Joe D. Glazier, age 54, passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at Via Christi- St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas.

Joe was born December 28, 1960 at Syracuse, Kansas, the son of William A. (Al) & Vivian Dusenbery Glazier, he was a 1978 graduate of Martinsville High School in Martinsville, Texas. Joe was a truck driver and had been a Greeley County resident since 1980 moving from Martinsville, Texas.

On August 29, 1981 he married Shawna Paxman at Tribune, Kansas.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in Tribune, Kansas with Shanon Schneider officiating.

Burial will be in Greeley County Cemetery in Tribune, Kansas.

Friends may call from 1:00 pm until 8:00 pm Monday and 10:00 am until 8:00 pm Tuesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Tribune, Kansas.

Georgia ‘Georgie’ Rose Zimmerman

Georgia “Georgie” Rose Zimmerman went to her eternal rest on March 12, 2015, at Gove County Medical Center. She was born May 19, 1937, in a sod house on a farm north of Quinter, KS to the late George T. and Rosa (Depperschmidt) Zimmerman. She graduated with honors from Quinter High School in 1955.

After graduating high school, Georgia started her working career at Keller Motors, Inc. in Grainfield, KS. Her mechanical and managerial skills served her well in her position as a mechanic and a parts manager. Keller Motors was a true family business owned by her sister, Josephine, and brother-in-law, Jake. Eventually other members of the family joined the business, Georgia’s brother, David, and nephews, Bob and Kenny.

In the late 1960’s., Georgia decided it was time to do something different with her life. She went to work for Father Augustine Moeder as his housekeeper and cook. Georgia accompanied Father Moeder to each parish to which he was assigned until he became too ill and it became necessary for him to retire in 1993. Georgia continued as his caretaker until her death.

Survivors include her sister Irene Dougherty, Great Bend, KS, brothers Eugene Zimmerman, and special friend, Carolyn of Denver, CO, Thomas Zimmerman, San Diego, CA, sisters-in-law Ilene Zimmerman, Oakley, KS and Joyce Zimmerman, Hoisington, KS, and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were infant siblings, Seraphine and Augustine (twins), and Georgina, sisters Josephine Keller and Anglina Miller, brothers David and Elmer Zimmerman, sister-in-law Shirley Zimmerman (Thomas), brothers-in-law Jake Keller (Josephine), Herman Miller (Angelina), Jack Flake and Richard Dougherty (Irene).

Visitation from 5:00 -7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18th, 2015, at Schmitt Funeral Home, Quinter, KS with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 19, 2015, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Park, KS. Burial will follow in the church’s cemetery.

Clela Fae Vaupel

Clela Fae Vaupel, 78, of Russell, Kansas, died on Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at the Russell Regional Hospital.

Fae was born on November 14, 1936 in Sylvan Grove, Kansas, the daughter of Harold and Inez (Yarnell) Bates. She grew up in Bennington, Kansas and graduated from Bennington High School in 1954. She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Richard Raymond “Dick” Vaupel on May 27, 1956 in Bennington. From this union, Fae and Dick were blessed with three children Steve, Rick and Arlene. When first married they lived in Beverly, KS., then moved to Clyde, KS for a number of years before moving to Russell in 1970. Fae worked as a telephone operator for many years but her full time job was taking care of her family as a wife and mother. She enjoyed doing crafts and fishing with Dick.

Surviving family are her two sons, Richard Vaupel and wife Phyllis of Lucas, Kansas and Steve Vaupel and wife Deb Snook of Russell, sister, Joyce Wilcox (David) of Tonganoxie, Kansas; two grandsons, Michael Vaupel (Cammie) and Matthew Vaupel (Erin); and a great granddaughter, Chloe Vaupel.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 52 years Richard, daughter Arlene Vaupel and sister Fern Speath.

A Memorial service to celebrate Fae’s life will be held at 2:30 PM Monday, March 16, 2015 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell. Visitation will be Monday from 9:00 AM to Service time at the mortuary. A private family service and burial of ashes will follow at a later date. Memorials have been established with the American Diabetes Association or Golden Living Center in Wilson. David Otis Clough

Hays, Kansas – David Otis Clough, age 74, died Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at his home in Hays, Kansas.

He was born January 1, 1941, in Dodge City, Kansas to Otis and Elizabeth (Barker) Clough. He married Carol Lynn (Reynolds) on July 11, 1962, in Greensburg, Kansas. She died March 21, 2009.

He was a science school teacher and computer technician. He was at Odin High School from 1968 to 1971, at Kennedy Middle School from 1972 to 2000, and at TMP-Marian High School from 2000 to 2011. He grew up in Dodge City and was a 1959 graduate from Dodge City High School. He was a graduate of St. Mary’s of The Plains College and received his Master’s from Fort Hays Sate University. He moved to Hays in 1971 and was a member of the Ellis County Civil Defense for a number of years. He enjoyed hunting, the outdoors, bird watching/feeding and was a very learned man.

Survivors include one daughter, Christina Lueth, Shawnee, KS; one son, David A. Clough, Aurora, CO; five grandchildren and one sister, Nancy Smithson, of OK.

There are no services planned and a private family inurnment will be at a later date. Memorial to TMP-Marian for technology support.

Irene Hattie (Miller) Stramel

Irene Hattie (Miller) Stramel, 78, of Hays, Kansas passed away Sunday, March 1, 2015 at the Via Christi Village in Hays, Kansas.

Irene was born July 3, 1936 in Osceola, Missouri, the daughter of Richard and Hattie (Ramage) Miller. She grew up and attended schools in the Natoma and Paradise area. She graduated from Natoma High School.

Irene was united in marriage to Henry Charles Stramel on December 27, 1958 in Alva, Oklahoma. They made their home in Hays. This union was blessed with five children; Kathy, Sharon, Laurie, Carol and Delores.

Irene worked for Ft. Hays State University as a Custodian for over 30 years, but was mainly a devoted wife and homemaker for her children. She enjoyed baking, playing cards, reading and especially babysitting her grandchildren.

Surviving family include her husband of 56 years, Henry of the home; five daughters, Kathy Cooley (Tracy) of Overland Park, Kansas, Sharon Obenland of Roeland Park, Kansas, Laurie Mortinger (Jim) of Hays, Kansas, Carol Williams (Jeff) of Wichita, Kansas and Delores Stramel of Hays, Kansas; three brothers, Richard Miller of Kimble, Nebraska, Gerald Miller of Russell, Kansas and Cletys Miller of Marysville, California; eight grandchildren, Travis Hachmeister (Beka), Brooke Burkett (Jason), Katelyn Cooley, Jessica Lawson (Brett), Russell Mortinger (Keegan), Jenny Obenland , Schuyler Williams, and Taylor Williams (Chelsea); five great grandchildren; and five grand dogs, Pearl, Derby, Tucker, Lilly and Rosie. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Celebration of Irene’s Life will be held at 11:30 A.M. Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. to service time on Saturday at the mortuary. A private family committal will be held later. Cremation has preceded the services. In lieu of flowers a Memorial has been established with the Friends of Hays Dog Park. Norma Jean (Wagner) Stangle

Norma Jean (Wagner) Stangle, 87, of Lawrence, Kansas and formerly of Russell, Gorham and Ellsworth, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2015 at Brandon Woods in Lawrence.

Norma was born August 14, 1927 in Eureka, Kansas, the daughter of E.M. “Bake” and Hulda (Dauber) Wagner. She grew up in Ellsworth, Kansas, graduating from Ellsworth High School as Salutatorian of her class in 1945. She earned a 3 year degree in 1948 from Susan B. Allen School of Nursing in El Dorado, Kansas. She then began her life’s work as a Registered Nurse, including working at Russell Regional Hospital. She went back to college while raising a family, and completed her BSN in 1971. She was a devoted wife and mother, excellent cook, Girl Scout Leader, exceptional event organizer and always seeing to the needs of others.

Norma was united in marriage to Cecil L. Stangle on June 11, 1951 in Ellsworth. This union was blessed with two children; Garrick and Allyn. Cecil preceded her in death on January 3, 2000.

Surviving family include her son, Garrick Stangle (Louellyn) of Olathe, Kansas; daughter, Allyn (aka. Margaret) Elliott (Bruce) of Lawrence, Kansas; grandson, Andrei Elliott of Lawrence, Kansas; sister, Mary Specht of Ft. Collins, Colorado; brothers, Ron Wagner of Independence, Kansas and Ed Wagner (Joyce) of Ft. Collins, Colorado; brother-in-law, Everett Stangle (Gloria) of St. George, Utah; sister-in-laws, Luella Bales of Snyder, Texas and Joanne Stangle of Newton, Kansas; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband, two brothers, Jerome Wagner and Melvin Wagner and several brothers and sisters-in-law.

Celebration of Norma’s Life will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, March 16, 2015 at Trinity United Methodist Church of Russell. Burial of ashes will be held at a later date in Ebenezer Cemetery in Burns, Kansas. Visitation will be Sunday, March 15, 2015 from noon to 6 PM at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell with the family present to greet friends from 4 PM to 6 PM. Mildred M. (Finch) Ford

Mildred M. (Finch) Ford, 91 of Boulder City, Nevada, passed away Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Hospice of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado, surrounded by her family.

Mildred was born April 14, 1923 in Natoma, Kansas, the daughter of Port Huron and Cora B. (Doty) Finch. She grew up in the Isabel, Cunningham and Kingman, Kansas areas. Later she attended Cosmetology School.

Mildred was united in marriage to Albert Ford, Jr. on July 30, 1941 in Kingman, Kansas. They made their home in Ft. Morgan, Colorado, Pratt, Kansas and Russell, Kansas. They were blessed with two sons; Loren and Terry. Albert preceded her in death on February 6, 1983, after 42 years of marriage.

In 1985 Mildred met Lyle Unrein and they were companions for 30 years. Their interest in traveling took them to Nevada. They loved the warm climate and sites near the Hoover Dam where they lived for the past 14 years.

Mildred was a devoted homemaker, wife and hair stylist. She enjoyed researching and recording the Ford family tree, drawing and painting, solving crossword puzzles, and playing cards and board games with family.

Surviving family include her sons, Loren Ford and wife Carol of Greeley, Colorado and Terry Ford and wife Mary of Thornton, Colorado; six grandchildren and one great grandchild; Companion, Lyle Unrein of Buhler, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers and one sister.

Jennifer Frances Ayers

Jennifer was born on July 09, 1974, in Pequannock, New Jersey, the daughter of Dennis and Rosemary (Jenkins) Gallagher. She grew up in Hays, Kansas and graduated from Hays High School in 1992. After high school she attended Ft. Hays State University and graduated with a bachelor degree in business administration. She worked as a certified nurse’s assistant for many years. She was married to Jeremy Martinson for several years and from this union they had a daughter Ashlee but were divoreced later. She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Thomas Ayers. Immediately Jennifer’s family grew, with Jennifer and Tom raising 4 energetic girls Ashlee, Amanda, Latisha and Veronica. Jennifer enjoyed fishing, yard work, gardening and lake trips. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and close friends.

Surviving family are her daughter’s Ashlee Martinson, Amanda Ayer, Latisha Ayers and Veronica Ayers all of Rhinelander, Wisconsin; parents Dennis R. and Rosemary Gallagher of Russell, Kansas; brother Dennis R. Gallagher, Jr. and wife Mimi and sister Karen R. Mitchell and husband Monty all of Russell, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas and maternal and paternal grandparents.

The family has chosen to have a private gathering at a later date and cremation has been selected by the family. Cards may be sent in care of the mortuary. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas is in charge of the arrangements.

Robert ‘Smitty’ Smith

Robert “Smitty” Smith, age 72, passed away at his home near Ransom, Kansas on March 11, 2015 after a long battle with cancer. He was born on May 28, 1942 in Ransom the son of Wilbur and Lova Pearl (Boone) Smith.

He was a Vietnam Veteran serving as a Sargent in the United States Army. He is a member of both the Arnold and Ransom United Methodist Churches.

He is survived by his dedicated wife of 25 years, Karri; loving son, Cody and his wife Cortney; two granddaughters, McKenna and Mila all of Ransom; step-daughter, Erin Tillitson; step grandchildren, Riley Jayme and Mackenzy all of Hays.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, March 16, 2015 at 10:30 AM at the Ransom United Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Ransom Cemetery for immediate family members only.

Twilla Darlene (Lyon) Combust Kraus

Twilla Darlene (Lyon) Combust Kraus, 90 years of age, passed away March 11, 2014 at Rhode Island Suites, Ransom, Kansas, after a year-long battle with cancer. She was born April 24, 1924, to Frank and Mabel (Wood) Lyon at the family home in rural Trego County, Kansas.

Twilla graduated from Ransom High School in 1943. On June 26, 1943, she married Merwin J. Combest. Two children were born to this union, Signe and Dirk. Merwin passed away April 21, 1947. Twilla then married Cyril F. Kraus on November 15, 1948. Their union brought three children into this world, Shirley, Marie and Bradley. Cyril passed away December 27, 1999. Twilla was a seamstress, quilter and loved to crochet.

Survivors include her children, Signe (Gerald) Barnes of McCracken, Shirley Stegman of Overbrook, Marie (Joe) Ney of Hanston, Bradley Kraus of Dodge City, and daughter-in-law Margie Combest of Dodge City; 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and sister-in-law Kathryn Kraus of Grainfield. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mabel Lyon; siblings, Merrit, Joe, Pansy, Freida Stowe, and Lorena Reeves; son Dirk Combest, daughter-in-law Kathie Combest, son-in-law Leon Stegman, two great-grandchildren, Aaron Hargett and Austen Ney.

Alene was born August 30, 1918 near Ingalls, Kansas, the daughter of Alvin H. & Bertha Mae Crick Hewes. A resident of Wichita County since the 1930’s, she was a homemaker and farm wife.

Alene was a member of the United Methodist Church and Rebekah Lodge both in Leoti, Kansas.

On August 28, 1938 she married Jess L. Fisher at Lakin, Kansas. Jess passed away on December 14, 1982 in Leoti, Kansas
