Ellinwood; brother, Dale Schwindt and his wife Gloria, Alexander; sister, Connie Rumold and her husband Bill, Westminister, Colorado; 11 Grandchildren, and 13 Great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Raven Ranell Dale; his brother, Herbert Schwindt; and his son-in-law, Steve Scott.

Funeral Service will be on Monday, February 22, 2016, 10:30 AM, at the United Methodist Church, Bazine, Kansas. Burial in the Alexander Cemetery, Alexander, Kansas. Friends may call at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City on Sunday, February 21, 2016 from 10:00 A.M. until 9:00 P.M.

Viola Lucille Dumler, 96, of Russell, Kansas, died on Wednesday, February 17, 2016, at the Via Christie Village in Hays, Kansas.

A celebration of Viola’s life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 20, 2016, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Milberger, Kansas, with Pastor Nancy Mitchell officiating. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday afternoon at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Russell, Kansas. Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. on Friday, February 19, 2016, at the mortuary with family greeting guests from 6 P.M. to 7 P.M. Friday evening.

Memorials can be given to St. John Lutheran Church, Emmanuel Lutheran Church or Vintage Place and sent in care of the mortuary. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangments.

Jose Antonio Valencia

56c503e62b6c9Jose Antonio Valencia, age 39, of Hays passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He was born January 29, 1977 in Salamanca, GTO, Mexico to Roberto Valencia Ramirez and Felisa Ramirez.

Antonio was a roofer with RK Roofing and he attended Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. He was a loving and caring person who always had a smile on his face and was quick to help anyone who needed it. He was an especially proud father of Marina, Triton and Greg and soul mate of Melanie Cole.

He is survived by his significant other Melanie Cole; his daughter, Marina Darlene Valencia; step sons, Triton and Greg Cole and extended family, Norris and Darlene Cole all of Hays and Tammy and Tom Winters and daughters, Danielle, Ashley and Bailey all of Plainville; his mother Felisa Ramirez, his sisters San Juana Valencia, Maria De Jesus Valencia, his brothers Remedios Valencia, Domingo Valencia, Martin Valencia, Arnulfo Valencia from his family in Mexico. He is also survived by his brother Roberto Valencia in Florida, Adrian Valencia in Montana, and Lily Nunez in Texas, as well as 33 nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Maria Guadalupe Valencia.

Funeral services will be 10 AM Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Hays. Inurnment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Hays.

Martha Mai

Mai, Martha PicMartha Mai, age 95 of Wichita (formerly of WaKeeney), passed away February 11, 2016 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. She was born June 9, 1920, in Ogallah, to Jacob and Katherine (Kerth) Armbruster.

On July 27, 1941, Martha was united in marriage to Ernest Henry Mai, in WaKeeney. They enjoyed 68 years of marriage together. Ernest passed away June 29, 2010. Martha was a homemaker, who cherished time with her children and grandchildren. She was known for her talent in the kitchen. Her fried chicken and turkey dressing were outstanding, but it was the cinnamon rolls and oatmeal cookies that made you stay.

Martha loved “The Conversation” no matter if you were family, friend or unsuspecting stranger, she made her point with fortitude and endurance. However, she listened with kindness, compassion and great generosity – truly Armbruster.

Martha is survived by two sons, Gene and wife Patty of Sonoma, California, and Lanny and wife Sheila of Wichita; five grandchildren, Jeff Mai and wife Tracy of Melbourne, Australia, Jamie Mai and wife Suzy of Wichita, Valerie Mai of Huntsville, Alabama, Amy and husband Gilbert Alvarez of Wichita, and Chris Mai and wife Linet of Wichita; ten great-grandchildren; and a sister, Loretta Wilson of Mankato. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Ernie and Fritz Armbruster; and four sisters, Edna Weber, Carrie Armbruster, Eva Williams and Olle Modean

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 19, 2016 at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney. Burial will be in the WaKeeney City Cemetery.

She was born September 18, 1917, in Collyer, to Peter J. and Rose (Dreiling) Weigel. Angelita was united in marriage to John David Owens on September 18, 1939. They enjoyed 44 years of marriage before his death on November 29, 1983.

Survivors include three sons, Carroll “Butch” (Carolyn), Tom (Debbie), and Don, all of Park; four daughters, Virginia (Larry) Ruder of Overland Park, Rose Flora of Topeka, Kathy Keller of San Diego, California, and Susie (Jerry) Phlieger of Hays; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; brother, Wilmer Weigel of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and sister, Bertina Swoboda of Omaha, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Daniel “Spud” and Larry; five brothers, Jerry, Levene, Fritz, Otto, and Killian Weigel; and two sisters, Armella Stefan and Helen Keller

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 19, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Park. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Former Phillipsburg resident, Elizabeth M. Weinman, passed away February 16, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Society in Hays, Kansas at the age of 88. She was an Elementary Teacher.

She was born July 28, 1927 in Kirwin, KS the daughter of Harry F. & Bessa (Duncan) Weinman.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Ehrhard; & son, David.

Survivors include 3 sons, Tom of Phillipsburg, Jim of Alliance, NE and Bob of Overland Park, KS; 1 daughter, Mary Shepker of Hays, KS; 6 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.

Family & friends are invited to a luncheon & time of fellowship at noon with the service to follow at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 19, 2016 at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, 1115 2nd Street, Phillipsburg with Pastor Kenton Rohrberg officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg.

Daniel J. Basgall, 62, rural McCracken, Kansas, died Monday, February 15, 2016, at his home.

Mr. Basgall was born April 13, 1953, in La Crosse, Kansas, the son of Everett and Euphrosena (Hartman) Basgall. He was a lifelong resident of Rush County, Kansas. He attended La Crosse High School, La Crosse, Kansas.

He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas.

He enjoyed working on cars, hunting, fishing, and especially hanging out with his children and grandchildren.

On December 18, 1976, he married Janice J. North at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas.

Survivors include: his wife, Janice J. Basgall, rural McCracken, Kansas; two sons, Dane J. Basgall, Antonino, Kansas, and Dylan J. Basgall (Rachel), La Crosse, Kansas; one daughter, Danae J. Younger (Christopher) Hays, Kansas; four grandchildren, Taylan Younger, Jadyn Younger, Katlyn Younger, and Urijah James; six brothers, Ralph Basgall, Wichita, Kansas, Leroy Basgall, Russell, Kansas, Virgil Basgall, Carson City, Nevada, Ronnie Basgall, Kansas City, Raymond Basgall, La Crosse, Kansas, and Tony Basgall, Brownell, Kansas; and one sister, Kathy Hoffman, Wichita, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Melvin Basgall, Harry Basgall, Gerald Basgall, and Bobby Basgall; and one sister, Mary Jane Pittman.

Barbara Jean (Lindsley) Jordan

Barbara Jean (Lindsley) JordanRUSSELL–Barbara Jean (Lindsley) Jordan, 88, of Russell, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Main Street Manor of Russell.

Barbara was born June 2, 1927 in Denver, Colorado, the daughter of Guy and Mable (Dickenson) Lindsley. She grew up on a farm in southeast Kansas near Benedict. She graduated from Fredonia High School in Fredonia, Kansas.

Barbara was united in marriage to Ralph W. Jordan on January 26, 1945 in Independence, Kansas. This union was blessed with two sons; Randall and Monte. In the late 40’s they moved to Russell where she has resided the rest of her life. Ralph preceded her in death on April 3, 1995.

Barbara was a devoted wife and homemaker for her boys. She helped her husband by doing the bookkeeping for Bud’s Fluid Level Services. She was active member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Russell Historical Society and a guide at the Gernon House, a member of the Deines Cultural Center. Ralph and her enjoyed collecting and restoring antiques. She also enjoyed spending time in her flower garden.

Surviving family include her son Randall Jordan (Vickie) of Tulsa, Oklahoma; sister Sharon Galyardt of Everett, Washington; two grandchildren, Jamie Gabriel (Adam) of Lawrence, Kansas and Shane Jordan (Laura) of Telluride, Colorado; four great grandchildren, Matthew, Grace, Simon and Eli. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ralph, and son Monte Jordan.

Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, February 18, 2016 at the Russell City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the mortuary. A Memorial has been established with the Town & Country Animal Hospital. Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.

Kent Deverne Davison

3601565_wlppKent Deverne Davison, 70, passed away at the Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, on Friday, February 12, 2016.

Kent was born August 13, 1945, to Frank G. and Bertha D. (Thomas) Davison. He was raised in
Dighton and graduated from the Dighton High School in 1963. After attending Hutchinson
Junior College for one year, he served in the Army from 1964 – 1967. He then attended Fort
Hays State College and earned his bachelor-of-science degree in 1972.

On November 30, 1968, he married Alvera M. Meier in Sequin, Kansas, and moved to
the family farm southwest of Ness City.

He was a member of the First Christian Church, Dighton. His favorite pastimes were hunting and fishing. He was a life-time farmer-stockman. He enjoyed the gambling of farming, as well as casino gambling.

Kent is survived by his wife; son, Kade Davison and his wife, Krista, of Johnstown,
Colorado; brother, Lyle Davison and his wife, Mary, of Ness City; sister, Myra Munzinger and
her husband, Dick, of Liberty, Missouri; one grandchild, Kaden Champ Davison.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Cremation has taken place. Fitzgerald Funeral Home will be open Thursday, February 18, 9:00 A.M. – 9:00 P.M. and Friday, February 19, 9:00 A.M. – 2:00 P.M. to sign the memorial book.

Vigil will be Friday, February 19, 7:30 P.M. at Sacred Heart Church, Ness City.

Funeral Mass will be Saturday, February 20, 2016, 10:30 A.M. at Sacred Heart Church, Ness City

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ness County Veterans Memorial or Sacred
Heart School.
