kansmirThe new Kansas documentary Miracles Out of Nowhere will get its television premiere on Friday, March 20, four days before the film will be commercially released as Blu-ray/CD and DVD/CD sets and as a deluxe multi-disc package.

The movie, which focuses on the band’s rise to success during the 1970s and celebrates the group’s 40th anniversary, will air at 9 p.m. ET/PT on the Palladia network and 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT on VH1 Classic.

Miracles Out of Nowhere includes rare archival footage as well as new interviews with Kansas’ six founding members — Ehart, singer/keyboardist Steve Walsh, multi-instrumentalist Kerry Livgren, guitarist Rich Williams, violinist/singer Robby Steinhardt and bassist Dave Hope.

The band mates came together in their hometown of Topeka to reminisce about the group’s early years and visit various historic locations.

The film also includes interviews with Queen guitarist Brian May, country superstar Garth Brooks and rock producer Brendan O’Brien, among others.

An exclusive clip from the movie can be viewed now at VH1Classic.com, while several other scenes from the flick and a preview trailer have been posted at Kansas’ official VEVO.com channel.  You also can watch a trailer for the documentary at YouTube.

The deluxe version of Miracles Out of Nowhere can be purchase exclusively at MiraclesOutOfNowhere.com.

It includes a bonus DVD offering a variety of video outtakes from the documentary, as well as special CD curated by Ehart and longtime Kansas producer Jeff Glixman that features hits, album cuts and audio segments from the film.

KFIX Rock News: Director Of Rolling Stones Documentary “Gimme Shelter” Dies

poster-gimmeshelterThe man who directed the classic 1970 Rolling Stones documentary Gimme Shelter, has died.  Albert Maysles [MAY-zuhls] passed away Thursday of natural causes at age 88, Variety reports.

After filming the first concert of their 1969 U.S. tour — a show at New York City’s Madison Square Garden — Maysles and his brother David convinced the Rolling Stones to let them film their 1969 U.S. tour.

They ultimately captured the infamous December 6, 1969 concert at Northern California’s Altamont Speedway, which also featured Jefferson Airplane, Santana, The Flying Burrito Brothers, The Grateful Dead, and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.

Hells Angels hired by the Stones to provide security instead attacked audience members, stabbing concert goer Meredith Hunter to death in what was later ruled an act of self-defense.  The Maysles Brothers captured Hunter’s murder on film.

Albert Mayles’ had dozens of both feature-length and short documentaries to his name.  He was currently working on a documentary about the late artist Keith Haring.  Mayles’ brother and Gimme Shelter co-director, David, died in 1987.

KFIX Rock News: Chrissie Hynde Of The Pretenders To Publish Autobiography

Chrissie Hynde is set to join the ranks of the famous rockers who have penned an autobiography.

The Pretenders frontwoman has signed a deal with the Penguin Random House Group to publish a “literary memoir” on September 8 of this year.

The as-yet-untitled book apparently will put quite a bit of brass in Hynde’s pocket, as the sources close to the deal have told The New York Times that the memoir was sold for a seven-figure sum.

The tome will follow Chrissie’s life story from her childhood in Ohio, the development of her passion for rock music in the 1960s and her years spent at Kent State University at the time of the infamous 1970 shootings of student protesters, to her involvement in the London punk scene during the ’70s and her eventual emergence as an edgy, tough, sexy and talented singer/songwriter with The Pretenders.

“I’m approaching writing this memoir much the same way as I would an album,” says Hynde in a statement.  “I hope it makes you want to dance, have fun, dig out some old records and maybe even root through your closet and dust off your guitar.”

Meanwhile, Hynde’s editor, Gerry Howard, says of the book, “It’s evocative and damned funny and recklessly candid and emotionally naked and unmistakably Chrissie Hynde in every line.  A total gas and sure to become a classic of the genre.”

The book is available for pre-order now at RandomHouse.com, with the hardcover version priced at $26.99 and the eBook edition costing $13.99.

A house in Liverpool, England, where Paul McCartney spent some of his early childhood was sold at an auction on Thursday for 150,000 pounds, or about $231,000.

The auction was hosted by the city’s famous Cavern Club venue.

According to the Liverpool Echo, bidding began at 100,000 pounds and escalated to the sale price in minutes.

The winning bidder was an anonymous local resident who was in attendance at the auction.

McCartney and his family moved into the residence, which is located at 72 Western Avenue in Liverpool’s Speke neighborhood, when he was four years old and it reportedly is the first home in which he remembers living.

It features a lounge, dining room, kitchen and hallway on the ground floor, while the bedrooms and a family bathroom are located on the second floor.  In addition, gardens are located in the front and back of the house.

The sale was organized by Countrywide Property Auctions and real estate broker Entwistle Green, who also handled the auction of John Lennon’s boyhood home at 9 Newcastle Road in 2013, and George Harrison’s home at 25 Upton Green last year.

The Liverpool Echo reports that the seller of McCartney’s former home, Peter Thompson, is happy about the sale and “hopes the new owner enjoys it as much as he did.”
