99 KZ Country: Interview with Justin Rumford

khaz justin rumford 20130801Kansas’ Biggest Rodeo in Phillipsburg is August 1, 2 and 3, 2013.

Get info on the website or facebook page.

Rodeo Clown and Barrelman Justin Rumford visited the KHAZ Studio to talk with Theresa Trapp.

Justin Rumford – Rodeo Clown

The clown for the 2013 Kansas’ Biggest Rodeo is no stranger to Phillipsburg.

Justin Rumford has been coming to Phillipsburg since he was in eighth grade, always rodeo related.

He competed in high school rodeo there, winning the saddle bronc riding title three consecutive years in the late 1990’s. Then he competed there as a steer wrestler, before being a truck driver and help for Beutler and Son Rodeo.

Now he returns as rodeo clown and funnyman.

Justin, the 2012 PRCA Clown of the Year, is naturally funny and quick witted. He’s always looking for new and current material. “I watch funny movies and try to keep up with what’s going on (in pop culture),” he said. “I try to make my acts like skits: short, fun and funny, not complicated.”

The Ponca City, Okla. clown will bring a variety of acts to town, including his Steve Irwin Crocodile Hunter, Motorcycle Act, and Basketball Act.

No matter what he does, he’s having fun. “I have a great time, no matter what’s going on. I just keep a good attitude and have a ball, and it’s contagious.”
