Margaret Helen Brenner

3338286_wlppMargaret Helen Brenner, age 85, passed away at Cedar Village Long Term Care, Ness City, Kansas on Friday, October 2, 2015.

She was born on October 13, 1929 near Redwing, Kansas, the daughter of Julius and Mathilda Boor Klug.

She was a homemaker and a member of St. Theresa’s Altar Society, Dighton, Kansas

On February 25, 1957, she married Ben Brenner in Odin, Kansas. They lived north of Bazine for 17 years and lived on the Triple Bar Ranch near Beeler for 40 years.

She is survived by her husband Ben, Ness City, KS; sons, Ronald Brenner, Ness City, KS, Darrell (Barbara) Brenner, Ness City, Gary (Marya) Brenner, Beeler, KS, Douglas Brenner, Oakley, KS, Randall (Kathy) Brenner, Ness City; daughters, Rhonda (Glenn) Stramel, Munjor, KS, Carolyn (Claude) Durler, Dodge City, KS, Diane (Cedric) Drewes, Dodge City; brothers, Leon (Lois) Klug, Hoisington, KS, James Klug, Odin, KS; 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Alois “Lou” Klug; sister, Eleanor Reif, and infant grandson, Brian Stramel.

Viewing will be at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Sunday, October 4, 2015, 10:00 A.M. – 9:00 P.M. and Monday, October 5, 9:00 A.M. – 2:00 P.M.

Parish Vigil will be at Sacred Heart Church, Ness City, Monday, October, 5, 6:30 P.M.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, October 6, 2015, 11:00 A.M. at Sacred Heart Church, Ness City.

Burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery, McCracken, KS.

Mary Kay Stenger

Mary Kay StengerMary Kay Stenger, 70, Topeka, died Friday, September 25, 2015 at her home.

She was born January 5, 1945 the daughter of Paul and Margie (Wolf) Stenger. She was a school psychologist. Prior, she worked in the juvenile justice field and was a pioneer in the studies of linking delinquency and learning disabilities.

Mary Kay retired from Seaman USD 345. She loved her family, her faith, and her friends.

She is survived by her brothers and sisters, Paul Stenger and wife Anne of Arlington, VA, Vicki Willenborg and spouse Karen Hyland of Kansas City, MO, Mike Stenger and Pat Stenger of Topeka, Steve Stenger of Holton, Kansas, David Stenger of Topeka, and Suellyn Stenger of Hays, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Donnie Stenger.

Her body was donated to The University of Kansas Medical Center.

Mary Kay’s life will be celebrated with Mass of Resurrection at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at Mater Dei (Holy Name) Church, 1114 SW 10th, Topeka. Interment will be at a later date in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays, Kansas.  Memorials are suggested to the Mater Dei parish or to family wishes.

Eric J. ‘Rick’ Legleiter

Eric J. “Rick” Legleiter, 58, Hays, Kansas, formerly of La Crosse, Kansas, died Tuesday, September 29, 2015, at the Hays Good Samaritan Center, Hays, Kansas.

Mr. Legleiter was born December 9, 1956, in La Crosse, Kansas, the son of Alvin and Delores (Zimmerman) Legleiter. He lived most of his life in La Crosse, Kansas, until recently becoming a resident of Hays, Kansas, moving there from Russell, Kansas. He was a 1976 graduate of Hays High School, Hays, Kansas. While living in La Crosse, he worked for La Crosse Furniture Company.

He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas; a former member of Knights of Columbus Council #2970, La Crosse, Kansas; and a member of several organizations affiliated with Developmental Services Of Northwest Kansas (DSNWK), Russell, Kansas.

Survivors include: four brothers, Gerard Legleiter (Karen), Sterling, Kansas, Timothy Legleiter, Pratt, Kansas, Florian Legleiter (Dianne), Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Kurt Legleiter (Mary), Paso Robles, California; two sisters, Gerianne Kuntzsch (Carl), Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Mary Jo Tammen (Kent), Hays, Kansas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be Friday, October 2, 2015, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, Kansas. A vigil service and rosary will be at 7:00 P.M. Church visitation will be Saturday, October 3, 2015, from 9:00 A.M. to 9:50 A.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas.

Funeral service will be Saturday, October 3, 2015, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas, with Father Matthew Kumi officiating. Interment will be in the La Crosse City Cemetery, La Crosse, Kansas.

Steven Harkness

Steven Harkness, age 66, of Hays passed away Friday, September 25, 2015 in Hays. He was born June 17, 1949 in Ransom, Kansas to Vance and Lois (Wyrill) Harkness.

He was a self-employed artist by trade.

He is survived by two daughters, Michelle Harkness, Kansas City, MO and  Amanda Harkness, Hays, KS; a Brother Gary Harkness, and wife Linda Harkness, Larned, KS and a sister Jane Spiess, and husband Jim Spiess, Wichita KS.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be 2 PM Saturday, October 3, 2015 at the Ransom United Methodist Church in Ransom, KS. with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

Doris M. Bradley

Former Naponee, Neb., resident Doris M. Bradley passed away Monday, Sept. 28, 2015, at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita at the age of 79.

She was born August 18, 1936, the daughter of Loren & Jeannette (Brouliette) Townsend. Her husband, Lyle, preceded her in death.

She is survived by three sons: Wendell, of Atlanta, GA and Damon and Todd, both of Naponee, NE; a daughter, Diana Losey, of Wichita, KS; 12 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in the Naponee Wesleyan Church, Naponee, NE, with Rev. Scott Randall officiating. Burial will follow in the Germantown Cemetery, Smith County, KS.

Mrs. Bradley will lie in-state on Thursday, Oct. 1, from 5-9 p.m. and Friday, Oct. 2, from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel in Phillipsburg, KS.

Norene Farmer Smith

560b06e1e5c98Norene Farmer Smith, age 87, of Ellis, KS passed away Monday, September 28, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Society, Ellis. She was born May 12, 1928 in Gainesville, MO to Arnold H. and Lucy (Shelton) Farmer. She grew up on a farm outside of Gainesville and attended Gainesville High School. She married Doyne P. Smith of Sycamore, MO on July 23, 1946 in Mountain Home, AR. He preceded her in death December 14, 2001.

She was a homemaker and had lived in the Ellis since 1959. She cofounded with her husband Doyne and helped run Triangle Well Service.

She is survived by a son, Rick Smith and wife Sheryl of Buhler, KS; three grandchildren, Tara Goans and husband Lonnie of Buhler, Mindy Fry and husband Andy of Desoto, KS and Brett Smith and wife Julie of Paola, KS; a sister, Geraldine Smith of Rogersville, AR; five great grandchildren, Colton, Alyson and Ty Goans, Mason Fry and Bella Smith as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant granddaughter, Tayllor Paige Goans and a brother, Arnold D. Farmer.

Funeral services will be 10 am Friday, October 2, 2015 at Keithley Funeral Chapel 400 E 17th Ellis, KS 67637. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Ellis.

Visitation will be Thursday 5 pm – 8 pm with family present from 7-8. Friday visitation will be 9 am until service time.

Thelma Oenita ‘Jan’ Cooper Gantz

Thelma Oenita “Jan” Cooper Gantz, age 92, passed away Sunday, September 27, 2015, at Cedar Village, Ness City, Kansas.

Jan was born on May 6, 1923, in New Nata, Arkansas the daughter of W.W. and Leona (Avey) Cooper. In 1950 she moved to Ness City where she met Robert Gantz. They were married on April 9, 1952 in Ness City.

She was a high school English teacher and drama coach, an author, and a homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Ness County Bank Building Foundation, both of Ness City.

She is survived by her husband; son, Gary Gantz and his wife Jodi of Ness City; and two daughters, Paula Ripple and her husband, Dr. David, of Dodge City and Ann Matz and her husband, Kurt, of Phoenix, Arizona; seven grandchildren, Zachary and Cody Matz, Wade, Colby, and Dalton Gantz, Jacob Ripple, and Shelley Rodriguez and a great granddaughter, Adi.

She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Thurman Cooper and Grady Cooper and her three sisters, Loys Ballard, Genevra Burke, and Malva Sively.

Funeral services will be on Friday, October 2, 2015, 10:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church, Ness City. Burial in the Ness City Cemetery.

Friends may call at Fitzgerald Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. and on Thursday from 9:00 A.M. until 9:00 P.M. with the family present from 6-8 P.M.

Werner Wallace

Werner WallaceWerner Wallace, 76, Hays, died Sunday, September 27, 2015, at the Hays Medical Center.

He was born July 8, 1939, in Hamburg, Germany, the son of Gertrude Vollus. He attended elementary school in Germany and graduated from High School in the United States. He then went on to trade school to learn to be a machinist. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy where he was a Jet Aircraft Servicer. He was a member of the North Oak Community Church, the North Oak Men’s Fraternity, Dr. Martin’s Sunday School Class, the Hays Senior Companions, and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.

Survivors include a niece, Heidi Larson of Chesterfield, PA and a brother in law, Eric Wellmann of Wayne, PA.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Betty Wellmann.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2015, at the North Oak Community Church, 3000 Oak Street, Hays. Burial with military honors by the Hays VFW Post #9076 honor guard will follow in the Kansas Veterans Cemetery, WaKeeney. Visitation will be from 9:30 am until service time on Wednesday at the church.

Janice E. Arnberger

Janice E. Arnberger, 72, of Oakley, died Monday, September 28, 2015 at Salina Regional Health Center. She was born September 2, 1943 in Benton, KS, to Everett and Maxine (Moritz) Nelson. Janice married Francis “Babe” Arnberger on November 30, 1961, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Oakley. She worked for Southwestern Bell for eleven years and at the Oakley Public School for thirty four years. Janice enjoyed playing pitch at the Country Club, sewing and relaxing at Trenton Lake. She loved watching KU basketball and all of her grandchildren’s activities.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents and son Curtis Arnberger.

She is survived by her husband, Babe, Oakley; son, Blake (Kathy) Arnberger, Colby; sister, Gail (Leon) Wegele, Leander, TX and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at Baalmann Mortuary, Oakley, with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m.. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 1, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Oakley.

Glen F. Staats

Glen F. Staats, age 84, passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at his home in Cimarron, Kansas. He was born on May 12, 1931 in Copeland, Kansas, the son of Perry V. And Lula Belle Clements Staats. He was a rancher and farmer in Logan County, Kansas from 1958 until he retired in 1996. A Scott City resident from 2001 to 2011 when he moved to Cimarron, Kansas.

On August 6, 1949 he married Marjy L. Standley in Hutchinson, Kansas. She passed away on October 21, 2010 in Wichita, Kansas.

Survivors include her One Son – Ron Staats of Cimarron, Kansas, One Daughter – Glenda Staats of Kansas City, Missouri, Three Sisters – Elsie Trahern of Cimarron, Kansas, Emma Bateman of Washington State, Neva June Bright of Florala, Alabama, Six Grandchildren and Seven Great Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his Parents, One Son – Danny Staats, Three Brothers, Five Sisters and One Grandson.

Funeral Services will be held at Price & Sons Funeral Home of Scott City, Kansas 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 26, 2015 with Steve Payne presiding.

Waunita May Gilmore

Waunita was born August 29, 1939 in Leoti, Kansas, the daughter of Fred & Lucille (Wilken) Graf. She was a 1956 graduate of Wichita County High School in Leoti, Kansas. She was a Homemaker, Farm Wife, and Librarian and served as a Para at the Wichita County Junior High.

Waunita was a member of the United Methodist Church in Leoti, Kansas. She was also a member of the Eastern Star, was a former Cub Scout Den Mother, and an Aide at Special Olympics across the state.

On July 15, 1956 she married Lloyd E. Gilmore at Leoti, Lloyd passed away on December 14, 2001 in Scott City, Kansas.

Donald A. Taylor

Donald A. Taylor, age 70, passed away at his home in Wallace County, Kansas on Friday, September 25, 2015. He was born on December 15, 1944 in Flagler, Colorado, the son Charles Henry and Bertha Elizabeth Beckner Taylor. A resident of Wallace County, Kansas since 2007 moving from Salem, Missouri, he was a Truck Driver and Herdsman on dairy farms.

He was a US Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War from 1962 to 1966 and a member of the Dinas Community Church of Wallace, Kansas, American Legion Post #0336 of Sharon Springs, Kansas, VFW Post #7521 of Tribune, Kansas and was a DAV Member. Donald enjoyed woodworking, coon hunting and spoiling his grandchildren.

On February 11, 1967 he married Margaret N. Cullens in Weskan, Kansas. She survives.

He was preceded in death by his Parents, Two Brothers- Dale Taylor and James Taylor and One Grand Daughter – Christal.

Funeral Services will be held at the Dinas Community Church in Wallace, Kansas at 2:00 p.m. M.T. Thursday, October 1, 2015 with the Rev. Paul McNall presiding.

Interment will be in the Dinas Community Church Cemetery in Wallace, Kansas.
