After having their first exhibition match cancelled due to weather, the Fort Hays State men’s soccer team wins their exhibition opener Sunday night, defeating Barton [Kan.] Community College 2-1.
Daniel Peralta put the Tigers on the board in the 16th minute off a pass from Adrian Ramirez. They struck again three minutes later on a Tomas Mares goal.
Barton, a final four team in the NJCAA last season, scored 15 minutes into the second half.
The Tigers are back at home Sunday at 7:30pm against Kansas Wesleyan in another exhibition contest. The Tigers open the season at home September 3rd against Adams State.
The Fort Hays State women’s soccer team defeated Hutchinson [Kan.] Community College 2-1 in their second exhibition match of the season. They tied in their opener 1-1 with Butler [Kan.] Community College Friday in a contest that was shortened due to lightning.
Hailey Davey put the Tigers up 20 minutes into the first half Sunday. Caitlyn Coney scored the second goal six minutes later on a pass from Davey.
Hutch scored in the second half but was held scoreless over the last 20 minutes.
The Tigers final exhibition is Sunday at 5pm against Kansas Wesleyan. Their season begins September 3rd at home against Newman.

The Fort Hays State women’s soccer team’s first ever game, an exhibition contest Friday (August 19) with Butler Community College, ended in a 1-1 tie at the FHSU Soccer Stadium. The game was called with 22 minutes remaining due to lightning.
FHSU scored the first goal of the game 20 minutes into the first half when junior Cindy Benitez’s header found the back of the net. Nicole Randall’s pass set up the Lady Tiger goal.
BCC scored the tying goal seven minutes later. The game remained scoreless for the remaining 50 minutes of the contest.
The Lady Tigers play again this Sunday at 4:30pm against Hutchinson Community College at the FHSU Soccer Stadium.

The Fort Hays State Tiger football team held an intersquad scrimmage Friday afternoon at Lewis Field. Sophomore running back Edward Smith scored two touchdowns, one on a 45-yard run and another from one-yard out.

FHSU softball coach Erin Kinberger announced her first signing class Thursday.
Fort Hays State softball coach Erin Kinberger announced her first recruiting class for the Lady Tigers on Thursday (Aug. 18). Kinberger has added seven players to the roster for the 2012 season, including four true freshman and three junior college transfers. Those joining the Fort Hays State program this year are Breanna Beckerman, Abby Morrison, Madison Putman, Chelsey Rottinghaus, Kaitlyn Shattleroe, Yasnaya Susoeff and Amanda Vaupel.

Four-time all-conference selection in her prep career, splitting time at Larned HS & Great Bend HS.

Three-year letterwinner for the Eagles and a member of the 2010 Class 6A State Champions…Twice named a Class 6A all-state selection: honorable mention in 2010 and second team in 2011.

First team All-American infielder for the Lady Cardinals in 2011 after being a second team selection in 2010…Also a two-time all-conference and all-region selection for Labette…Helped the team to Region 6 and Jayhawk Conference Championships in 2011 and ranking as high as No. 5 in the country.

Attended Macksville HS, but played softball and was a two-year letterwinner at Ellinwood HS….Twice named an all-area selection by the Hutchinson News.

Two-time all-conference selection at Olathe North HS…Played for two regional champion teams in her prep career, including the 2008 which finished 4th at the Class 6A State Tournament.
There will be a lot of changes this season for the Fort Hays State football team, and for one Tiger, it includes wearing a black jersey at practice rather than white.
Liberal senior Ricky Jacques is making the move from running back to linebacker. Jacques rushed for 161 yards on 42 carries in a backup role behind James Walker a year ago. He made the switch Tuesday after starting the season at his customary tailback spot.
Jacques says it’s the first time he’s been on the defensive side of the ball since high school.

The Fort Hays State Tiger football team continues their preseason workouts. Tuesday they had their first two-a-day workouts. Wednesday they’re back to a morning practice. One of the positions that has a handful of returners is the defensive line. The Tigers return four who have seen significant time in seniors Edwin Herbert, Ernesto Martinez and Cameron Shelton. Junior Aaron Burton also returns and Kyle Perry has been converted from linebacker to defensive end and is competing for playing time.

The Fort Hays State football team donned full pads for the first time Monday and will have their first two-a-day workouts Tuesday as they continue to prepare for the start of the 2011 season which is two weeks from this Thursday. The Tigers will only have three two-a-day workouts this fall as mandated by the NCAA. They are scheduled to hold a scrimmage Friday afternoon.

Hear comments from third-year quarterback Blake McAhren who is in a battle for the Tigers starting job. FHSU begins their first full week of practice Monday. They are scheduled to have a scrimmage at 2pm Friday. The Tigers open the season September 1st at home against Emporia State.
The Fort Hays State men’s and women’s soccer teams hold their first workouts later today. The men’s team goes at one o’clock and the women at 2:30pm at the new stadium at the Bickle-Schmidt Sports Complex.
Both teams will have the first of three exhibition matches on Friday. The women will play Butler Community College at 4:30pm followed by the men against Pratt Community College.
Both teams will host exhibitions on August 21st and the 28th before opening the season at home September 3rd.
