Allie Saum

SALINA— Allie Marie Saum went into the Lord’s arms on Thursday, May 7, 2015 following a senseless act of violence. Allie, 17, is the beloved daughter of Danny Saum and Tina Ellis. Born September 13, 1997 in Salina, Allie was a junior at Salina South High School and worked part-time at Jasperson Chiropractic Clinic.

Allie’s surviving immediate family includes her parents, big brother, Jacob Saum, her paternal grandparents, Dale and Joyce Saum, her maternal grandparents, Vickie and Louis Kibler, and niece, Scotlyn Allen, in additional to numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Allie is preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Charles E. Rice, Sr., and her great-grandmother, Rose Ann Little, who passed away only days before Allie.

Allie was known for her genuine kindness and happiness. She cared deeply for those around her and would put others before herself without a second thought. Allie gave generously of her time to her family and friends and was always there with her beautiful smile and laugh. She is a member of the First Baptist Church in Salina and made the decision to mark her strong personal faith in Jesus Christ by being baptized on April 13, 2014. Allie will always be dearly loved and greatly missed.

Funeral services to celebrate Allie’s life will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12 at the First Baptist Church, 843 Lewis Avenue, Salina. There will be a private family burial.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Allie Saum Memorial Trust in care of Sunflower Bank at any of the three Salina locations or mailed to the bank at 2070 South Ohio, P.O. Box 800, Salina, KS 67402. Ryan Mortuary of Salina will be handling the arrangements.

Arthur F. ‘Art’ VonFeldt

Victoria, Kansas – Arthur F. “Art” VonFeldt, age 91, died Saturday, May 9, 2015, at Hays Medical Center Hays, Kansas.

He was born July, 26, 1923, in Vincent, Kansas to Frank G. and Angela (Weigel) VonFeldt. He married Joan (Mermis) on May 11, 1949, in Walker, Kansas.

He was a farmer. He served on the Vincent Grade School Board, the St. Boniface Church Committee and moved to Victoria in 1989. He was a WWII US Army Veteran and served as a Staff Sergeant with the 107 Medical Battalion. He was a member of The Basilica of St. Fidelis, V.F.W. Post No. 1751, Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree and the 4th Degree Assembly all of Victoria, Kansas.

Survivors include his wife, Joan VonFeldt, of the home; one son, Steven A. VonFeldt and wife, Teri, Vincent, KS; one daughter, Linda Reardon, Victoria, KS; two brothers, Leo VonFeldt and wife, Dorothy, Palco, KS; Karlos VonFeldt and wife, Sue, Topeka, KS; two sisters, Charlotte Sanders, Topeka, KS; Winifreda Beckwith, Roseburg, OR; four grandchildren, Stacy (Salman) Sheikh, Tristin (Adam) Brull, Angie (Brett) Steinheider, Scott (Rachel) VonFeldt; eleven great grandchildren, Anna, Addyson and Aspen Brull; Ryad, Raya and Rayna Sheikh; Avery and Brecklyn Steinheider; Camri, Kaden and Konnor VonFeldt.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Isabell Standley, Alma Sherlock, Mabel Hayes, Mary Louise Dreiling; and two infant brothers, Ernest and Charles VonFeldt.

Services are 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at The Basilica of St. Fidelis Victoria, Kansas. Burial in St. Fidelis Cemetery Victoria, Kansas with military honors by the Victoria V.F.W. Post No. 1751.

A vigil service is at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, a V.F.W. / Knights of Columbus 3rd and 4th Degree rosary is at 7:00 p.m. Tuesdays, and a Daughters of Isabella rosary is at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, all at Cline’s Mortuary, 412 Main Street, Victoria, Kansas 67671. Donovan was a long time educator earning his teaching degree from Fort Hays State University and a Masters + 60 in mathematics from Kansas University. His teaching career started in Mankato, KS and then Jamestown, KS, Phoenix, AZ, Phillipsburg, KS, Bremerhaven, Germany for one year, Norton, KS. His final ten years as a full time educator he was at Kansas Technical Institute in Salina, KS. After retirement he was a substitute teacher in McPherson, KS and surrounding communities.

He was a US Navy veteran and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in McPherson. He enjoyed playing bridge, golf and being a golf instructor. He was also an avid KU Basketball fan.

He is survived by his wife, Rita of McPherson; four daughters, Janet Jones of Tucson, AZ, Deborah Reece and husband Ed of Farmington, NM, Tamara Streit and husband Victor of Salina and Donna Ward and husband Dave of Hays; a brother, Wayne Cassatt of Sedona, AZ; a sister, Deanie Larson of Austin, TX; nine grandchildren, Bryan Jones, Derrick Jones, Joshua Cassatt, Levi Reece, Christopher Reece, Austin Streit, Jenna Miller, Tara Gillespie and Jaclynn Ward, and four great grandchildren, Beatrice Cassatt, Evelyn Miller, Jackson Gillespie and Greyson Gillespie.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Matthew Thomas Ward.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in McPherson, Kansas. Inurnment will be at 11:00 AM Friday at St. Fidelis Cemetery in Victoria.

Mary worked for Enersys of Hays for 24 years currently as a Traffic Coordinator. She was a member of Westview church in Hays. She enjoyed camping and being outdoors, working out with friends at the Hays Rec. and traveling to family members homes for visits.

Mae ‘Elizabeth’ (Moore) Lindberg

Mae “Elizabeth” (Moore) Lindberg was born December 5, 1920 near Palco to LeRoy and Effie (Coddington) Moore. She passed away Sunday, May 3, 2015 at Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital, WaKeeney. She was 94 years of age.

Elizabeth attended grade school and two years in high school there until they moved to Gravette, Arkansas to escape the horrible dust storms in 1936. She finished high school there. The family moved back to Palco the same year in 1938.

She started teaching in the country elementary schools and gradually added more college until she had a Bachelor of Science degree from Fort Hays. She progressed from teaching grade school through high school, adding more college and a Master’s Degree. She then decided to pursue another profession. She graduated from Northwest Nazarene Nursing School, and worked as a Registered Nurse until her health prevented it. On February 12, 1983, Elizabeth married LaVerne Lindberg. They enjoyed thirty years of marriage until his death on August 3, 2013. She had many hobbies, including music, leather crafting, photography, music, traveling, oil painting, and quilting.

Survivors include five cousins, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 8, 2015 at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney. Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery, rural Palco.

Visitation will be Thursday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Harold Dean Mai, of Loveland, CO died April 30, 2015, at home at the age of 77 years old.

Harold was born November 9th, 1937 on the family farm southeast of Russell. The son of Charley & Dolly Mai (Bender). He grew up and attended country school in the Russell area. He then served in the US Military for 2 years as a sharp shooter for the Army. He was station in Germany.

Harold was united in marriage to Sherrill Boxberger on September 12, 1959, in Stockton, KS. Harold was engaged in wheat farming North of Russell for many years in the Woodston/Stockton areas. In 1971, Harold and his family moved to Colorado where he was a truck driver, until his retirement. Harold enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved hot rods, fishing, golfing, and polka dancing.

Surviving family include his wife Sherry, two daughters; Darlene & husband Jim Ehrlich of Windsor, CO. Marla & husband Brad Lynch of Rapid City SD. one son Chuck Mai & wife Michelle of Loveland CO. one brother Vernon Mai of Redcloud NE. 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and his beloved pet Kibo.

Richard Lee Letsch

Richard Lee Letsch, 91, of Luray, Kansas, passed away Sunday morning, May 3, 2015 at the Parkview Care Center in Osborne, Kansas.

Richard was born March 23, 1924 on a farm southeast of Luray, Kansas, the son of Charles and Julia (Steinle) Letsch. He grew up north of Luray and graduated from Luray High School.

Richard served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He served in the Pacific Theater on the U.S.S. Rotanion Aircraft Carrier. After the war, he returned to the Luray area.

Richard was united in marriage to Cecilia “Sally” Boden on June 8, 1948 in Osborne, Kansas. This union was blessed with three children; Shirley, Ronald and Dennis. They made their home north of Luray until 1958 when they moved close to town. Cecilia preceded him in death on December 25, 2000.

Richard has been a farmer his whole life. He was an owner and operator of the Letsch Custom Harvesting for over 23 years. He covered areas in South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas and Oklahoma. He also worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation in the maintenance department for a few years in the early 1970’s. He drove the school bus for USD 407 in Luray for over 24 years. He was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Russell and was a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus. He was a life member of the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240, the Russell Elks Lodge and the Luray American Legion Post. He enjoyed square dancing and was a member of the Levis & Lace Dancing group.

Surviving family include his two sons; Ronald Letsch (Glenna) and Dennis Letsch (Jeannine DeWitt) all of Luray, Kansas; five sisters, Edna Thomas and Vera Musgrove both of Salina, Kansas, Doris Richardson of Liberal, Kansas, Fern Parker of Crestview, Florida and Betty Nelson of Holten, Kansas; six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter Shirley Casper, two brothers, Duane Letsch and George Letsch, and two sisters, Rosie Gariepy and Frances Krobalth.

Celebration of the Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, May 7, 2015 at St. Mary’s, Queen of Angels Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Russell where the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240 Honor Guard will conduct Military Rites. Andrew Leon Chambers

Andrew Leon Chambers, age 42, passed away at the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita, Kansas on Sunday, May 3, 2015. He was born on October 22, 1972 in Wakeeney, Kansas, the son of James A. And Shirley J. Ziegler Chambers.

In 1993, Andrew graduated from Parsons Senior High School in Parsons, Kansas and moved to Wichita, Kansas where he was a vocational trainer for KETCH Community Living where he worked in electronics, binders and filters.

Andrew was a member of the Catholic faith and was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a very active participant in Special Olympics. He participated in a Self-Advocacy Group and served as the group’s Vice President until March of 2004 and was very active in PUSH day in Topeka, Kansas from 2003 to 2007.

Survivors include his Parents – James & Shirley Chambers of Scott City, Kansas, One Sister – Shelly & Clinton Wiley of Scott City, Kansas, Two Brothers – Gregory & Angi Chambers of Kimball, Nebraska, James X. Chambers of Scott City, Kansas and Numerous nieces & nephews.

A celebration of Life service will be held for Andrew from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. On May 15, 2015 at 230 S. Ida in Wichita, Kansas.

Donald Lee Farmer, age 90, passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at Greeley County Long Term Care in Tribune, Kansas.

Don was born July 14, 1924 in Horace, Kansas, the son of Charles Richardson & Nellie Rebecca (Davis) Farmer, Sr.. A lifetime resident of Greeley County, Kansas, and Don was an accountant and bookkeeper for several businesses in Greeley County. Don served his country during World War Two as a Liaison Pilot in the United States Army Air Corp earning the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Don was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Tribune, Kansas

On February 12, 1947 he married Velma Baker in Tribune, Kansas. Velma passed away on April 22, 2004 at Tribune, Kansas.
