Marilyn J. Whitsitt

Phillipsburg resident Marilyn J. Whitsitt passed away Thursday, Dec. 11, 2014 at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg, KS at the age of 83.

She was born August 21, 1931, the daughter of Herman & Elizabeth Wolters.  Her first husband, Ted Allen, preceded her in death on Aug. 5, 1991.

Survivors include her husband, Virgil Whitsitt, of Phillipsburg; son, Randy Allen of Smith Center, KS; daughters, Regina Godinez of Phillipsburg and Roxanne Bartlett of Colwich, KS; stepdaughters, Lois Blakemore of Grand Island, NE and Peggy Dayton of Dayton, OR; sisters, Wauneta Schemper of Norton, KS; Hazel Jansonius of Prairie View, KS; Dolores Walcott of Albuquerque, NM; and Rose Erickson of Phillipsburg; 7 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, and 1 step great-grandchild.

Cremation was chosen.  A memorial service will be held Monday, December 15, at 1:00 p.m. in the United Methodist Church, Phillipsburg, with Rev. Gary Davison officiating.  Inurnment will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Logan, Kansas.

Friends may sign the book on Sunday, Dec. 14, from noon – 9 p.m. at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel in Phillipsburg.

Lois Marie Goyer

Lois Marie Goyer, age 81, passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at her home in Tribune, Kansas. Lois was born May 22, 1933 at Wasco, California, the daughter of Cryal and Sugie Glennon Davis. She was a waitress and an Apartment Manager and had been a Tribune resident since 2005 moving from Colorado.

Lois is survived by her son, Raymond Ramos of Tribune, Kansas.

A son, David A. Ramos, preceded her in death in 2007.

Services will be at a later date.

Kristina Ann Kuhn

Kristina Ann Kuhn, age 42, passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2014 after a 4 year battle with cancer at the Greeley County Hospital in Tribune, Kansas. She was born on June 15, 1972 in Denver, Colorado, the daughter of John Joseph Kuhn and Rita Kay Baker. A resident of Tribune, Kansas since July of 2014 moving from Denver, Colorado, she was an office secretary for a roofing company.

Survivors include her One Daughter – Megan Milke of Erie, Colorado, Mother – Rita K. Kuhn of Tribune, Kansas, Two Sisters – Jessica Arnold of Tribune, Kansas, Sarah Kuhn of Peru, South America, One Brother – Troy Kuhn of Atsugi, Kanagawa, Japan, Grandmother – Emily Kuhn of Denver, Colorado, Two Aunts – Nikkie Kuhn of Denver, Colorado and Mary Ellen Baker of Norman, Oklahoma.

She was preceded in death by her Father, Two Grandfathers and One Grandmother, One Uncle and One Brother In Law.

Memorial services will be held from 2:00 p.m. (MT) until 4:00 p.m. (MT) on January 17, 2015 at Barrel Springs Hunt Club in Horace, Kansas.

Eula Baxter, age 82, of Hays passed away December 7, 2014 at her home. She was born December 7, 1931 in Campus, KS to Albert and Belle (Miller) Wilson. She married William Mayfield Baxter on May 6, 1951. He preceded her in death November 24, 1988. Eula was a homemaker

She is survived by two sons, Bart Baxter and wife Sharron of Hanna, WY and Thad Baxter of Keller, TX; three daughters, Lori Schlageck and husband Mark of Fall Brook, CA, Mitzi Oetting and husband Bill of St. Paul, MN and Roxie Baxter of Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Eric Dexter, Damian Dechant, Blayne, Shane and Bevan Moody, Waylon, Travena and Jason Haselhorst, Jordan Billinger and Conor Baxter and great grandchildren, Zane, Ian, Emerson, Adeleigh, Tommie, Cameron, Cheyenne, Kara, and Charlize.

Russell Allen Hensley

Russell Allen Hensley, 41, of Russell, Kansas, passed away at his home in Russell after a short illness.

Russell was born March 26, 1973, in Lincoln, Nebraska, the son of Delbert and June (Gray) Hensley. He was a 1991 graduate of Kearney High School in Kearney, Nebraska.  He lived in Russell since 1996 coming from Hastings, Nebraska.

Russell was married to Michele McCullough on September 22, 2001, in Russell, Kansas.

Russell had worked as a cashier at Casey’s General Store in Russell, Kansas.  He was a member of the 2nd Baptist Church of Russell, Kansas and an Assistant Leader for the Boy Scouts Troop #118 of Russell.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, watching movies, and collecting family photographs.

Russell is survived by his wife, Michele, of the home, step-daughters, Cassandra of Omaha, Nebraska and Alisha of Sydney, Nebraska, two sisters, Toni Burchfield of Independence, Oregon and Muriel Smith (Walter) of Russell, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his father, grandparents, and step-sister Cindy Hensley.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2014 from 9am to 6pm with a  Gathering Service with Pastor Eric Malone officiating at 6pm at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, Kansas.  Graveside Services will be on Friday, December 12 at 11:30 am at the Evergreen Cemetery in Superior, Nebraska.  Memorials may be made to the Boy Scouts Troop #118 in care of Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary who is in charge of these arrangements.

Bradley Arthur Baral

Bradley Arthur Baral, 56, of Bunker Hill, Kansas passed away on Monday, December 8, 2014 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.

Bradley was born January 1, 1958 in Ellsworth, Kansas. He grew up and attended school in Bunker Hill. He graduated from Luray High School and then obtained his Associates Degree in Agriculture at Colby County Community College. After school he returned to Bunker Hill where he lived his whole life.

Bradley was a Crop Production Manager for Krug Farms, Inc. for over 33 years. Besides farming he also raised sheep. He was a member of the Bunker Hill United Methodist Church. He also belonged to the Bunker Hill Lions Club, received his 25 years pin with the Russell Masonic Lodge, Grand Master of the Bunker Hill Masonic Lodge, and was past Mayor and City Councilman for Bunker Hill.

Bradley’s surviving family include his sister, Laura Seirer of Bunker Hill, Kansas; longtime companion, Jayne Feldkemp of Lincoln, Kansas; her daughter Ashley Wolting (Cody) of Lincoln, Kansas and her son Jonathan Feldkemp (Morgan) of Gardner, Kansas; and his dogs Anzelo and Rhiannon. He was preceded in death by his parents and Jayne’s son, Benjamin Feldkemp.

Celebration of Bradley’s Life will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, December 12, 2014 at St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Roger Dennis officiating. Burial will follow at the Bunker Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, December 11, 2014 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary from 9 AM to 8 PM. A Memorial has been established with the Bunker Hill Lions Club. Seth Scott Louder, 82, of Russell, Kansas passed away on Sunday, December 07, 2014 at his home in Russell.

Seth was born on February 19, 1932 in Lincoln, Kansas, the son of Thomas Jefferson and Stella (Peckham) Louder. He grew up in Lincoln and Burr Oak, Kansas, and graduated from Burr Oak High School in 1950. After high school he attended Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas.

In 1952 he joined the United States Navy and served until 1956. Also that same year, he moved to Russell. Later he met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Bonnie Faye Clark on June 20, 1957 in Ord, Nebraska. From this union, Seth and Bonnie were blessed with 4 children Tanya, Patrick, Phyllis and Michael. He worked for many years with the City of Russell and retired from the Russell Power Plant. He also worked in the oil fields, and worked for Abco Wire, Farley Machine Shop, George Richard’s Machine Shop and Bishop Machine Shop. He was a member and Past Commander of the American Legion Post #99, Masonic Lodge #177, ISIS Shrine and Scottish Rite both of Salina He enjoyed fishing, hunting, coon hunting and auto mechanics. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving family include his wife Bonnie of the home; children Tanya LaMastus and husband Ronnie of Roxbury, Kansas, Patrick Louder of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Phyllis Voldrich of Wichita, Kansas and Michael Louder and wife Kathy of Russell; 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 12 brothers and sisters.

A celebration of Seth’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, December 11, 2014, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell with Pastor John Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at the Russell City Cemetery where Military Rites will be conducted by the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240 Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, December 10, 2014, at the mortuary with family present to greet guests from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday evening. Memorials can be given to Shriner’s Children’s Hospital and sent in care of the mortuary. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.

Elaine Diane Schneider, age 55, of Phillipsburg passed away Sunday, December 7, 2014 at Hays Medical center. She was born June 26, 1959 in Smith Center, KS to Raymond J. and Delene (Dusin) Hempler. She graduated from Logan High School. She married Phillip E. Bruton and then Ronald Schneider and both preceded her in death.

Elaine was a RN working in various facilities including Logan Manor and the Phillipsburg Retirement Center. She enjoyed horseback riding, reading and music.

She is survived by two sons, Zach Bruton and wife Angie of Bogue, KS and Austin Schneider and wife Kamesha of Phillipsburg, KS; a brother, Jan Hempler of Kansas City, KS and 4 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by Parents and a brother,Dennis Hempler.

Memorial services will be 2 PM Saturday, December 13, 2014 at the First Lutheran Church in Phillipsburg.

LaVerna M. Herl, age 84, of Hays, passed away Monday, December 8, 2014 at Hays Medical Center. She was born September 8, 1930 in rural Liebenthal, KS to Phillip and Wilhelmina (Schuckman) Dreher. She married Robert L. Herl on April 19, 1950 in Liebenthal, Kansas. He preceded her in death October 12, 2011.

She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Munjor and attended St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church in Hays. She was a lifetime Ladies Eagle’s Auxilliary member. She enjoyed shopping, bingo, cooking and baking for her family.

She is survived by three sons, Kenneth (Cathy) Herl of Stratton, MO; Darrell (Kim) Herl and Robert D. (Ellie) Herl all of Hays; two sisters, Juliana Unrein of Hays and Betty Hill of Hutchinson; seven grandchildren, Shelly (Ryan) Dreher, Amy (Marty) Bell, Kyle (Nichole) Herl, Justin (Jade) Herl, Abby (Nate) Michl, Emily (Dustin) Washburn and Anna Herl and 11 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Ernest L. Herl and two brothers, Leon and Ralph Dreher.

Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Friday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Munjor. Burial will follow services in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday 4 PM – 8 PM and Friday 9 AM until 9:30 AM all at Brock’s-Keithley Funeral Chapel 2509 Vine Hays, KS. 67601.

A parish vigil service will be 7 PM Thursday at the funeral home.

Rosemary Walters

Rosemary Walters, 94, Hays, died Monday, December 8, 2014 at the Hays Medical Center.

She was born March 23, 1920 in Catharine, Kansas the daughter of Frank A. and Bertha (Rohleder) Schmidt. She was a homemaker and loved to babysit children. On September 17, 1940 she married Alvin P. Staab in Catharine. He died August 9, 1970. She later married Florence Walters on March 9, 1975 in Hays. He died January 13, 2000.

She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, and the Altar Society Christian Mothers. She enjoyed baking, bingo, Royals baseball, embroidering tea towels, crossword puzzles and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas Staab and wife Sue of Hays, and Frank Staab of Eldon, MO, a daughter Elaine Werth and husband Kenneth of Schoenchen, KS, a stepson Gary Walters and wife Alice of Hays, four stepdaughters Doris Dinkel of Hays, Rozine Lambertson and husband Harry of Hays, Barb McCauley of Topeka, and Debbie Bohm and husband Tom of Hays, nine grandchildren, Kevin Werth and wife Patty of Hays, Mark Werth and wife Simone of Hays, Glenn Werth and wife Terri of Overland Park, Keith Staab and wife Diane of College Station, TX, Kirk Staab and wife Jan of Irving, TX, Craig Staab and wife Freda of Leoti, Charla Heaton and husband Ashley of Hays, Sami Johnson of Chicago, IL, and Wendy Poulsen of Columbia, MO, ten great grandchildren, Brittany Werth, Brandon Werth, Bill Werth, Jeremy Werth, Kaden Staab, Kyler Staab, Cody Staab, Aaron Staab, Kiersten Heaton, and Allison Heaton, and four great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a grandson Randall Werth, a great grandson Michael Werth, and a daughter in law, Donna Staab.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays.  Burial will be in the St. Catherine Cemetery, Catharine.

Visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00 pm on Wednesday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 Thursday, all at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine. A parish vigil service will be at 6:30 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to masses or to the St. Catherine Church.

Jean Marie Pochop

Jean Marie Pochop, one of twin daughters born to Albin & Rose Margarette Wolkensdorfer, on April 25, 1928 in Atwood, Kansas, departed this life on December 4, 2014 in Hutchinson, KS at the Hospice House.

Jean was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church and a member of the Christian Mothers Alter Society. She retired after 30 years of employment at the USDA office in Atwood.

On August 3, 1966 she married Ralph Pochop.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Ralph G. Pochop; parents; parents-in-law; twin sister, Joan Wolters; brother, Daniel J. Wolkensdorfer; infants, Michael D. Solko & Rebecca S. Solko; Son-in-law, William W. Sligar; brother-in-laws, Frank, Vincent & Victor Pochop, Kenneth Demmer and HG “Pete” Wolters; Sisters-in-law, Mary & husband Fred Lorens, Helen & husband James Douthit, Margaret & husband Stanley Faimon and Agnes Pochop.

Those left to celebrate her life are her son, William J. Solko and wife Rebecca; daughter, Virginia and husband Robert McDowell; step-son, Roger Norbom and wife Janet; 4 granddaughters; 2 grandsons; 2 step-grandsons; 5 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; special friend, Schelly Thompson; sisters-in-laws, Carolyn Wolkensdorfer, Angie Demmer, Lucy & Elizabeth Pochop; plus numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be 4-6:00 p.m. Monday, December 8, 2014 at Baalmann Mortuary, Atwood, with a Vigil service at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Atwood. Veta Mae Sears

Stockton resident Veta Mae Sears passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2014, at the Solomon Valley Manor in Stockton, Kansas at the age of 97.

Veta was born December 11, 1916 in Osborne County, Kansas, the daughter of William T. & Violet K. (Garret) Eller.

Her husband, Cleo, and sons, Lyndon and Leon Duntz, preceded her in death.

She is survived by her daughter, Gaylene Loyd of Kirwin; 7 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 8, 2014 in the Nazarene Church in Gaylord, KS, with Pastor Brian Loreg officiating.  Burial will follow in the Cedar Cemetery, Cedar, KS.

Mrs. Sears will lie in-state from Noon until 9:00 p.m. Sunday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg.
