Mickey Ruth (Foster) Armbrister, age 68, of Ellis, passed away Tuesday, April 21. 2015 at her home.

Memorial services will be 11 AM, Saturday, April 25, 2015, at St. John Lutheran Church located 7 1/2 miles north of Ellis. Family will be present at the church Saturday 10 AM until service time.

Angelina McMillan

Angelina McMillan, age 62, died April 21, 2015, at the St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. She was born May 12, 1953 in Leoti, Kansas, the daughter of CP and Mary Flores Medina.

On July 24, 1982 she was united in marriage to Fredrick McMillan at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Garden City, Kansas.

A resident of the Garden City community sine 1973, moving from Leoti, Kansas. She worked as a homemaker.

Nadine Van Allen

Phillipsburg resident Nadine Van Allen passed away Monday, April 20, 2015 at the Phillips County Retirement Center in Phillipsburg, KS at the age of 87.

She was born in Smith County, KS on March 13, 1928, the daughter of Melvin & Cleo Moore. Nadine was a homemaker and farm wife.

Her husbands, Warren Campbell and Eldon Van Allen, and two sons, Jerry Campbell and Randy Van Allen, preceded her in death.

She is survived by her daughter, Rodeana Van Allen of Seaside, OR; her son, Nick Campbell of Cherokee, OK; four grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Janice Grammon of Winfield, KS; and a brother-in-law, Billie D. Lyon of Smith Center, KS.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 23, at 10:30 a.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Gary Davison officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg.

Mrs. Van Allen will lie in-state on Wednesday from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Loree (McDowell) Province

Former Kirwin resident Loree (McDowell) Province of Holdrege, NE, passed away Monday, April 20, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, NE at the age of 89.

She was born in Phillips County, KS on Feb. 13, 1926, the daughter of Karl & Jane (Gordon) King.

Loree is survived by three sons: James McDowell of Lucas, KS, Eddie McDowell of Colorado Springs, CO, and Rex McDowell of Okmulgee, OK; her daughter, Sondra Kester of Phillipsburg, KS; 8 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren; and her brother, Gordon King, of Council Grove, KS.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 24, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Rex McDowell officiating. Burial will follow in the Kirwin Cemetery, Kirwin, KS.

Friends may sign the book on Wednesday from 5-9 p.m. and Thursday from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. at the funeral home. The casket will remain closed.

Donald E. ‘Don’ Paschal

Donald Edgar Paschal, 88, passed away Sunday April 19, 2015, in the Russell Regional Hospital.

Don was born June 23, 1926 in rural Luray Kansas, the son of Clarence and Barbara (Robinson) Paschal. Upon graduation from Luray High school he went to work for the American Telephone Company as junior lineman. He served in the U.S. army from 1950 through 1952. Following his service he worked for over 30 years as an electrician for the city of Russell.

Don was united in marriage to Glenna Lee Mitchell on October 11, 1953, in Russell, and from this union they were blessed with 2 sons, Jeff and Nick. Don was a member of the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240 and the Russell American Legion Post #99. He enjoyed crossword puzzles and KU Basketball. He will be known as a friendly and witty person who loved a good joke. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Don is survived by his wife Glenna of the home, sons Jeff Paschal and wife Debbie of Pearland, Texas and Nick Paschal of rural Luray, Kansas and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Victor Paschal of Beaverton, Oregon and his 2 sisters Veola Fallis of Luray, Kansas and Gena McKanna of Luray, Kansas

A gathering service to celebrate Don’s life and greet the family will be held from 6:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. on Thursday, April 23, 2015, at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler mortuary in Russell. At 7:00 P.M. Thursday evening, military rites will be performed by the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240. Cremation has been selected by the family and his cremains will be buried at a later date. Visitation will be held from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. all day on Thursday, April 23, 2015, at the mortuary. Memorials may be given to the Russell VFW Post #6240 or the Russell Regional Hospital and sent in care of the mortuary. Steve Bruning

Phillipsburg resident Steve Bruning passed away Friday, April 17 at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg at the age of 72.

He was born Dec. 14, 1942, the son of Ernest & Hazel (Arment) Bruning. He was retired from Coffeyville Resources.

Survivors include his wife Jean of the home; 2 daughters, Dawnita Reese of Phillipsburg and Stephanie Penttila of The Woodlands, TX; 3 brothers: Floyd & Theron of Phillipsburg & Jim of Odem, TX; 1 sister, Darlene Elder of Phillipsburg; 5 grandchildren & 5 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 22 at 10:30 a.m. in the Assembly of God Church, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Dave Pugh officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9:00 to 9:00 Monday & Tuesday with the family receiving friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening.

Barbara Nell (Berry) Torres

Barbara Nell (Berry) Torres died April 17, 2015 at the Rhode Island Suites, Ransom, Kansas. She was born on July 28, 1941 in Aurora, Colorado the daughter of Johnnie and Minnie Wagner Berry.

She grew up and graduated from high school in WaKeeney, Kansas where she was known by the nickname, “Bab-O”. She married Jim Yaeger, they were divorced and she eventually moved to Lubbock, Texas where she worked retail. She married Andy Torres on December 28, 1984 in Hurst, Texas. She later returned to Ransom, where she worked in the kitchen at the Grisell Memorial Hospital Long Term Care unit.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Andy Torres, her father, Johnnie Berry, her mother, Minnie Willour, and her older sister Pat Breeden. She is survived by her brothers, Mike Berry and his wife Kathy of Canton, Kansas, and Stan Berry and his wife Cindy of Ransom, numerous nieces and nephews.

In accordance with her wishes, no funeral services will be held. Cremation has taken place. Contributions may be given to Rhode Island Suites in memory of Barbara.

Kathryn L. Hoffman

Kathryn L. Hoffman, 92, Hays, died Friday, April 17, 2015 at the Hays Good Samaritan Society.

She was born May 1, 1922 the daughter of Carl and Pauline (Schmidt) Staab. On June 12, 1945 she married Conrad P. “Connie” Hoffman in Victoria. He died June 8, 2000. She was a farmwife and homemaker and a member of the Daughters of Isabella and St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church. She enjoyed dancing, gardening, sewing, baking cookies, and reading to her grandchildren. Her Sunday dinners of fried chicken and butterscotch meringue pie were loved by her husband and family. She loved her morning coffee and making snacks and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include three sons, Bill Hoffman and wife Jody, Robert Hoffman and wife Renee, and Curt Hoffman and wife Kaye, all of Hays, three daughters, Connie Grant and husband Robert of Hays, Bette Slepicka and husband Robert of Loveland, CO, and Luanne Theleman and husband Gene of Natoma, Kansas, seventeen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers Aloysius “Al” Staab, and Alphonse “Kelly” Staab, and nine sisters, Sister Paulita Staab, CSA, Sister Carlita Staab, CSA, Lydia Brungardt and husband Ed, Bertha Mader and husband August, Lexie Keberlein and husband Isadore, Irene Staab, Edna McColl and husband Robert, Viola Emery and husband Louis, and Pauline Ehler and husband Glenn.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at the St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 pm on Monday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Tuesday, all at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine. A Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 6:00 followed by a parish vigil service at 6:30, both on Monday at the funeral home. Karla Sue Evel

Karla Sue Evel, age 53, of LaCrosse formerly of Hays, passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at her home. She was born May 28, 1961 in Ft. Collins, CO. She married Keith Evel May 5, 2007 in Hays.

Karla was employed at Kansas Pathology Consultants in Hays. She enjoyed cooking, baking sewing spending time with family and especially with her nieces and nephew.

She is survived by her husband, Keith of LaCrosse; parents Corky and Glenda (Binder) Knapp of Hays; two brothers, Doug Knapp and wife Angela of Wichita and Steve Knapp and wife Dawn of Hays; a brother-in-law, Pat Evel of Springfield, MO; two nephews, Cortin and Levi, and three nieces, Trystan, Zoey and Madison.

She was preceded in death by an uncle, Melvin Rupp and her father and mother-in-law, Dale and Carolyn Evel.

Robert ‘Bob’ Draper

Robert “Bob” Draper, 58, Phoenix AZ, formerly of Hays, died Thursday, November 20, 2014 in Phoenix, Arizona. He was born October 26, 1956, in Eldorado, KS and was a 1974 graduate of Hays High School.

He was a longtime worker in the oilfield in Kansas and California.

He is survived by three sons, Shawn Draper and wife Jennifer of Shawnee, Kansas, Brent Draper and wife Elaine of Leawood, Kansas and Shane Draper of Overland Park, Kansas; 2 daughters, Miki Koerner of Overland Park, Kansas and Megan Draper of Lawrence, Kansas; 5 Grandchildren, Tyler, Carly, Jackson, Emma and Theodore; a brother, Randy Draper of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and a sister, Sherry Anderson and husband Randy of Centennial, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and June Draper; and brother, Michael Draper.

Services will be held at a later date, to be announced, at Brock’s Keithley Funeral Chapel 2509 Vine Hays, KS 67601. Private family inurnment will be at Mount Allen Cemetery, Hays.

Vera Lucille Lare

Phillipsburg resident Vera Lucille Lare passed away Monday, April 13, 2015 at the Phillips County Retirement Center in Phillipsburg, KS at the age of 94.

She was born March 12, 1921 in Phillips County, the daughter of Chase & Melva (Bartlett) Lemon. Vera served as the Postmaster in Kirwin, KS for many years.

She is survived by her daughters, Shirley Fox of Westcliff, CO and Jennifer DeBey of Kirwin, KS; her son, Bryan Lare, of Edgerton, KS; 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 17, at 10:00 a.m. in the First Lutheran Church, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Joel Hiesterman officiating. Burial will follow in the Kirwin Cemetery, Kirwin, KS.

Irene Linenberger

Victoria, Kansas- Irene Linenberger, age 91, died Monday, April 13, 2015, at Via Christi Village Care Center Hays, Kansas.

She was born January 27, 1924 in Hays, Kansas, to Andrew and Elizabeth (Mermis) Younger. She married Paul J. Linenberger on December 6, 1942 in Victoria, Kansas. He died December 1, 1975.

She was a homemaker, a member of the Basilica of St. Fidelis and the Daughters of Isabella, both of Victoria, Kansas. Over the years she enjoyed working on word puzzles, gardening and growing her flower gardens.

Survivors include one son, Keith Linenberger, Victoria, KS; one daughter, Paula Rohr, Russell, KS; two brothers, Nathan Younger, Commerce City, CO; Francis Younger and wife, Carla, Syracuse, KS; two sisters, Geri Ruder, Marilyn Prewo and husband, Tom, all of Hays, KS; one sister-in-law, Rosie Younger, Great Bend, KS; five grandchildren, Ramona Brown (Jerry), Kelly Driscoll (Jim), Kent Rohr (Marcy) all of Russell, KS; Hubert Linenberger, Hays, KS; Janae Linenberger and companion Matt Bauer, Olathe, KS; six great grandchildren, Connor and Bailey Driscoll; Jake and Rhett Brown; Brittany and Kaden Rohr.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Ralph Younger and Cletus Younger; and one sister, Berniece McMillan.

Services are 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at Cline’s Mortuary, 412 Main Street, Victoria, Kansas 67601. Burial in St. Fidelis Cemetery Victoria, Kansas;
