Mary Amanda Herman

Mary Amanda Herman, 100, of Overbrook, Kansas, and former Russell Resident, died on Monday, June 10, 2019 in Overbrook, Kansas.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas is in charge of arrangements.

Janette Ann (Dutchuk) Bachar

Janette Ann (Dutchuk) Bachar, 75, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at Russell Regional Hospital in Russell.

Janette was born July 26, 1943 in Dickenson, North Dakota. She was one of three children born to Nicholas and Katherine (Cerkoney) Dutchuk. She grew up and attended schools in Dickenson. While in school she enjoyed playing softball and basketball.

Janette was a devoted homemaker to her children and grandchildren. She also worked as a cashier at theaters. She attended Otterbein United Methodist Church. She enjoyed being outside, taking care of animals and her garden. But it was her children and grandchildren that meant the world to her.

Janette’s surviving family include three sons, Jerry Bachar (Lisa) of Olathe, Kansas, Jerad Bachar (Raymond Cotter) of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, and Jay Bachar (Kelly) of Hoisington, Kansas; daughter, Jodi Radke of Russell, Kansas; brother, Ted Dutchuk (Vicki) of Port Townsend, Washington; sister, Carrie Wandler (Jack) of Dickenson, North Dakota; and nine grandchildren.

Janette was preceded in death by her parents and grandson, Joshua Tate Bachar.

The family of Janette are holding private services at a later date. Condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, who is in charge of these arrangements.

Abraham Holzmeister

Abraham Holzmeister, 87, of Salina, passed away Monday, June 10, 2019. He was born Aug. 6, 1931, in rural Rush County to John and Susann (Herrman) Holzmeister.

Abe attended grade school at Loretta Catholic School. The family moved to Quinter and he graduated from Quinter High School.

After high school he worked at Boeing in Wichita until enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1951. He served 20 years in the Navy, serving in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars, retiring in 1971 as a chief ship serviceman.

He worked at Western Auto Distribution Center in Salina for 15 years, managing the outlet store. While working at Western Auto he attended night school at Marymount College, earning his bachelor of science degree in business. He managed the Dairy Queen on North Ninth and was service manager for Midwest Sewing for over 20 years, retiring in 2012.

Abe was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Cathedral, and served as Eucharistic Minister. He was a fourth-degree knight in Knights of Columbus, a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, the DAV, Retired Enlisted Association and a lifetime member of the VFW. He was known for always shaking hands with everyone he knew or met.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Pauline, of the home; children, Abbie and Mike Lamb, Becky Holzmeister (Ken), Doris and Mark Shaw, Ed and Charlotte Holzmeister, and Don Holzmeister; eight grandchildren, Andy, Angela, Dalton, Ashton and Lindsey Holzmeister, Andrea Hanslovan, Ian Shaw and Elizabeth Rodriguez; four great-grandchildren, Augustus and Ammon Hanslovan and Ramona and Maia Shaw; sister, Josephine Kuntz; and brother, Ed and Darlene Holzmeister.

Preceded in death by four brothers and their spouses, Sylvester and Genny, Arone and Joyce, Lawrence and Frances, Hubert and Elenora, and Arnold; sister, Frieda and George Waldman; and brother-in-law, Nick Kuntz.

Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Friday, June 14, with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. and rosary recitation at 7 p.m., all at Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home, Salina.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 15, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Salina. Burial with military honors will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Salina.

Dolly Lovin-Shackelford

Dolly Lovin-Shackelford, 68, left us on June 11, 2019 at her residence in Norton, Kansas. She was born on December 8, 1950, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Jesse and Virgie (Huffman) Piper. Dolly was one of four children, grew up in Kansas City, Missouri, and obtained her GED. She was united in marriage to Melvin Lovin on June 3, 1967 in Morton, Illinois. To this union, two daughters were born: Nancy and Christy.

Dolly was known for her contagious smiles and love for being with her family, especially spending time with her daughters. She had an affinity for music, mystery novels, Gunsmoke TV episodes, and Sonic burgers. She loved the Christmas season and going to get her hair done. Dolly was a member of the Methodist Church.

Dolly is survived by her daughters, Nancy Lovin and significant other Doug Cressler of Jennings, KS, Christy Burris and husband Rick of Colby, KS; brother, Gale Piper of Springfield, IL; sister, June Creasy of Springfield, IL; five grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Dolly is preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Virgie Piper, and sister Anna Long.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00am on Monday, June 17, 2019 at the Hoxie City Cemetery in Hoxie, Kansas. Visitation will be from 9:00am-10:30am on Monday before the graveside at Mickey-Leopold Funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Dolly Lovin-Shackelford Memorial Fund to help with funeral expenses and may be sent in care of Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home, PO Box 987, Hoxie, Kansas 67740.

Sandra Joyce Chapman

Sandra Joyce Chapman, age 79, passed away on June 11, 2019 at Hays Medical Center, Hays.

Funeral Service will be on Saturday, June 15, 2019, 10:30 a.m. at First Christian Church, Utica.

Viewing will be from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City with the family present from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Joy Center, Dighton or the First Christian Church, Utica.

Robert G. Boese

Robert G. Boese, 73, passed away June 12, 2019 at Diversicare of Larned.

He was born October 21, 1945 in Santa Ana, California to Vernon and Ella Eilts Boese.

A lifetime area resident he was a laborer.

He is survived by; children, Shannon Boese, Shadd Boese, Shaun (Jamie) Boese, Shaela Tullis, Joe Freel, Lynda Freel; siblings, Glenna Belcher, Lavern (Rosa) Boese, Sandra (Dennis) Sauer, Rodney (Janie) Boese, Brent Boese, Marva D. McDonald; twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Shirley Shank; and a brother-in-law, Joe Belcher.

Cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time. Memorials may be given to the Robert Boese Memorial Fund in care of Beckwith Mortuary, PO Box 477, Larned, Kansas 67550.

Larry Dean Schwartz

Larry Dean Schwartz passed from this life on June 11, 2019 at Hutchinson, Kansas.

Funeral service and interment will be held at the Bazine Cemetery on Friday, June 14, 2019 at 11:00 a.m.

Friends may sign the book at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City on Thursday, June 13 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.. The casket will be closed.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Christ Pilot Me Hill and Reno County Hospice House in care of Fitzgerald Funeral Home.

Shirley May Brungardt

Shirley May Brungardt, age 86, of Hays, Kansas passed away Monday, June 10, 2019 at Via Christi Village, Hays. She was born December 30, 1932 in Hays, Kansas to Joseph and Josephine (Bissing) Jacobs. She married Eugene Stalder on July 14, 1952. He preceded her in death on July 27, 1992. On May 19, 1997 she married Hubert Brungardt. He preceded her in death on June 16, 2018.

Shirley was a homemaker. She enjoyed singing, playing the piano, and spending time with her family.  She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church of Hays.

She is survived by a daughter, Sue Jenkins and husband David of Daytona Beach Shores, Florida; two step-daughters, LaQuita Geis and husband Rocky of McPherson, Kansas and Lisa Nelson and husband Jim of Topeka, Kansas; 4 step-grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Cecil, Clifford, Virgil and Fred Jacobs and sisters, Alice Sexton, Rosetta Palmer and Henrietta Carroll.

Funeral services will be 11 AM Friday June 14, 2019 at Brock’s-Keithley Funeral Chapel and Crematory 2509 Vine Hays, KS 67601. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Hays.

Visitation will be Thursday 6 PM – 8 PM and Friday 10 AM until service time all at the funeral chapel.

Eldon ‘Bert’ Shores

Eldon “Bert” Shores, 84, passed away June 11, 2019 at St. Catherine Hospital, Garden City, KS.

Born December 24, 1934 in Edna, KS, the son of Harold and Gleeola Neidigh Shores, a longtime area resident, he was a truck driver.

He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Jetmore.

Survivors include: children, Debbie, Duane Shores and Eula Beth (Brian) Runnion, Wichita; sister, Arnella (Gene) Webb, Jetmore; numerous grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at United Presbyterian Church, Jetmore, with Rev. Mark Durham presiding. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Beckwith Funeral Home, Jetmore. Burial will be in the Fairmount Cemetery, Jetmore.

Memorials may be given to Jetmore United Presbyterian Church in care of Beckwith Funeral Home, Box 663 Jetmore, KS 67854.

Tanner Theadore Mollendor

Tanner Theadore Mollendor passed away June 10, 2019 at the Sheridan County Health Complex in Hoxie, Kansas at the age of 38. He was born on April 4, 1981 in Holyoke, CO to Theadore and Kristee (Kemper) Mollendor. Tanner graduated in 2000 from Julesburg High School in Julesburg, CO; and later from the welding program at Northwest Kansas Technical College in Goodland, KS. Tanner was engaged to Brittany Mullins and was blessed with 5 children: Keegen, River, Lillyin, and Addysin Mollendor, and Allie Schmidt.

Tanner loved music and drumming, fishing with his kids, and riding motorcycles. His job was his passion next to his love for his children and fiancé. Tanner was a hugger and could always be found helping others.

Tanner is survived by his wife Brittany Mullins-Mollendor and son River of Hoxie; father Theadore Mollendor and wife Toni of Julesburg, CO; mother Kristee Mollendor of Colorado; maternal grandmother Phyllis Kemper of Julesburg, CO; grandparents Don & Lora Reuter of Holyoke, CO; mother and fathers in law Cara Priel and step-father Kent of North Platte, NE, and Ted Miller, III of Scottsbluff, NE; children of Tanner Mollendor and Mandi Miller, Allie Schmidt (Tim) of PA, and Lillyin, Addysin, and Keegen Mollendor of Brewster; and brothers Dane Mollendor of Julesburg, CO and Brandon Reuter and wife Taylor of Harrisburg, PA.

Preceding Tanner in death is his paternal grandparents Phillip and Mary Mollendor; maternal grandfather Orville Kemper.

Tanner was a hardworking, loving, and dedicated family man. He loved what he did and did what he loved. Although our hearts are weighing heavy during this difficult time, we can cherish the memories of the time that was his and the life that he lived. Tanner will be greatly missed; his life, his love, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

Celebration of life services will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2019 starting at 2:00 p.m. (central time zone) at Unreel Event Center, 4684 West Highway 30, North Platte, NE 69101. Food/cash bar will be served. The family would love for you to come and share your memories of Tanner. Odelia Haselhorst

Odelia Haselhorst, 97, longtime resident of Hays, died Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at Mapleton Care Center in Lakewood, Colorado.

Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced by Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.

Michael Gene McLoud

Michael Gene McLoud, age 55, of Hays, Kansas passed away Sunday, June 9, 2019 in Hays. He was born August 9, 1963 in Omaha, Nebraska to C. Gene and Lois Jean (Schutts) McLoud.

He had worked as a Chef and a Landscape Architect. He enjoyed his family and friends, cooking and being outdoors with his dogs, Chili and Habanero.

He is survived by a daughter, Kate (DeVon Gyimah) McLoud; a sister, Roberta (Bill Westemeier) McLoud; nephews, Maxwell and William Westemeier and a niece, Maricela Westemeier as well as a special friend, Sunni Rae Kohl and her son Banner Jones.

Memorial services will be 2 PM Friday, June 14, 2019 at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary 1919 E 22nd Hays, KS 67601
