Travis Dean Jensen

Kirwin resident Travis Dean Jensen, 43, passed away Sunday, Feb. 8, 2015 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, KS.

He was born September 6, 1971 in Phillipsburg, KS to Larry C. & Carolynn K. (Wurtz) Jensen.

Survivors include his wife, Candie, of Kirwin, KS; son, Chris Novak; daughters, Amber Jensen of Wichita, KS, and Haylee, Cadynce, and Glennae Jensen, all of Kirwin; mother, Carolynn Trammell of Glade, KS; brother, Johnathan Jensen of Kirwin and half-brother, Jimmie Lamb of Glade; and a sister, Kristin Jensen of Hutchinson, KS.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 16, at 2:00 p.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Jonathan Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in the Marvin Cemetery, Glade.

Mr. Jensen will lie in-state on Saturday & Sunday from noon – 9 p.m. at the funeral home in Phillipsburg with the family receiving friends Sunday evening from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.

Alice Gwen McKinney Robertson

Alice Gwen McKinney Robertson, 76, of Tribune, Kansas passed away on February 9th, 2015 at the Greeley County Hospital after a short but fierce battle with melanoma.

Alice was born in Ashland, Kansas on August 9th, 1938 to parents Vivian Marie (Lowry) & Charles Donald McKinney. She grew up on a ranch in Meade County and attended high school at Englewood, Kansas. graduating in 1956. She was the only person in her class. Alice attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in education along with a minor in business graduating in 1959.

Alice married Warren Henry “Hank” Robertson of Buffalo, Oklahoma on April 5th, 1958. Their wedding was held at the United Methodist Church in Englewood, Kansas.

Alice worked as a secretary in the placement office at SWOSU while Hank was finishing pharmacy school. After college Hank and Alice moved to Liberal, Kansas for one year and then moved to Dodge City, Kansas where Alice taught second grade and Hank worked as a pharmacist. In 1965, Hank & Alice moved to Tribune, Kansas where they purchased Richardson Rexall Drug, later becoming Robertson Drug. Alice taught English at Greeley County High School along with working at Robertson Drug. She served as the business manager, bookkeeper, and secretary, until retiring and selling the drug store in 1989. Along with their drugstore, Hank & Alice also started their farming operation in 1965, which continues today.

After selling their drugstore in 1989, Alice along with her friend Helen Govert, started a new adventure known as Exquizit Creations making porcelain dolls. They traveled to many locations teaching others to make their own dolls. Alice was a person of many talents. She enjoyed china painting, tennis, carpentry, farming, traveling, cooking, fishing, and numerous community activities including the hospital board and church. She loved spending time with her friends, family, and especially her grandchildren.

Alice is survived by her husband, Hank, of 56 years. Her children include: Barbara & Darrel Johnson of Richardson, Texas. Mark & Judy Robertson, Tribune, Kansas. Scot & Lisa Robertson, Tribune, Kansas and Jena & Jonathan Brunswig, Scott City, KS. Grandchildren: Clint & Amanda Johnson, Cole Robertson, Shanon & Cale Miller, Carly Robertson, Clay Robertson, Megan Robertson, Katelyn Robertson, Reid Brunswig, Allison Brunswig, & Canon Brunswig. She is also survived by one sister, Norma Salisbury of Montezuma, Kansas. Alice is preceded in death by her parents and her granddaughter Jenny Marie Johnson.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 (MST) Friday, February 13th, at the United Methodist Church in Tribune, Kansas with Pastor Wayne Stephens and Reverend Jerl Joslin officiating with graveside services following at the Greeley County Cemetery. Alice will be greatly missed by her friends and family.

James Rayford Millwee

James Rayford Millwee was born on October 26, 1930 on a farm outside Crockett, Texas to James Sidney and Lou Ella Morgan Millwee.  He passed away on February 9, 2015 at the Gove County LTCF in Quinter, Kansas at the age of 84.  He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings, John Hugh Millwee, William Clois Millwee, Evelyn Joyce Millwee Christian, and Thomas Edgar Millwee.

Jim graduated from Austonio High School in 1947 at the age of 16.  Shortly thereafter he moved to Houston, Texas and worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad for three years.  Jim was drafted into the U.S. army in 1951 shortly after the start of the Korean conflict.  He was united in marriage to Martha Elizabeth Flora in 1957 in Colorado Springs.  They were the parents of two daughters, Lisa Gayle and Sandra Kay.  Jim served in the Army for 20 years, serving posts in Europe, Hawaii, Vietnam, and various sites in the U.S. including the Pentagon.  He was selected as one of the first Army Enlisted Men to attend college under the Enlisted College Program, majoring in computer science.  He retired from the military in 1971 as a Chief Warrant Officer 3 in the Adjutant General Corps.  He returned to college and obtained  Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Business and Computer Science from Ft. Hays State College.

Jim helped start a Pension Consulting Firm in Great Bend Kansas.  He retired in 1989.  He and Martha enjoyed extensive traveling prior to her death in 2002.  Jim was an active member of the First Christian Church in Great Bend, serving many years on the Church Board, teaching an Adult Sunday School Class, and occasionally filling the pulpit!

Jim spent several years researching, writing and publishing a family history book.   He was very proud of his family and grandchildren.   Jim was proud to serve his country and liked to be actively involved in politics.   In 2004 he married Janis Brooks in Quinter where they made their home.  They enjoyed playing games with family and friends and traveling until Jim became ill in 2007.    Jim will be especially remembered for his wonderful sense of humor.

Jim will be lovingly remembered by his wife Janis, his daughters Lisa and husband Richard Nenow; Sandra and husband Robert Schmitt; three granddaughters, Erica and husband Cagney McCormick, Andrea Nenow, Jessica Nenow;  two grandsons,  Braden Schmitt and Dylan Schmitt;  and  Janis’ family, Jeanette and Carlton Williams, Susan Kent, Shane and Amy Brooks, and grandchildren Daniel and Stacy Kent, Nicholas Kent, Carlin Williams, Tanya Brooks, and Tamika Brooks; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m.,  Friday, February 13, 2015, at Schmitt Funeral Home in Quinter.  Burial will be in the Baker Township Cemetery in Quinter with military honors by Fr. Riley Honor Guard.

Visitation will be Friday, from 1:00 p.m. to service time at the funeral home.

James R. Milwee, age 84, of Quinter, passed away Monday, February 9, 2015 at Gove County Medical Center, Long Term Care, Quinter.

Dennis C. Marsh

Woodston resident Dennis C. Marsh passed away Saturday, Feb. 7 at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville at the age of 63.

He was born April 30, 1951 in Denver, CO, the son of Howard & Dixie (Ratliff) Marsh.

Survivors include his wife Lea Ann of Woodston; his son, Matthew of Woodston; 2 daughters, Heather Smith & Libby Kester both of Stockton; 6 grandchildren & 2 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, Feb 12 at 10:30 a.m. in the Woodston United Methodist Church with Rev. Les Ellis officiating.

Marilyn June Minkler

Phillipsburg resident Marilyn June Minkler passed away Saturday, Feb. 7 at the Phillips County Retirement Center in Phillipsburg at the age of 86. 

She was born June 19, 1928 in Courtland, KS, the daughter of Melvin & Fern (Sojandler) Kellogg. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband Milburn of Phillipsburg; 4 sons, Terry of Tyro, KS, Wallace of Hays, KS, Gerald & James of Phillipsburg; 1 daughter, Adina Brown of Neosho, MO; 16 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren & 8 great great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held Tues, Feb. 10 at 2:00 p.m. in the Cedar Cemetery, Cedar, with Pastor LeRoy Herder officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Phillips County Retirement Center.

Visitation will be from noon to 9:00 Monday at the funeral home with the family receiving friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Norbert Joseph Bollig

Norbert Joseph Bollig, 93, Hays, died Saturday, February 7, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Society, Hays.

He was born May 17, 1921 on the family farm North of Ellis, Kansas the son of Jacob and Anna Marie (Graf) Bollig.  On June 24, 1947 he married Margie M. Fahey in Ellis, Kansas.

He was a 1941 graduate and drum major of Trego Community High School and was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II.  He was a truck driver in the oil field and for DOW Chemical for many years.  He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Third Degree Knights of Columbus Council #1325, the Bishop Cunningham Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, the Hays VFW Post #9076, and the Hays American Legion Post #173.  He loved going to auctions, square dancing, enjoyed computers and CB radios, was very patriotic and was a former adjutant and chaplain with the VFW and American Legion, and loved to spend time with his family and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, of the home, three sons, Robert “Bob” Bollig and wife JoAnn of Fairfax, VA, Mick Bollig and wife Suzanne of Hays, Keith Bollig and wife Jennifer of Chicago, IL, three daughters, Sharon Pfeifer and husband Ken of Phoenix, AZ, Glenda Pfaff and husband Randy of Russell, KS, and Rhonda Baker and husband Lyle of Hays, a daughter in law, Josie Gallegos of Ft. Collins, CO,  a brother Julius Bollig and wife Christine of Wakeeney, two sisters, Loretta Billinger of Wakeeney and Armella Mangels of Liberal, KS, fourteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a step father Mike Pfeifer, a son Dennis Bollig, two brothers, William “Bill” Bollig and Rudolph “Rudy” Bollig, a sister Mary Kroeger and a granddaughter Erica Rae Bollig.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Thursday, February 12, 2015 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 210 W. 13th.  Burial with military honors by the Hays VFW and American Legion will be at 2 pm at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery, Wakeeney, KS.  Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 pm on Wednesday and from 9:00 am until 10:15 on Thursday, all at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine.  The Bishop Cunningham Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus will stand honor guard from 5:30 until 6:30 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.  A parish vigil service will be at 6:30 pm followed by a combined Third and Fourth degree Knights of Columbus rosary at 7:00 pm, both on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Gerald (Jerry) Dean Munsch

Gerald (Jerry) Dean Munsch, 81, died February 7, 2015, at Ness County Hospital, Ness City, Kansas.

He was born January 24, 1934, on a farm southwest of Bazine, Kansas, the son of Henry and Catherine Depperschmidt Munsch. He served in the United States Army for two years and upon returning home worked as a mechanic.

For 30 years, he worked for the power company as Lineman and Line Foreman, retiring in 1995 as the District Manager for West Plains Energy. He was a member of the American Legion Post #152, Ness City, Knights of Columbus San Salvador Council 2624, Bishop Marion F Forst 4th Degree Assembly 1285 Knights of Columbus, Sacred Heart Church Choir for forty years, Sexton for Sacred Heart Cemetery. Former member of the Rotary Club of Ness City, Ness County Country Club and served two terms on the City Council of Ness City.

On October 22, 1960, he married Clara Rose Quint in Ness City, she survives. Other survivors include three sons, Kirk Munsch, and his wife Alice Munsch, California, Maryland, Kris Munsch, Hays, Kansas, Jeff Munsch, and his wife Tammy Munsch, Colorado Springs, Colorado, his daughter, Melissa Dewey, and her husband, Jeff Dewey, of North Platte, Nebraska. Three brothers, Lawrence and Harry Munsch, both of Cheyenne Wells, Colorado, and Robert Munsch, and his wife Mary Ann, of Lawrence, Kansas. Grandchildren, Blake Munsch, Payton Dewey, Sarah Munsch, Isaak Munsch, Avery Munsch, Alex Depperschmidt, Payne Dewey, Ethan Depperschmidt, Pake Dewey. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Joe, Edwin, Ralph and LeRoy Munsch, three sisters, Velma Boltz, Arlene Hanan and Wanita Reinert and his grandson, Blake Munsch.

Parish vigil and rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Church, Ness City. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, 11:00 a.m. at the church. Cremation will take place after the funeral Mass, private burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call on Monday from 9:00 am until 9:00 pm and on Tuesday from 9:00 am to 3:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home.

David J. Melroy

York, NE resident David J. Melroy passed away Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015 at the Utica Community Care Center in Utica, NE at the age of 69.

He was born April 25, 1945 in Kansas City, MO, the son of Joseph & Bessie (Blickenstaff) Melroy. His wife, Joan, preceded him in death in 2010.

He is survived by six stepsons: Lawrence Morton of Port Jarvis, NY; Thomas Morton of Bradshaw, NE; Gordon Morton of Salk Centre, MN; David Morton of Branford, CT; Robert Morton of Gardner, KS; and James Morton of Dodge City, KS; 14 step grandchildren and 2 step great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 9, at 2:00 p.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, KS with Rev. LeRoy Herder officiating. Burial will follow in the Norton Cemetery, Norton, KS.

Visitation will be Sunday, Feb. 8, from noon – 9 p.m. and again Monday from 9 a.m. to service time at the funeral chapel.

Eleanor Anne Bogart

Eleanor Anne Bogart, 86 passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at Via Christi Village Hays Ks. She was born on May 30, 1928, in Blessing Hospital at Quincy, Illinois, the daughter of Walter and Katherine (Smith) Bogart. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandmother, Lenora Pabst, and older brother, Loren Bogart.

Eleanor leaves to mourn her loss, her younger brother Quentin J. and his wife, Norma (Munsell) Bogart, from Mesa, Arizona, a sister in-law, Billie Bogart of Mesa, Arizona, three nephews, several great nieces and nephews as well as her life – long companion, Wilda M. Smith of Hays.

Eleanor’s early childhood was spent in Mendon, Illinois, and Des Moines, Iowa. She attend elementary school in Decatur, Illinois, and graduated from high school in Austin, Minnesota. She moved to Hays, Kansas in late summer of 1947, to join her mother and younger brother, Quentin, where her mother was employed at Fort Hays State College as an English and French teacher. Eleanor spent 1950-1951 in Truro, England where her mother taught French at a girl’s school as a Fulbright Scholar. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English at Fort Hays, in 1954 and a Master’s degree in Library Science at the University of Illinois in 1959 where she had an assistantship in the Library School. Eleanor’s working life was one of great variety. It began in the summer of 1947 when she acted in Summer Stock with the Piper Players in Colorado. She spent some time working at Harkness News Agency as a secretary before graduating from Fort Hays State College in 1954. She taught English for two years at Ellis High School. After graduating from the University of Illinois in 1959. She returned to Hays in 1960 to begin working as a freelance writer and researcher. She had numerous articles, essays and poems published as well as the biography of a Kansas woman entitled Peggy Hull: The Life and Times of a War Correspondent, co-authored with Wilda M. Smith which was published in 1991.

Eleanor satisfied her life-long desire to be an actress when she had a role in Paper Moon in 1973. Publications of which she was most proud were the biography and an article, I Always Knew I’d Be A Star about her movie experience which was published in The New York Times on March 4, 1973.

Eleanor was involved in a number of civic activities including a volunteer at Sternberg Museum of Natural History, Friends of Old Fort Hays, Friends of the Ellis County Museum where she worked on the History of Ellis County. She will be greatly missed.

A celebration gathering will be Saturday 2 PM – 4 PM at Brock’s Keithley Funeral Chapel 2509 Vine Hays, KS 67601. Burial will follow in Mt. Allen Cemetery.

Celine Therese Wimmer

Celine Therese Wimmer, age 87, passed away on Friday, February 6, 2015 at Wichita County Health Center in Leoti, Kansas. Celine was born October 8 1927 on the Baker family homestead near Marienthal, Kansas, the daughter of Anton & Caecelia Baier Baker. A lifetime resident of Marienthal, Kansas she was a farm wife, homemaker and Mother. She was an avid baker and seamstress, making numerous denim quilts for her family. She also loved working in her flower and vegetable gardens. Family was all important to Celine and she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She always had a “baked goodie” on hand for anyone who came to visit.

Celine was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and St. Mary Altar Society in Marienthal, Kansas.

On August 10, 1948 she married Jerome John “Jack” Wimmer at Marienthal, Kansas. They then made their home on the Wimmer family homestead, two miles south of the Baker homestead near Marienthal. Jack passed away on August 19, 2009 at Garden City, Kansas.

Surviving family members include

Vigil Services will be held at 7:00 pm Tuesday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marienthal, Kansas.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, February 11, 2014 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Father Bernard Felix officiating

Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery in Marienthal, Kansas.
