A judge in Salem, Oregon, sentenced Deen Castronovo on Monday to four years on probation. Castronovo will be required to undergo counseling for domestic violence offenders and drug abuse.

Castronovo was arrested June 14. Proescutors said he knowingly caused physical injury to a woman.

He was arrested again two weeks later and ordered to stay behind bars when prosecutors said he texted the woman 122 times and called her 35 times despite a no-contact order.

KFIX Rock News: KISS Monument Unveiled In Cadillac, Michigan

kissinCADILLAC, Mich. (AP) – The city of Cadillac, Michigan, has unveiled a monument dedicated to the day 40 years ago when Kiss came to town.

Kiss visited Cadillac in October 1975 to meet the high school’s football team, which credited Kiss’ music for its winning season the previous year.

Kiss had ridden in the homecoming parade, had performed in the school gym and had thrown cards that said “Kiss Loves You” from a helicopter.

This past weekend, a black granite monument dedicated to the event was unveiled beside the football field.

Kiss was not able to attend but sent a video tribute.

Gene Simmons tells MLive.com he remembers that event so clearly, because “it was almost as if we were on a Kiss spaceship and landed on Planet Kiss.”

He says a film called “Cadillac High” based on the visit is in the works.

KFIX Rock News: Steven Tyler Wants Donald Trump To Stop Using “Dream On”

Tyler’s attorneys have sent a second cease-and-desist letter to Trump’s campaign.

Tyler is a registered Republican, but the letter says Trump’s use of the song gives the false impression that Tyler endorses Trump.

Trump’s representatives did not return calls for comment.

KFIX Rock News: New Tom Petty Biography Reveals He Battled Heroin Addiction

pettybioA new Tom Petty biography reveals the rocker was a heroin addict during the 1990s, but has kept it a secret until now.

Biographer Warren Zanes notes that Petty was reluctant to publicly discuss his addiction, telling The Washington Post, “The first thing [Petty] said to me on the subject is, ‘I am very concerned that talking about this is putting a bad example out there for young people. If anyone is going to think heroin is an option because they know my story of using heroin, I can’t do this.’”

“I just had to work with him and say, ‘I think you’re going to come off as a cautionary tale rather than a romantic tale,’” adds Zanes.

Asked how someone in his 40s and 50s — Petty’s age at the time — would become an addict, the writer explained, “He’s a rock and roller. He had had encounters with people who did heroin, and he hit a point in his life when he did not know what to do with the pain he was feeling.”

The book, Petty: A Biography, identifies one of those people as Howie Epstein, who played bass in Petty’s band The Heartbreakers and died from a heroin overdose in 2003. Zane writes, “The fact was, Petty’s drug use was partially obscured by Howie Epstein’s more dramatic decline,” according to Entertainment Weekly.

“I probably spent a month not getting out of bed, just waking up and going, ‘Oh, f***,’” Petty admits in the biography. “The only thing that stopped the pain was drugs. But it was stupid. I’d never come up against anything that was bigger than me, something that I couldn’t control. But it starts running your life…I’m lucky I came through. Not everyone does.”

Petty: The Biography arrives November 10.

KFIX Rock News: AC/DC Drummer Phil Rudd Loses Appeal Seeking Lighter Sentence

acdcin2AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd, who was sentenced to eight months of home detention in July after pleading guilty to charges of threatening to kill and drug possession, has lost his appeal for a lighter sentence.

The New Zealand Herald reports that Rudd’s appeal was dismissed on Monday by a High Court in his current hometown of Tauranga, New Zealand.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer’s charges stem from a September 2014 arrest, after Rudd apparently had threatened to kill one of his assistants and was found in possession of methamphetamine and cannabis.

In addition to the home detention, Phil’s sentence included six months of post-release conditions, while he also was ordered to pay $120,000 in reparations.

At a recent appeal hearing, Rudd’s lawyer argued that the sentence was too severe, while suggesting that the judge hadn’t taken into account the amount of money the drummer was losing by not being able to work during his detention period.

The attorney also maintained that as a penalty from the drug charges, Rudd should have received either a fine or community service, instead of getting a longer home detention sentence.

However, the prosecuting attorney claimed that Rudd had “glossed over” the severity of his actions, and maintained that the man he threatened feared for his and his family’s safety.  The prosecutor also pointed out that Phil had only paid the man $50,000 of the $120,000 reparation sum.

Rudd’s legal issues led AC/DC to replace him on their current tour in support of their Rock or Bust album with former drummer Chris Slade.  T

he rock legends begins a Down Under tour leg on November 4 in Sydney, Australia, and will wrap up the trek with a pair of dates in New Zealand — on December 12 in Wellington and on December 15 in Auckland.

In August, Rudd told Rolling Stone that he hopes to rejoin AC/DC once he puts his legal troubles behind him, but the band has made no statements regarding his status with the group.
