KHAZ Country Music News: New Music From Jim Ed Brown in 2015

khaz jim ed brown 20141111Country Music fans have a good reason to look forward to 2015. Longtime fan favorite Jim Ed Brown will be returning with his first solo recording in three decades with the January release of IN STYLE AGAIN, his debut project for Plowboy Records. “I love new music.” said Brown about his new disc. “I guess the whole world does. It’s always good to hear a new song. I love what I do. People have always been great to me. They have accepted me into their homes and lives. It’s unreal what radio and television has done for me. I am a very blessed man.”

One of the most timeless voices in Country history, Brown has the distinction of having hits on the chart as a member of a trio (His recording partnership with sisters Maxine and Bonnie as The Browns earned them hits with “I Heard The Bluebirds Sing,” “Scarlet Ribbons,” and the 1959 million-selling “The Three Bells”), a solo artist (with hits like the iconic “Pop A Top,” “Southern Loving,” and “Morning”), and as part of a CMA Award winning partnership with Helen Cornelius (The two recorded many classics from 1976-1981, including “I Don’t Want To Have To Marry You,” and “Lying In Love With You” – which was one of the first major hits penned by Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame member Dean Dillon.)

IN STYLE AGAIN neatly brings together all phases of Brown’s historic career. “When The Sun Says Hello To The Mountain” features the distinctive harmonies of his sisters. Brown says reuniting with his sisters is a dream come true. “I’ve had a song in mind for all those years. In fact, I had a copy of it that I picked up when I was in Europe that I have kept for so many years. I thought ‘Why don’t I see if I can’t get them to record one more time with me?”

KFIX Rock News: Def Leppard “About Halfway” Finished With Next Album

leplogoIt’s been more than six years since Def Leppard released its last studio album, 2008’s Songs from the Sparkle Lounge, but frontman Joe Elliott says the band is well on its way to finishing a new record.

Speaking at the recent Classic Rock Roll of Honour ceremony, Elliott revealed that the veteran British group is “about halfway through” with the album.

“With a bit of luck, we should have it done by springtime,” he told ABC News Radio, pointing out that he would be getting back to work on the project this month.

Elliott said Def Leppard has written 15 songs for the album, and doesn’t think he and his band mates will write any more for it, since “we’re kinda happy with the [ones] we’ve got.”

He added, “It’s a good record…It’s the kind of record that we should be making at this stage of our career.  And that’s about as much as I’m going to say about it.”

Elliott performed with the star-studded supergroup Kings of Chaos at the 2014 Classic Rock Roll of Honour, but he told ABC News Radio that he won’t be joining the band when it heads to South Africa for three concerts in late November and early December.  He explained that the trek overlaps with a December U.K. tour he has lined up with his Down ‘n’ Outz side project.

“I can’t do both,” he insisted.  “I’ve tried.  Doesn’t work.”

Down ‘n’ Outz pays homage to the music of Mott the Hoople, Ian Hunter and other 1970s glam-rock acts.

In other Def Leppard news, guitarist Vivian Campbell recently underwent a stem cell transplant as he continues to battle lymphoma.  Last week, he posted a message on his Facebook page announcing that he’d returned home from the hospital.

“So glad that’s over,” he wrote.  “Time to recover/recuperate and grow some hair…Thanks for all the love you’ve sent — much appreciated!…Normal service will be resumed shortly.”

KFIX Rock News: Settlement Reached In Lawsuit Tied To Gregg Allman Biopic

6377741833_e1d76be4bb_mThe parents of Sarah Jones, the camera assistant who was killed during the filming of the Gregg Allman biopic Midnight Rider this past February, have reached a settlement with some of the parties they filed a wrongful death lawsuit against following the tragic accident.

Deadline reports that a lawyer for the Jones family announced on Wednesday that a confidential agreement was reached with parties including the husband-and-wife writer/producer team of Randall Miller and Jody Savin, their Unclaimed Freight production company, executive producer Jay Sedrish, assistant director Hillary Schwartz and Rayonier Performance Fibers, the company that owns the land where the accident occurred.

“Richard and Elizabeth Jones’ objectives in filing this lawsuit, after the death of their 27-year-old daughter, Sarah, have been clear and unwavering,” attorney Jeff Harris said.  “To find out what happened on the day of their daughter’s death, determine who was responsible, hold those who made bad decisions accountable and ensure this kind of tragedy never happens again on another film set.  Today, we are another step closer to fully achieving those objectives.”

The lawsuit, which was filed in May, still is moving forward against several other parties, including the CSX train company, Meddin Studios and Meddin executive Nick Gant.  Last month, Gregg Allman, his manager Michael Lehman and the Open Road Films company were dropped from the suit after they struck a deal with the Jones family.

Meanwhile, a criminal trial involving Miller, Savin, Sedrish and Schwartz, who face charges of involuntary manslaughter and criminal trespass, is scheduled to get under way on March 9, 2015.

Sarah Jones was killed, and several other crew members were injured, by a train that unexpectedly crossed a trestle bridge near Jesup, Georgia, where the filmmakers were attempting to shoot a scene for the movie.

KFIX Rock News: Kansas Documentary To Be Released Next Year

kansasinNEW YORK (AP) – The way Kansas guitarist Kerry Livgren describes it, “Dust in the Wind” was just a guitar exercise to work his fingers.

It became their biggest hit.

That’s one of the stories the band relates in the new documentary, “Kansas: Miracles Out Of Nowhere.”

They also discuss recording in a studio next to John Lennon, getting into a fight with Steven Tyler and how the words “free beer” changed their lives.

Queen guitarist Brian May and Garth Brooks explain how Kansas influenced them.

“Kansas: Miracles Out Of Nowhere” will come out as a CD and DVD set in March.

KFIX Rock News: Pink Floyd Scores First #1 Album In 19 Years

floyd endlessinIt’s been a while, but Pink Floyd is back on top.

The band achieved their first number-one album in the U.K. in 19 years with The Endless River.

Over 139,000 copies were sold last week, making it the third-fastest-selling artist album of the year, behind Coldplay’s Ghost Stories and Ed Sheeran’s X.

The album is based on unreleased material which was written, recorded and produced during sessions for 1994’s The Division Bell.

It’s the group’s first release since the death of keyboardist and founding member Richard Wright, whose work also appears on the record.

“Pink Floyd is both thrilled and surprised at the level of international interest in this, their final album,” a spokesperson for the band told OfficialCharts.com.

“They want to thank the fans for their support and hope that in some small way, The Endless River has reminded them of the old fashioned joy of listening to an album in its entirety.”

KFIX Rock News: Rolling Stones Resolve Insurance Case

stonesinSALT LAKE CITY (AP) – A spokeswoman for Mick Jagger says it was upsetting that private information was made public in court last week.

Spokeswoman Fran Curtis says the Rolling Stones have settled a legal battle with insurance underwriters who wanted to investigate the mental health of Jagger’s girlfriend, L’Wren (luh-REN’) Scott. Her suicide in March forced the postponement of the Rolling Stones tour.

The underwriters didn’t want to pay the band’s $12.7 million claim for losses.

Curtis did not elaborate on the settlement, but she says it had been resolved before the details became public last week.

The underwriters had wanted to talk to Scott’s brother about her health, but he told The Salt Lake Tribune he wasn’t contacted.
