KHAZ Country Music News: 2013 CMA Collaborations

khaz cma awards 20130821NASHVILLE (AP) – The Country Music Association is planning some big-name collaborations for its awards show next month. Taylor Swift, Vince Gill and Alison Krauss will do a version of Swift’s song “Red.” Zac Brown Band will perform with singer Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters. Hunter Hayes and Jason Mraz will do a song together. The CMAs will be November 6 and air on ABC.

KHAZ Country Music News: Dolly Parton Recovering from Fender Bender

khaz dolly parton 20131022NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Dolly Partonr is home resting after being treated and released for minor injuries she suffered in a car crash she described as “a fender bender.”

Kirt Webster says Parton was already home Monday afternoon following the accident that happened shortly before noon CDT in Nashville, Tenn. Parton says in a statement that she’s “all good. Just a little tired and sore.”

Police say the 67-year-old Country Music Hall of Fame member was riding in an SUV that was hit by another vehicle. Parton and the two others were taken to local hospitals for treatment. A news release says none of the injuries appeared serious.

KHAZ Country Music News: Big September Digital Downloads for Country Artists

khaz george strait 20130312MCA’s George Strait, Valory’s Thomas Rhett, Capitol’s Luke Bryan, WMN’sBlake Shelton and Republic Nashville’s The Band Perry were among artists honored by the Recording Industry Association of America in September for digital downloads and on-demand streams of their singles and albums. “Give It All We Got Tonight” earned Strait’s first Platinum Digital Single award and “It Goes Like This” brought Rhett his first Gold certification. Bryan and Shelton earned Platinum awards for their albums Crash My Party and Based On A True Story…, respectively, while The Band Perry got their second Gold album award for Pioneer.

Kenny Chesney (BNA)Kenny Chesney has teamed withBuilding Conservation Trust to match the funds raised by the Coastal Conservation Association‘s project to place two man-made reefs in the mouth of Jacksonville’s St. John River. “When you can have a hand in stewarding the health of the ocean,” says Chesney, “you’re insuring the survival of something very necessary for all of us, whether you’re a beach person or someone that won’t go near the water. The ecological balance is very delicate, especially in Florida, so I am honored to help them achieve this goal.”

KHAZ Country Music News: Carrie Underwood to Receive Humanitarian Award

khaz carrie underwood 20121218Country Radio Broadcasters will present their 2014 Artist Humanitarian Award to Carrie Underwood, who will be officially honored Feb. 19 during the Country Radio Seminar opening ceremonies. “In a format rich with artists that are generous with their time and talents for a wide variety of worthy causes and needs, Carrie Underwood has distinguished herself with her depth of kindnesses and commitment to making a positive difference,” says CRS President Charlie Morgan. Underwood’s charitable endeavors include the establishment of C.A.T.S. (Checotah Animal, Town and School) in her hometown of Checotah, OK, and involvement in the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Save The Children, American Idol‘s Idol Gives Back and the USO. She also recently donated $1 million from The Blown Away Tour to the American Red Cross and Canadian Red Cross for disaster relief.

KHAZ Country Music News: More Dates for Shania’s Show

khaz shania twain 20130508LAS VEGAS (AP) – If you wanted to catch Shania Twain’s Vegas act but can’t get to the desert until next year, you just caught a break. Twain has added another 15 dates to her Vegas calendar. The dates are January 22 through February 15 – and tickets go on sale on Friday. Twain began her “Shania: Still The One” shows in October and they will run into next month. The shows mark her first full year performing at Caesars Palace in an event that features trained horses, a live band – and a flying motorcycle.

KHAZ Country Music News: CMA George Jones Tribute

khaz george jones 20130503NASHVILLE, Tennessee (AP) – George Jones may be gone, but he certainly won’t be forgotten at this year’s Country Music Association Awards. The CMA says two of its most-nominated singers – George Strait and Alan Jackson – will team up in a tribute to the late country legend. Jones died earlier this year at age 81. Now that Strait is performing, all five of the entertainer-of-the-year nominees will be singing during the November 6 ceremony in Nashville. The others are Taylor Swift, Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton.

khaz wynonna judd 20121205LOS ANGELES (AP) – Wynonna Judd had so many people comment on the shoes she wears on stage she decided to create her own shoe line. The Got Soul collection will have flats, wedges and sneakers, and they’ll all be bedazzled. The shoes come out in time for the holidays. Judd has some other plans for the holiday season as well. She’ll launch her “A Simpler Christmas” tour on December 3 in Bakersfield, California.

Ellis, KS resident Rylee Werth is a finalist to perform the national anthem at the 2013 National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas in December.  She is competing in the Youth Category.

KHAZ Country Music News: Cal Smith Dead at 81

khaz cal smith 20131014“Country Bumpkin” singer Cal Smith died Thursday (10/10) in Branson, MO at age 81. Born in Gans, OK April 7, 1932, Smith worked as a on-air personality for KEEN/San Jose before joining Earnest Tubb’s Texas Troubadours on rhythm guitar in 1962. He signed with Kapp Records after leaving Tubb’s band in 1966. Among his most notable recordings are “It’s Time To Pay The Fiddler,” which earned him CMA Single Of The Year in 1974, and Bill Anderson’s “The Lord Knows I’m Drinking.” No details on the cause of death or funeral arrangements have been released.
