Gerald and Leona started their married life on a farm near Jennings, Kansas. Gerald spent most of his life managing grain elevators in Selden and Republic, Kansas. He was a 50+ year member of Knights of Columbus, a member of the American Legion and Lion’s Club. He served on the Golden Plains School Board for sixteen years.
He was very proud of his WWII service, but was most proud of his family. His favorite activities were watching his grandchildren play basketball, soccer, tennis, dance and act in plays.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Leona, of the home in Newton, Kansas; his five children and spouses, Sherry Watts (Harry) of Manhattan, Kansas, Geralyn Parker (Lauren) of Goodland, Kansas, Joseph Rogers (Stephanie) of Davison, Michigan, Scott Rogers (Julie) of Larned, Kansas, and Tami Carlgren (Randy) of Newton, Kansas; 12 grandchildren and spouses, Anthony Parker (Amy), Father Nicholas Parker, Jillian Korte (Drew), Stuart Watts, Diana Watts, Conrad Rogers (Michelle), Jennifer Rogers, Hunter Rogers (Shazia), Melanie Morrison (Cameronn), Meredith Peterson (Johnathan), Joshua Carlgren (Kenzie) and Hannah Carlgren; and three great-grandchildren, Cole Parker, Scarlett Korte, and Cameronn Morrison.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Rogers and mother, Myrtle Warner; and great-grandchild, Camri Morrison.
A Mass of Christian Burial is planned for Thursday, May 16, 2019, 10:30 A.M. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Selden, Kansas with his Grandson, Father Nicholas Parker presiding. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 15, 2019 from 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. with a Rosary and Vigil Service being held at 7:00 P.M, and family will receive friends from 5:30 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. all at the Pauls Funeral Home in Selden, Kansas. Gerald was a faithful member of the Catholic Church, a proud Grandfather, loving father and devoted husband. He will be greatly missed by his wife and family.
A lifetime Great Bend resident, Denise was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose. She loved bowling, CB radios, country music, John Wayne movies and especially loved spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include, one brother, Dennis Wolf and wife Kandi of Great Bend; three sisters, Karla Vandivier and husband Paul of La Crosse, Paula Shaw and husband Kirby of Bison, and Lorain Sturn of Kansas City, MO; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and beloved friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and grandparents, Anthony and Amelia Wolf, and Joseph and Marcella Plante.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 16, 2019, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Rev. Dick Ogle presiding. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date.

Carol Raya, 65, of Hutchinson, passed away on May 11, 2019 at her home in the presence of her family. She is home now with her Lord Jesus.
To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:8.
Carol was born on June 20, 1953, the daughter of Claude Dewey and Mavis Lorraine (Graves) Bishop. She was one of twelve siblings and was blessed to be part of a close extended family.
She was a loving, kind and beautiful daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. Carol was a member of CrossPoint Church in Hutchinson. Carol was a loving mother to Dawn (Shawn) Cole , Jaime (Adam) Long, Nicolette (Jason) Lindstrom and Nicholas (Kristal) Raya. She was loved dearly by her nine grandchildren Brooke, Noah, Benjamin, Ava, John, Jacob, Natalie, Draven and Asher.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 16th, 8 a.m. – 1 p.m., at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th St. Hutchinson, KS.
A Graveside Service to be held at 2 p.m. Fairlawn Burial Park, 2401 Carey Blvd., Hutchinson, KS. Followed by a Celebration of Life gathering at Richman Arboretum, 2801 Dillon Ave, Hutchinson, KS. 5 pm. – 8 pm.

Phillips County resident Elda Mae Hanke passed away May 11, 2019 at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg at the age of 86.
Survivors include her son Alan of rural Phillipsburg; 2 daughters, Robin Chester of Glade & Terri Hanke of Jennings; 4 grandchildren & 7 great grandchildren.

Bellevue, Wash., resident, Norma (Shearer) Mason, passed away April 9, 2019. She was born Jan 7, 1924 in Cheyenne, WY.

Cremation was chosen. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 17 in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Blake Stanwood officiating.

Carol Jean Herber, 84, passed away Friday, May 10, 2019 at her home in Salina, KS. She was born February 9, 1935 in rural Russell County to Carl and Carrie (Cook) Kaufman. Carol graduated from Dorrance High School with the class of 1953. She was united in marriage to Richard Edward Herber at the Dorrance Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death on March 1, 1986.
Carol was very active in her community. She was a member of Altrusa, the Chamber of Commerce, and was on the Board of Directors at Citizen State Bank. She also was very involved in the Salina Home and Garden Show. Carol was an entrepreneur. She owned and operated many businesses. In her spare time she enjoyed planting and tending to her flowers in her backyard, traveling, and K-State Football; but what she enjoyed most was spending time with her grandkids.
Left to cherish her memory is her son Jeffrey Alan Herber and wife Marcelle of Wood River, NE; daughter Jo Lynn Groening and husband Karl of Peoria, AZ; sisters Dorothy Bay of Russell, KS and Leona Champion of San Jose, CA; 4 grandchildren, Kyle Herber, Matthew Herber, Richard Groening, and David Groening; and 4 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents Carl and Carrie; husband Richard; son Ricky Dee Herber; brothers Lloyd Kaufman and Orville Kaufman; and sisters Helen Stickney and LaFern Prediger.
Carol not only tenderly cared for her flowers, but more importantly she sowed the seeds of love and laughter into the lives of those closest to her. Although we will miss her greatly, we rejoice that she is now reaping the bountiful harvest of her hard work and loving labor, in the company of her Lord, until we see her again.

Logan resident Ruth B. Gibeau died March 13, 2019 at the Phillips County Retirement Center in Phillipsburg at the age of 94. She was born Oct. 9, 1924 in Graham Co., KS, the daughter of Elmer & Zetta (Mounce) Kincheloe.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Barnes & husband Merle of Kent, WA; 2 grandchildren & 2 great grandchildren.
Cremation was chosen. A memorial service will be held Sat. May 18 at 2:00 p.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Troy Buss officiating.

Dana J. Nelson, age 63, of Concordia, KS, left this earthly life on Sunday, May 12, 2019 at Via Christi-St. Francis, Wichita, KS. She was born on June 10, 1955 in Pratt, KS to Carl R. & Marvel L. (Gorsky) McGuire.
Dana graduated from WaKeeney High School in 1973. She then attended Ft. Hays State Univ. and received a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education and later her Master’s degree from Kansas State Univ. She moved in 1977 and began teaching school in Concordia, KS where she met and married Steve Nelson on June 20, 1987 at The Baptist Church. They resided in Concordia, KS and she taught elementary school for 36 years until she retired in 2013. Even after retirement, she continued to substitute teach and work as a Title 1 Reading para-professional, where she has been working full time for the past couple years. Her students were her children and she always made it a point to reach out to them, check up on them and continue to ‘teach’ them long after they were out of her classroom.
Dana was a faithful member of The Baptist Church, Concordia; The Baptist Women; Alpha Sigma Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority and her very special group, ‘The Pickles”. She was also a very proud aunt and took that responsibility as seriously as she did her classroom.
She is survived by her husband, Steve, Concordia; brothers, R. Gary (Kim) McGuire, Mulvane & Craig (Sheila), Hays; several nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews; a host of other relatives, friends, colleagues & community members.
But even more importantly are all the children, past and present, whose lives she has forever touched and changed because of the loving care, compassion and desire to teach children that she lived her life with every day!
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, May 16, 2019 at The Brown Grand Theatre, Concordia with Pastor Jonathan Peppers officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia. Glen E. Cheney, age 53, passed away on Monday, May 13, 2019 at the Park Lane Nursing Home in Scott City, Kansas.
He was born on August 13, 1965 in Garden City, Kansas, the son of Howard Edwin and Lauretta SImmons Cheney. A lifetime resident of Scott City, Kansas, he was a farmer.
Survivors include his Mother – Lauretta Cheney of Scott City, Kansas, Two Brothers – Greg Cheney of Chapman, Kansas, Gary Cheney of Scott City, Kansas, Two Sisters – Judy Thomas of Scott City, Kansas, Karla Sharpe of Scott City, Kansas, and numerous nieces & nephews.

Burial will be in the Scott County Cemetery in Scott City, Kansas.

Delores “Lorie” Van Oudenhoven, age 87, passed away on Friday, May 10, 2019 at St. Elizabeth Hospital with her family by her side, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Lorie was born in Schoenchen, Kansas on December 9, 1931 to Alexander and Josephine Schmidt. She attended Hays High School and afterwards cosmetology school, moving to Wisconsin in 1950. She met Gerald Van Oudenhoven and they were united in marriage on May 30, 1952 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Menasha.
Lorie loved spending time with friends and family, dancing, watching her games shows, casino trips and playing bingo. She was a beautiful spirit that loved and enjoyed life to the fullest. She will be remembered for her infectious personality and heart-warming laugh.
Lorie was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Van Oudenhoven. She is survived by her daughter, Pamela (Eric); sons, Daniel and Henry (Sue); grandchildren: Chélis (Freddy), Andrea (Charlie), Dana, Chase (Vidya), Deanna (Ray), Jerrod (Molly); great-grandchildren: Adrian, Nyla, Cadence, Merritt, Willow, Brayden, Elliana, and Miles; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
The Memorial Mass for Lorie will be held at 11:30 am on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at St. Gabriel Parish, 900 Geiger Street, Neenah, Wis., with Rev. Larry Seidl officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 am until the hour of the mass. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established.

Kathleen Robinson, 86, of Land O Lakes, Fl., passed away on June 15, 2018. She was born in Manila, Philippines and after living all over the world, Kathleen moved to Land O Lakes in 2005. She proudly served in the United States Army, was an occupational therapist, a Military Historian, and among many other things enjoyed being a homemaker for her family. Strong in her faith, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Land O Lakes.
Kathleen also was an avid bird watcher and an artist who loved to paint. Her other hobbies included gardening, playing the piano, and reading. She is preceded in death by her son Nelson C. Robinson at age of 29, husband of 45 years, Wallace N. Robinson, and is survived by her daughter, Susan Selby and her husband Douglass Selby; her two sons, Mark Robinson and his husband, John Freiermuth; James Robinson and his wife, Leslie Church-Robinson; and her four grandchildren, Mathew Selby, Rachel Selby, Lance Robinson, and Jason Robinson. Kathleen loved spending time with her family, friends, and church family and will be deeply missed.
Kathleen graduated from San Jose State University and upon joining the Army, became an Occupational Therapist. She strived to rehabilitate Korean War amputees and many servicemen suffering from Tuberculosis.
She moved to Kansas with her family in the early 1970’s where she helped her husband build Ranching and Hotel businesses. She was active in the Episcopal Church and still found the time to further pursue her love of nature and art. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother, taught Vacation Bible School and enjoyed interior design. She lost her son Nelson in a motorcycle accident in 1993 but never lost sight of her loves and duties. She was overjoyed to have added a third son back to her life this past March.
She was a lifelong member of the Audubon Society, Sierra Club, Nature Conservancy, NRA, MOAA, PEO, and far too many more to mention.
Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Scott City, Kansas with Father Don Martin presiding.
