Former Phillipsburg resident Connie Jo Flores passed away Friday, November 21, 2014, at the Melissa Memorial Hospital in Holyoke, CO at the age of 57.

She was born March 17, 1957 in Phillipsburg, KS, the daughter of Milton L. “Lee” Jennings & Patsy Ann (Faulkender) Jennings.  Her mother, Patsy, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her daughter, Bobbi Pejsa, of Potter, NE; two grandchildren; her father, Milton “Lee” Jennings of Phillipsburg; brothers, Randy Jennings of North Platte, NE and Mike Jennings of Phillipsburg; sisters, LeAnn Mollet of Kansas City, MO, Sandy Goscha of Bartlesville, OK, Terri Kendall of Baldwin City, KS and Stacey Jennings of Phillipsburg.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 29, at 10:30 a.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Joel Hiesterman officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg.

Visitation will be Friday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and again Saturday from 9 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Devoice Jean Koeppen, age 76, of Arnold, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, November 12, 2014, at Rhode island Suites in Ransom, Kansas. She was born March 16, 1938 in Casey, KY to Robanion and Courtney (Renfro) Casey. She married Richard Koeppen on March 15, 1975 in Arlington, KS.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses.

She is survived by her husband, Richard of Arnold, KS; four daughters, Debbie (ART) Larson of California, Dora Nance of Wichita, Donna Foster of Haven, KS, Dianna Smith of Hutchinson; three step daughters, Dinah June Sanchez of Topeka, Sandra Dee Koeppen of Texas and Corinna Denise (Les) Hickey of Colorado; a sister, Joyce rose of Washington State; grandchildren, Allie, Jared, Madison, Katie, Dylan and Ashley as well as three great grandchildren, Grayson, William and Kennedy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Royce Casey and a sister, Jan.

Memorial services will be 2 PM Saturday, November 22, 2014 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses in Hays.

John Morris

Garden City, Kansas — John T. Morris, age 65, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas. He was born on November 7, 1949 in Glendale, California the son of John J. and Barbara Rae Hardie Morris. A resident of Garden City since 1996, he was an auto parts salesman.

On July 30, 1971 he married Lu Ellen Foster in Glendale, California. She survives.

Other Survivors include: One Son, Robert T. Morris of Omro, Wisconsin; Two Daughters, Le Anna Morris of Kansas City, Missouri and Stacy Daily of Garden City, Kansas; One Brother, Robert A. Morris of Glendale, California; One Sister, Patt L. Morris of Huntington Beach, California; Eleven Grandchildren and One Great-Grandchild.

A private family graveside service will be held on Friday, Nov. 21, 2014 in the Valley View Cemetery in Garden City, Kansas.

There will be no public calling times.

Eugene R. Knudsen, 82, of Russell, Kansas, passed away on November 20, 2014 at Russell Regional Hospital in Russell.

Celebration of Eugene’s life will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at 10am at the First Congregational Church in Russell. Visitation will be held on Monday from 9am to 8pm at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell.

Joshua William Young, age 34, passed away near Brownell, Kansas on November 18, 2014.

He was born on November 22, 1979 in Ransom, Kansas, the son of Jeffrey and Peggy Whipple Young.

He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps for 8 years and he was a member of the Sons of American Legion Post 380 of Utica. He was a lifetime resident of Utica.

He is survived by his parents, Jeff and Peggy, Utica, KS; daughters, Alexa Hopkins and Jasmine Ann Young; sister, Bridget (Travis) Tillitson and their children, Berkley and Delevan, Ransom, KS; brother, Lewis (Jodi) Young and their children, Riya, Jewel, and Raylee, Utica.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, Clarence and Cecil Whipple; grandparents, Bill and Patsy Young, and Aunt Penny Chiminello.

Viewing will be Friday, November, 21, 2014, 9:00 A.M. – 9:00 P.M. with family present to greet friends 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home.

Funeral Service will be Saturday, November, 22, 2014, 10:30 A.M. First Christian Church, Utica, KS.

Burial in the Utica Cemetery.

Peggy Cole

Rural Phillipsburg resident Peggy Cole passed away Monday, Nov. 17, 2014, at Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg, KS, at the age of 69.

She was born May 21, 1945, in Smith Center, KS, the daughter of Arnold and Anelia (Black) Hayes. Peggy worked as the Secretary at the South Grade School in Phillipsburg for 33 years.

Survivors include her husband, LaVon; sons, Larry Cole and Ryan Cole, both of Phillipsburg; daughter Laci Callis of Hays, KS; son Qaung Ngo of San Diego, CA and daughter, Rebecca Cole of Hays; brother Gene Hayes of Parkville, MO; 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 21, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. in the United Presbyterian Church, Phillipsburg, with Rev. Chris Davis officiating. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Cedar Cemetery, Cedar, KS.

Peggy Cole will lie in-state Wed. and Thurs. from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with the family receiving friends Thursday evening from 7 – 8 p.m.

Richard A. Willis

Phillipsburg resident Richard A. Willis passed away Monday, Nov. 17, 2014, at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg, KS at the age of 82.

He was born March 20, 1932 in Kirwin, KS, the son of Alfred & Erma (Lala) Willis. Richard was a rural mail carrier for many years.

His son, Jason, preceded him in death on Feb. 15, 2012.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia, of the home; one sister, Leonore House of McCracken, KS; and two grandchildren, Trenton and Justin Willis of Salina, KS.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Kirwin Cemetery in Kirwin, KS with Pastor Tim Kraft officiating.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg.

Wilma Augustine

Wilma Augustine

Wilma Augustine, 82, Hays, died Thursday, November 13, 2014 at her home.

She was born September 30, 1932 in Catherine, Kansas the daughter of Frank and Bertha (Rohleder ) Schmidt.  On August 10, 1957 she married LeRoy “Dick” Augustine in Catherine.  He died October 6, 1987.  She was a registered nurse at St. Anthony’s Hospital and later Hays Medical Center for 43 years, from 1954 until her retirement in 1997, working in the OB Obstetrics Department and delivering thousands of babies.  She was a member of St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, was a graduate of St. Anthony’s School of Nursing, and loved gardening, the outdoors, animals, babies, and especially family and her church.  She was an excellent cook, noodle maker, and candy maker and enjoyed sharing her candy and peanut brittle at the holidays.  She sewed blankets and embroidered tea towels and was always quick to help with church funeral dinners and soup suppers.

Survivors include a son, Richard Augustine and wife Tawnita of Hays, two sisters, Rosemary Walters           of Hays and Frances Schmidt of Long Island, NY, two grandchildren, Bryce Augustine and wife Lacy of Gardner, KS and Kylee Augustine of Hays, a great granddaughter Addie Augustine,  a special niece, Elaine Werth, and extended family Larry Staley, Jim Staley, and Barb Elliott.  She also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, five brothers Francis Schmidt, George Schmidt, Eugene Schmidt, Gerard Schmidt, and Ervin Schmidt, and three sisters, Anne Schueler, Kay Campbell, and Dorothy Vonfeldt.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at the St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church.  Burial will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Monday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Tuesday, all at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine. A parish vigil service will be at 6:30 pm on Monday at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested in Wilma’s memory to St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, in care of the funeral home.  Condolences may be left for the family at www.haysmemorial.com.

Frances Margaret Goetz, 79, of Grinnell, passed away Thursday, November 13, 2014 at the Logan County Manor. She was born in Logan, KS on January 12, 1935 to the late Christy and Inez (Paramore) Lynch. On August 4, 1956 she married Charles Goetz in Logan, KS and they made their home in Grinnell. She was a member of the Altar Society and Daughters of Isabella. She enjoyed giving piano lessons out of her home.

Preceded in death by her husband Charles; a sister, Ruth Becker-Goscha and brother, Ralph Lynch.

Survivors include her son, Greg (Mary Jane) Goetz, of Grinnell; daughters, Annette (Bob) Ostmeyer, of Ozawkie, Heliana (Tom) Halbleib, of Oakley and Cecilia (Mike) Brungardt, of Oakley; sister, Mary (Bob) Becker, of Logan; nine grandchildren, Valerie Krier, Nicole Stejskal, Christopher Halbleib, Nathan Goetz, Katrina Kountzman, Robert C. Ostmeyer, Cole Halbleib, Darren Goetz and Eric Goetz and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 5-8pm on Sunday, November 16, 2014 at Baalmann Mortuary, Oakley with a vigil service at 7:00pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00am, Monday, November 17, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Oakley. Burial will follow in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery, Grinnell.
