KFIX Rock News: Rock Hall Of Fame Dismisses Nominating Committee Members

rockhallinThe Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has reportedly dismissed a number of members of their nominating committee.

But what’s attracting the most attention about the move is exactly who was sent packing.

According to Billboard, nominating committee head Jon Landau on Thursday sent emails to as many as 16 of the 42 nominating committee members, showing them the door.

Those 16 people, Billboard says, include four of the seven members of the Hall of Fame’s Early Rock and R&B Influencers subcommittee.  Which, if true, means rock and roll’s early blues, R&B and other pioneers just lost more than half of their supporting voices, which could in turn lead to fewer of those early pioneers even being nominated, let alone inducted.

Billboard doesn’t say whether there is a plan for the dismissed committee members to be replaced.

While noting that turnover on the nominating committee isn’t unprecedented, Billboard quotes unspecified sources as saying this latest move is seen by some as a way for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to exclude older, not-so well-known artists in favor of more contemporary ones, who in turn resonate more with younger, mainstream music fans and are more financially lucrative for the Hall.

Billboard further quotes some insiders point to influential Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation member, and Rolling Stone publisher, Jann Wenneras being behind the move.  Wenner has been a frequent target of past criticism for allegedly playing favorites through the nominating process.

So far, no comment from Landau, Wenner or other involved parties, Billboard reports.

Fallen Hays hero serves as inspiration for Little Texas song

Nichols

In a video uploaded to YouTube this week, Dwayne O’Brien of Little Texas talks about the inspiration for the song “Slow Ride Home.”

As the country band neared Hays, American flags greeted them at every turn — they were just ahead of the funeral procession for fallen soldier Bryan Nichols.

Nichols, a 1998 graduate of Thomas More Prep-Marian, was killed in 2011 in a helicopter accident in Afghanistan.

KZ Country’s Theresa Trapp had a chance to talk to Del Gray of Little Texas last year about “Slow Ride Home” before the band’s appearance at the Graham County Fair. Click below to hear the interview.

KFIX Rock News: Jim Morrison Poem To Be Auctioned

doors morNEW YORK (AP) – A handwritten Jim Morrison poem that eerily foretells of his death is for sale.

The poem was written on the last page torn out of a notebook with phrases like, “Last words, last words out,” and “I have drunk the drug of forgetfulness.”

The notebook originally was intact but broken apart and sold through the years.

It was found among Morrison’s possessions in the Paris hotel room where he died in 1971.

Auctioneer Paddle8 says bidding is expected to go as high as $80,000.

The auction ends June 25.

KFIX Rock News: Motley Crue Want Unknown Actors To Play Them

crue discsLONDON (AP) – It can be a fun game, deciding who should play you in the movie of your life.

Motley Crue doesn’t play that game.

Bassist Nikki Sixx says they are not getting involved in casting for the movie based on their autobiography “The Dirt,” except to say they want unknown actors to play them.

Sixx says it’s hard to see an actor he already knows trying to play someone else that he also knows.

Besides, Motley Crue are too busy doing their worldwide farewell tour. Sixx says when it’s all over, he’s going to take up crocheting.

Tourmate Alice Cooper jokes he’s trying to make crochet “more violent” by using sharper needles.

KFIX Rock News: Stevie Nicks Won’t Commit To New Fleetwood Mac Album

081227968298Fleetwood Mac’s current tour — their first in 16 years with singer/keyboard player Christine McVie — is traveling the world and won’t wrap up until November.  But frontwoman Stevie Nicks says she’s so preoccupied with making the trek a success that she just can’t cope with the idea of recording a new album with the band anytime soon.

While drummer Mick Fleetwood tells the British paper The Mirror that he wants to make a new Fleetwood Mac album because they have a “s**tload of new songs,” Nicks won’t commit.  “Honestly, I just don’t know about it.  This tour has been so hard and so breathtakingly overwhelming,” she tells the paper.  “I have to look great, I have to feel great, I have to sound great.  And I cannot be thinking about future albums or poetry or songs right now.”

She adds, “Now, we have Europe to conquer.  It’s really important that we are spectacular.  And that’s all that I can worry about right now.”

Fleetwood Mac’s last album of original material was 2003’s Say You Will.

Meanwhile, the band continues to earn new, famous fans.  While playing in London last month, Adele came to visit Stevie backstage, and pronounced the experience “the best night of my life.”  And the Mirror reports that Harry Styles of the U.K. boy band One Direction gave Nicks a handmade birthday cake during that same time.  What’s more, Mick Fleetwood says that he and Styles are pen pals, which really impresses his twin 13-year-old daughters.

Mick adds, “He’s come to three of our shows.  He writes to me from weird places.”

Fleetwood Mac’s European tour leg runs through a July 10-11 engagement in Dublin, Ireland.  The band then is scheduled to head to Australia in October.
