Shawn Michael Hynes

Shawn Michael Hynes was born June 18, 1977 in Hays, KS and passed away June 1, 2019 as a result of a car accident in rural Saline County.

Shawn grew up and worked in Salina and the surrounding areas. He loved to be outside, working with his hands and tinkering with just about anything and everything. He and was a jack of all trades which led him to owning and operating his own business, Hynes Painting.

Survivors include his fiancé, Sue Alverson (New Cambria), sons Tristin, Ethan, Dylan, Porter and Bradyn, mother Mindy Roper-Poage (Mike) of Abilene, step-father Jeff Roper (Ramona) of North Dakota, step-mother, Izene Hynes of Hays. Sisters, Katie (Jason) of Salina and Kelly of Hays, brothers Jamie (Janell) & Dustin (Misty) both of Hays, his pet pig, Azura and his 2 dogs Summer & Ollie.

He was preceded in death by his father, Mike and his dear grandma, Alma Miller.
Cremation was chosen and there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at 1pm, Saturday, June 8th at Indian Rock Lodge followed by a private family burial in Mt. Hope, KS. Please dress casually and bring your best “Shawn” story to share.

DOWNS—Elaine Mann, 87, formerly of Norton, passed away June 5, 2019.  She was born June 23, 1931, the daughter of Dayton and Margaret (Miller) Halderman.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald; sister, Eileen Hickman; son, Kenneth Mann and granddaughter, Kendra Mann-O’Brien.

She is survived by her children: Kennis Mann (Joan) of Leawood, Kathleen Slipke (Michael) of Downs, Kaylene Thomas (Dennis) of Oberlin, Kurtis Mann (Georgia) of Norton; brother, Allan Halderman of Portland, Oregon; sister, Donna Brown of Golden, Colorado;  nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2019  at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Downs. Burial will be in the Norton Cemetery that afternoon at 3:30 p.m. A vigil/Rosary service will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday June 14, 2019 at the church.

Freda Fay Duell

Freda Fay Duell

Freda Fay Duell, aged 96, died peacefully on Monday, June 3, 2019 at the Wallace County Community Care Center, Sharon Springs, Kansas.

Freda was born Sept. 21, 1922, in Appleton City, Missouri, the daughter of Lawrence and Josie Purvis.

While in Goodland, she met her lifelong love and partner, Elmer Duell. They were married July 28, 1940, and they went on to live in Goodland and raise three boys. During that time she filled numerous roles: housewife, bookkeeper for the family business, Cub Scout Denmother, and part-time nurse’s aide at Boothroy Memorial Hospital in Goodland.  After raising a family, Freda took some well-deserved time for herself and enrolled in Goodland High School where she finished her studies and proudly graduated.  

She was a loving mother and wife always, and through bad times and good, Freda always had a beautiful sense of humor and a smile for everyone she met.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Elmer and one son Bruce Duell.

Freda is survived by two sons, Robert Duell and his wife Amy of Phoenix, Arizona, and Myron Duell and his wife Mitra of San Jose, California, 16 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and a number of other relatives and close friends.

The family wishes to thank the Wallace County Community Care Center and all of those who cared for her.

Funeral service for Freda will be at 11 a.m. MT Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Koons-Russell Funeral Home in Goodland with Pastor Tim Bonebright officiating. Burial will follow in the Goodland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. MT at the funeral home.

Harold Eugene Partin

Harold Eugene Partin, age 75, of Garden City, Kansas, died at his home on June 2, 2019.

He was born on Nov. 27, 1943 in Garden City, Kansas, the son of Miles and Opal Partin. He was raised in Garden City and graduated from Garden City High School.

Harold was the owner of Partin Electric and on the Garden City Electrical Board for a number of years.

He was lead singer and guitarist of a local band “The Rebels” in the ’70’s.  He was a recreational pilot, enjoyed crossword puzzles and camping with family, but his favorite thing to do was spending time with his grandchildren. As a young boy he liked working at his grandfather’s “Pop” Laughlin’s Produce Market. 

On November 2, 1961, he was married to Janis Kay King. They were married 51 years. She preceded him in death on October 7, 2012.

Survivors include:

One sister: Audra Fae Smith and husband Lavern of Borger, Texas

Two sons: Kevin Partin and wife Rebecca of Garden City, Kansas and Steve Partin and wife Kim of Garden City, Kansas

Six grandchildren: Rheanna Kitch, Bryan Ingalls, Brynna Ingalls, Breanna Betts, Jasper Partin, Jacob Partin

Four great-grandchildren: Austin Kitch, Aiden Alnor, Kelbi Alnor, Anderson Ingalls

Two nieces: Rhonda Subrink and Pamela Flores

Four nephews: Rick Partin, Randy Partin, Gary Partin, Eddie Partin

He was preceded in death by his parents Miles and Opal Partin; wife Janis Partin; one brother Arnold Partin and sister in-law Carol Partin

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2019 at the Assembly of God Church in Garden City, Kansas.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 7, 2019 at Price and Sons Funeral Home of Garden City.

Interment will be held at the Valley View Cemetery in Garden City following the funeral service.

Paul R. Hernandez

Paul R. Hernandez, age 84, passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at the Park Lane Nursing Home in Scott City, Kansas. He was born on June 18, 1934 in Post, Texas, the son of Vicente and Mary Rangel Hernandez. A resident of Scott City, Kansas, since 1969, moving from Plainview, Texas, he was a farmer.

He was a member of the Assembly Of God Church in Scott City.

Paul was married three times. From his first marriage to Stella, his surviving children are Rosemary, Janie, Margie, Mario, Irene, Roger and Joe. His second was to Rene Jane Castanuela, his surviving children are Belinda, Michael and Victoria. His third marriage was to Agnes. He is also survived by three brothers — Ben Hernandez, Tibursio Hernandez, Jimmy Hernandez and two sisters — Geneva Lopez and Lupe Lopez, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two wives and four children — Paul Jr., Gilbert, Thomas, Gloria, and one grandson — Manuel.

The memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Friday, June 7, 2019 at the Assembly Of God Church in Scott City, Kansas, with Pastor Ed Sanderson presiding.

Interment will be in the Scott County Cemetery in Scott City, Kansas.

Memorials can be given to the Paul Hernandez Memorial Fund in care of Price & Sons Funeral Homes.

Michelle D. Unruh

Michelle D. Unruh, 47, died on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at St Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

She was born on February 15, 1972 in Garden City the daughter of James Willard & Carla Jean (Brooks) Barker. She married Marshal S. Unruh on June 23, 1990 at Holcomb.

Michelle graduated from Garden City High School in 1990. She was a homemaker and home school teacher. She enjoyed jet skiing, shopping, cooking, facebooking, farm animals and especially her family activities. She was involved in jail ministry and loved Jesus Christ and teaching her children about the Bible. She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her Parents and Son- Nathan Unruh.

She is survived by her Husband- Marshal Unruh of the home, 2 Sons- Andrew Unruh of Canon City, Colorado and Greg Unruh of Deerfield, Daughter- Jordyn Goetz of Hoxie and Granddaughter- Zoe Dawn Unruh.

Funeral Service will be at 2:00 PM Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Holcomb with Pastor Jonathan Sanders officiating. Burial will follow at Deerfield Cemetery.

Joyce L. Rupp

Phillipsburg resident Joyce L. Rupp passed away Saturday, June 1, 2019 at the Andbe Home in Norton, KS at the age of 77.

She was born in Natoma, KS on May 12, 1942, the daughter of Floyd & Eva (Kirkendall) Beisner. Her husband, Leo, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her son, Leo, of California; two sisters, Linda Getty of Rusk, TX and Donna Wodecki of Holyoke, MA; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 6, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Blake Stanwood officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 5, from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Kirwin resident Bob L. Eakin passed away Monday, June 3, 2019 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE at the age of 60.

Bob was born March 13, 1959 in Beloit, KS, the son of Robert Lee and Betty (Staley) Eakin. He married June Roth on Dec. 8, 1998.

Survivors include his wife, June, of Kirwin, KS; sons, Ryan Eakin of Colorado Springs, CO and Curtis Bretton of Kirwin; daughters, Connie Sivertsen of Manhattan, KS, Lisa Hall and Teresa Starkey, both of Kirwin; his brother, George Eakin; two sisters, Roberta Jackson and Sandra VanWey; 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Saturday, June 8, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Chris Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Kirwin Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday & Friday, June 6 & 7, from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Loretta M. McCall, 52, of Russell, Kansas, died on Tuesday June 04, 2019, at her home in Russell.

Sheila Beougher

Sheila Beougher passed away Sunday, June 2, 2019, on her 77th birthday at Gove County Medical Center in Quinter, Kansas.

She was born June 2, 1942, in Garden City, Kansas, the daughter of Harold J. and Vera (Jennison) Lundgren.

Sheila graduated from Gove Rural High School in 1960. She attended Fort Hays State University, then returned to Gove where she worked at the Gove County ASCS office. Later, she became a full-time homemaker and farm wife.

She was united in marriage to James E. Beougher on September 1, 1962. Sheila and Jim were blessed with two children, son Gregory Lance and daughter Traci Ranae.

Sheila was an avid photographer and captured countless memories of friends, family, and nature throughout the years. She even had her spectacular tornado photograph printed on the cover of the Time Life Storms book and prominently displayed at the Kansas Museum of History in Topeka. Sheila was known for sending thoughtful greeting cards that she embellished with her beautiful handwriting. She and Jim traveled together all over the state proudly supporting their kids and grandkids in their many endeavors.

Sheila is survived by her loving husband Jim, son Greg and wife Marcy of Stockton, daughter Traci Kennemer and husband Rob of Hays; Grandchildren Koby Beougher and wife Sydney of Hays, Morgan Beougher and fiancé Colton Hull, Brady and Blaire Beougher of Stockton, Abby and Brandon Kennemer of Hays; Great Granddaughter Aria Beougher of Hays; Brothers Larry Lundgren and wife Anita and Darrell (Slim) Lundgren and wife Pam; Brothers-in-law Bill Beougher, and Steve Beougher and wife Janette; Sisters-in-law Shirley Walker, Judy Zerr and husband Delbert, Suzi Goetz and husband Stan, and Dee Beougher; Numerous nieces and nephews whom she held close to her heart.

Sheila was preceded in death by her parents.

Sheila was very special because she truly loved people. She was very warm and welcoming and just enjoyed spending time with others and being part of their lives. She had so many family members, friends and even just acquaintances who loved her because she was so kind and genuine to all. Sheila will be missed by many, but the fond memories she left with us will be in our hearts forever.

The funeral service will be Friday, June 7, 2019, 1:00 PM at the Oakley United Methodist Church, Oakley, KS. Burial will follow at the Gove City Cemetery, Gove, KS. Visitation will be held at Schmitt Funeral Home, Quinter, KS, June 6, 2019, from 5:00-7:00 PM.
