Clara Maxine Nelms

Clara Maxine Nelms, 88, passed away June 17, 2019 at Diversicare, Larned.

She was born September 30, 1930 in Larned to Eli and Celie Webber Skelton.

A lifetime area resident she was a bank teller for First National Bank, Larned. She was of the Christian Faith and a member of the First Christian Church, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and was the past president of Christian Women’s Fellowship, all of Larned.

On July 29, 1955 she married Ray Nelms at Larned, he preceded her in death on December 11, 1990.

She is survived by; a sister, Virginia Sallee, Great Bend; and a brother, Dale Skelton, Grand Junction, Colorado.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sisters, Erma Skelton, Verna Moorehead, Zesper Franz; and four brothers, Russell Skelton, Bob Skelton, Glenn Skelton, and Leo Skelton.

Graveside service will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 21, 2019 at Larned Cemetery, Larned, with Pastor Damon Bradley presiding. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 20, 2019 at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned.

Clinton ‘Clint’ Jensen Jr.

Clinton “Clint” Jensen Jr. was born April 16, 1945 to Clinton, Sr. and Lenora (Williams) Jensen in Leesville, Louisiana.

Clint graduated from Miltonvale High School in 1963. After high school he attended a school in Denver, Colorado where he became a certified mechanic. This career path was not only his job but his hobby as well. Clint spent many years working as a mechanic at the station on highway 24 outside of Miltonvale.

In between his full days at the station, he still found time to do some farm work. Clint had a love for cars, but he had a particular love for the 1955 Chevy. He is preceded in death by his parents, and brother in law Bill.

Private family services will take place at a later date.

Robert L. Russell

Robert L. Russell, age 86, died on Thursday, June 13, 2019, at the St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. He was born on June 5, 1933, in Garden City, Kansas the son of Marian and Lula Edith Heinlan Russell.

On October 3, 1933, he married Shirley A. Sullivan Raton, New Mexico. She survives.

One Brother: John D. Russell of Wichita, Kansas

He was preceded in death by his parents, 10 brothers and sisters, and one son, Robin Russell.

Private family interment will be held at a later date at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City, Kansas.

A celebration of life service will be held at the Sleep Inn from 2:00 to 4:00 on Saturday, June 22, 2019.

Charles Robert Homm

Charles Robert Homm, 77 years of age, of Oakley, passed away Sunday, June 9th at Logan County Hospital in Oakley, KS. Charles was born in Colby, KS to Agnes and George Homm, Oct 23, 1941. He attended Oakley Public School and graduated in 1960.

Charlie LOVED Oakley and never left his hometown. From his first job running the Conoco Station at HWY 40/83 (before I-70 existed) to running his own business, he was Oakley. He was an excellent historian of all Oakley. Up until his passing he would enjoy his 2 hour car rides around Oakley, revisiting the past and telling what was there and when. His family was always fascinated in his profound memory of things in Oakley. Dementia had set in recently, but anything about his hometown and those he grew up with were ‘spot on’ in recalling. He loved Oakley, his home.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, George Homm and Agnes (Albers, Homm) Wharton; his brothers, George Jr. and Alfred Homm; sisters, Pauline Blair, Betty Schuster and Barbara Gallentine, and son-in-law Greg Sander.

He is survived by Joyce, his wife of almost 55 years; son Randy Homm; daughter Wendy (Sander) Schwarz and two grandchildren Kyle Sanders & Kaylee Schwarz.

Much love to everyone to took part in his life.

Richard Lee Wendelburg

Richard Lee Wendelburg, age 81, passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2019 at Greeley County Hospital in Tribune, Kansas.

Dick was born January 23, 1938 in Stafford, Kansas, the son of Edwin Carrol & Imogene (Miller) Wendelburg. A resident of Greeley County since the 1950’s, he was a farmer. He served his country from 1958 through 1962 in the United States Navy. He was an avid antique collector.

Dick was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tribune, Kansas as well as a founding member of the Greeley County Antiquer’s Association and a life member of Greeley County Historical Society.

On December 21, 1960 he married Linda Millirons in Tribune, Kansas.

Phyllis I. Bodine

Phyllis I. Bodine, 94, of Russell, Kansas, died on Saturday, June 15, 2019, at the Homestead Assisted Living Center in Russell, Kansas.

Jon David Boxler

Jon David Boxler, was born to Peter John “P.J.” and Aileen V. (Brunson) Boxler in Norton, Kansas, on November 19, 1937. He passed away at his home in Norton on June 14, 2019, at the age of 81.

Jon was a lifelong Norton resident where he grew up and attended the local schools, graduating from the Norton Community High School with the class of 1955. He also graduated with a degree in business administration from Fort Hays in 1960. In 1954, Jon enlisted in the Kansas Army National Guard, reaching the rank of Sgt. E5 prior to his honorable discharge December 1962.

Following his graduation from college, Jon returned to Norton to form a partnership with this father, P.J. Boxler, in Boxler Insurance. In 1962, they formed Assured Investment and Loan, Inc. On August 31, 1963, Jon married his sweetheart from New Almelo, Kansas, Bernice “Bonnie” Austerman in Norton. They made their home in Norton, where after his father’s death in 1963, Jon continued the family business with his mother, Aileen, until her death in 2007. Jon also farmed the family homestead in a partnership with his mother and uncle, Dale Brunson, until 1991. At the time of his death, Jon was still actively involved in running the Boxler Insurance business.

Jon was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Norton and the Knights of Columbus. He was a charter member of the Norton Jaycees when it formed in 1963, and had been the director of the Norton Jaycees for the 1969-70 club year. He also won several Jaycee awards from 1966-1969. Jon was a current member of the Norton Chamber of Commerce and the Norton Lions Club. He was an active member of the Harmonson-Redd American Legion Post #63, proudly serving as Honor Guard for numerous years up until his death.

For the past several years, Jon enjoyed collecting and tinkering with his antique tractors. He enjoyed going to parades and tractor shows with his son, Stephen, and grandson, Connor. Jon was a lover of animals and could be seen walking downtown with his beloved Callie by his side. He enjoyed traveling with his family and friends over the years and always said the after-hours business meetings were the best kind. He embraced the new technology and was an avid texter to his family and friends. Jon was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Jon is survived by his wife, Bonnie, of their home in Norton; one son, Stephen (Tiffany) Boxler, Norton; one daughter, Erika (Terry) Cousins, Newcastle, Oklahoma; one grandson, Connor (Reghan) Boxler, Hays, Kansas; numerous extended family and friends.

Jon was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, one sister, Jane, his parents-in-law, three brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law.

H.D. ‘Spec’ Woods

The family of H.D. “Spec” Woods is sad to report that he has passed away. His death occurred this last Friday, on June 14th, at 7:00 AM in Bishop Spencer Place of Kansas City, Missouri.

He and his wife, Peg, moved to Hays in the summer of 1952 to raise their family. He and Richard R. “Dick” Starr partnered as architects at that time and together, as Woods & Starr Architects. They made a lasting, physical statement of modern architecture in both Hays and western Kansas that will last for decades.

He resided in Hays continuously until April of this year when he relocated to Kansas City to be closer to his family. In his final days, he was surrounded by three generations of his descendants, and he left a lasting memory of steadfast love to everyone.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Peg, who passed away December 18, 2012, his parents and all the aunts and uncles of his own generation. He was the last.

He is survived by his son Cris and his wife Corine (also from Hays) of Kansas City, his daughter Patti of Plano, Texas, his five grandchildren Faye, Beth, Steve, Kati and Ben, and his 2 great-grandchildren, Maxx and Jimi. We miss him already.

Funeral service arrangements are pending upon notification of the family. They will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Hays.

Donna Coleen Crumrine

Donna “Coleen” Crumrine went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 16, 2019, after fighting cancer since July 2015. She was born on March 21, 1935, at the Anthony Hospital, in Anthony, KS, to Clinton H. and Mora L. (Norris) Pfalser, of Wakita, Oklahoma. She married the love of her life, Marion “Cue” Crumrine on April 14, 1953, at the Brewster United Methodist Church. They celebrated their 66th Wedding Anniversary before her passing.

Coleen was a member of the Brewster Community Church, Brewster, KS. She was a retired substitute cook of 23 years and bus driver for the Brewster School. She was a Sunday school teacher, 4-H lead, served on the Brewster PTA and was a follower of the Brewster Square Dance Club.

Donna Coleen was preceded in death by her parents and brother Eugene Pfalser. She is survived by her husband, Marion “Cue” Crumrine, of Brewster; daughters, Carlene (Joe) Moore, of Mountain View, AR and Carolyn (Brian) Somers, of Brewster; son Willard (Marla) Crumrine, of Brewster; brother Donald (Linda) Pfalser, of Mountain Home, AR; sister-in-law Lila Pfalser, of Enid, OK; brothers-in-law Virle Crumrine, of Brewster and Mason (Betty) Crumrine, of Brewster. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Pastor Jonathan (Angela) Moore, of Mountain View, AR, Matthew (Sandra) Moore, of Sierra Vista, AZ, Christi (Kyle) Panter, of Enid, OK, Chad (Lexi) Somers, of Lakewood, CO, Jesse Crumrine, of Winona, KS and Melissa (Pastor Reuben) Schneider, of Brewster; 9 great grandkids, Seth, Keaton and Sara Moore, Kaylee and Sophia Moore, Haleigh and Sean Somers, and Mia and Madelyn Schneider; plus many nephews, nieces, loved ones and friends.

A Memorial Service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 21, 2019, at the Brewster Community Church, Brewster. Jean ‘Jeanie’ Converse

Jean “Jeanie” Converse, age 83, of Lincoln, KS, left this earthly life on Friday, June 14, 2019 at the University of Kansas Health System, Kansas City, KS.  She was born on Nov. 9, 1935 Ft. Lupkin, Colorado to Dwight and Beulah (Shutts) Arnold.

She was a 1953 graduate of Hays High School, Hays, Kansas.  Jeanie graduated from Ft. Hays State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.

She taught at USD 298 Lincoln High School in Lincoln, Kansas for 22 years and then at USD 327 Ellsworth-Kanopolis Elementary School for 16 years.  In 1971 she received outstanding young teacher of the year award.  Jeanie started the girl’s athletic program in 1971 at Lincoln High School.  She was the girls track coach at Lincoln High School where they won 3 straight state track titles in 72’, 73’ and 74’.   Jeanie was named Kansas State activities coach of the year in 1976.

Jeanie loved to play golf and made 3 holes in one during her lifetime.  She was member of several golf courses including Salina Municipal GC, also a member of the Lincoln Arts Center.

She was a nanny to  Sawyer, Levi, Connor, and Landon.

Jeanie is survived by her best friend, Vicky Jewell, Lincoln, KS.; a brother, Doug Arnold, Las Vegas, NV.

She was preceded in death by her parents Dwight and Beulah.

It was Jeanie’s wishes to be cremated and private disposition of the cremains will be at a later date.

The family suggests memorials to Ellsworth-Kanopolis Art Department USD 327 or Humane Society, Lincoln, Kansas.  In care of the funeral home.

David Lee ‘Dave’ Pfannenstiel

David Lee “Dave” Pfannenstiel, 64, Hays, died Sunday, June 16, 2019 at his home.

He was born February 15, 1955 in Hays, the son of Henry J. “Hank” and Mary E. (Rohleder) Pfannenstiel. He was a graduate on Hays High School in the class of 1973 and attended Fort Hays State University.

On June 25, 1977 he was united in marriage to Janelle Gerstner in Hays, and they celebrated nearly 42 years of marriage. He worked in the oilfield with his father at Hank’s Tanks Sales and Service and later became the owner and operator of the business. Dave was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. He loved spending time with his family and always put them first.

Dave enjoyed home remodeling, landscaping, yardwork, and was a fan of KU basketball and the Kansas City Chiefs. He enjoyed attending class reunions and he loved decorating for Halloween.

He is survived by his wife; Janelle of the home, his parents, Hank and Mary Pfannenstiel of Hays, three daughters; Cassie Pfannenstiel Rodriquez and husband Chris of Lenexa, Kristy Pfannenstiel of Lenexa, and Emilee Pfannenstiel of Hays, two sisters; Trish Pfannenstiel of Topeka and Norma Henderson and husband Tom of Hays, and four grandchildren; Trevor Wood, Elizabeth Thomas, Eva Pfannenstiel Rodriquez, and Lucia Pfannenstiel Rodriquez.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, June 20, 2019 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Fr. Barry Brinkman officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Wednesday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Thursday, all at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. A Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 6:00 pm followed by a parish vigil service at 6:30 pm, all on Wednesday at the funeral Home. Emil William ‘Bill’ Dupsky III

Longtime Goodland, KS resident Emil William “Bill” Dupsky III, 76, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at the Goodland Regional Medical Center in Goodland.

Bill was born on March 22, 1943 in Wayne, Nebraska to Emil William and Margarite (Watts) Dupsky, II. He was one of two children.

At a young age, his parents moved to Goodland where he attended school and graduated from Sherman Community High School in 1961. He served in the United States Navy for a short time during the Vietnam War.

After his military service, Bill worked installing telephone lines in Kansas and Colorado. Bill worked as a heavy equipment operator for Dupsky Construction. He also worked for Minerich Construction doing construction work and installing cell phone towers. Later in life, he enjoyed driving Big Rigs hauling grain and freight. Bill’s favorite hobby was watching Nascar racing and visiting the various race tracks. On February 14, 1994, Bill married Shirley Ann Cass in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Preceding him in death were his parents and grandparents.

He is survived by his wife Shirley of the home in Goodland, two sons Travis Dupsky of Fort Morgan, CO and Cooper Dupsky of Fort Morgan, CO; 3 step-sons Ray Dewey (Jamie) Lalicker of Goodland, KS, Dewayne (Lori) Lalicker of Goodland, KS, and Monty (Casey) Lalicker of Aurora, CO; six granddaughters, eight grandsons, six great granddaughters and three great grandsons. He is also survived by brother Ellis Dupsky of Arvada, CO.

Graveside memorial services will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at 10:00 AM MT at the Goodland Cemetery with Pastor Zach Anderson officiating.

Memorial contributions may be designated to the Goodland Senior Citizen’s Center and may be left at the services or mailed to Koons-Russell Funeral Home, 211 N. Main Ave., Goodland, KS 67735.
