Lyle Clifton Glick

Glick, Lyle picLyle Clifton Glick, 72, of Quinter passed away Friday, December 11, 2015 at Gove County Medical Center. Lyle was born on the family farm southwest of Quinter on July 24, 1943 to Delmar and Willadeen (Sharp) Glick. He attended Sunshine School and graduated from Quinter High School, class of 1962.

On August, 17, 1963, Lyle married Janice Ziegler in St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Collyer. He worked for Flex-King for 13 years until his return to the farm in 1974. Lyle was a proud farmer raising Angus cattle,known by all producers in northwest Kansas, and growing wheat and milo. For Lyle, there was never a project too big – he could create something out of anything.

After “retiring” from farming and ranching, Lyle did not slow down. Quality time was spent on the road riding his Harley. When he wasn’t traveling with family and relatives, he spent time cutting iron at DC Welding or harvesting at Porter Farms. Some of his best times were spent with his grandkids giving him plenty of stories to share with others.

Lyle will be missed by many family and friends, including his wife, Janice of the home; 3 sons, Kevin Glick and Brooke Moore of Greeley Colorado, Darin Glick and wife Mary of Quinter, and Waylon Glick of Lenexa; 7 seven grandchildren, Whitney Glick of Austin, TX, Wyatt Glick of Boulder, CO, and Dana Glick of Superior, CO, Caden Glick, Eli Glick and Kyler Glick of Quinter, and Kristin Bishop and husband Tim Bishop of Franklin, IN; and 2 sisters, Ramona McCoy of Cheyenne, WY, and Aurilla Zerr of Quinter.

Preceding him in death were a sister, Levay Deines, and a son, Tad Glick.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Park. Interment  at St. Michael Catholic Cemetery, Collyer.

Visitation will be from 5-7:00p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15th at Schmitt Funeral Home, Quinter. Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Funeral Home.

Dennis Buchholz

566c90e44cce0Dennis Buchholz, age 66, of Ellis, passed away Friday, December 11, 2015 in Ellis after a long battle with cancer. He was born September 29, 1949 in Hays, Kansas to August “Gus” and Emma (Schneider) Buchholz. He graduated from Salina Vo-Tech as a Auto Cad Draftsman. He married Colette Rohr in WaKeeney, Kansas on August 24, 1968.

He was an Auto Cad Drafter for Woods & Starr. He was a Veteran of the US Army, loving husband, father and grandfather. When illness took his ability to work as a draftsman he became a longarm quilter and helped put the “frosting” on many quilts. He donated his quilting abilities to put Quilts of Valor together for other veterans. He especially enjoyed NASCAR and fishing. The most important thing in his life was his family. This was known because of the onery smile that spread across his face when surrounded by loved ones. He was a strong inspiring man always full of unconditional love.

He is survived by his wife Colette of the home; two sons, Tracy Buchholz and wife Jessica of Ogallah, KS and Scott Buchholz and wife Kristine of Ellis; six granddaughters, Jacy, Abigail, Emily, Mollie, Leeah and Emma; two brothers, Bob Buchholz of WaKeeney, KS and Mike Buchholz of Hays, KS; two sisters, Shirley Lahmann of Nevada and Penny Hafliger of WaKeeney, KS; special cousins, Joann, Mary Lou and Ralph as well as nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services will be 10 AM Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at the Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery in WaKeeney, Kansas. Military honors compliments of the Hays VFW and the Legion Riders.

Alberteen Johnson

566c90535e00aAlberteen Johnson, age 94, of Hays, passed away Friday, December 11, 2015 the Good Samaritan Society, Ellis. Alberteen was born near Eldon, Missouri April 16,1921to William and Bernice Gorrell. She grew up on a farm and attended elementary school in Rose, Kansas. She graduated from Yates Center High School in 1938. she was united in marriage to Weldon Johnson.

In February 1948 she moved to Ellis, Kansas. Where she operated the Johnson Funeral Chapel with her husband Weldon until 1975. She moved to Hays, Kansas in 1981.

Alberteen is survived by her husband Weldon of the home. Three daughters Deanna Ziegler of Lawton Oklahoma, Phyllis Bailey of Topeka, Kansas and Janelle Sterling of Merriam, Kansas.

Private family Inurnment will be at a later date in Mount Hope Cemetery, Ellis Kansas.

Joseph Max Zitnik

Joe was born January 9, 1943 in Garden City, Kansas, the son of Joseph & Maxine (Ford) Zitnik. A lifetime resident of Wichita County, Kansas, he was an Educator with over thirty years experience serving and teaching in the Wichita County school system and a farmer/rancher.

Joe was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Leoti, Kansas. He had also served on the Board of Directors for Wichita County Schools and Area Mental Health.

Joe’s surviving family includes-

Curtis Dean ‘Curt’ Coup

Curtis Dean “Curt” Coup, 69, Hays, died Thursday, December 10, 2015 at his home.

He was born May 30, 1946 in Manchester, Kansas the son of Henry and Opal (Fenn) Coup. He was a 1964 graduate of Chapman High School and received his BS degree in Business Administration from Fort Hays State University.

On October 29, 1966 he married Sheryl Kay “Shari” Riffel in Herington, Kansas. He was a salesman for over 40 years with LeFebure Bank Equipment, School Specialty, and Thompson Educational. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Delta Sigma Phi, was a member and Past President of Smoky Hill Country Club, and was also Past President of Hays High School Booster Club. He loved golf and was very active in Senior Men’s Golf, Couple’s Golf, and numerous boards, functions, and tournaments at the club. He was a youth baseball and football coach, a Cub Scout leader, and loved watching sports, especially FHSU and K-State athletics.

Survivors include his wife, of the home in Hays, two sons, Brian Coup and wife Kristy of Fountain Hills, AZ, and Brent Coup and wife Lori of Cave Creek, AZ and five grandchildren, Derek Green, Shelby Coup, Jackson Coup, Bryce Coup, and Paige Coup; a brother Verl Coup and wife Kathy of Talmage, KS, a brother-in-law Larry Riffel and wife Mary Jane of Champaign, IL, sisters-in-law Nancy Coup-Brown of Lawrence and Kathy Ludden and husband Howard of Surprise, AZ, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Tracy Coup.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at the Messiah Lutheran Church, 2000 Main Street, Hays. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date in the Prairie Dale Cemetery in Talmage, KS. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 pm on Monday at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine Street and on Tuesday from 10:00 am until service time at the church.

Bonita Lou ‘Bonnie’ Schenk

Bonita Lou “Bonnie” Schenk, 67, Hays, died Thursday, December 10, 2015 at the Peabody Care Center, Peabody, Kansas.

She was born November 28, 1948 in Hays, Kansas the daughter of Marvin and Millie (Dreher) Schumacher. On April 20, 1968 she married Alan Schenk in Hays. He died on April 2, 2005. She retired as a medical receptionist from St. Anthony’s Hospital and from the Hays Daily News after 25 years in customer service. She had a caring heart, beautiful smile, and was a mother hen to everyone. Crocheting was her passion and she loved Christmas. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.

Survivors include her father, Marvin “Shorty” Schumacher, three daughters, Tracy Quinn and husband Richard of Hays, Jody Keberlein and husband Kris of Mission, Kansas, and Nichole Miller and husband Addison of Assaria, Kansas, three grandchildren, Creighton Keberlein, Lisa Quinn, and Emily Quinn, one brother, Tom Schumacher of Hays and two sisters, Gloria Pfeifer of Hays and Tammy Parmer of Spring, Texas, and Nichole and Addison’s St. Bernard, General George S. Patton.
She was preceded in death by her mother, her husband, and a granddaughter Tia Marie Quinn.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 21, 2015 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 1805 Vine Street, Hays. Inurnment will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine and from 9:30 until 10:30 am on Monday at the church.

A rosary and vigil service will be at 7:15 pm on Sunday at the funeral home.

She was a homemaker, a substitute cook and assistant cook at Fort Hays Sate University and U.S.D. 489, Hays, KS. She was member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella, Christian Mothers Altar Society and V.F.W. Auxiliary all of Hays, KS.

Survivors include her husband, Maynard L. Evans, Via Christi Village Hays, KS; one daughter, Diane and husband, Harry, Schukman, Knoxville, TN; two grandchildren, Evan Christopher Schukman and Malea Dyan Schukman, both of Knoxville, TN; four brothers, Emery Schmidt and wife, Shirley, Catharine, KS; Adolph Schmidt and wife, DeAnn, Gerald Schmidt and wife, Elaine, Elmer Schmidt and wife, Rosie, all of Hays, KS; one sister Cora Dortland, Gorham, KS; one sister-in-law, Esther Schmidt, Hays, KS.

Lorraine Nellie Ross

Ross, Lorraine PicLorraine Nellie Ross, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and best friend returned home to her Loving Heavenly Father December 8, 2015.

Mrs. Ross lived 91 years, was born May 10, 1924 in Studley, Kansas, and passed peacefully in Hays, Kansas while surrounded by family. She received Jesus into her heart at age 15 while herding cattle and prayed and worshiped our Lord every day.
Lorraine loved crafts, sewing, and working outdoors with flowers. She was an artist with a passion for birds, wildflowers, and nature scenes.

She enjoyed walking and talking with her son, having quiet time with her husband, tending her garden, and traveling with her son, husband, and her son’s family.  Her happiest moments occurred when she was with her granddaughters.

As a youth, Lorraine treasured the time with her dad, learned how to cook from her mom, and played with her sisters and brothers. As a young lady, she fell in love with her husband John. As a wife, she cared for her daughter, Linda, and waited patiently for John to return from two wars.  She healed from injuries that occurred when a tornado took their home, helped her husband remodel a new home, and had a small sewing business.

Lorraine took special pride in her son’s accomplishments and helped John grow as a person.  In her later years, she displayed her art at shows and delivered home-made crafts and food to the WaKeeney Manor.  She rejoiced in the births of her granddaughter’s Serena, Emily, and Janae and had a special mother-daughter relationship with her daughter-in-law, Sharon.

In her last year, Lorraine demonstrated courage, strength, and faith as she battled cancer and heart disease.  She was known for her sweet and caring character.

Lorraine was the third of seven children of Clyde and Emma (Fairchild) Bell. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters Clytia and Erma. She is survived by her sister Eileen Johnson of Woodward, Oklahoma, brother Lloyd Bell of Illinois, her husband, John C. Ross of WaKeeney/Ellis, her daughter, Linda J. Menges (Chuck) of Woodland Park, Colorado, her son, John A. Ross (Sharon) of Ellis, grandchildren Chris Menges, Jenifer Menges, Tyler James Menges, Brian Menges, Serena Ross, Emily Ross, and Janae Ross, and great-grandson Wyatt Gardner.

Funeral Services will be at 2pm Friday Dec. 11, 2015 at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney. Visitation will be from 1-2pm Friday at the Funeral Home. Burial to follow at WaKeeney City Cemetery.

Miriam S. (Bellendir) Wasinger

Miriam Wasinger - Paper PictureThe world has lost a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend. On Tuesday, December 8, 2015, Miriam S. (Bellendir) Wasinger, 93, went to live with her loving savior, husband, sons, parents, brothers & sisters.

Miriam was born on April 30, 1922, in Wamego, Kansas to Adam & Catherine (Brungardt) Bellendir.  She married Andrew J. Wasinger on July 19, 1944, in Victoria, Kansas.  He died January 3, 1993.

Miriam spent most of her life as a stay at home mom taking care of her son, Clifford.  She was a founding member of the Anderson School of Hope in Victoria, Kansas.  She worked 20 years as a Senior Companion at St. John’s Rest Home in Victoria until its closure in 2012.   She was a member of The Basilica of St. Fidelis, Daughters of Isabella and Christian Mothers Altar Society all of Victoria, Kansas. She lived the last year at the Good Samaritan Society of Hays.

Miriam was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew of 49 years; sons, Ronald, Clifford and John; parents; brothers, Vitus, Ralph, Vernon, Vitus and Marvin; sisters, Rita Scheck & Bernadette Baier.

Pratt, KS – Glenda D. McClurg, 68, of Pratt, KS, died Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Pratt Regional Medical Center, Pratt, KS.

She was born on March 11, 1947 in Hays, KS, the daughter of Rollie F. Anderson and Carol (Eicher) Anderson. On June 2, 1984, she married Charles E. McClurg in Plainville, KS. He survives.

Glenda was an Endoscopy Technician at Pratt Regional Medical Center and a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Plainville, KS.

Surviving in addition to her husband, Charles E. McClurg of Pratt, KS are four sons, Michael P. Havlas of Olathe, KS, Matthew (Daryl) Havlas of Quinter, KS, Glen William McClurg of Hays, KS, & Patrick Lee (Kimberley) McClurg of Liberal, KS; one daughter, Melissa Jo (Richard) Blake of Derby, KS; 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; one brother, David Anderson of Salina, KS; Several nieces and nephews.

Glenda was preceded in death by her parents.
