On the heels of the recently released James Brown biopic Get On Up, a full-length documentary focusing on the Godfather of Soul titled Mr. Dynamite: The Rise of James Brown will premiere on HBO on October 27 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
The film was produced and includes an appearance by Mick Jagger, who also was one of the executive producers of Get On Up.
Directed by veteran documentary filmmaker Alex Gibney, Mr. Dynamite follows Brown’s career from his early success as an R&B singer through his emergence as a pioneering funk artist and civil-rights activist.
The movie was made with the cooperation of the late entertainer’s estate, and includes rare and previously unseen film footage and photos of “the hardest working man in show business.”
“We had full access to amazing never-before-seen photos and video from James Brown’s estate, which Alex Gibney used brilliantly to tell the story of James’ career from its inception through its pinnacle,” says Jagger in a statement.
“We spoke with the extraordinary people who knew James well and worked alongside him throughout his career. By hearing their fascinating stories and memories, we were able to paint the full picture of James as both a musical artist and social activist, whose legacy and impact on the music industry is ever-present.”
Gibney, meanwhile, reveals that Jagger “reached out to” him to ask him if he’d direct the movie, while noting that they shared the same goal for the project, “to take the music of James Brown and put it into a larger historical context.”
Mr. Dynamite features archival interviews with Brown, as well as new conversations with Jagger, Rev. Al Sharpton, Public Enemy’s Chuck D, Questlove of The Roots and such Brown collaborators as Maceo Parker, Clyde Stubblefield, Alfred “Pee Wee” Ellis, Bootsy Collins and Fred Wesley.

As Ringo Starr’s fans know, the former Beatles drummer is all about promoting “peace and love,” so it’s not surprising that he’d be upset over reports that some murderous British-born Islamic militants have been given nicknames by their fellow jihadists corresponding to those of Fab Four members.
Among the militants is one that reportedly goes by the name of “Jihadi John,” who is suspected being the man seen beheading two U.S. journalists in separate gruesome videos released by the Islamic militant group ISIS in recent weeks.
Speaking Thursday with the London Evening Standard, Starr fumed, “It’s bull. What they are doing out there is against everything The Beatles stood for.”
Ringo added that he feels helpless about the monikers of his old band’s members being used by such a violent group of people.
“If we stood for anything we never stood for that,” the 74-year-old rock legend declared. “The four of us absolutely stood for peace and love. But we are not in control.”
A former ISIS hostage revealed that three British militants guarding hostages in Syria had been labeled with the nicknames John, Paul and Ringo because of their accents.

Last week, Led Zeppelin debuted a trailer for the upcoming deluxe reissues of the band’s classic 1971 album, Led Zeppelin IV, that featured a segment of an unreleased rough early mix of the record’s lead track, “Black Dog.”
Now, a full version of the rarity has premiered on RollingStone.com.
The song, which kicks off the companion audio disc included with the Deluxe and Super Deluxe Editions of Led Zeppelin IV, is titled “Black Dog (Basic Track with Guitar Overdubs)” and is notable for some of the extremely high notes frontman Robert Plant hits.
“‘Black Dog’ is obviously one of the songs that Led Zeppelin is really noted for,” guitarist Jimmy Page, who’s overseeing the reissue campaign, tells Rolling Stone.
“It’s one of the powerhouse numbers that we did with an incredible riff. The version on the companion disc is a rough mix in its early stage with minimal guitar overdubs and Robert’s original vocal. And you can hear how mean it is.”
The Led Zeppelin IV bonus disc will feature unheard versions of all eight songs from the original album, including an alternate version of “Stairway to Heaven” that was recorded at Sunset Sound Studio in Los Angeles.
The remastered editions of Led Zeppelin IV will be released on October 28, as will revamped versions of the group’s 1973 album, Houses of the Holy.
For details about the different configurations of the reissues that will be available for purchase, visit LedZeppelin.com.

CHICAGO (AP) – Garth Brooks couldn’t find a digital music service he liked, so he created his own. Brooks has been a longtime holdout for selling his music digitally but he’s now selling it through GhostTunes.com. He’s a part owner. Brooks says the site is friendlier to artists and to consumers. He’s selling his entire catalog, plus an upcoming live album, his upcoming studio album and the studio album he’ll put out next year as a bundle for what he calls a “stupid” price: $30. Brooks says if you waited all this time for him to go digital, you should be rewarded. The site also sells millions of recordings from other artists as well.

UNDATED (AP) – Nikki Sixx is recovering from double hernia surgery.
Sixx writes on his Facebook page he had the surgery Wednesday and it feels like he got kicked in the stomach by a horse.
“I have been performing during the last few months with a pretty intense double hernia,” Sixx confirmed.
“But you gotta give 100% even through the pain onstage. The good news is yesterday I got surgery on both sides and it went really really well.”
He says he should be up and about in a few weeks and back on tour in six weeks.

CHICAGO (AP) – Garth Brooks figures the first shows of his comeback tour are going to be awful. Brooks played his first show of the series last night in Chicago. Brooks says every show will be better than the last, so he hopes whoever saw last night’s show was patient. Brooks says he purposely tried to stage a lot of shows and to not soak people on the ticket price. He says it kills him to get letters from people who say they would have loved to see his show but they couldn’t afford it. Tickets for Brooks’ Chicago shows went for as little as $55.

Keith Urban says he felt a “euphoria” at being nominated again for entertainer of the year and three other awards. The CMAs will be handed out November 5 in Nashville.

NASHVILLE (AP) – Trisha Yearwood says she used to look at her career like a baseball player, thinking she only had a few good years. She says after 23 years, she’s not done swinging the bat. Yearwood will release “Prize Fighter,” her first album in seven years. A release date was not given. She will tour with her husband, Garth Brooks, beginning September 4 in Chicago. Yearwood will also release a new cookbook, “Trisha’s Table,” in April. Her cooking show, “Trisha’s Southern Kitchen,” premieres its fifth season on the Food Network on Saturday. Yearwood says she never intended for her hosting gig to take over her music, but it’s difficult to do both. She says her two careers are “co-existing.”
