The Doors will be honored this November at the 10th annual Classic Rock Awards — the Classic Rock Roll of Honour. The band is this year’s recipient of the Inspiration Award.
The annual event is hosted by the U.K.-based Classic Rock magazine.
This year’s ceremony will be held in the U.S. for the first time at The Avalon in Hollywood on November 4.
Surviving Doors members, guitarist Robby Krieger and drummer John Densmore, will be presented with the award at the ceremony.
Krieger and Densmore issued a statement saying, “In 1965 and ’66, our brothers across the pond were making a lot of beautiful noise, and we attempted to create our own magical sound out here on the West Coast. It’s really nice to see them now turning around, coming back here to L.A., and recognizing what the four of us accomplished together on a beach in Venice, California.”
Krieger and Densmore added, “To receive this award on our own soil, from the Brits, is an honor, and we take it as a sign of respect, so–thank you, from us and on behalf of our fallen brothers, Jim [Morrison] and Ray [Manzarek].”
Gregg Allman will be presented with a Living Legend Award at the ceremony.
As previously announced, the event will be hosted by Sammy Hagar and will air on AXS TV in December.
The annual Classic Rock Roll of Honour will also hand out awards in categories such as Band of the Year, Best New Band, Album of the Year and Reissue of the Year. You can vote at ClassicRockMagazine.com/awards.

A new eBook based on a long-out-of-print authorized biography of Fleetwood Mac was recently released via Apple’s iBooks store and iTunes.
Before the Beginning: A Personal and Opinionated History of Fleetwood Mac, by author Sam Graham, tells the band’s story from its late-’60s origins as a U.K.-based blues outfit through its Rumours-era heyday as one of the world’s most popular pop-rock acts.
In putting together the eBook, Graham revisited his 1978 publication Fleetwood Mac — The Authorized History, and added multimedia content with help from artist and illustrator Kirsten Huntley.
The eBook includes 30 digitized audio clips from cassette-tape interviews the writer conducted with Mick Fleetwood, Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie; former Fleetwood Mac members Jeremy Spencer and the late Bob Welch; and early producer Mike Vernon.
Before the Beginning also offers scanned images of letters sent between Graham and ex-Fleetwood Mac manager Clifford Davis, autographed photos, notes from conversations Sam had with Mac bassist John McVie and founding lead guitarist Peter Green, and a timeline of the band’s history from 1967 to 1983.
With regard to what’s included in the text of the eBook, Graham notes, “The Lindsey-Stevie era is by far the longest and most productive, but they had an inspiring and tumultuous prior history, so that’s in there too. We tried to satisfy both those who knew there was a Fleetwood Mac before ‘Rhiannon’ or Rumours and those who didn’t.”
Before the Beginning costs $4.99.

Gregg Allman has made a legal maneuver in an attempt to protect himself from liability in lawsuits brought against him in the wake of the fatal accident that took place this past February during the filming of a scene for Midnight Rider, the film based on his life story.
Variety reports that the Allman Brothers Band frontman filed a claim against the movie’s producers Tuesday in Georgia’s Chatham County Court asserting that the film’s producers had agreed to indemnify him from liability stemming from the incident, in which a 27-year-old camera assistant named Sarah Jones was killed and eight crew members were injured.
Allman also is asking to have his name removed from a civil suit initiated by Jones’ parents, maintaining that he shouldn’t be held responsible for the actions of the filmmakers.
Allman and his manager, Michael Lehman, served as executive producers on the biopic, but they assert that they weren’t involved in specific production decisions like the one that allegedly led to the accident.
The singer and his manager say they signed an agreement with Unclaimed Freight Productions, the company owned by the husband-and-wife director/producer team of Randall Miller and Jody Savin, that grants them protection from liability.
In their claim, Allman and Lehman maintain that they had “no authority or control over the selection of locations for filming.” In addition, they characterize the incident that caused Jones death as “a pre-production excursion in which others sought to steal a scene shot on a live train trestle.”
As previously reported, the accident occurred on the first day of filming, when a train unexpectedly crossed a trestle bridge near Jesup, Georgia, where the filmmakers were attempting to shoot a dream sequence that involved placing a metal hospital bed on the tracks.
In addition to civil lawsuits, Miller, Savin, executive producer Jay Sedrish and assistant director Hillary Schwartz all face involuntary manslaughter and criminal trespass charges in connection to the incident.
