KHAZ Music News: Dolly Says She’d Consider Joining ‘The Voice’

(AP) – She says she’s been “asked to do American Idol and X Factor almost every time they do a new series” but she always turns them down. However, Dolly Parton tells Britain’s Daily Star that she would consider joining the panel of ‘The Voice’ because she says it’s a “wonderful show” where she wouldn’t have to “judge that much” and as she puts it she “hesitates to judge people.”

KHAZ Music News: Willie Nelson: Honored, Poked Fun Of, At CMA Awards

(AP) – They came to honor Willie Nelson. But the hosts of the CMA Awards also came to poke a little fun at the heavy-toking country legend. Nelson was given a lifetime achievement award – an award that is named after him. But the honored guest was the subject of some gentle teasing by hosts Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley. Paisley said while Nelson was being honored, the CMA was also stripping him of all of his awards. Chimed in Underwood, “it appears there’s been some doping charges.” The noted pot smoker said: “Guilty!” After performing with Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Lady Antebellum and Blake Shelton and receiving his award, an emotional Nelson thanked the CMA and the city of Nashville for honoring him.

     Song of the Year: “Over You,” Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert.
     Single of the Year: “Pontoon,” Little Big Town.
     Male Vocalist of the Year: Blake Shelton.
     Female Vocalist of the Year: Miranda Lambert.
     New Artist of the Year: Hunter Hayes.
     Vocal Duo of the Year: Thompson Square.
     Vocal Group of the Year: Little Big Town.
     Musician of the Year: Mac McAnally.
     Music Video of the Year: “Red Solo Cup,” Toby Keith.
     Musical Event: “Feel like a Rock Star,” Kenny Chesney duet with Tim McGraw.

KHAZ Music News: Tom T. Hall Honored At BMI Awards

(AP) – Country Hall of Fame member Tom T. Hall was honored at the BMI Country Awards Tuesday night. The 76-year-old singer-songwriter known by fans as “The Storyteller” says he was “very proud of the fact” that he could get back into his tuxedo, which has been out of commission for the last 12 years. Hall had a string of No. 1 hits including “Harper Valley PTA.” Toby Keith, The Avett Brothers, bluegrass stars Dailey & Vincent and Justin Townes Earle all performed songs by Hall at the tribute.

KHAZ Music News: Brad Paisley And Carrie Underwood Preview The CMA Awards

(AP) – For the fifth straight year, Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood are co-hosting the Country Music Association Awards. There’ll be a few surprises and some humor in the mix according to the pair, as well as a tribute to Willie Nelson. But helping the Red Cross raise money for victims of superstorm Sandy will also be an important part of the show. The CMA Awards airs live at 7 p.m. Central Time tonight on ABC.

KHAZ Music News: Blake Shelton Gets Christmas TV Special

(AP) – Blake Shelton is getting his own holiday television special. And even though he’s calling it “Blake’s Not So Family Christmas” show, his mom and his wife Miranda Lambert will both make appearances just like they do on his new holiday album, ‘Cheers.’ Reba McEntire and Kelly Clarkson will also join Shelton for the holiday special which premieres December 3 on NBC.

KHAZ Music News: George Jones Reported Ill

(AP) – A Minnesota casino says country star George Jones is ill and has canceled a concert scheduled this week. Jones was scheduled to perform tomorrow at Shooting Star Casino, Hotel and Event Center in Mahnomen. That concert had been rescheduled from April when the singer needed more time to recover from an upper respiratory infection. Shooting Star released a statement from Jones’ management team, saying the 81-year-old performer has a virus and is being treated by doctors. Jones apologized to fans for the inconvenience. Shooting Star says there are no plans to reschedule the performance.

KHAZ Music News: Darius Rucker To Release New Album January 22

(AP) – Next year brings new music from Darius Rucker. He’s releasing his third country album on January 22nd. It’s called “True Believers” and features twelve tracks. Rucker says he really paid attention to what friends and fans were saying on the road and the result is an album he’s “so proud of.” Rucker says his fans “really have been the true believers” since he released his first single to country radio.

KHAZ Music News: Tim McGraw Announces New Album Release Date

(AP) – Tim McGraw is finally free to record new music, and he’s releasing a new album on February 5th. It’s appropriately called “Two Lanes of Freedom.” This is his first album since his battle with Curb Records over contract obligations. McGraw will perform his new single “One of Those Nights” during the CMA Awards on Thursday.

KHAZ Music News: Two CMA Award Winners To Be Announced On ‘GMA’ Tomorrow

(AP) – We don’t have to wait until Thursday night to find out some of the CMA Award winners. For the first time, two categories will be announced on “Good Morning America” from Nashville. The categories are musical event and music video of the year. The rest of the awards will be handed out tomorrow night. “Good Morning America” will also feature a performance from Reba McEntire and an appearance by CMA Awards co-host Brad Paisley.

KHAZ Music News: Shania Twain Rehearsing In Vegas

(AP) – Shania Twain is gearing up for her Las Vegas residency, and she’s already had what she calls her “first favorite moment.” She tweeted a photo of her with Elton John, saying “a genuine welcome hug from music hero Elton John backstage in ‘our’ dressing room.” Her show, called “Shania – Still The One” begins December 1st at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace.

KHAZ Music News: Jason Aldean Raises Over Half A Million To Fight Breast Cancer

(AP) – Jason Aldean’s efforts are paying off in the fight against breast cancer. He raised over $509,000 during his seventh annual “Concert for the Cure” in Dallas. The money will help support the local chapter of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Aldean played to a sold-out crowd of more than 20,000 people on the last stop of his “My Kinda Party” tour.
