Houston (Hugh) G Stubbs, 94, Grainfield, died Wednesday, November 25, 2015, at the Gove County Medical Center, Long Term Care, Quinter. He was born July 11, 1921, on the family farm near Grainfield, the son of John James and Katherine M (Birrer) Stubbs.

He was raised on the farm and graduated from Grainfield Rural High School in 1939 and served in the US Navy during World War II. Mr. Stubbs was a farmer who owned and operated Stubbs Radio and TV, Grainfield. He was also an electronics instructor at Northwest Kansas Area Vocational-Technical School, Goodland. Mr. Stubbs was a member of the American Legion Post 301, Grainfield, Masonic Lodge No. 410, and Eastern Star Millbrook Chapter 108, both of Quinter.

He married Louise M Hough on July 5, 1945, in Topeka, Kansas. She died in March, 1999. Mr. Stubbs was also preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Gail E Stubbs, and sisters Marguerite J Stubbs and Louise S Parrish, and a daughter, Sheryl L Colvin. Survivors include two sons, John H (Eunice) Stubbs, Abilene, and Keith A Stubbs, Grainfield; grandsons, Eric (Jamie) Stubbs, Abilene and Clayton (Michaela) Stubbs, Topeka, and granddaughters, Heather Clark, Parker, CO, and Mary Stubbs, Naperville, IL, one great grandson and three great granddaughters.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 am, Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at the United Methodist Church, Grainfield. Burial will be in Grainfield Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Regina Marie Dinkel Wendt, age 89, passed away on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at Greeley County Hospital in Tribune, Kansas. Regina was born at St. Peter, Kansas on January 7, 1926, the daughter of Mike and Rosalia Dinkel.

Regina moved to NE Greeley County with her family in 1928 and later attended the Cactus and Mt. Hope Schools. In 1940 the family moved into Tribune. At age 17 she found work with the Chase Hunt family and a year later met her husband to be, Norman Wendt. They were married on October 28, 1944. Norman and Regina farmed locally for a few years and then were persuaded by a land owner from South Dakota to come there and help with his farm, so they moved to South Dakota. Three years later they returned to Kansas where they farmed land in NE Greeley County until Norman’s death in February 1997. They had purchased a home in Tribune in 1985, and this is where she made her home after selling the farm.

Regina served as Manager of the Tribune Senior Center for six years, also worked at Helmwood Care Home and the Greeley County Hospital. She cooked at Goodies Restaurant for four years.

Regina enjoyed playing bridge, was a member of the North HDU, loved all animals and worked alongside her husband driving the wheat trucks, etc. She loved being outside. Her sister, Maggie remembers playing softball with Regina and laughs at her ability to knock the ball for a homer many, many times. Regina always raised a huge garden, and was a great cook! Both Norman and Regina were active in Thrifty Thrivers 4-H Club for several years helping members with their projects. She was a long time member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tribune.

Regina is survived by her two sons and their wives. Kenneth and Claudia Wendt, their two sons, Eric and Jeremy of Alice, TX and Jerry and Toni Wendt and three daughters, Jennifer, Tina and Robyn of Dayton, WY. Her sisters, Leona Billinger of Derby, KS and Maggie Carter of Aurora, CO. A brother, CJ Dinkel from Redwood City, CA and Aunt Katie, from Hutchinson, KS who will celebrate her 104th Birthday in April.

Her husband, Norman, her parents Mike and Rosalia Dinkel, her brother, Joe, her sister Mary, two brothers-in-law, Henry Woods and Ed Billinger, two sisters-in-law Ann Dinkel and Dorothy Dinkel, a granddaughter, Miracle Anne Wendt, one nephew and two nieces and many Uncles and Aunts precede her in death.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm (MST), Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at Greeley County Cemetery in Tribune, Kansas with Father Ben Martin officiating.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Inurnment will be at the Tribune Cemetery.

Hays, Kansas- Albert R. Braun, age 80, died Tuesday, November 24, 2015, at the Harry Hynes Hospice Center at Via Christi St. Francis Wichita, Kansas.

He was born November 13, 1935, on the family farm northwest of Victoria, Kansas, to Raymond P. and Agnes (Staab) Braun. He married Stella (Huser) on May 14, 1955, at Vincent, Kansas.

He was a lifelong farmer, oil well owner & operator, master carpenter & builder, and a square dance caller & teacher throughout the region for 40 years. He was a1953 graduate of Victoria High School. He was a member of The Basilica of St. Fidelis, 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree Assembly Knights of Columbus all of Victoria, Kansas. Also a member of the Hays Arts Council and Northwest Kansas Square Dance Callers Association.

Survivors include his wife, Stella Braun of the home; one son Douglas Braun and wife, Machell, Victoria, KS; three daughters, Brenda Meder (Tim), Hays, KS; Linda Beilman and husband, Mike, Eudora, KS; Doreen Koerner and husband Tim, Victoria, KS; one brother, John Braun and wife, Josie, Victoria, KS; two sisters, Clara Baier, Seattle WA; Theresa Kuhn, Victoria, KS; one brother-in-law, Clarence Leiker, Hutchinson, KS; ten grandchildren, Nate Meder (Sara), Heath Meder (Kelli), Leah Hansen (Andrew), Bethany Stadalman (Kyle), Lindsey Lisenby (Jeromy), Scott Koerner (Janelle), Evan Koerner (Katy), Kendra, Heather and Katherine Braun; 12 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Roxann Marie Braun; two brothers, Charles (Lucille and Lillian) Braun, Elmer Braun; three sisters, Irene Leiker, Fidelia Honas (Eddie) and Lillian Braun.

Services are 10:00 A.M. Saturday, November 28, 2015, at The Basilica of St Fidelis Victoria, Kansas. Burial in St. Fidelis Cemetery Victoria, Kansas.

A Daughters of Isabella/Christian Mothers rosary is at 6:30 P.M. Friday, a vigil service is at 7:00 P.M. Friday, a 3rd Degree and 4th Degree rosary at 7:30 P.M. Friday, all at The Basilica of St. Fidelis Victoria, Kansas. The 4th Degree Knights of Columbus will stand honor guard from 6:30 to 7:30 P.M. Friday at The Basilica of St. Fidelis.

Dolene Heckert, age 95, passed away on Sunday, November 22, 2015 at Greeley County Long Term Care in Tribune, Kansas. Dolene was born August 13, 1920 in Anson, Texas, the daughter of August & Emma ( Fisher ) Buske, Jr. A resident of Greeley County, Kansas since 1945, she was a farm wife and homemaker.

Dolene worked hard all of her life, first on her parents’ cotton farm in Texas, and then with her husband Elmer on their own farm. She will forever be remembered as an amazing cook. Some of her family’s favorites were her fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy; Chocolate sheet cake with Granny Herkert’s icing; and made from scratch coconut cream and chocolate cream pies, made with Mrs. Rozean’s pie crust recipe. Her grandchildren could always count on finding her crystal candy bowl full of fun-size Twix candy bars and candied orange slices.

Dolene was a member of the United Methodist Church in Tribune, Kansas.

On June 25, 1943 she married Elmer Heckert at Anson, Texas. Elmer passed away on August 7, 2015 in Tribune, Kansas.

Graveside services for Dolene and Elmer will be held at 2:00 pm ( MDT ) Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Greeley County Cemetery in Tribune, Kansas with the Reverend Wayne Stephens presiding. Military honors for Elmer will be provided by The United States Army Funeral Detail.

Lifelong Rooks County resident Eugene “Gene” Hrabe passed away Thursday, November 19, 2015 at Solomon Valley Manor, Stockton. He was 85 years of age. Gene was born May 19, 1930, in Plainville, the son of the late Frank and Laura May (Kopsa) Hrabe.

Gene was a 1948 graduate of Codell High School. He went to serve our country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was enlisted from 1948 to 1952, and earned the rank of Sergeant First Class. During his service, he was stationed at Ft. Knox, Kentucky, Ft. Bliss, Texas, Ft. Belvoir, Virginia, and Ft. Lewis, Washington (for engineer school). He spent two years in Korea, having earned 5 Bronze Stars. Gene was missing in action for a short period of time while deployed. He was very proud to have served our nation in a time of war.

Gene was united in marriage to Rita Schindler on August 17, 1952. To this union, three children were born. They enjoyed 63 years of marriage together. He worked for Rooks County Road Department, and Schult Homes. Gene and family owned and operated Hrabe Jersey Farms for 45 years. They raised dairy and beef cattle, hogs, sheep, and lambs. He was instrumental in many successful Rooks County Free Fairs, as he served on the Fair Board from 1975 to 1993, and was president for many of those years. Gene had a place in his heart for children’s education. He served as member and past president of the Stockton USD 271 School Board from 1979 to 1983. He was a 4-H leader for many years, and was a member of the Dairy Farmers of America. Gene was a life member of Stockton VFW Post 8873, volunteering his time for many events, including funerals of fellow veterans.

Gene was known for speaking his mind, and his sense of humor. He loved to meet people and always looked forward to visits with friends and family. He was always there to cheer on his children and grandchildren in their school and sporting events. He cared deeply for his family, and always looked forward to family gatherings. Gene will be dearly missed by many.

Those left to mourn his passing are his wife, Rita of the family home; a daughter, Debra and husband Leo Inglsbee of Stockton; a son, Dean and wife Marcia of Stockton; five grandchildren, Weston Inglsbee (Heidi) of Bennett, Colorado, Wade Inglsbee (Jacque Kollman) of Salina, Whitney Inglsbee (James Ehrlich) of Stockton, Courtney Flower (Logan) of Stockton, and Cody Hrabe of Stockton; five great-granchildren, Taylor, Tanner, Kinley, Lexi, and Cole; and a brother, Normand and wife Zoe of Stockton. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Dennis; sisters Euline Holubar and Dorrine Dix; and a nephew, John Stahl.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at the Assembly of God Church, Stockton. Burial will take place immediately after at the Stockton City Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday evening from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the church in Stockton.
