KFIX Rock News: Led Zeppelin Reissues Debut At #7 & #12 On Billboard Chart

zepreissue2Back in June, the first installment of Led Zeppelin’s reissue campaign made a big splash on the Billboard 200, with the three releases — Led Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin II and Led Zeppelin — debuting, respectively, at #7, #9 and #10 on the tally.

Now, the initiative’s second wave — featuring Led Zeppelin IV and Houses of the Holy — has arrived on the chart, with slightly less-flashy results.

The revamped Led Zeppelin IV bows at #7 after selling 35,000, while the updated Houses of the Holy lands at #12 after moving 29,000.

Led Zeppelin IV originally hit stores in November 1971, and went on to reach #2 on the Billboard 200.  It’s since sold more than 23 million copies in the U.S. alone.

Houses of the Holy, which was first released in May 1973, topped the Billboard tally for two weeks later that same year.  It’s notched more than 11 million stateside sales.

KFIX Rock News: Ozzy Osbourne Says He’ll Continue Solo Work After Black Sabbath

5797899257_b69c0ddd37_mBlack Sabbath may be hanging it up after one more album and one more tour, but Ozzy Osbourne says that he will continue to write solo albums.

“I’ve been not doing my solo stuff for quite a while now — I’ve been touring with Sabbath, so I just wanted to let everybody know I haven’t stopped doing my solo stuff,” Osbourne tells Billboard.

“I’m going to do one more Black Sabbath tour, one more album with Black Sabbath, and it’ll take about two or three years before I release solo stuff again.  So Memoirs of a Madman is just to say to the fans that I haven’t stopped.”

Memoirs of a Madman is a CD/DVD collection released earlier this month that compiles 17 of Ozzy’s greatest hits, as well music videos, live performances and behind-the-scenes footage.

Whenever his next solo project does comes out, Osbourne says that it will be much different from the music Black Sabbath is making.

“Black Sabbath is slow and demonic; Tony Iommi is untouchable for that kind of stuff,” he says.  “My stuff is more melodic, more structured of a song.  It’s more kind of rock than doom-y music.  It’s happier, kind of.”

As for whether or not this is really the end for Black Sabbath, Osbourne assures Billboard that this album and tour will be the band’s “last hurrah.”

“We’re disbanding the name and everything.  They don’t want to tour anymore,” he says.  “I get it.  But I love it.  I’m gonna continue my solo thing.”

KFIX Rock News: U2 To Play Week-Long Residency On “The Tonight Show”

u22“They were our very first musical guest here on The Tonight Show and now they’ll be returning for an entire week,” Fallon declared.

“That’s right, U2 is coming back…It all starts Monday, November 17.”

The host also revealed that the show has “all sorts of fun stuff planned” involving the band.

U2’s first appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon was February 17.

The band performed its charity single “Invisible” on the episode, chatted with Fallon and also played an acoustic version of “Ordinary Love,” accompanied by The Roots.

Of course, we can expect U2 to showcase some songs from their just-released album, Songs of Innocence, during their Tonight Show residency.

News of the band’s Fallon stint comes just a few days after Metallica announced they’d play a similar residency on CBS’ The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson that same week.

And last month, The Foo Fighters promoted their new HBO documentary series, Sonic Highways, with a week’s worth of performances on Late Show with David Letterman.

KFIX Rock News: Fans Of The Who Asked To Contribute Stories & Photos To Upcoming Keith Moon Coffee Table Book

whoinThe estate of Keith Moon is putting together a coffee table book celebrating late Who drummer that’s expected to be published next year.

The book, which is a collaboration with author Ian Snowball, will feature a variety of rare photos and personal recollections about the famed rocker.

The goal of the book is to celebrate the lauded musician’s positive contributions to the rock world rather than dwell on his infamous antics.

Moon’s estate is asking fans to contribute their own stories about how Keith inspired them, as well as photographs of the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer taken by them or someone they know.

In order for your tales to be considered for inclusion in the book, they must be 1,000 words or less.

Stories and photos should be sent via email to [email protected] by December 15 along with your contact information.

Moon died in September 1978 at the age of 32 from an overdose of a medication he was taking to help curb his alcohol abuse.
